  1. I want to print 4 pages of A5 on one A4 sheet, so the A4 will be landscape but printed on a printer that prints A4 portrait. The trailing edge needs to be 16mm, the other edges 3mm. Using Facing Pages, Publisher allows me to set the outside margins at 16mm, but I will only want 16mm for the right-hand margin of the right-hand pages. The left-hand margin of left-hand pages needs to be 3mm. Is there a way of doing this? If not, can you please add the facility to the Facing Pages section?
  2. I've been having trouble indenting number lists. However, with perseverance I found a 'text ruler' that does the job perfectly. Just putting this post up to help anyone else who's wondering how to adjust margins, without playing around with the text box. File attached. Don't forget to update the style. Great feature thank you Serif! Number List and Indent.afpub
  3. Hello! No matter what I have selected, the "Align to Option is greyed out. I just want to be able to align to my margins. I'm not seeing any other discourse on here about this problem so maybe it's just me? Thanks!
  4. Here is an example how it it could look like. Its really needed to see what we are exporting and work with. Really needed for 2+ artboards works.
  5. Absolute Newbie here. When the capitol letter "A" begins a sentence and is flush to the left margin, a small part of it exceeds the margin and does not print. Is there a setting to get these letters in line? FYI, I'm using a serif font, Adobe Caslon Pro, at 11 pt.
  6. Affinity Designer Version 1.7.1.1 iPad Pro 12,9 inch first generation, iOS 12.3.1 I added screen recordings for clarity. Problem 1: Margin and bleed not working for artboards Margins and bleed work perfect for documents that do not use artboards, but when I convert it to an artboard using "Insert Artboard" it stops working. Same goes for creating a document and enabling the option "Create Artboard". Bleed still shows, but changing the values for Left, Right, Top or Bottom doesn't change the bleed. When opening the menu again the values are back to what they were before using "Insert Artboard". Margins also don't work, it goes back to Left 0.0 Right 0.0 Top 0.0 and Bottom 0.0. Trying to change this makes it immediately jump back to 0.0. margin_bleed_artboard.MP4 Problem 2: "Check Spelling While Typing" option is always on when loading any document check_spelling_while_typing.MP4 Problem 3: Limited selection of presets for inserting artboards in an open document It looks like the artboard presets of the category "Device". However, the bottom four options are also missing: Kindle Fire HD 7, Kindle Fire HD 8.9, Galaxy S5 and Surface Pro 2. There is an option missing for selecting the category like when creating a new document. It seems that this simply has been overlooked. insert_artboard.MP4
  7. When one tries to adjust the size of the margins and column gutter within the "Guides Manager" window one is capped at 400px. The problem seem to be limited only to that window, as one is able to exceed the limit (at least for the margins) by using the "Document Setup" window instead. OS: Windows 10 Version: Designer 1.8
  8. I'm working on an ~170pg book for an author. I'm new to Affinity Publisher. I auto flowed the word.docx following a YT tutorial. Great, however: Here's my question: I discovered I really need to tweak the margins to take into account headers and footers, pagination, etc. Is there a way to change the margins so I don't have to fix each page individually? I need to be able to see how large the book is in two book sizes as well, (ie 5 x 8 and 6 x 9). I created two master pages, am planning on doing sections and such, heading styles - and I don't want to proceed yet until I know if I have to make separate sizes or whether I can duplicate with different margins.
  9. I'm wanting to set my A4 / A5 (and indeed all) my default margins to 10 mm all round as my work is mainly for laser or photocopier printing. 25/25/25/30 may be OK for book set up or something, but for 32 page A5 mags that only need open end trimming 10/10/10/10 is fine. I started out on PageMaker 3.0 on Mac and taught it for a time on Mac (with plug in hard drives...) and then on PC with PM 3.0 on Windows 3.1. I finished on PM at 7.0, and then taught a colleague how to use PagePlus (without having learned it myself). She has PP X9, but I've got PP8 (on XP), and recently acquired Affinity Pub 1.8.5.703 (or thereabouts...) on Windows 10 and am now getting my head round it. I never found out how to change the default margin on X8, but I cheat by using previous issues as templates. It's still a damn nuisance having to reset when I do single sheet work. I know that margins are only a guide, but they make life so much easier. Back on PM, these defaults could be set. I'd like to change the defaults for text wrap too. (I also acquired Photo, and had Designer on a Win 7 machine but never did much with it. Having the three together side by side is great as I can tidy up the pics sent in before they go to press.)
  10. Why, when creating a new document, is there no 'retrieve margins from printer' option? This means you have to enter spread setup after cresting new, and modify it there, where this option is given. Seems un-necessary to have to do this.
