Hii everyone, I'm fairly new to Affinity Photo and I was wondering if someone could explain what the output means in Affinity Photo 2? When opening a photo I want to edit, I can choose between the following three options before developing: pixel layer, RAW layer (embedded) and RAW layer (linked). What's the difference between these three and which option do I choose when I want to edit my RAW photos? Thanks!

Hi. Although imposition of page numbers on a booklet is working, it is not possible to SAVE any document to the PDF printer at the bottom of the printer list. This means that booklets cannot actually be printed with the correct Affinity-created page numbers because EXPORTING to PDF format does not hold the imposition needed. Currently, it appears that the only way would be through that (virtual) PDF printer. (I note that the TUTORIAL on printing booklets conveniently terminates before the printing command is invoked. https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/tutorials/publisher/desktop/video/337465816 Perhaps the procedure will be clearer once this tutorial has been updated to cover Affinity Publisher 1.7.3.481) It rather looks as if we will have to continue publication of our magazine using the older Serif PagePlus X9 for a little while yet. Anyone know how little?

Hello, I'm interested in Affinity Photo on the desktop to supplement my workflow (I do not have or use Adobe software and will not be renting any). I work mostly in the RGB color space and occasionally need to send files for printing offset in CMYK. Can Photo convert an image (TIFF) to CMYK? Thanks!

Hi, On the Print dialogue box we have FIT TYPE SCALE and FIT TO PRINTABLE, both terminologies self explanatory, that is until affinity invented something bizarre methinks. I have been experimenting and printing A4 Landscape facing pages designed to be read as A5 page booklet. Now when I use 12 and 14 point fonts and print out on FIT TO PRINTABLE, everything fits, except that my fonts are so much smaller than 12 point, more like 9 and 10 point, but it fits and the preview panel shows a good resemblance to the print and the on screen page. When I print on FIT TYPE SCALE, we have a TRUE output that is what I designed in affinity, IE 12 and 14 point print out at 12 and 14 point, Except that now it simply does not fit on the page and the preview does indeed have a red overlay indicating an error. The question I have is this: The latter printout does in no way reflect what I see on my design on screen. Mmmm........? This then appears to constitute reversal of wysiwyg, or a rather wysiNwyg. Thanks Chris

Selection context menus different
LLM posted a topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on iPad Questions
I have both an iPad 9.7 (2017) and an IPad Pro 2 and have found that the contextual menus are different. Using Refine Mask Tool, there are no output options on the smaller iPad. On both iPads the brush only refined at approx. 50% and didn't fully mask the adjacent area. When I am using the Selection Brush and switch to Subtract, the selection keeps deselecting. Most of my work is compositing and these glitches are very frustrating .- 2 replies

Here's the thing. Affinity changed the way I work. I'm not shy of using raster based effects anymore as they're handled well across the apps. It creates a problem with PDF output though. Text outlines inevitably blur when they are anti-aliased against their background. To a point that can be addressed by exporting with different resampling algorithms. But some text just has to stay vector based. Right now, both apps just crash when I export my layouts to PDF. Stacked LUTs, live filters, item blurs, mixed media items parented to text objects… it's a problem factory. Ideally we could have a way of tagging a shape or text layer and say: I need this to stay intact. The app then "does stuff" to rasterise unpremult, duplicate the shape and whatnot to make sure the tagged objects come out as vector shapes in the PDF. It can all be flattened with the text outline slightly eroded inwards behind a vector shape even. It's similar to what I'm doing right now. Export my document to several layers and put them back together in a simplified way, re-nesting flattened elements. Another option would be "output layers" for lack of a better term. Like groups you'd put items into them in the way you want the output to be organised. Everything in these would then get flattened, retaining the original appearance by baking in blend more results into the objects so they all just have an alpha and nothing more. In return this makes it easier to retain vector shapes. Either via dilate, bake and nest or by pixel tracing how the vectors would be affected by raster effects. In some cases it could even be sufficient to render these effects as a mesh gradient fill or a set of vector shapes blended together.

I use level adjustments all the time. In the Photoshop levels adjustment there are the input settings and gamma setting at the top but at the bottom there are also output settings. I do use all of them at different times. Is there a way to adjust the output settings in Photo similar to how they would be adjusted in PS? I'm fine if it requires a different adjustment layer, although it would be great if it was located inside the levels adjustment. Cheers! Jeff

I have been working on a cover design in Affinity Designer and I was curious as to how publishers like to receive files. Do I send the native Affinity file or a PDF or something else? I ask because the set up is different then it has been in the past. The people writing the book are doing the work in Word instead of a layout program for an example. I would love to know what experiences others have had in this area. When I self published by first book with InDesign (just using a basic laser printer) I would export the interior as a PDF and then print the cover straight out of InDesign. Since the cover is just one page (of course) I figured Affinity could handle that job.

Hi, I am using a MAS version of affinity photo 1.4.3 and every time I try to make a selection and have the output as New Layer then click apply, nothing happens. A new layer comes up but it's blank... Anyone else have this issue or know why it is happening? This just started in the last week. Jason
