  1. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but a problem I frequently run into in Affinity Designer is the following: I have an object (such as a rectangle), I make other objects children of this object so they will mask to its bounds, then I find I need to resize the bounds of the parent object. I realize that the intended behavior for resizing a parent element is to resize all of the children elements as if it were any other group. However, I was wondering if there is any method/modifier keys that might let me resize the parent object without modifying the children, just to adjust the bounds. Hopefully this question makes sense... if it isn't possible (which I would not be surprised if it isn't, as it's a rather strange request), is there another easy technique of masking I could use? My usual method is to create parent objects as masks, then just place the objects I wish to mask as children. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
  2. There appears to be a bug in the select same tool, because it selects locked, hidden, locked and hidden objects, groups and layers. This is on Windows 10.19044 and Affinity Designer version 1.10.5.1342. Hardware acceleration is turned OFF. 2022-07-05 17-24-34.mp4
  3. Hi Forum! I have a problem: I want to collapse 2 points of a curve, not to one point, but with a distance. I know this function from many 3D programs like Blender or Cinema4D. See Figure 1. Figure 1: Here the problem is shown simplified on a cube--> trapezoid. But this problem is much more general and can be applied to many different shapes! (I know the trapezoid tool!) I always use workarounds for this e.g. 1: I use an auxiliary curve and then align the points and delete the auxiliary object. See Figure 2. Figure 2: Workaround 1: Use helping curve/object (in black). 2: I only work with coordinates. (I do this very unwillingly!!) So here is my question is there a key compination to achieve this? The problem sounds so simple..... AD is such a good program so I can't believe I am the only one with this problem. Thanks for your help!
  4. When I use the rotate widget, I cannot duplicate the object I am dragging with any of the modifier keys. Please add this option, because hitting duplicate before rotating an object kills the flow for me.
  5. Hi, Whenever I export this file with either of the adjustment layers on, I get this blocky chunk that shouldn't be there. Notice it around the cheekbone in the afdesign file. I only see it when exported into a PDF. It's just a hard straight vertical line. This file is for print, and I'd really like the adjustment layers to work for it, because otherwise it doesn't look as good. 6. Please make adding/modifying appearance of multiple objects at once possible. I know I can paste a style to objects but would be nice if I could edit the appearance at once.
  7. I will be happy if you can add the feature "Expand or Expand appearance" to expand objects in Affinity Designer like in Adobe illustrator. Thank you so much, I hope you will take this request into consideration
  8. Similar to this: The idea is to add a setting panel for colors that allow to edit the color of gradients, and objects in general, simultaneously or singular Adding other options for the settings, as saturation or brightness Most important for SVG format files
  9. I know seeing antialias gap between attached objects on editing screen is normal. But at least I would like you to improve gap problem on export with raster format such as PNG/JPG. (Without aligning to pixel grid, aligning to pixel grid won't work for tile pattern design/symbol sometimes) Adobe IIlustrator has no gap on both editing screen and exported raster file. What kind of magic they have?
  10. Hi, Is there a way to get the exact measurement distance between two nodes on the object in Affinity Designer? Not width not height. In this example the triangle have a rotation. attached the capture. Regards.
  11. I would like to know if there is such an option as "Selection by color or object." I need to change one color in an open project to another  . Manually it is uncomfortable to do for a long time :( . I very often use these functions in the illustrator. The choice of color and object does not pay due attention in all similar projects, and this function allows you to reduce time and money  . I would very much like this feature to be awarded, or similar to it, for example the filter by color and outline, text and so on. Thank you for your work, very much I hope for an answer. :)
  12. Does anyone here know if it's possible to do an 'object count' in an Affinity Designer document? Thanks in advance, Martigny EDIT: I forgot to mention that I know I can count the objects in a layer, but I'd like to be able to count the objects in a whole project.
  13. Hello I moved my workflow at home and now I strangle to find the option to keep the object's aspect ratio when I resize it from the corner. In the office it keep the aspect ration when I resize it but in home I can't figure out what other to do than press shift while resizing (no big deal sure but I love the freedom to work only with the mouse in some operations). Where is the option? Thanks!
  14. It will be an awesome feature if you put a "Selection method according to attribute" which means when we need to Select Same color (Fill or Stroke), same opacity, or same appearance. It is so much helpful after tracing an image to select a range of colors. When working on a flyer or packaging design for production selecting similar color or select strokes that have same thickness or fill color to change together all those needs select with attribute option. Consider a special tool for those selection purpose with a bunch of option to rectify and narrowing selection range or Add all those features to the Move/ Selection tool.
