  1. In Photo, I can hold CTRL while clicking on a control point and move only that point without moving the other control point for that node. However, I have not been able to find how to do that in Designer. One would think CTRL would function the same in both programs but in Designer it seems to do nothing. So, the question is how do I limit control point movement to only the selected control point in Designer? Windows 10. Thanks,
  2. Hmm, any idea? - Connect them and you will know! 😄
  3. Did someone figure out that on iPad? On Mac/PC, it's possible when Cmd/Ctrl + left click with node tool in 1.9.
  4. I can't seem to find this anywhere so thought I'd create a new topic. Sorry if I've failed to find it and it is hidden away somewhere.... When aligning nodes in paths together sometimes the size of the node itself is too large for precise node alignment. I know about snapping but would be handy if the node itself and the handles became transparent when dragging or moving with the keys. I know I'd find it handy myself and it's something I've noticed to be an issue while using several times so thought I'd make the suggestion. Great software though and really love using it now I've adjusted from Adobe. Workflow seems to be a little better in Affinity I'd say and am recommending to all designers I know.
  5. This is weird: One of the most common tasks for me in Affinity Designer (IPad pro) is to use the Vector Crop tool to remove unwanted parts of an image, and at first this only crops to the shape of a square or rectangle so you wouldn’t use it to crop a complex shape.... BUT it creates a mask in your layers tab so you should be able to then manipulate that mask’s nodes/curves just like any other vector right? kind of. Yes. If you know the secret. At first you won’t be able to edit the points or lines in the Vector Crop mask. But I discovered that if you select the Corner Tool, and then round any corner of the mask (And then un-round it again because you likely weren’t wanting to round the corner), suddenly the mask’s points become editable like any other vector shape. I do this dozens of times per session. Why?! Why should I be conducting this random and oblique method just to edit my vector crop mask? Haha. Please fix this! -Noydis
  6. Hi, Is there a way to get the exact measurement distance between two nodes on the object in Affinity Designer? Not width not height. In this example the triangle have a rotation. attached the capture. Regards.
  7. Hi all, I´m working on a laser engraving design.. obviously and its fun! But I have a big problem.. It´s basically two layers now, one "outline" and one background" First I made the outline design with all the shadowing and expanded the strokes and used "add" to add them all together as one curve. Then I made the background All outside the outline but I made it a little bigger so I could have curves to fit exactly to the outline wnen using the subtract button. But when I use subtract it creates insane lots of unnessesary nodes (See screenshots) Is there any settings or reason why it makes so many nodes? It would take forever to try to clean up all this, as the laser engraver will go a little mental with all these nodes. I´m using a Mac Catalina 10.15.6 and Affinity Designer 1.8.6 Any help or tips would be very welcome 🙂
  8. Illustrator have this feature when you have two open vectors you can make them one by joining their nodes.
  9. I’ve searched around for this. If anyone can point me to where it is, I’d be grateful. I found a topic discussing node manipulation releases for version 1.7, but couldn’t view the video linked to. Is this possible in Designer (iPad)? Hopefully the illustration shows what I’m hoping to do. ( I want to rotate the selected nodes around a distant manually placed anchor. ) >>> All suggestions welcome and appreciated. Is there an "Affinity way" I’m missing, because I’m in Illustrator mode? - - - - - - - - - I’m pondering alternative ways of creating a rotation centre / anchor. Like adding another temporary shape. I suspect I’ll end up re-constructing it... and yes, I’m expecting to have to tweak the curves, though I’m hoping they’ll not be far out.
  10. Hi i hoped, todays update fix this but i can’t use the node lasso (two fingers down in nodes to draw around and select nodes). Anybody else here? I added a video. greets w00dst0ck E12048A5-4205-465D-9510-32453C3F7909.MP4
  11. It is well known that nodes can do everything about layers(ui). The layer cannot do some of the node's actions. Nodes are 100% compatible with layers(ui) and channels(ui). Make changes to the existing layer(ui) to make it nodey while maintaining compatibility with the original layer(ui). Adobe PS lacks even a true alpha channel(ui) because of its stale architecture. Nodeized Layer(node-ui) and channel(node-ui), affinity will have far more flexibility than PS. Adobe can never do that because of its stale architecture. This ensures an absolute lead in affinity. This node feature does not require a huge amount of new code, just changes to existing layer(ui). (I know that many(Affinity)programs are backends(Behind) based on nodes., so this is easier to do) It does not require changing the appearance of the existing layer(ui). Just provide an option to enable the advanced 3D multi-layer box node layer(node) channel(node) framework(ui). Reference implementation: https://natrongithub.github.io/ Natron (open source)
  12. 369/5000 I don't know if this option is currently under development, but in my opinion it would be very useful to have a node-based editor as an option to the layer system (Have both options). Because I work with 32 bit exr files to be able to generate multipass compositing and it would be very useful to speed up the workflow without having to copy the same information to other layers. Thank you.
  13. Hi, Is there a way to convert multiple nodes from multiple objects at once (without merging objects)? Even though I'm selecting multiple nodes here, it won't convert unless I select each object separately, then select all nodes from within each object. Not productive at all.
