  1. I've created a postcard sized document. The top and bottom of the page are pixel layers with fill layers added for gradient and pattern effects. The document views correctly when editing or exporting as an image file (jpeg, png) but when exported as a PDF for printing then the fill layers are incorrect. The fill layers are not filling the object and are cropped inside the pixel layer. See attached for the document and also the rendered jpg and pdf. Invite.afpub Invite1.pdf
  2. Hi. New on AD. I opened a few times, but still trying to find my way (too long on AI). I exported a 2D drawing from Rhino as a PDF (since AI is not supported). I would like to assign different thicknesses to some of the lines of my drawing. The drawing lines are not joined in Rhino. When I open the PDF in AD the sketch looks to be all merged (using black arrow). Using the white arrow I just have too many nodes in every line to select them one by one, not even sure if this is the way. I would like to ask for help in this matter. Kind regards ,
  3. Hi Is it possible to export to PDF with better use of metadata? The metadata passes, but editing in Acrobat Pro is required to display the title and not the file name. Maybe to expand the Fields palette so that you can tag fields and then move it to pdf? It would be convenient when creating PDF UA.
  4. Good morning, I have the problem, that the documents, exporting to PDF ar much darker than in the Affinity Programs. What am I doing wrong? I'd be happy if you could help me. Renate
  5. So, in the old versions of PagePlus X8 and X9, I could Insert > PDF Bookmarks automatically, by choosing which text styles were in which part of the bookmark hierarchy. So Heading 1 would be a main bookmark, and Heading 2 would be a level beneath it. When I exported to PDF (and ticked the Include bookmarks tickbox), I'd get all the bookmarks in my PDF no problem. I can't find this functionality within Affinity Publisher. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?
  6. Bleed Inner 0 Outer 0.125 Top 0.125 Bottom 0.125 When exporting to PDF, the inner edges look all screwed up. It's taking graphics from right side inner and putting it in left side inner and graphics from left side into right side. Just place an image on right page to the inner edge and export to PDF, then look at the left page and right page.
  7. Could this please be made clearer in Affinity Publisher's "help" or even on the PDF dialogues? I needed to create a multi-page A5 folded brochure. My commercial printing service wanted the PDF to contain "separate pages" rather than "spreads." As someone who is new to commercial printing, it was not obvious how to translate the language of the printer's requirements into language used by Affinity. To clarify: Affinity's "All Spreads" PDF exports eg. facing pages of a booklet as double-page spreads; but how they are viewed... ie. not arranged for printing. Affinity's "All Pages" PDF exports eg. facing pages of a booklet as a series of single pages, in consecutive order. Unlike PagePlus, Affinity Publisher does not appear to have a mode which exports pages arranged to suit printing. 8. I have a simple document in Publisher with some images placed inside. After placing them inside the Publisher document, I have edited the images using the Photo persona, just tweaking the levels a bit. The image looks correct inside Publisher, but looks bad in PDF - almost as if the edits I made in Photo persona were not applied at all. I am exporting to PDF with the "PDF (for print)" settings applied. I have also tried setting the Rasterise property from "Nothing" to "Unsupported properties", which does seem to apply the adjusted levels to the image, but in an overly-corrective way. Just to be sure: I am trying to have the PDF look as the thing I see in Publisher. Could anyone push me in the right direction, please? source_file.afpub
  9. I've just started the trial for Affinity Photo, having heard a lot of good things about it, and I've been loving it for the most part except for the fact that in several areas it's destroying my workflow and efficiency, so I wanted to ask if I'm doing things wrong being used to Photoshop and all that. I'm working and testing Affinity Photo on an 8MP pixel art image, and I've noticed that compared to the file import on Photoshop the result is quite blurry (see attachment). After some fiddling around I found out that on AP the problem comes from drag & dropping the image on the canvas: if I drag & drop the file it turns out like the chest in the right half; if I place the file it turns out like the one in the left half. Both are at their native resolution, and both are imported as Images. Opening the menu and selecting place for every single asset is quite lengthy and workflow destructive. Is there a way to emulate the placement while drag & dropping from the file manager? Shouldn't it work the same way? Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug? The 2nd most damning problem I have is with the clone tool: I'm working on a very structured file with hundreds of layers and subgroups, and one of the feature I used the most in Photoshop is the clone tool mode that allows selection from all layers, both above and below the currently active layer. Is this a feature that can be added in AP? Addendum 2: while working on it some more I noticed another pretty damning issue while working with pixel art. Applying a rotation to any object it starts getting blurry due to the diagonal approximation, but the ridiculous thing is that in 90° the image doesn't get back to crisp, only 180°. So, while in theory a turn left/right shouldn't involve any resampling, it actually does, which is quite problematic. (Solution to this seems to be View > Snapping Manager > Enable snapping and Force pixel alignment, though it still feels kind of wrong to interpolate on simple 90° turns?) Addendum 1: is there a way, while drag & dropping files into the canvas, to automatically place it in the current group/subgroup instead of automatically place it as the top layer? That's another thing that works while Place'ing, but doesn't while dragging files from Explorer (didn't test it on a Mac yet, I don't know if the behaviour also happens with Finder). Finally, not really related to pixel art, is a question related to PDFs. In Photoshop while importing from a PDF you have a thumbnail preview of the pages where you can select them and then import those pages only. I see that AP can do mostly the same but has no thumbnail available, so the user must know the page range beforehand. Is there a way to do it on the fly while visually scanning the document or do I have to stick to CS6 for that? I'm loving AP so far, with these couple exceptions: it runs butter smooth, is very efficient, tries to stay out of the way during creative work… everything I was looking for!
