  1. I have a text object with three separate lines of text, one word on each line. I'd like to alter the opacity of each word - 100% on top, 80% on the middle line, and 60% on the bottom. However, when I try to do this, opacity changes for the entire box, not just the word I have selected... Is it possible to do what I'm attempting? Or, do I have to create three separate text objects?
  2. I hope the devs take a look at this issue. With the new gradient tool apparently the last point of the gradient prompts the tool to bring up the colour wheel but this tool has many other aspects such as opacity, accumulation, distance sliders, placement on continuum, all of these are important to gradients. In order to have all of this to work with one needs to take the extra step to click on the layer to bring up the window that contains all the above including the ability to choose whichever colour scheme one desires to work with. Personally this is an extremely annoying issue and a step backwards. This tool should not dictate the workflow.
  3. Hey guys, Just bought Affinity Photo and since there's no Opacity + Flow pressure sensitivity options, I've pulled a rabbit out of a hat and starting off with some tips from this thread I've made some brushes and thought of sharing them with the nice people on these forums. The last in the list I think are especially useful for paiting. Hope you'll like them. Painter's Brushset 2.afbrushes.zip
  4. Hi all My first attempt at using Publisher Beta Version 1.7.0.206. I needed to create a square image for Instagram to advertise a concert. I had a square image of the church which I imported into publisher. It was rather large so I had to reduce the size by dragging a corner to fit on the page. Although the edges of the image were visible in what I would call the work area around the page the photo's detail was not, which I found strange. The image was too bright to show the white text I wanted to use so I drew a grey rectangle over it and reduced the opacity to 64%. I then used the artistic text to layout the text. I was surprised to find how easy it was to line up the various text sizes. Once I was happy with the text layout I grouped them then used select all and aligned all objects centrally on the page horizontally and vertically. I then exported as a png using selection with background. So my first impressions are that this is excellent software apart from the work area. I need to create a multiple page document to see if its possible to park objects in the work area to move from one page to another. As objects don't seem to be visible in the work area I'm not sure how this would be possible.
  5. Does anyone here know how to setup the touch ring on a Wacom Graphics tablet to use for opacity, if it's possible? I use a Wacom Intuos Pro 5 Thanks Martigny
  6. When you place an image directly on the canvas, the slider for opacity works as it should. However, when placing an image inside a picture frame, the slider has no effect. When you open the downward triangle to reveal the picture placed within the frame, opacity change is not available. Either this is a bug or it makes the excellent picture frame tool a lot less useful.
  8. I only found this strange effect after quite a bit of chin stroking and hair pulling with something that was confusing the heck out of me. Workflow to re-create the issue (in Designer for Windows): 1. Create a new document containing an artboard (A5 landscape will be fine). 2. Draw a triangle that almost covers the whole artboard (don't go near the edges so you can see the effect better). 3. Give the triangle a Black stroke colour and a thick stroke width (16pt will be fine). 4. Go the the Export persona and export the artboard as "SVG (for web)". 5. View the exported SVG in a browser. All should look just fine at this point. 6. Go back to the Draw persona. 7. Select the artboard layer - NOT the triangle layer (but it does the same thing either way). 8. Change the Opacity of that layer to 90% (this is the thing I did by accident that was producing the strange problem). 9. Go back the the Export persona and export the artboard as "SVG (for web)" again. 5. View the exported SVG in a browser. The image now looks blurred. It's actually an SVG containing a raster of the triangle. You can prove this by editing the SVG in a text editor. Is this expected behaviour? (It took me ages to figure out what I'd done "wrong".) I did a quick search and only found the following related issue: * https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/63257-texts-rasterized-when-exporting-to-pdf
  9. When using the overlay brush in develop i have to repeatedly go over the area to achieve 100% opacity. I have tried setting brush attributes that work for other brushes but this does not work on the overlay brush, plus I have tried using a tablet & pen and a mouse. Where can I change the attributes for this brush?
  10. Hi, I have a logo that has some solid elements, but also some elements that have a 50% opacity. I've tried exporting as an eps in a number of different ways but every time I import the eps in to photoshop the semi transparent elements become a solid colour. Can anybody help, it's driving me insane! :-) Basically I need a semi transparent logo. Hope somebody can help me. Many thanks.
  11. hi there, I am amazed about the beautiful UI and the ease of use of this new app :) is there a way to set the opacity of the active layer by keyboard shortcuts? e.g. in photoshop you simply use the numberpad for this. thanks, rob
  12. This has been an issue for a while now. The blur brush tool adjustments in the tool bar (opacity, hardness and flow) don't seem to be doing anything. I've been using affinity photo now for about 7 months now. This never used to be an issue - the opacity, hardness and flow sliders would all have an effect on the blur brush tool. However all of the sudden, one day they stopped working and the blur brush tool is stuck on max blur! Can anybody tell me why or how to fix this? Note: these adjustments work just fine on paint brushes, burn/dodge brush tools etc its only an issue with the blur tool.
