  1. Hi, hope everyone is doing well. I have a question regarding what kind of performance would I get with the Affinity 2.0 apps if I purchased an M2 iPad Pro with the maxed out 16GB RAM. Are the Affinity 2.0 apps optimized to utilize the full power of M2 and the max 16GB RAM? And please, it would be lovely if I can get the RAM size or portion that each Designer, Photo, and Puplisher occupy when started with 1 empty layer or blank canvas.
  2. I know I'm not the first person to request this; apparently a couple requests were made back in 2015 and it still hasn't been implemented. In Adobe Illustrator, when you export to SVG, all of the various hidden layers are exported as well, with display="inline" and display="none" being put on visible and invisible layers, respectfully. Part of my HTML5 game is built around showing and hiding various layers of an SVG, using css classes to show different layers at different times. The build pipeline for the game takes Illustrator's odd converting of layer names into pseudo-html-safe strings and reverts them to be used as class names on the elements, and I was happy to redo that bit to function with however Designer outputs its SVG and re-prepare it for use in my project. But Affinity Designer just removes the hidden layers, period. There's no option to NOT have it remove the layers, there's only an option to remove additional layers for some odd reason. I get the reasoning behind wanting to optimize SVG for the web, but that should be an option left for me to decide, not have it dictated to me by the program. I have an SVG optimizer already in my build pipeline, and its tailored to my needs, meaning it doesn't remove the hidden layers I want to keep while still allowing me to remove bloated pixel data that might be left over. Why is turning off this unwanted optimizing not an option in Designer? And more importantly, why is it still not an option after apparently five years of it being requested? And before it's suggested again, no, just unhiding all the layers is not a suitable work around. It's tedious to have to make sure every nook and cranny of a complex SVG is unhidden just so it will export, and couple that with the fact that I have several of these SVGs, and it's just not worth the hassle. Plus, it's nice that the SVGs inherently look correct when viewed outside the game window because their initial hidden/shown properties are kept, while still being able to work correctly. I was recommended the Affinity suite as a cross-platform replacement for Adobe's suite (I'm basically using a decades-old version to avoid the subscription stupidity). But this behavior (coupled with the lack of support for opening AI files natively - though I can understand why for that) is a major deal breaker...
  3. Are the affinity products for PC optimized for either Intel or AMD? Or, for any particular GPU??
  4. Please optimize the ComboBox size. For example, the Context Toolbar of the Paint Brush Tool, where the maximum possible values are entered. As you can see, the ComboBoxes are unnecessarily large, which in turn removes the available space in the Context Toolbar so that it does not fit all the necessary items. P.S. Although in this case, "Protect Alpha" would certainly fit without ComboBox optimization.
  5. I purchased Affinity Designer several months ago to facilitate my web development flow while avoiding subscription-based software (Illustrator) and buggy freeware (Inkscape). Creating web designs in AD is a superb experience, but exporting parts as SVG for web usage, often interactive, is an absolute nightmare. My workflow bottlenecks hard when I have to manually modify a majority of the elements within the file. Worst yet, if any design change is required I have to manually modify the elements again on a fresh export. To be completely honest, if Inkscape didn't crash and corrupt so frequently I'd put up with its awful UX purely for its web-oriented SVG exporting advantage. Steps I frequently need to do manually for web usage and file size reduction: Create style element and convert matching style attributes into shared classes Reduce excessive tspan occurrences Convert common positioning to group transforms Occasionally convert absolute to relative coordinates (paths, lines, etc.) Add custom attributes (ex: Vue.js attributes) Remove AD attributes (serif:id) What can I do within AD to reduce the amount of manual corrections on web-oriented SVG exports? Are there any plans to add such features to AD in the near future? A personal example of a prettified AD file without any other modification:
Viel Spaß Euer Jack In this Affinity Photo Tutorial, I show you from my serie photo optimization how to improve a photo. There are no great effects, but many details which hopefully improve the result. Have fun Your Jack Link to Video Tutorial Foto / photo: eigenes / self made
  7. Hey! I just started using Affinity Designer (win beta) over Fireworks about a week ago. Thus far I absolutely love it and everything I've wanted to do has followed a similar logic to how things work in FW, which makes the transition quite easy. Today I ran in to the first situation where I can't seem to figure out how to do something as well (or better) than in Fireworks. That is to export a circular logo in transparent PNG-8 form optimized as well as I did all the time with Fireworks, without having jagged edges / antialiasing issues with the logo. I've attached all the files of my tests below. I did try many other more specific settings with Affinity too, trying to find a good solution but I can't seem to figure out how to get the same results as I do with FW. Original file: 27,6 KB Fireworks export PNG-8: 13,2 KB Affinity export PNG-24: 29,9 KB Affinity export PNG-8, with jagged edges: 12,9 KB For web purposes this is a big enough difference that I need to disturb my workflow and jump back to Fireworks to do these types of things. I'm hoping someone has more experience with this sort of thing in Affinity and can give me a solution that can reach the same filesize as FW without those jagged edges that I seem to get when exporting PNG-8 from Affinity Designer. Anyone? :)
  8. I'd like to reduce the number of points in a SVG map. Right now it loads ok, but it should load faster. The map is large and complex enough as to make it impossible to do this by hand. I noticed that Adobe Illustrator - which I don't have - has a feature called "simplify" for exactly this purpose. I was wondering if Affinity Designer has a similar feature. I looked around but I wasn't able to find anything like that. However, I am not an expert Affinity Designer user, so may be there is somehow a way to do this. Thank you very much in advance for you support, Franco
  9. I'm attempting to optimize my website, which Google PageSpeed Insights says is lagging due to images not being optimized. I've also discovered a website, TinyPNG, that optimizes images. My initial tests have gone well, and I've noticed there is Photoshop plugin for TinyPNG. Does anyone have any experience with this plugin? Will it even work in Designer or Photo?
