  1. Hello, I'm a figure drawing artist and I have been using Adobe Illustrator to draw quick figure sketches for a number of years. Key to this process is the ability to direct the pencil tool to not select each new line I draw, so I can sketch simple lines quickly without the distraction of anchor points. I haven't been able to find the Affinity Designer equivalent that would allow me to draw with the pencil tool without seeing the Nodes. Is there a toggle that allows this? I've attached to this post a short clip illustrating what I'm talking about. On the right, I have an Illustrator window, with its pencil tool set to not select new lines. I can draw with no problems. On the left, Affinity Designer's pencil tool keeps lines selected, with nodes being a visual distraction as well as editing lines when I'm drawing too close to the last line I drew instead of making a new line. I want to be clear, drawing in the Pixel persona is not the solution I'm looking for. I'd like my lines to remain vector and editable after drawing, and to be able to do this from the Designer persona. Is this currently possible?
  2. Good day! If you would like to copy a part of any vectorshape, now you have to (1) copy the path, (2) select 2 nodes seperately, (3) break them, (4) ungroup the object, (5) delete the part you don't need. (6) break and delete node, if open path is required OR (1) copy the path, (2) draw a path on top of it that includes the area you'd like to keep, (3) mark the two objects, (4) use intersect-tool, (5) break and delete node, if open path is required I would very much like to simply (1) SELECT the part of a curve I want and then press (2) COPY+PASTE to paste the selection. Thank you for considering!
  3. Hi, Is there an easy way to reset all of the nodes in the 1st photo so that this group of letters (curves) will collectively just have the basic corner nodes around the perimeter of the shape as a whole without rasterising? (as in 2nd photo). I would then like to be able to manipulate the group as a whole by adding in new nodes to the outside of the group. Or is the best way to do this using the Warp Group tools? Thank you, Jack
  4. It would be beneficial / useful if a node could be moved (slide) along the path of a curve. This feature is available on Adobe Illustrator and I have used it often. I really miss this feature in Affinity Design (iPad). Thanks for your consideration of adding this feature.
  5. I have an open curve shape. The path tries to snap and autoclose the curve when I move the end node near the start point (red node). How can I prevent / toggle this autoclose or maybe the snapping ?
  6. Hello! Could it be possible to transform only the selected nodes with this transform/bounding box? Selecting nodes and switching to the Move tool only displays a bbox for the whole object, not the selection. Thanks! Best regards Eugen
  7. Hey guys I just recently made the switch from Adobe ecosystem to Affinity Designer & Photo because i'm not trying to shell out $600 a year for the rest of my life. I'm getting myself adjusted with Designer right now, but i hit a snag. I can't seem to Add/Remove nodes to existing paths like you could in Illustrator. I've tried searching in Help, but nothing comes up. Is this feature not currently available in Designer? If that's the case, then when can we expect this option in a future update? I only ask because it's something I use often. Thanks in advance for your help and time.
  8. Version: Affinity Designer 2 SO: Windows 11 Device: Lenovo Yoga 7i gen 7 Reproducing the bug: 1. Create new file 2. Use the pen tool and create a trace 3. Use the nodes tool and try to move the controllers using a physical pen To give more details, i'm using the lenovo e-color pen. 1739073839_AffinityDesigner22023-04-2117-07-33.mp4
  9. I haven't used Designer in a long time but it seems like it had some modifier button that let you change adjust a point after you laid it down? I might have been another drawing tool that did that but it has been such a long time since I needed to draw vector graphics that my memory is hazy. This is a fairly basic function but I didn't come across it when I was going through the Designer book recently (which is several years old.) Am I right to think that feature was available in Designer? I mostly use Affinity Photo.
  10. Hi there, is there any option to create /change a smoothing paths from countless nodes? i have a big puzzle put together to one object and thousands of nodes. I would like to reduce them. Convert: "smooth" does not work, may be because it's an "union object"
  11. To vectorize simple designs of geometric figures, as well as manually recalcrating them on other levels with the pen tool, I would like to ask if designer has a different and faster automated function of car vectorization, where however the vector knots that has created are visible. Thank you.
