  1. Hi, Imagine the following scenario shown in this screenshot: Basically, I have 3 separate curves that make up the following grid: OOOOOOOO X------- XBBBBBBB I want to join O and X by "uniting" them (i.e. selecting them both and clicking on the "Addition" icon in the toolbar). What I expect is to get a reverse L shape consisting of 6 anchors, i.e.: MMMMMMMM M------- MBBBBBBB However, what I get is the following: There is this stray anchor (inside the red circle) that somehow breaks this merged shape. If I remove it, it looks like this: I'm never able to join those 2 curves into one. I tried selecting anchors of both curves and clicking on "Close curve"/"Connect curve" (inside the Action bar), but they don't seem to have an effect. I'm sure I misunderstand how curves and anchors work together, if you could help me here and point me towards some resources to better understand them, that would be greatly appreciated! EDIT I just noticed that at the encircled section, there are actually 2 anchors on top of each other (I just deleted them both when I selected them by dragging a selection rectangle around them). If I move one anchor away, I get this: What would be the proper way to merge this two curves?
  2. Hi all: I have found the pencil tool invaluable but there's always one little thing that it would be nice to have: Is it possible that the point at which the line is started could show as a visible coloured node? Whenever I get to what I think is the point where I started, I'm off target! It's not a huge problem but it would make the workflow faster if I didn't have to clean up too many nodes. I attach a poster I made where I used the PT for all those spiral patterns cut into the kerbstone at Newgrange. It could be that I'm just not using it properly and my apologies if that's the case. BTW I'm absolutely delighted at the way AD is working. Best wishes to all the team,, Kevin
  3. Hi there. The ability to distribute objects is really useful, but I would really love to be able to arrange Nodes using several alignment and distribute commands. I would also like to be able to transform a current selection of nodes- Scale, rotate etc.
  4. Hi, 1. I think it is crucial to have the possibility to align node handles in 45 degree steps AFTER they are created. Preferably with a keystroke like alt-shift or something like that, of course. So far it is only possible to so WHILE creating the nodes. 2. I would love to to be able to change both node handles of a curve at the same time in order to keep them equal. So far I just can make them equally one after the other. Thanks and best
  5. Wish I could copy and paste nodes, would be a very useful feature to have.
  6. Hi team, just wondering if there has been any headway on the boolean tidying up issue? See attached. It's weird because it seems inconsistent. It appears that the closer two paths are to each other the more nodes gets placed all along each path and sometimes even a third path is generated from the two intersecting/overlapping paths. What makes this problematic is that after the boolean if you want to further manipulate the resulting shape, you are dealing with sometimes hundreds of nodes. For example here in the attached windshield/windscreen image I would have duplicated the darker "window seal" element to build a shadow area under the upper ridge. Because of all of the nodes now I'm forced to redraw a new element for that and try to get it into the same shape. Not to mention cleaning up and removing unwanted extra pieces... Sorry to keep harping on this but to me this is very important stuff and I hope it's being addressed. :)
  7. Good evening! I try to get used to Affinity Designer and now have a problem to work with nodes from an SVG file. I have a file that gets loaded asa single layer object. I now want to select some nodes and group them as new object or to cut them with ctrl + x but it always cuts the whole big object, not only the selected nodes. I can delete selected nodes. There is the "Divide" tool, that does get most parts separated into own objects, but sometimes has problems with thin lines like with my shield, it makes big filled objects instead of thin lines. Maybe someone can tell me how I can get own objects out of closed nodes? Problem this shield: gets divided to full black objects: HTML5-SVG-SingleObject.svg shild.svg
  8. Would like to know what the different node shape indicators mean. Ex: round, square, red square.
  9. Would like to have hovering or alt-click options for nodes to change them from symmetrical to corner and vice versa. I know there are buttons for this in the options bar but this would still be more efficient. Thanks
  10. Is there any way of reducing the size of the nodes in AD? I've converted some text to vector shapes but the nodes are so big that I find it difficult to see what I'm editing! They just seem rather big and cumbersome compared to Ai. I've been looking for a preferences panel to do this but can't find anything yet. :/
  11. Hi Enjoying Affinity Designer, taking a while to get used to a slightly different interface. I was worling on a vector trace of a Land Rover using a png image on layer 1 as a background image and using Layer 2 to trace the image with the PenTool. Had completed about half of the trace when I was editing the amount of curve at a node and Affinity Designer suddenly dropped out. No error messages. Fortunate I save my creations regularly so the work was not lost. Was able to reload the file without difficulty. Thought this feedback may be of use to you. Brian Clements affinity defender.afdesign
  12. A feature I would love to see is the symmetric node (as in Inkskape). As a designer and illustrator this would be especially useful to me.