  15. I observed strange behavior when it comes to align objects to other objects that are clipped or masked. I prepared three cases, please watch my little demo video. - Case 1: When I try to align the blue rectangle to the masked group, the object aligns to the most left edge of all the items in the group. I would have expected the object to align to the most left visible edge, but I guess the thought process here is that the objects in the group didn't really change their size. By selecting the mask, I can easily change the visible area. - Case 2: The blue box aligns to the visible edge of the clipping rectangle, makes kind of sense, since clipping to my understanding means that nothing can be "outside" of the "carrier object". However I now can't easily resize the visible part without stretching everything else. - Case 3: This is probably the most weird one....If I mask the objects, just like I did in case 1, but this time I mask the objects themselves, not the group, the alignment is just like in case 2 (blue box aligns to the most left visible point). In my mind this is inconsistent: In case 1, the mask of the group was ignored when it came to alignment, however here, the mask matters for the alignment. Can anybody clear me up on this? Is this all intended behavior and I just don't get it right? 2020_02.12-00_31.mp4
  16. Hello, I ran into a real workflow problem and googling around for hours hasn't brought up any solution. I want to select only a part of the paths an object contains. Not all of them. It seems so basic but I am desperate and can't figure it out. My workflow in illustrator ist: draw with the blobbrush, delete the inner Path and am left with a shape. // In Affinity Designer I can draw and convert my strokes to shapes and join them instead of the blobbrush. With complex shapes I always seem to be able to only select parts point by point or by drawing a complex lasso-selection. Both are not a solution since I can end up with too many points to select that way. Thanks for any help! Here's an image to help clear it up more:
  17. Hi, there seems to be no "one click" way to resize/scale a layer or vector object to the current canvas size. I would love to see this as an option when adding a layer/asset or as a button on the transform tool context bar, because I often have to manually resize assets or new layers when dragging/dropping objects to a document. Seems it would take just little effort to implement this and would incredibly reduce the amount of manual adjustments. What do you think? This feature was already suggested some times as in the threads listed below but it seems there is no easy way to achieve the desired result:
  18. Hi, Say I'm drawing a character, who's made of several body parts, each being a vector object in a separate layer. Then I want to add self-shadow to this character, using yet another vector object (black with low opacity). I currently have to apply the shadow to each body part individually, duplicating the master shadow and clipping it under each body part layer. Is there a way to apply this shadow to the whole character in one go? As I tested: it seems impossible to clip the shadow to a group of objects. When sliding the shadow below the group, it is added as a member to the group instead.
  19. How do I convert afdesign documents/objects to artboards? I would like to combine several Designer documents (all small variations of my logo) into a single document with multiple artboards. I've watched the Desktop Designer Tutorial for artboards, searched the forum for 'designer convert object artboard' and read the "Affinity Designer Help" pages on artboards but can't get any of the methods to work. The Layer -> Convert Object to Artboard command is always grayed out. I tried the cut/paste technique (from the Tutorial) but it just pastes the object into the document (not part of the selected artboard) and the pasted lines & shapes are all fat and distorted. I know this should be easy but I've spent several hours (unsuccessfully) trying to figure it out. Any help will be most appreciated.
  20. When viewing any of several pages with multiple layers, the layer panel only shows a single object. Up/down arrows have to be tapped to view other objects. Have tried, locking, unlocking, show, show all, etc. Is there a way to display all the objects on the page? Is there a restriction that keeps the panel stuck on showing only one object?
  21. How do I avoid white pixels between two snapping objects. When I export to Photo there is a lighter pixel-line in between the two objects
  22. Hi! I am loving affinity designer in comparison to ai...however, there is something so easy that I can't figure out for the life of me! I have a doc/file that has many objects and each has a lot of layers. These layers aren't ordered in groups; therefore, I need to find a select group of layers among the many. I know that I need to click the Shift and have the multilayer button active and " keep clicking through the all the layers to select them"... the problem is that some of the layers have tiny object and I can't get the cursor to acknowledge through the mess of affinity's blue lines (the ones showing that you've selected something). The bottom line...I am hoping that there is a way to just use a marque, a selection brush, or whatever to just selection the object in one motion. When I've tried to do this is puts the marching ants, but none of the coordinating layers are high lighted. I would be most grateful for any advice! Bernie
  23. Hello, Is there an option to select that an object doesn't have to be printed?
  24. When an object is selected it has the blue transformation handles. When moving an object with the keyboard arrows, or nudging it, is there a way to have those handles disappear so that I can see finer details about where I'm placing the object? I feel like this functionality was working when I first installed Affinity, but now it seems to have disappeared. Thanks!