  12. Hi there, I'm new to the forum and hope that everyone is doing well. I have a question in regards to dynamic guides in Affinity Designer. As I looked around on YouTube searching for a guide on how to create vector brushes in Affinity Designer I came across the following tutorial: After a straight line is created with the pen tool, at the 1:35 mark it shows nodes being added with the node tool and you can see pixel measurement displayed of how far apart consecutive new node is from the existing nodes. I'm using the latest version of Affinity Designer for Windows and snapping is working but no measurement gets displayed. Only when I place the nodes on the line first, then select one with the node tool and drag any of them on the line does the measurement display. But according to the video this should also happen when you just hover the mouse over the line with the node tool selected prior to placing a node. What am I missing? Thanks in advance, Tom
  13. In the Vector brush, I can delete segments of the stroke by holding Ctrl, however, if I select a bunch of nodes, I can't delete them using the delete key. 2022-10-02 11-37-53.mp4 Steps to reproduce 1. Go to the brush tool and create a random doodle. 2. Hold the Ctrl key and click drag to select multiple nodes. 3. Hit the delete key and notice that nothing happens. This is on Windows 10, Affinity Designer 10.5.1342
  14. Hey there, sometimes when I want to adjust many node corners (the radius of curved corners in my cases) at the same time AD tends to freeze for a few minutes before it has been able to make all changes. Is this normal behaviour? The strange thing is that it only occurs sometimes in some files. It also seems to happen more likely the longer I am working continuously on a file. Anybody else having this sort of issues? Chris
  15. How do I do this again? I cannot replicate it. All I can do is CTRL Z & CTRL Y to see that it can be done. AligningToStroke.mp4
  16. Hi, very new to using any kind of software like this so bare with me if this is obvious. When I go to to use a brush or pencil tool to draw, as soon as I release the line it automatically brings up the nodes to manipulate the line. This is great but I don't want to have to hit my deselect hotkey every time I draw a line. I want to be able to see what it looks like clearly as and after I'm done drawing it; not the bright blue node line immediately following it. Is there a way to disable this? Many of the people in affinity's creative sessions videos don't seem to have this happen
  17. Hello Serif I've been using Affinity Designer for some time now, and have missed this quite intensely along the way, so: I now work on both macOS and Windows with a mouse mostly, but also with an Apple Magic Trackpad 2. It is extremely efficiently stored in my muscle memory, so I work lightning fast with my right hand on the mouse/trackpad and my left on the keyboard for shortcuts. I work quite a lot and often adjusting a lot, lot of notes, thousands of clicks every day for periods. I change node type many times, and I miss a lightning fast way to switch between node types with a tap on the keyboard. Just one. You can do that in Coreldraw for example (and Vectorstyler). Today on macOS and Windows there are different and not as easy shortcuts for the same with mouse and keyboard in combination, but I miss that it is configurable, so you can also assign a key or a key combination for that matter. And especially just one key as a shortcut would make that workflow very easy. So in short, I suggest: You add the ability to assign a custom keyboard shortcut to sharp, smooth and smart node. That the option also can be just one key, e.g. S for sharp, O for smooth and A for smart (just example for illustration notwithstanding that they may be used already) That in the pen tool you can ALSO use them, so the last created node can be adjusted to sharp or smooth e.g.
  18. Often times, I find myself wanting to join curves when I have the move tool active. I select a the curves I want to join and, when it didn't join them, I come to realise I need to switch to the node tool, hit the hotkey and switch back to the move tool. The workflow would be a lot cleaner if you could also join curves from within the move tool.
  19. I may have missed this one, but I am kinda surprised that there isn't an option to select a keyboard shortcut to convert node type. Any chance that could be added? maybe Shift+A since it currently doesn't do anything? Thanks.