  10. I have created an extensive document with many PNGs with transparency. I want to provide and compress them as PDF eBook. However, with normal printing of the compressed PDFs, the images are printed with a black background. This does not happen when printing uncompressed PDFs. Here the printout and the file:
  11. Hey guys, I worked all morning on a file that was based solely visually on a PDF. After one hour I saved the file and worked on it for another 2 hours. I just wanted to adapt the name of the reference PDF, searched for it in the Save As dialog and selected the file to avoid typing the file name manually (admittedly, I didn't double check, it was supposed to quickly save the file, but yeah I should've known better). I closed the document and left for lunch. When I came back I got an error message trying to open the file because it appeared to be saved in an unknown file format. Specifically as a file that was edited in Publisher but apparently saved as a PDF – when the file was saved, the suffix was also incorporated! Why doesn't the user get an error message or at least a warning dialog? How is it even possible that I could continue working for 2 hours in a seemingly corrupt document and didn't get a single hint of incompatibility due to wrong/double suffixes? Not even when occasionally quick saving (Ctrl + S)! But … luckily I remembered the solution from experience during my "Adobe-era" that by changing the suffix (usually hidden in Windows) manually you can sometimes get the file back to work. Adobe itself has found a solution: when selecting an existing file, somehow only the actual file name (everything preceding the .suffix) is inherited. Nonetheless I think this should be considered a bug! Cheers MrDoodlezz
  12. Hi guys, Affinity Designer ( Latest Version ) Macbook pro 2018. So I am making labels for a meat factory in Iceland. I noticed a problem when i exported the project ( PDF for print ) The outlines go missing. The print factory head designer called me and told me that he just got boxes instead of perfectly shaped outlines. I have pictures that show, The project how it looks and with "outline view mode". and a photo after export and with "outline view mode" The printing factory wants to see the outlines to make sure that the printers will not make mistakes. I have tried all the things I know, exporting with different settings, making everything as curves, and blablabla. Please tell me how to fix this :) Thanks, -Geir.
  13. I have a Publisher file with color profile CMYK Coated FOGRA39 in which different Publisher and Designer files with the same color profile are embedded. In all of these documents I am using the same color palette and everything looks fine in the main publisher file. But when I export it as PDF same colors clearly have different shades, depending on wether an element was part of the main file or an embedded file. If I import the PDF into publisher again, all is fine again and same colors have the same CMYK values. But as I said, the PDF looks wrong on my screen. Any help is appreciated!
