  1. While waiting for Publisher I have been editing a book with text and photos in Blurb's Bookwright programme. When Publisher arrives, will I be able to export my book in Pdf form from Bookwright, open it in Publisher and continue to edit it (I am far from finished...)?
  2. Hi all! I'm using Affinity products for a long time, but I'm posting for a first time in the forums. Sorry if it is a stupid question, but I don't know how to handle it... There is my problem: I got a project with many components in it. I'm working in Publisher. For the main content I made a polygon shape, but I've decided to decorate the sides of it whit vector shapes which I put like a mask in the big polygon. And there comes the problem: when I try to export it in PDF there is a shadow from the decoration that isn't suppose to be visible and a part of the small polygons. I've try to rasterise it but the quality becomes too bad. The first picture is how it has to be, the 2-nd is with the problem (with the arrows). Any ideas how to fix it and what may be the problem (I guess the vectors but I don't know why)? Thanks in advance.
  3. A big problem for me is the fact, that I cannot place PDFs in APub with embedded fonts that are not installed on my computer. Well, I can place them but they don’t look like they should, because the missing fonts were replaced! In a magazine I have to place a minimum of 70 ads that I get as PDFs from multiple customers. I only have to place them onto my pages within the editorial content. And they have to be ‚as they are‘ when it comes to printing. It’s not possible to tell all the customers: "Please give me all the fonts you have used"! So please make it possible to use PDFs the common way: Put a PDF on a layout as it is, whether the fonts used in it are installed or not. Kindest regards Udo
  4. This bug is rather tricky to explain in words, so you'll just have to look at the attached documents and images. Pay attention to items circled in red on these images. Open the attached Test.afdesign file Notice how the blue rectangle looks like and how the effect was achieved in the attached Affinity.png image Export the Affinity file to a PDF/X4, default settings Open the PDF in Adobe Reader (or any PDF reader), notice how the white texture is almost invisible as seen in Acrobat.png image Open the PDF in Illustrator CC 2019 Examine the clipping mask and group structures, notice the group containing the white brush texture has 20% opacity applied as shown in Illustrator-1.png Set the said group opacity to 100%, as shown in Illustrator-2.png, notice how the brush texture looks correct now Affinity Designer is rasterizing the opacity of the brush texture layer, then applying the opacity again to this rasterized layer. So the final transparency is 20% of 20%, that's 4% transparency at the end. Strangely this bug does not happen if the Colour Overlay effect is not used, check the Test-NoColourOverlay.pdf file. Moreover, this bug is transversal to all Affinity apps. You can trigger it in any of the apps. Even more interesting, this bug shows even if the file is not directly exported, you can trigger it in Publisher by linking to the file. This one is easy to explain in words: Open Affinity Publisher and create a new document Use File -> Place… and place the Test.afdesign into the document anywhere visible Export the Publisher document using the default PDF/X4 settings The same bug will show up in the exported PDF The only work around I've found so far is to disable "Allow advanced feature" under "More..." PDF export. This flattens all transparency. Or use other presets (X3 or X1a) that don't support live transparency anyway. The issue with this is these presets don't output that good results in Affinity... X4 is the best to keep fidelity to the original file. Thanks! Test.afdesign Test-NoColourOverlay.pdf
  5. I'm seeing a few errors when opening PDFs into Publisher (and Designer) with some text objects being positioned incorrectly. Also ligature glyphs are replaced by a ?. Occasionally, some other glyph substitutions. I've no reason to suspect the PDFs themselves, as they behave in all other apps.
  6. I didn’t choose to update the app.. it did it by it own.. and now I cannot export my job documents.. fix it please!
  7. I own Affinity Designer and use it to create wedding stationery which I outsource to a local printshop for printing. I always convert the documents to a PDF before emailing to the printshop and have never had any problems before now. This is what is showing up on their end (on my end it is just a nice white border). I have ungrouped every single element in the file and converted them all to curves. I feel like I've tried everything and I'm not sure what to do next to ensure it shows up correctly and can be printed for my customer! * NOTE this is a screenshot that they sent me. I do my work on an iMac and it looks like they use Windows but like I said I've never had any issues in the past with them!*
  8. Hello At the moment it is not possible to scale a placed PDF with % always in relation to its original size. This is necessary if you work with scale plans etc. My request is to have a % number in the transformation tool to scale PDFs always to its original size, like it is already possible with pictures. Thank you.
  9. Hello I am working with pdfs and want to have a transparent colored object above it. The pdf are mostly transparent but have some white areas in it. The colored object is displayed differently on white planes or on transparent areas. The results also varie depending on how I placed it. I expect all white colored areas to be the same color in the blue rectangle. picture frame and transparancy.afpub
  10. Hi all, I can't be sure I'm not missing something, but it seems that when exporting a multiple-artboard document via the Export persona I'll always get a single page giant PDF, while when using the Export dialog I always get a mutliple-page document (which is actually what I want). So... can I use the Export persona to get a multiple-page PDF at all? Thanks in advance for any insights.
  11. I've made a document containing 4 artboards, all with the same layout etc. But when exporting to a PDF file their order has changed. Instead of seeing first artboard 1 to 4, I'm now seeing artboard 4 to 1. What am I doing wrong? MacOS 10.13.6 with Affinity Designer 1.7.1 Thanks in advance.
  12. Hi, I recently migrated from illustrator, so I'm not sure if my question is even valid. I built up a document with layers, but after I exported it to PDF using the PDF (export) profile, and opened the generated PDF file, every info on the layer arrangement is lost. Acrobat also doesn't show the layers. I appreciate your help.
  13. After exporting to a PDF in Publisher I get a weird area at the place of the shadow. If I use the PDF function from Apple, it is not in it. But then the page format is no longer correct. (Affinity Publisher MAC 10.14.4) 220.Adv80x120zwApple.pdf 220.Adv80x120zw.pdf
  14. A couple days ago I asked about the value of pdfTool in a Quark forum. One comment was unexpected in that they pointed out that the tool is especially good for adding to a Publisher workflow in that it hasn't been around as long and may need a little more help than mature products like Quark and InDesign. That one perspective alone almost justified it's $500+ price tag. I wanted to know have other people found that those two products work really well together? Publisher is the only tool in the suite I haven't explored extremely in depth and I haven't even installed pdfToolbox yet. I like how Serif keeps the price low which allows for workflows like installing it on non-designers computers as I mentioned a couple days ago. Since the work in my company needs to pass by me the more expensive product (pdfToolbox) only needs to be installed on my machine. At first I didn't understand the very low pricing that Serif was doing but now it makes sense. I have even grown to like the name in that it may confuse some Microsoft Publisher users to accidentally start using Serif Publisher.
  15. Hi there, PDF export (default) crashes again and again. I don't have the time to change any option, it crashes immediately. Even after a reboot. Export on JPG or PSD are ok. A3 page created with 1.7.0 (afdesign file is 55,3Mo). I've tried with a smaller file created with the previous 1.6.4 and the PDF export went ok (all options by default). I went back to the "A3 file" and it crashes during the export, when I confirmed the destination... Thanks!