  13. Hello, just wondering how to do the following with Affinity. Let's say i have a photo of a nude woman and want to add some sort of transparency that when you see the photo of the nude woman, you do not see the skin, you see the photo of a landscape or a pattern. Hopefully, i am able to explain what i am looking for. Thanks for your help,
  14. OK...... When I am in pixel persona and I select a brush...ANY BRUSH and then turn down the opacity....... it de-selects the brush. I have tried it all I have tried unplugging my graphics tablet I have tried using my mouse I have tried installing the new version of Designer I have tried restarting the program and my computer. The only thing I have NOT done is uninstall and reinstall because there are a ton of profiles and brushes that I will manually have to go in and reinstall.......and I do not have th afternoon to do it Any help is greatly appreciated J
  15. Hello Affinity, I'm so glad to see an app like this in the marketplace. However, I can't use it for digital painting and illustration yet because of one MAJOR missing feature: Tablet pressure controlled opacity with the paint brush. As it stands you can set pressure on brush size and flow (among other things) but for digital painters opacity is the most important pressure control you can have. I'd say it's pretty darn important for retouchers as well. Please add this feature soon, because as of now Affinity Photo is unusable for me. Thanks!
  16. Hi, I am looking for a way to control the opacity of lightening and darkening effect of blending a layer separately. Such as 10% opacity for darkening and 65% opacity for lightening. What I am NOT looking for - duplication of the layer and have the two layers blend with different blend modes. The problem is that the top layer would then be applied on the result of blending the lower layer, changing the final result. Another problem is that changes to one instance of the layer would need to be manually propagated to the duplicate. - blending based on the absolute luminosity of the current layer, or absolute luminosity of the lower layer. It is their relative luminosity which is important instead. One of the things this would enable is selective control of the opacity of the dark and light halos you get with Unsharp mask live filter. Thanks
  17. Hi, I am a beginner at affinity photo and I am trying to create virtual graduated filters using gradients on adjustment layers but I've ran into a problem: Whenever I try and use the gradient tool there is a weird box. Whenever I edit the gradient points it looks normal but when I let go the gradient is only constrained to the box: (Gradient while mouse is editing one of the points) (Gradient while mouse is not editing the points) Is there anyway I can fix this problem so my image can look normal? Thanks, Jayvin
  18. Hi, how can I please easily adjust Opacity and Hardness with tablet (Wacom Intuos Pro)? I would like to have on the wheel not only Brush Size (by [ ]), but also Opacity and Hardness of the brush.... If it was possible to set Keyboard Shortcuts for Opacity and Hardness, it would be OK, but in the shortcuts there is only the size Thanks Jindra
  19. I have two instances of a symbol in a layer. One of them, I want to make transparent. I assume I can treat one instance as a layer and set its opacity, how would I otherwise apply layer effects to one instance? However, when I adjust the LAYER opacity on a SYMBOL, all other instances of the symbol also go transparent. Looks like a bug to me, since I am not editing the curve inside the symbol.
  20. Hi there! I've just downloaded the trial for Affinity Photo for Windows, and am planning to buy it sometime soon. I've been trying to fade an image that is on top of another as an overlay (so an image that is partially visible, on top of another image), but finding the opacity slider isn't working. I then tried using the transparency tool, but found that it doesn't exist on my download. I'm sure I'm not doing anything wrong, but there might be something I haven't realised. Could someone point me in the right direction please? Thanks heaps everyone!
  21. I'm an AP newby and I'm trying to use the Inpainting Brush and the Clone Brush. I'm working on a background jpeg layer (single layer file) and I have Opacity and Flow set to 100% when using the Inpaint brush. I paint an area, which gets covered in red. When the progress bar is done the red area is only slightly covered. I still can see the area I intended to change but it looks like the opacity of the brush tool was set to about 50%. I have to apply the inpaint brush 3 times to cover the area. The Clone Brush does the same thing. Is there some setting I'm missing? Thanks in advance, Tom L.
  22. I've encountered a bug: When modifying a global color, the opacity handle has no effect and is not being saved. I can set the opacity when creating the global color, but I cannot modify it afterwards. See screenshot for details.
  23. I've the following problem: I just wanted to make a simple "symbol" with a frame (with a little bit bigger black contour 1pt) and 4 lines inside, somehow grey (and a little bit thinner 0.3pt). I could manage to design it quite fast (using a rectangle and 4 lines - using the Pen tool), but when printed, I had to find out, that the inner lines are somehow pixelated, when I use opacy or any kind of grey color for the contours. The black one is fine (see attached pic). I'm new to Affinity Designer, so I hope, it's just a problem because I did something wrong. Anyone any idea - what's the problem? By the way, the printer is not the problem. I checked it with other programs. There it works well. Test.afdesign
  24. As soon as I adjust a setting in the brush manager, the opacity setting is reset to 100%. Is that intended? It would be great to have an option to link the strokes opacity to its length. This way it would bve much easier to generate fading straight lines using the Shift-key. For that I would also appreciate the possibility to set the starting point without actually setting a point into the image.
  25. Hi, please can some one avidvice me how i can in Affinity Photo use my graphic pen for pressure to control opacity ?