  14. Affinity team, please, put some work into the node welding. I'm seeing this topic keeps coming up and yet years later its generally not working. Two nodes on top of each other, same object, two curves and the nodes won't weld together. Curve direction is an issue since each curve may be in a different direction, this should be fixed at run time when the two nodes are combined. New curve should preserve both sides of the node, so a check if it needs to be cusp, smooth or symmetrical. That's it. I know this is a huge mathematical/coding challenge but your team is challenging big players in the industry (and doing a really good job over all so far) so you have to face this issue at some point and conquer it. This is a very basic need, the fact that it's an issue is a really a bad mark on an incredible piece of software. Please, please, please address this.
  15. hello , does anyone knows how can i decrease the nodes like the following picture ? thanks in advanced
  16. This is probably a simple solution, but I am trying to use the corner tool and having some issues. I know with the large circle nodes on a corner, you just need to transform the node type to a sharp corner to be able to use the corner tool. But what about the small circle node? It doesn't let me use the corner tool on it and I am not sure what to do or if there is a way to change the node type? On the image below, note that there are 2 small cirlce nodes where there should be square nodes on the corners. How can I get these to work with the corner tool?
  17. hello designers , i am a new affinity designer user and i need someone to help me (look to the video) , and i need it to be like this (look to image) thanks Desktop_2020_05.11_-_10_21_12_01.mp4
  18. First of all, I find affinity designer awesome and I cannot wait to be able to completely switch from the bloated, overprice 'mud brick' rental packages. However for this to happen, I would need to have better vector graph alignment tools. In particular, I would need to be able to select a 'key object' that stays put while the other objects are aligned relative to the key object. Also, it would be great if one could select multiple nodes (inkl. a key node) and align them. The snapping function works great but sometimes it is just not enough... Anything like this planned anytime soon? Thanks Lars
  19. When I create a path using the Affinity Designer pen tool, some of the nodes are square, and some are round; some nodes include dots, and some are empty. I haven't been able to find an explanation of this in the help files.
  20. >Improved the reliability of Boolean Geometry operations What has improved? It still creates countless of unnecessary nodes. This is a big problem...
  21. Hi guys. Bit of noob here. I created some Art text which contains an embedded vector graphic as a fill. When I convert to curves my embedded graphic turns black. How do I convert the text into an editable curve that I can manipulate without losing the embedded graphic? Apologies if I’m not using the correct terminology. I’ve attached a before and after shot.
  22. I am mainly illustrating origami diagrams, a relatively geometric discipline. A common operation is to fold the paper, or a flap, into half. This translates into dividing an edge (a straight line between two nodes) by adding a new node between the end point nodes of the edge. Could we get a feature in AD (iPad) supporting this? Could be: Select a segment (an edge). Press Add point (new operation, places the new point in the middle). This is how InkScape does it. Oe better: Select n nodes. Press Distribute (new operation). This way might be more in line with the iPad AD way, and much more general. Please note I am not asking how to construct the midpoint of an edge and place a node there. I know how to do this, several ways. I am asking for an operation that directly supports something I do often, and which might be of general interest. There is some partial support when the edges are vertical or horizontal (when holding one finger down while dragging the node with the pen), but not for anything else. My apologies if I have overlooked an existing operation on iPad AD.
  23. I discovered this while trying to align individual nodes on multiple paths today. The simplest case to reproduce is as follows: Draw 3 overlapping paths with three 'sharp' nodes each: Start, (approx) middle and end. Using the Node tool, select the middle nodes of each path Choose Align Horizontally: Center and Align Vertically: Center Observe the center points. Depending on the starting positions of the nodes, they may now be curved instead of sharp, and oddly curved when viewed up close. In this case, I would expect the nodes to stay the same type (sharp to stay sharp, curved to stay curved). The strange curved behaviour seen in panel 3 attached seems especially wrong though, and currently means I can't use the align tool for this job. Let me know if I can provide any more info. Thanks!
  24. HI, I'm trying to join to separate curves by overlapping two of their end-points / end nodes, and snapping them onto of each other, then applying the Join Curves command. It appears to work, however, once I attempt to move the node, I notice AD kept both nodes and simply connected them with a line. I can see this being useful, but more useful for the type of work I do is to have the software convert those 2 nodes into one node. Is this a bug or a different way to do it? If so, can you implement the method I just described? Thanks guys! AD ROCKS!!!
  25. Hi Team, I also use AD to draft clothing patterns and other work where measurement is of supreme importance and work has to be precise. Features that will help with this are missing in AD. I'm sure you are adding and will keep adding features; I would realllllly appreciate it if you could bring these features to AD soon. I'm dependent on it to use them for my work and it's absolutely necessary. Following are some scenarios and features that I think will help; 1) Using pen tool, when I click a point and move my mouse/cursor etc, I want to know the measurement of how far I'm going; so I'll know when to stop and click my next point. Similar to how some of the dynamic guides work. 2) When I select a series of nodes on a path, I want to know the length of that curve or line. Without these two, for me it's not efficient to work in AD and is too time consuming to get the results I want..Hope to see these in AD updates soon..Thank you very much!