  14. I am trying make a songbook in Publisher which I previously made in InDesign. The notation was initially made in Finale and the exported as a PDF-file and placed in InDesign. I want to make the same songbook in Publisher and this time I have also switched to a new notation program called Dorico. But when placing the new pdf exported from Dorico it appears with some graphic errors which never appeared in InDesign. Is this a known bug or do any of you have any suggestions? Look at the screenshots below. Here is the old pdf exported from Finale and placed in Publisher: And here is the new PDF exported from Dorico and placed in Publisher. I have drawn rings around the anomalies: And here is the same PDF as above when placed in InDesign: An exported SVG-file is coming up perfectly, so maybe that is the way to go:
  15. When opening a PDF the warning comes up about missing fonts and I understand that Photo can't (yet!) import embedded fonts. If I ignore the invitation to replace missing fonts the PDF file opens and the text fonts appear as they should. How is this possible - has Photo converted the text font to a raster or vector layer to keep the same appearance of the font even if the font is not on the computer? When opening a multi-page PDF in Photo is it possible to separate out and export the individual PDF pages? It looks like each page is put into its own layer and all layers (over 200) are selected by default. Is there a quick way to deselect all layers in the Layers Panel? Many thanks
  16. This doesn't happen on normal export to PDF. This doesn't happen on export to x-1 or x-4. This only happens on exporting to x-3 PDF to the best of my testing ability When you have an image background and then overlay a transparent image, the overlapping pixels become slightly miscolored. Not enough to jump out, but enough that if sent to a professional printer, it will be visible on the page. I've attached a quick af.pub file and a screenshot taken from my PDF viewer (chrome) of this afpub file exported to X-3 PDF standard. To recreate 1) Create af.pub 2) Find a solid color image (doesn't need to be solid color, but easier to see this way) 3) Place solid color image on master page 4) In page mode, place an image that has transparency (PNG, etc.) over the background image. 5) Export to x-3:PDF standard, open and look at the overlayed image transparent pixels pdf_transparency_miscoloration_x3.zip
  17. [Last exception 2100 in PDF_clip]["Function must not be called in 'page' scope"] Error happens on both x1a and x3. X4 (and normal PDF) works fine. I believe I know the problem - transparent images. x4 supports transparent images, but x1a and x3 doesn't. I need to export to either x1 or x3 for my print-on-demand provider. Can we flatten/rasterize any transparent images with page background so we can have a x1 or x3 compliant PDF? I'm using PNG files with transparencies as linked resources. thanks
  18. How can i open a PDF in exactly the size it has in my pdf viewer? It always gets cropped and the empty space between content and document border is removed...
  19. Is it possible to import a PDF to Affinity Publisher and convert text to curves ? So if there are fonts included in the PDF not available on my PC they won't be substituted to other fonts but remain looking the same as they were but as uneditable curves ? Thanks
  20. I create greeting cards in affinity designer and get them ready for print. I make 2 artboards with bleed, and export them in PDF format. However when i check the file it shows part of the document completely blank. I've tried changing settings and export methods but it keeps on exporting a blank page. Is there a way to fix this? Does anyone know what's causing this? The full file: (i blacked out the designs for the screenshot) And this is what the PDF looks like: Completely blank..
  21. This is a nightmare. PDF export just mangles all the text - well not all of it, just most of it. Randomly it leaves bits ok even with exactly the same font, styles, colours, weights, and the same master objects applied - you can see in the screenshots one spread in the doc is ok and one is not (most aren;t) . Some headings are ok but body text is mashed. There's no logic to this, nothing consistent about why and how it fails. Publisher came out just in time for me to start these two jobs with a hard print deadline. After 2 - 3 days of arsing about trying to fix this problem after setting 120 pages, I thought I'd finally solved this by stopping using my FontBase font manager, removing all the Montserrat font versions and reinstalling them to system fonts and trying again for the upteenth time. So I started the other doc. But it's back again. The problem is, every time I do this reinstalling fonts process, the document seems to interpret the fonts as new fonts, substituting the old, then I have to go through and set everything again. Like hundreds of Latin names in italic in the body copy I will have to go through and manually do again and again, every time it happens. And many more issues besides will need to be addressed again. This is a real problem. I see someone else has it to - I commented on that thread days back but there's no response on there. This is Windows 10 Pro, Montserrat (Google font) - marked as fully embeddable. I tried turning off the subset option on exports dozens of times and it makes no difference. It's extended this job into days more than it should have been. I really like what you're trying to do with this suite of software but please please please get this sorted - people are trying to produce pro documents for print but we're falling at the last hurdle. It's pretty crashy too but the recovery so far has been reasonably good. Plenty of other niggles with things but the PDF export thing really really needs sorting though. Please can somebody look into this urgently?
  22. Using the scripts that Dan provided for turning on debugging the pdflib, I was able to figure out what is causing my Export to PDF error. The problem was: I traced this to a hyperlink to an anchor on page 17 of my document going to page 69. I removed the hyperlink and tried to export again. Then, I also need to remove a second hyperlink on the same page: When I removed both hyperlinks on page 17, everything exported. However, I need these hyperlinks on page 17 and I don't know why the "left" value is less than 0. Both hyperlink text are just phrases within the text frame on the page. There's nothing different than any of the hyperlinks on prior pages that work. Both of these exception occur on pg 17, going to page 63 and page 69. thanks,
  23. Please look at the two screenshots. The left one is the design as laid out in AD, and the right one is the one after the PDF export. You'll notice that the dotted line is messed up. Please investigate and fix. Thanks so much, guys! Helmar