  13. Hi, One feature I am struggling to find is being able to select an individual node of a shape after the shape has been created with a shape tool. For example, using the shape tool to create a circle. I would usually create the circle, and then select the node tool this would then allow me to choose an individual node from that shape that I would like to modify the position of. Now some how I did mange to get this to work on a triangle but I can not replicate it. Using the node tool on a shape is very similar to just using move tool on a shape. It would be awesome to have access to those nodes by simply clicking the node tool. :) Other than that it has all the features of illustrator that I need so big thumbs up!! Craig
  14. Hi team, would love to see this addressed soon. Way too many nodes on expanded strokes still. Is this being looked into? To make files airtight when sending out to either clients or printers, I always expand all of my strokes so there are no chances of logo or illo strokes being enlarged or reduced if not set to scale with the object... the current amount of nodes generated is not ideal. See attached. Cheers.
  15. Feature request to enable nodes to be equally distributed along a path, using the align space tool.
  16. So, what’s the different between Smooth & Smart curves? I’ve played around and can’t figure it out.
  17. I know that you are working on adding the ability to scale, move, & rotate only selected nodes of a shape in the workspace, but I don't know if this will enable being able to select several nodes & using the break curve Action button to break them all with one click. That would be a real timesaver for me since as things are now I can only break a curve at one node at a time (& if two or more are selected there is no indication that no break has occurred). Another timesaver would be keyboard shortcuts for at least this action, if not all of them. As an aside, the knife tool already on the roadmap might make this feature irrelevant if it includes the ability to 'snap' to nodes for precision cuts.
  18. Ideally would love to have 2 buttons - to lineup nodes vertically and horizontally - up there with the flip and rotate buttons in the top tool bar. In illustrator it's called "averaging" and it's a 2 step operation, which is a bit of a pain if you do it a lot. See screenshots. There is even an option for both, which can be handy when you need to have two nodes on top of each other or want them to be centred. I can't find a way to do this yet in AD with nodes. If there is way to line up 2 or more "nodes" either vertically or horizontally please let me know. I've tried aligning but that seems to align to coordinates in the document - centre, left, right, top and bottom... Cheers for any insight.
  19. Hi Folks, Newbie here with another silly question! So following on from a previous post I finally managed to draw my descending ribbon using get even tool. I now need to fill it with colour but this is were it has all gone wrong. When I fill the ribbon shape with colour it does not follow the lines in the shape (Sorry this is hard to explain) The shape is made of of three fillable sections with each needing to be a slightly different colour so as not to blend in on itself, I will eventually be removing the thin black pen boarder line you see. When I fill the shape it seems to fill random sections and over fill the boarder line. I have attached the file for someone to have a look at. I'm clueless with this... I know someone out there knows exactly where I am going wrong. Sorry if this is all a bit confusing but as I already said it's a hard one to explain. Hope you can help me out... again! 20. Hello! Sorry if this is a way too obvious question, but I can't find the handles of a sharp node. I created a crescent shape, converted it to curves and added a node. This newly created smooth node I turned it into a sharp one. But this sharp node has no handles! After the crescent shape was converted to curves, it already contaied two sharp nodes WITH handles, but the new sharp node I created has none. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance! H.
  21. Hi, I was wondering if there is a tool in Affinity Designer that would allow me to do what "Add Anchor Points" does in Illustrator (Object > Path > Add Anchor Points). Basically what I'm trying to do is add an anchor point directly between two anchor points on a shape. So, if I create a circle which has 4 anchor points, I'd like to turn it into a circle with 8 anchor points that are evenly spaced. Is there a way to do this? Thanks!
  22. I would like to request that the handle be different somehow than that of the point they control. It gets pretty hard to differentiate the difference when you have a bunch of points and you need to adjust just one. See attached to see what I mean.
  23. Hi folks, Sorry if it sounds like obvious, but actually, I've still not found any way to instantly select —all— external nodes (or the full external path) on the basic following example: Any idea? Thanks for the help.
  24. Perhaps I'm overlooking something obvious but it seems confusing to me that when adding a node to a brush stroke, that the new node, both its handles, and the nearest handles of the nearest node on each side are all represented by small blue circles. Should there not be some differentiation there?
  25. When I'm working with curves I'd like the ability to manipulate just a portion of the curve between node A and node B, without changing the curve in the area preceding the nodes I'm working between. Is there a way to isolate the part of the curve I am manipulating?