  20. [Designer] Hi, Is there another way to convert nodes, other than going to the Pen or Node Tool's Contextual (horizontal) Toolbar, and pressing buttons? Like, shortcuts for: Convert to Sharp or Smooth node? Or Reverse Curve? I already have keyboard shortcuts for Close and Break Curve – whose toolbar buttons are right beside the Convert ones. But those are the only Pen or Node Tool shortcuts I could find in the Prefs. Two related things I would love: - A way to 'pull' Control Handles out of a sharp node (or pop them back in to make a sharp point), via some modifier key(s) with the node tool. (Like: after-the-fact editing of a path, not while drawing it.) and - When you're manipulating one of a node's Control Handles, for a certain modifier key(s) to cause its opposing handle do the exact same thing – i.e., stay in perfect symmetry/mirror image. Including, on a non-smooth node, the control handle angle. That would be _so_ handy! (It's available with 3rd party Illustrator plugins) Thanks for your attention! - pbass
  21. So I was searching around for any and every video on YouTube to give me a better understanding of how to use the pen/node tool. I stumbled across a video on YT: "AFFINITY DESIGNER CURVES FROM SINGLE STROKE. This tutorial helped me solve one issue (finding the easiest way to trace an image with a lot of curvy lines BUT with each curve flowing smoothly together from one to the next). I had created a logo (i can't show the whole logo) but as you can see some of the curves i created originally APPEARED smooth when i zoomed in close but some noticeable errors when i zoomed out/away from it. Once I zoomed out the logo had these subtle curves that made the logo look like it was starting to form corners. As I followed the tutorial, I got to where I was only using the SMART MODE tool, with these options selected: - ALIGN TO NODES OF SELECTED CURVES - SNAP TO GEOMETRY OF SELECTED CURVES - ALIGN HANDLE POSITIONS USING SNAPPING OPTIONS - MOVE BY WHOLE PIXELS - SNAPPING while I was working through, I was going by what I would always hear from the pros and amateurs "move the node handles around until you get as close as you can to the images/shapes. so that's what I did! Still wasn't perfect though. A-HA!!! THERES A PATTERN ("not sure if I'm just late to the party lol") Once you put your first node, you get the CURVE option after putting the second node which is your first line. You then go and make that line fit as perfect to the curve as you can which is the easy part. Then comes the hard part as soon as you add a 3rd node and however many more you want, trying to make that second curve fit PERFECTLY with the first curve usually doesn't match the way you want it to because at the same time you're also trying to make it fit with the 4th node. It then becomes this tug of war between the nodes LOL. node A. node B. = line/curve a-b node B. node C. = line/curve b-c node C. node D. = line/curve c-d node D. node E. = line/curve d-e **USING THE SHIFT KEY EVERYTIME (USUALLY)** **USING THE SHIFT KEY EVERYTIME (USUALLY)** **USING THE SHIFT KEY EVERYTIME (USUALLY)** Once you have the first curve (line/curve a-b) set to your liking , before adjusting the second curve (line/curve b-c) YOU WANT TO SELECT THE NODE (node C.) AND USE THE HANDLES ON IT TO START BUILDING THE END OF THE SECOND CURVE (line/curve b-c)...…..THENNNNNNN...…GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS NODE (node B.) AND ADJUST THAT ONE TO MAKE THE SECOND CURVE (line/curve b-c) FIT and FLOW SMOOTHLY WITH THE FIRST CURVE (line/curve a-b). so therefore once you move onto the third curve (line/curve c-d) start by adjusting the handles of node D. FIRST then jump back to ex. node A. node B. node C. node D. node E. etc. line/curve a-b, line/curve b-c, line/curve c-d, line/curve d-e after the curve between node A. & node B. has been made (line/curve a-b), jump to node C. and using the handles to adjust the curve (line/curve b-c) to your liking THEN start adjusting the handles on node B. creating line/curve b-c which flows perfectly with the previous curve line/curve a-b AFD - nodes.mp4 HOPEFULLY I HELPED SOMEONE!
  22. Is there a way to maintain line integrity when removing nodes in Affinity Designer? Being a Corel Draw user, I've always appreciated the way that Corel will try to maintain the flow of a line when a node is removed. It's handy for smoothing curves and areas where shapes have been joined together. Affinity Designer and Illustrator tend to really lose the shape when a node is removed so I'm always having to manually re-align the curve. Affinity Designer's node editing tools seem pretty basic when compared to Corel Draw and it's not even a recent version of Corel that I'm comparing to. The curve smoothing button has a mind of it's own, that's useless too. I've included some examples to illustrate. If anybody could recommend a solution, I'd be most grateful.
  23. Hi! When I'm working on UI, I want to quickly copy and paste or replace selected nodes inside the same shape or another shape. I know I can do it with a compound object but it's a long process when you just want to isolate a group of nodes and turn them into a new curves path or paste/replace on another.
  24. As you can see in the attached image I am trying to figure out how to keep the arc of a shape of line when deleting nodes. On the left is the Corel Draw X8 example and on the right is the Affinity Design example. Is this possible? Corel Draw can do. Is there a way to do this in AD? Is there some type of setting that can be turned off or on? Please help. Thank you.
  25. In illustrator owe have the scale tool to push two anchor points or nodes towards or away from each other, symmetrical and in equal amount, in Inkscape it's possible too. In Affinity Designer it seems to be an eyballing thing and I'm not an eyballing person. Is there a simple way around this? I tried with shift and alt and ctrl and don't know what else but none of these works. I'm aware of the point transform but unless it has some hidden functions I'm not aware off, it can not do the job. Edit: found it finally, it is not point transform, for whatever reason I thought it is. it's the transform option (and hold CTRL). image n°3
