  1. it's a lot easier when there no plans or even ideas to work towards -- bit like a blind emu in a dust storm Sorry; radial blur not done in Affinity -- the Ap whiz kidz need to pull their socks up there just ask if you want to see the original file in full -- yep; made from the one (and only) file What you do to make this better ?
  2. Long one left hand side has been made from 3 stitched file -- flower stem is around 6-8" (150-200mm) long bottom flower is only 25-30 mm (actually a grass flower)Pana Fz300/Affinity .honest comments and questions welcome
  3. thinking outside the boring old normal square Would have been so much easier to edit 2 and 3 in Lr and post as individual photos; but anyone can and does do that. first is a simple composite of the other two Hardest part is the idea. The second hardest part is putting the idea into place using layers/masks. There 3rd hardest part is knowing when is too much, not enough, or exactly around about close to perfect open both files as layers -- flower top layer cut the flower out with selection bush -- slightly smooth/feather selection -- add a layer mask with the marching still active -- all outside the marching ants will disappear. Now move/size the flower to suit --- no law saying you cannot rotate files. You would be surprised how often I do that Photo taken in the late morning/midday sunlight with a little Pana Fz300 your honest thoughts and comments welcome There are always other images not posted here on my Photos by Ian Browne FB page. I'm not into the FB numbers/friends stuff but you are welcome to like the page and ask questions there BTW: I have no problems if someone points out edit mistakes, typing mistakes, other ways to do similar .
  4. Pana Fz300/Affinity More than happy to explain the editing done
  5. nothing special. Lumix Fz300 --- have to love the versatility of that one even if the quality is not up to the Oly Em1 first 2 are from the backyard and the others from a local salty lake Questions welcome. Mostly just fiddling around with the masking brush without using refine Cheers leaf and shadow 3 musketeers escaping Lost ball --- there is a better photo of this waiting to be captured; if I can find it again donkey bone
  6. Bit of bad photography with Panasonic Fz300 while walking a friend's dog Just the two photos taken as I usually do; one focused on the moon and the other on the limbs -- was trying to get the "marshmallow" on the stick but the moon didn't want to be cooked --- maybe another evening Basic editing in Lr5 both files taken to affinity > focused moon enlarged to cover the other > masked in with the sharper limbs > bit of contrast added > border added with 'outline Just an interesting little edit to do and share questions welcome
  7. Just more playing with sliders -- no idea what happened to the tiff with layers so I'm as lost as you to exactly what I did. I might be able to work a bit of it out if need be 2nd is the Oly raw file 3rd is how it looked before I increased the vibrance after seeing the image on FB . The images looks Ok on this page Questions and honest comments welcome
  8. I have always enjoyed wasting time by manually mirroring images as it's always a surprise to see what pops up on the screen; but yesterday, I discover Affinity's mirroring tool. That thing really does do the brain in!! I took the first photo and gave it a spin to end up with the second photo. That was too easy so I decided to add my personal touch with a collage; something I have been making since film days and picture framing. And last one is just another of the first Amazing techknowledge, and so damn fast it's boring LOL Photo taken in 2012 in the hard country around Broken Hill, Australia Honest comments, suggestions and questions welcome. My question: how do I copy and paste 'layer effects' onto other photos in the same collage?
  9. Not sure what I can say apart from the 3rd image is the original Oly raw file --- and the flower is in bird bath Questions, honest comments and suggestions welcome
  10. 1] affinity advanced edit -- mostly done to see how Affinity can do it better 2] original raw file -- thinking I should go back to this tree when the light is better 3]Lr5 basic edit -- would have happy enough with this a few years ago. Now have too much spare time questions and honest comments welcome
  11. Filling in time -- how and why questions welcome 3rd pic is the starting point
  12. just some more mirroring magic -- I'm still fascinated by the Affinity mirror tool!! Honest comments, suggestion and questions welcome Affinity is becoming my go to editor after Lr5 --- I would find it hard if I lost Lr
  13. More fiddling with Affinity -- pretty well replaced my old Elements 12 Nothing special here; however this tree is part of another "project" I have in mind --- I just need the mind to sort out the project idea so i can do it; well try to do it honest comments and questions welcome
  14. Mirrored in Affinity>liquify used to narrow down the join>borders with mask Honest comments and any questions welcome
  15. two files of long dead timber (trees) top layer mirrored x 2 in Affinity base layer mirrored x 3 (??) stacked in layers black and white adjustment layer added>mask added to show the top layer better added borders for something to do About all I can tell you so questions are welcome The mirror tool is amazing!!
  16. The things that can happen while learning a new program basically mirroring, rotating, and blending layers with masks start to finish in Affinity honest comments/suggestions and questions welcome
  17. I do a lot of these collages and as I learn where this and that is in Affinity; and how that and this works I am being to like it more as I get another non-adobe program out of my head Everything here was done in Affinity --- 2nd file is the Oly raw file with my Lr5 starting point preset added . The log would only be a about 150mm/6 inches thick and couple of mts long questions, comments and suggestions welcome
  18. Had Affinity (trail) for only a few days after getting disillusioned with another program although my old Lr5 is my first go to program for basic edits Although I have a better than average -- whatever average is (??) -- understanding of digital editing; it's always a head full to use a new beast that does mostly the same thing as others but in different ways and with different tool names . Still a lot to take in, find, and work out. This is one the first mostly Affinity edited images I have done . I always find it hard to explain what was done and how it was done apart from saying I use very few preset/actions in my editing . I also believe we should post a before and after edit file and that does give idea to what was done . 2nd is the Oly Em1 raw file How and why questions welcome
  19. Wasting more time on nothing important just to get used to the Affinity way for selections/refine/masking/lots of little adjustment layers with masks Suggestive comments and how and why questions welcome
  20. Hi all, New to AP. Relatively new to serious photography as well, but it has always been a hobby. First of all...big thanks to the Serif team for providing such a professionally crafted app at such an amazing price. Eagerly awaiting what's in store for the future. Anyway, just thought I'll say an introductory Hi with some recent shots RAW developed with AP. Cheers P.S. All criticism, advice and suggestions much welcome and appreciated.
  21. Here is a few of my last walk in my county.
  22. The picture that I captured had a lot of haze and dullness in it. So, I tried to retrieve some of those natural colours back inside AP Sharing the original image and the retouched version. Critics and feedback welcome!!
  23. started off as one butterfly, then it became this. Large Wire. All my posted artwork was created using AD and a MBP's trackpad.
  24. Surprisingly easier than it looks, about 5 minutes per picture in AP Thanks to Erwe for the idea
  25. Hello all I only bought Affinity a few days ago with no prior PS experience so here goes... *fingers crossed* This was taken two summers ago in the German mountains in Bavaria: 1/250 sec. f/10 10 mm ISO 100 Processes: Haze removal Blemish removal to get rid of lens flare Slight highlight and contrast adjustment Unsharp mask Thank you for taking the time to have a look and please let me know what you think :)
