  1. For this years cards I wanted to keep it simple and almost in the naive style and I went down the family value road as a nod to my second grandkid. They are set up as slightly overformat in A4, as RGB and impositioned as work and tumble, page 1 and 4 and 2 and 3 are imported to masterpages in QuarkXpress with each card being personalized in the worksheet so I won´t bore you with that part. Twas fun. Now let´s see yours!
  2. If you so choose you can find out how by following this link to learn of the indirect way to do it. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/128285-colour-fonts-and-affinity-products/ William
  3. Just a silly experiment which I was playing around with after half-remembering something I saw on a TV show. Nothing special, just thought some people might like to see it, and maybe it will motivate someone into making something better. (All the Live Filters I used on this really hammered my machine – poor little thing.) Note: In case anyone is interested, the globe was originally monochrome and the background was a full-colour photo, the rest was created in either Photo or Designer.
  4. 20th of Februar 1962 John Glenn became the first American to orbit the earth in Friendship 7, for a total of three orbits... Two years after I was launched, now I feel old. 2D vector art in Affinity Designer with a heavy duty perlin noise background in Affinity Photo.
  5. Second full issue of Skin Art done COMPLETELY with Affinity Publisher, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Designer. This issue went smoother than the last and part of that is due to converting my library of Postscript fonts to Open Type (I posted earlier this year about problems with fonts in Photo and Designer and a bit in Publisher ( https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/125130-strange-text-box-problem/&tab=comments#comment-688016 ). Happy to say that the proofing process with the printer went even quicker with a lot less technical issues. For those that are interested, it's available for order online and will be available in-stores on November 10th. Thanks again to Serif for giving me an excellent and professional alternative to adobe. Never going back.
  6. Journey to the edge of space. Considering it was a design by Walter Dornberger in the 40ties the X15 holds the speed record of Mach 6.1, a record that still stands today. Aircraft done in Affinity Designer and background with Affinity Photo and lots of gradients and blends, texture brushes, cloud brushes and lots of sweet, sweet perlin noise
  7. I've been using the Affinity programs for a while now and have just posted my collection to my website, below is a few of the things I have created Check out my website for more: https://craighogben.co.uk/made-in-affinity/ will keep adding more!
  8. Time for something spacey again, I call this: "The launch" a young civilization setting out into the unknown for the first time.
  9. Red Bull not only have a pristine P38, they have, among other fantastic aircraft, a very shineeee Vought F4U Corsair. Somehow I just love the Corsair. Can you imagine in the board room of Voght....: "Hi guys, I have this big-assed engine on mah truck.... make it fly!" "Ok boss, what kind of armament do you require?" "Yes!" Done in Designer and finished up in Photo, the clouds are a mix of cloudbrushes and perlin noise, all hail the perlin noise.
  10. Redbull´s magnificent Lockheed P38 Lightning was at the Hahnweide airshow, way back in happier pre-corvid times. I took a picture with the intention to draw her at some point, however during the research I found that Redbull´s website had professional pictures, much better than those out of my crappy cellphone camera. Free to download, so I used one of theirs.
  11. Feeling a tad Bladerunnerish at the moment and at the same time I have waaaaay too much time on my hands.
  12. Pretty pleased with this one. I really like photos that incorporate vector shapes / line work, so wanted to have a stab at my own. The space / window section was done in Designer, than that file was placed into the larger picture in Photo with some further work done. I used a lot of tricks I learned from the lockdown Affinity sessions (isometric grids, using textures as overlays, various colour adjustments, etc.), so many thanks for those! 🙂
  13. hello, here is my "Serie about Geometric Birds". They are for sale - just in case - just let me know. Thanks
  14. I've been playing around with song lyric artwork, and as it's the anniversary of the White Pony album I thought I'd do one for that. The lyrics are repeated (IIRC the text box is filled with the album lyrics 3 times) because to fill the logo would've required to blow up the lyrics a fair bit, which meant the logo didn't have very good definition. As a heads up, the lyrics do contain swear words. (I wouldn't have thought that counts as controversial, but happy to redo the post as just as link if it is). Logo and text and was done in Designer, background photo was edited in Photo. Obviously all kudos to the band for the pony logo and lyrics, I just did this a bit of fun fanboy art.