    Export Crash

Experienced a crash in Designer 1.7 when exporting a PDF document. I'm not exactly sure what caused the crash, but I will explain what I did. When setting up a simple PDF document (an invoice for a client), I pressed the export shortcut (cmd+option+shift+E). The finder window popped up. I selected the 'PDF (For Print) from the preset menu. I then navigated to the desired folder containing other PDF documents similar to the one I was exporting. I clicked on one of the other PDF files already in the folder (Invoice #323) to save my new document with the same name as the PDF in the folder, but change it from "Invoce #323" to "Invoice #324" before exporting so as not to replace the existing PDF. As soon as I clicked 'Export' my app window disappeared and the software crashed. I have not been able to recreate this crash, so it might just have been a once off thing, but it may be worth looking into.
  17. Is there a way to add a hyperlink to text in Designer so when we export as a PDF the link will stay live? I see the hyperlink option in the PDF export dialog box but I don't see anywhere to actually add the link data to text (or an object). Cheers!
  18. Is there an easy way to place a multipage PDF? I know I can open a PDF and I know you can place a PDF on a spread and select a page, but is there a more efficient way of doing this? I work in music publishing and I am constantly importing scores created in music engraving programs. InDesign has both a script that will place each page on a new spread and also a way to load the cursor with the entire file and it will place the next page every time you click. Are either (or another) of these techniques available here?
  19. Dear All, A. Situation Being new to "Affinity" I am working to use this software instead of the big A package. Quite impressed and pleased by functionality, look & feel. I often use this workflow > import .jpg files > modify file > export to .pdf for archivation Default settings used for export. I am observing that the selection area appears to remain somewhere in the backgrund of the file, causing unwanted small lines in the exported file. A sample is attached. B. Configuration OS: Windows 10 x64 Version: 1.7 (appears on 1.6.5 as well) C. Action Is the bug in front of the machine (as usual)? Is there any setting to avoid this behavior? Thanks upfront for any support. Joschik Edited Monday at 07:50 PM by Joschik

  21. I've just been trying to export 5 PDF artboards using the Export Persona and I can't find the 'include bleed' option. It was a tick box in AD 1.6 but now it is not an option in the Export Persona unless I use the File > Export option
  22. Hello, I have upgraded to affinity photo and designer 1.7 from 1.6 and I am having a problem loading pdf files created via print "save as pdf" in 3 different web browsers, when opening it reads the fonts correctly but some of the text is over lapping in the text box and the only way to fix this is to copy the text in to notepad and the copy and paste back to the text box, this fixes the overlap. Has the new pdf import/load got some setting i am unaware of or is that a unknown fault with both programs. I can supply screen shots or files as required. Regards Chris
  23. Completely useless update. I have A LOT OF FILES with multiple artboards. Usually, I export my designs on PDF (because of the compatibility, most people has AI), and, with the update, there's no separation between the artboards. All you got is one single page with all the arboards on it, no separated pages, one by each one of the artboards. So, a really nice software is now ruined with an unnecessary update.
  24. I have produced a pdf version of the Affinity Photo manual that you can read without starting the program. It can be interesting to put it on your phone or tablet to read when you have some time to spare. Since the file is too big to upload here, I have put it on Dropbox for you to download. It is current for the last version of Affinity Photo. Comments welcomed. Here is the link: https://dropbox.com/s/d3uxmmypdx9ruzw/Affinity%20Photo%20Manual.pdf?dl=0
  25. Hi there, I have encountered a strange bug when working with PDF exports. To be more precise Overpass as a font. It gets exported as bunch of symbols instead of letters. Tested. Not a bug in my file, nor software (friend tested it as well) Link to download Overpass: https://overpassfont.org What it was supposed to look like: What I got in the PDF: My export settings:
