  1. After exporting to a PDF in Publisher I get a weird area at the place of the shadow. If I use the PDF function from Apple, it is not in it. But then the page format is no longer correct. (Affinity Publisher MAC 10.14.4) 220.Adv80x120zwApple.pdf 220.Adv80x120zw.pdf
  2. Hi there, PDF export (default) crashes again and again. I don't have the time to change any option, it crashes immediately. Even after a reboot. Export on JPG or PSD are ok. A3 page created with 1.7.0 (afdesign file is 55,3Mo). I've tried with a smaller file created with the previous 1.6.4 and the PDF export went ok (all options by default). I went back to the "A3 file" and it crashes during the export, when I confirmed the destination... Thanks!

    Export Crash

Experienced a crash in Designer 1.7 when exporting a PDF document. I'm not exactly sure what caused the crash, but I will explain what I did. When setting up a simple PDF document (an invoice for a client), I pressed the export shortcut (cmd+option+shift+E). The finder window popped up. I selected the 'PDF (For Print) from the preset menu. I then navigated to the desired folder containing other PDF documents similar to the one I was exporting. I clicked on one of the other PDF files already in the folder (Invoice #323) to save my new document with the same name as the PDF in the folder, but change it from "Invoce #323" to "Invoice #324" before exporting so as not to replace the existing PDF. As soon as I clicked 'Export' my app window disappeared and the software crashed. I have not been able to recreate this crash, so it might just have been a once off thing, but it may be worth looking into.
  4. Is there a way to add a hyperlink to text in Designer so when we export as a PDF the link will stay live? I see the hyperlink option in the PDF export dialog box but I don't see anywhere to actually add the link data to text (or an object). Cheers!
  5. Is there an easy way to place a multipage PDF? I know I can open a PDF and I know you can place a PDF on a spread and select a page, but is there a more efficient way of doing this? I work in music publishing and I am constantly importing scores created in music engraving programs. InDesign has both a script that will place each page on a new spread and also a way to load the cursor with the entire file and it will place the next page every time you click. Are either (or another) of these techniques available here?
  6. Dear All, A. Situation Being new to "Affinity" I am working to use this software instead of the big A package. Quite impressed and pleased by functionality, look & feel. I often use this workflow > import .jpg files > modify file > export to .pdf for archivation Default settings used for export. I am observing that the selection area appears to remain somewhere in the backgrund of the file, causing unwanted small lines in the exported file. A sample is attached. B. Configuration OS: Windows 10 x64 Version: 1.7 (appears on 1.6.5 as well) C. Action Is the bug in front of the machine (as usual)? Is there any setting to avoid this behavior? Thanks upfront for any support. Joschik Edited Monday at 07:50 PM by Joschik
  7. I had a problem with the pdf export. I have a 24 page brochure that I want to export. Is there the possibility to show me the faulty page. Can anybody help me? Kind regard from bavaria
  8. Hello, I have upgraded to affinity photo and designer 1.7 from 1.6 and I am having a problem loading pdf files created via print "save as pdf" in 3 different web browsers, when opening it reads the fonts correctly but some of the text is over lapping in the text box and the only way to fix this is to copy the text in to notepad and the copy and paste back to the text box, this fixes the overlap. Has the new pdf import/load got some setting i am unaware of or is that a unknown fault with both programs. I can supply screen shots or files as required. Regards Chris
  9. Completely useless update. I have A LOT OF FILES with multiple artboards. Usually, I export my designs on PDF (because of the compatibility, most people has AI), and, with the update, there's no separation between the artboards. All you got is one single page with all the arboards on it, no separated pages, one by each one of the artboards. So, a really nice software is now ruined with an unnecessary update.
  10. Hi there, I have encountered a strange bug when working with PDF exports. To be more precise Overpass as a font. It gets exported as bunch of symbols instead of letters. Tested. Not a bug in my file, nor software (friend tested it as well) Link to download Overpass: https://overpassfont.org What it was supposed to look like: What I got in the PDF: My export settings:
  11. Copying pdf vector data (macOS standard for inter-app vector graphics, in this case from Vectoraster) and then using it in Affinity Designer 1.6.1 to create "New from Clipboard" works fine. However, if you instead paste the same data into an existing open Affinity document the result is very strange with the graphics being upside down with the elements distributed incorrectly in the Y-axis. 12. Hello people; me again I'm exporting this file to PDF via Affinity Designer and some of the objects (which are grouped together) end up being converted as image, not as objects with curves. When I leave them separate before exporting the PDF, however, they are read correctly as curves. In the other software I use, when I export the PDF, even to the grouped object, the file is generated with it in objects in curves. Are there any Affinity settings I did not get or will I have to separate everything before exporting to PDF? 13. Hello, I have a small book ready to print but have not yet managed to find a way to do so. I have many, many problems but the one of greatest significance is to find a way of actually printing the book in the signatures I need for binding. The following is what I have looked at. There must be a solution somewhere (It is called Publisher after all.) but I have not found it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I require signatures from 1 (rare) to 4 sheets of paper (that is, 4 to 16 pages). However, this requirement is not fixed as, for different books, I will be using paper of differing thicknesses and hence will select different numbers of sheets for the signatures. I have coloured photos that go to the edge of the spread and cover the entire spread, NOT just an entire page. This means that I have to use Bleed and then trim the text block. If I use Booklet as the printing option, it prints the entire file as a single signature (a "booklet" is, essentially, a single signature.) This is no good whatsoever. An average book has between 6 and 10 sheets for each signature. I've never seen a 100 page book bound in a single signature. Since I am using thick paper, my signatures will have about three sheets (on average). If I use Book as the printing option, then it does the page imposition assuming that each signature has a single sheet. This option is equally useless as it would force me into hand sewing every single sheet. As above, I have never seen a book where all the signatures have only a single sheet. Since neither of these options make sense in my situation, I have tried workarounds via the use of pdf files. I purchased a PDF editor (at twice the price of Publisher) just to do the imposition - but that failed too! The reason is subtle ( and very frustrating). IF I export spreads then I can get the bleed done correctly AND get crop marks etc., things that I need for alignment and trimming at the binding stage. BUT, while the PDF software CAN do imposition, it is NOT imposition of spreads that I need. It is imposition of pages AND .... Phew! IF I export, from Publisher, as Pages, THEN it puts bleed round each page. That is, Bleed round FOUR sides of each page (not round each spread)!!! So then, when the imposition is done, there are two strips of bleed down the middle of each spread! Ouch!! This is NOT what is required. If I export as pages WITHOUT bleed, then the imposition in the PDF software does look fine. BUT there is no bleed, crop marks etc. So, although this looks nice on the monitor, it is NOT suitable for printing and binding when I need to trim the text block on the Crop Marks. There are additional, still serious, problems. I use Affinity Photo for photo-editing but, when I put a Photo image into Publisher, the colours change. I have checked and I have the same colour profile in each. I have also checked using Windows Explorer preview window. There is NO difference between the image in Photo and Windows Explorer (preview), but the same image in Publisher is significantly different. When I try my workaround by creating a PDF file, I have not yet found a way to get a PDF that does not change the colours. My monitor is a high-end NEC with its own 14-bit LUT and I re-calibrate it every two weeks. Surely all I need MUST be in Publisher but I have not found it yet. I have searched the tutorials but found no reference. I have been struggling with this for two years (from PagePlus9 days). The imposition algorithm is utterly trivial. I expected to find it under Print but can't see it. Where is it? I will be eternally grateful to anyone who can help me solve this problem. I have spent two years on this project, spent many thousands of dollars all the time assuming that printing a small book would be a feature in any publishing software. I have asked this question before and people have been sympathetic but could offer me no solution. I hope someone out there knows the answer. Splitting my file into several files is not practical as small changes are likely to be made from one printing to the next and these would cascade over all subsequent files. There is also the problem of all the photos covering entire spreads, not just pages. Sincerely, Robin
  14. Page Plus enables exporting of files to PDF in various forms, including 'PDF Slideshow'. The current Beta of Publisher doesn't seem to have this facility. Is it coming, or is there another way to turn a Publisher file into a slideshow?
  15. Hi I'm unable to export this file to PDF: also trying a copy/paste of the whole content on a new file doesn't solve the problem (nor changing the destination of the PDF file) Error message is "An error occurred while exporting to:". Using Affininty ver 1.6.5.135 on W10 - this the only file with such a problem. Thanks in advance Regards Gottardo Cover BUG.afdesign
  16. When exporting as PDF for web it is default to only embed uncommon fonts. I have recently exported a file for web using Arial and, when viewing on iOS devices (possibly Android also), the "i" is missing each time it is after an "f" ...a kerning issue. Before, I only noticed that it effects font styles, but this is annoying. Couldn't it be default to embed all fonts in this situation? Otherwise I need to remember to switch it in the extra settings on export.
  17. I tried exporting a mock booklet I created to pdf but it wouldn't give me crop marks. Is there a way?

    PDF export takes forever

Whenever I try to export something as a PDF it just kind of hangs up with the generating export animation. I’ve let it go for like a solid 10 minutes now. Any idea how I can make this work better? I’ve attached an image of my export settings while it’s generating. Any help is appreciated! Thank you.
  19. Hello, i'm having an issue exporting a PDF for a print job. I have different layers for the artwork, the guide and the notes. When i export the file it is just a flat PDF with a white background, as apposed to a PDF that opens with the layers. How do i export with the option to show hide layers in other software, or even with a blank background? At the moment the white artwork just gets flattened into a white background and i'm just exporting a blank image. Thanks.
  20. Hi I'm trying to export my 4k document (3840x2160) to a PDF and then convert it to Illustrator and After Effects. However when I export it the output is resized to 1080 for some reason. If I export it to PNG it exports fime to the proper dimensions. Can you please help me? I've tried using max res settings as well as not rasterizing anything. I can resize the vectors accordingly so it's ok, its just an extra step that I'd like to avoid. Best, Michael
  21. When placing a PDF (advert) with bleed and crop marks, Affinity Publisher only places the file as cropped. Is this intentional? This is very unexpected and I can see how it can be useful in some situations. However, It is far more useful to me to have the bleed and crop marks showing. I have only been able to resolve this by converting the file to eps.
  22. I get an error when I export a document to pdf (for print) with linked Designer files. Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6.
  23. I am using Designer to make assets for a board game, and the slice tool is really great for separating into the digital vs print needs. However, when I open them to print, it's made assumptions about the scaling. I'm exporting at 300dpi because that's the print size but most are scaling them to fit. If I manually export, I can set the scaling and paper size. Is there any way for me to change these settings upon batch export? If not, does anyone have any workflow suggestions to do this? I can't be the only one with this problem.
  24. Right now I'm having an issue where all exported PDFs that have text won't print. To verify this I made a document with text only. It exports fine and displays in acrobat correctly, but as soon as I try to print acrobat gives a "This document could not be printed" error. Note I tried a variety of fonts. I also tried printing from other computers and I get the same error. If I convert all text to areas/curves it works fine. So it seems to be directly related to fonts. Any ideas?
  25. I'm combining vector shapes and vector brushes, both colored with the same spot color. After the export to PDF, the spot color is preserved in vector shapes with fills and basic strokes only. Vector brushes with textured strokes are still translated in to CMYK colors. Is this bug or missing feature?