  15. I'm curious if anyone else out there is using Affinity products for making maps? These days , probably >95% of cartographers make their maps almost entirely within GIS software, but I was always frustrated by the limited options and lack of precision for controlling stylistic elements on maps in those software suites (both QGIS and ArcGIS), so I figured why not outsource the styling to Affinity products For those unfamiliar, mapmaking is not unlike standard graphic design. You have a document comprised of a bunch of different layers, some of which can be vector (like road lines, point data, etc.) and some of which can be raster (like elevation maps, aerial imagery, etc.). The only real difference is they are all encoded with spatial information. So what I started doing is using the GIS software just to compile and size (spatially aware trim/crop) all my different layers of geographic data, and then exporting a bunch of identically-sized layers that I then reassemble in AD / AP (i.e export a PDF of *just* the road lines, export another PDF of *just* the water body polygons, export a PNG of *just* the aerial imagery, etc.). As long as I maintain identical pixel dimensions for the exported raster layers, and identical aspect ratios for the vector layers, maintaining the appropriate map scale / size and reassembling the layers in AD/AP is trivial. Once I have all the data in AD/AP, I can take advantage of those graphic design features that GIS software could never hope to do, like advanced masking and layer blending modes, brush-based editing, pixel-perfect label placement (HUGE), etc. Another great thing is this method gives you ultimate control over design of the map frame and you're not stuck using the preset layouts and scalebars that are baked into GIS software suites. The included example is a map I made for my mother last Christmas of the area where her ancestors settled 150ish years ago. Its sort of like a modern take on the classic USGS topo map styles from the 50's-80's. (there are two typos I'm aware of, 'prairie' is misspelled in both instances, and 'convenience' is written as 'convenient' in the legend... if you see anymore, let me know!) cheers
  16. Even July is already over (by 10 days at the time of this posting!!!) Check out Julys illustration I continue my year-long need to drawing monsters and merge it with my love of retro games and arcades!! The illustration was made with Affinity Designer + Affinity Photo on the iPad Pro. Check out more illustration: https://bit.ly/36d5NtE Affinity Designer: I started the project in Affinity Designer (on the iPad) where I sketched out the core idea and layout before moving into a vector where I created the monsters, arcade logo, and background neon objects along with the ghost. After this, I moved over to the iMac + Maya where I worked on creating the 3D arcade assets + textures. After this, I moved back into Designer where I placed the 3D model arcades, brick wall texture and work on all the other small vector items. Affinity Photo: Now it's time to move into Photo, where I drag and drop the file from Designer over to Photo (on the iPad Pro) where I start working on raster effects, such as applying some brush texture effects to the vector monster to give some more levels of effects and style. All brushed used in this project is either the default Affinity ones or one from frankentoon. From where I was on adding some 2D shadows with a pixel brush and added in some layer adjustments and layer filters to the image to finish it off. Anyway, I hope you like the image and I hope you all have a great day. Before & After: Close up!!: What do you think? and I hope you are all doing amazing!!!!
  17. Hello! I find my situation ironic, as I dealt with all my US English text being underlined because it wasn't UK English for the longest time, and now that I need UK English checks, it simply won't come up in AP. I am attaching multiple screenshots here, as I'm at my wit's end as to why I cannot get UK English to show up as a spell check option. First, I checked my system languages, realized English (UK) wasn't listed there under 'Preferred languages', added it, and restarted my computer. However, it doesn't matter if I go into the Text Style panel, the AP preferences itself, or the character panel, no where does English (UK) show up as a language option. But it does show up under the Hyphenation panel. My mind is blown. I don't see how it would affect anything, but I added the British keyboard layout to my system preferences, and restarted my computer once again. I'm getting the same results. English (UK) doesn't show up as an option for spelling. There is, however, a en-GB folder in the AP Resources folder. What do I do to get English (UK) to show up as a spellcheck/language option? Do I dare copy the en-GB data file elsewhere, delete it from the AP folder, then drag and drop in an attempt to 'reinstall'? Will this break anything? I cannot think of anything else to do. Help! I am on Mac OS 10.15.5 / AP 1.8.4
  18. I used the new brushes and texture overlays I made to promote my new quick-start kits on my Gumroad store. This was the result! I teach English, and only get to draw in my free time. I'm still working up the courage and energy to do a complete dragon illustration. Will post here when I do! - Cheers!
  19. What to do on a boring rainy weekend? I thought I would try and get some more milage out of the UFO pictured in "Contact" and revisit "Close encounter" by adding oodles of detail to the Conny. The Conny herself is from a picture I took of the Breitling Conny at her base in Basel. I think it turned out well.
  20. Meant to post this for a while. Affinity can do the whole project. Not just images but accurate box design, books, layouts...the whole package. Exporting output across the globe for accurate printing in any size and colour is a must. Everything in this picture was designed and manufactured using Affinity Designer and Photo. It's not just a package...it's a design suite. When a container load of product arrives at your clients warehouse...it better be 100% right. I not only use Affinity...I trust it. Thanks Serif!
  21. Kriegsmarine U-Boats, UFO´s and ice, always a great topic for artwork. This is scratch built in Affinty Design and Affintiy Photo, a lot of late hours and psychedelic stoner music on the tube.
  22. Hello! My name is Mikołaj but you can call me Mik. I've been using affinity software since first release in 2014 for graphic design(any kind of user interface design and visual identity assets). Lately some idea popped in my head – I am using the same tools in the same way all the time, so to prevent some kind of stagnation I want to challenge myself to create different kind of artwork that I usually do. Goal: Creating artwork from scratch in a poster format using every tool that is available in the software. I invite you to enjoy this journey with me. 001