  11. I have been making Greeting Cards in Serif Page Plus for over 15 years. I keep trying to switch to Affinity Publisher, but even creating my own two templates: sidefold and topfold, the margins .5" all around are 1/8" wider on right side and smaller on left. I did change the margins to .6" on one side and .3" on the other so they come out all .5". The page size is 7"x10" which my printer does easily and Affinity seems to agree to but it's just the margins. Problem #2 - The artistic text - which is beautiful - has a white film on the text box. White on white wouldn't show but with Greeting Cards, the text is usually on a nature photo, like the sea or mountains, and it is very obvious. I think (actually hope) both problems are simple glitches that can be corrected? Sister Regina Dierson
  12. Hi, I would like to know how to add cell margins to my text frame in publisher. The text is flush against the bounding box which I find visually annoying and text can be hidden by the arrow or dot on the boundary. Is there a simple way to do this please? Thanks
  13. Guides, margins, and bleeds cannot be set and have display errors on the iPad. They cannot be set when you are using art boards (they jump back to 0), and when you have multiple art boards, the margin shows up in the wrong place. I noticed margin display error it when opening a document I’d created on my Mac - they are right on the Mac, but display wrong on the iPad. I’m using 11” iPad Pro, affinity designer 1.8.4 linking the original thread from the pre-p 1.8 beta archive as these have been issues since 1.7: plus here’s a video of the margin display error RPReplay_Final1598999987.mp4
  14. My wife & I purchased the entire Affinity Suite to save us the headaches we encountered from Word+PDF on KDP/CreateSpace when creating her full-color art tutorial books (sample book here: https://oksanaball.com/books/ or https://amzn.to/2T0Y1Nh ). We liked Affinity Publisher's templates for image layout and placement along with the ability to easily insert automatic fancily formatted image numbers (Word's formatting is impossible for this). These art books are generally laid out as facing pages with text on one side and a bunch various placements of images on the other. We are currently trying to write her next book in AP and are having issue with margins, gutters, and templates. I have configured a facing-page master layout using a large background image across the facing pages and the headers for left and right side pages being different. Then, we apply a single page template to the left or right side depending on if we need a page with text-only, multiple images, "zoomed" images, staggered step images, "tips", etc. Sometimes, the images appear on left, sometimes on right, sometimes on both - thus single page templates are nicer to work with. Where I am running into issues is with the gutters - I need different margins depending on left or right side. I could create two sets of image page templates, but there has to be an easier way that having both "four images, left side" and "four images, right side". I have attached a screen shot from KDP's preview that shows how our one-page template containing four images violates the gutter. Is there a way to create a single-page template which "anchors" itself to the outer margin? I tried creating a slightly narrower "spread" which I hoped I could shift left or right, but that doesn't work for me. I could not seem to find this type of solution in the forums or tutorials and I would love for someone to point me in the right direction. I'm willing to share apub template file example if that helps. Thanks. -j
  15. I'm just setting up a new document that is going to have multiple artboards of the same dimensions but I only can see the document margins displayed for first artboard. Additional artboards don't appear to display them. Is this normal?
  16. Am new to Affinity (brand new, and baby boomer, so you may have to speak slow . Using Publisher, I've created a simple one-page ad, 7.5" x 10"H to print on standard 8.5 x 11 sheet. Outside the margins are overflowing rectangles and other elements that need to be cropped out but need to retain the 1/2" white margin all the way around. Cannot figure this out and have googled best I can. Was told it involved picture frame tool and paste-inside, but...please help. I'm attaching the image so you can see the margins, etc.
  17. Hi. Whenever I create a new document, I define margins in the new document dialog and activate the "include margins" option, but the document is always created with the margins not included. I must go to Document setting and activate it manually again (Curiously, the margins size I defined before are retained, it is only that the margins are not included). Silly bug, not a big nuisance, just to let you know. Have a nice weekend!
  18. I think I may found a bug concerning margins on making a new master page. Please repeat the steps. 1. Make a new master page. While the dialogue prompt comes up specify the following margins (as an example with page/document size of 1080 x 1920) Left: 120 px Right: 120 px Top: 250 px Bottom: 250 px Click OK. You will notice the bug, such that the margin specifications for "Left" and "Top" seems to be switched. To fix this, you'll have to go into Guides and fix the "switch" between "Left" and "Top." Once you press OK, you'll see the intended margins aforementioned. I was able to verify the bug by making another master page and purposely substituting "Top" margin as "Left" and vice versa. Once you OK, you'll see this new, master page looking as correct and intended and going into Guides Manager, you'll see the margins correctly correspond as intended.
  19. 1. Draw a text frame with the Frame Text tool. 2. Type some text into the frame. Make it short enough not to force the line to wrap. 3. With the cursor to the right of the right-most character, press and hold the space bar to insert multiple spaces. Result: Eventually the cursor advances past the right edge of the text frame and keeps heading to the right—until you type a non-space character. Then the line wraps. Not that anyone would likely do this as part of creating a document...but it does seem anomalous. : ) (Hoping the screen-shot upload works this time.)
  20. Hi people, Where does the document paper size come from, when one is setting up a new document? I have an image to help make sense out of my question. I'm trying to set up a pair of 5x7 or A5 images, on a sheet of letter ANSI A paper. This is a very long document that I want to print on both left and right text boxes on both sides of the paper. It's pretty much like a newspaper layout except for the sizes. Would it be better to use the "book" setting? I have attached a screencap of what I see after setting up the document in "new". I don't understand where the dimensions under "custom" came from. They are larger than expected, sometimes much larger. Any suggestions and clarification welcome! James
  21. I have tried everything i have found to make my margins come back. I have checked and unchecked and rechecked again the Show Margins command. Margins were there when I first opened the document this morning. Then suddenly they disappeared. Nothing I have found seems to answer the question. In fact, the only show command that seems to work is Show Grid. When I double or triple click in a text box nothing happens until i toggle preview mode. What have I done wrong? Help!
  22. I am attempting to adjust a document from single to facing pages. Currently, the document uses a single master page. However, once I switch the document and the master page from single to facing, I am finding a series of issues: Each spread now contains two copies of the master page The master spread continues to behave like a single page instead of two facing pages The margins on the master spread act as if the spread is a single page, without an inner margin Columns layout treat the whole spread as a single page I am using Affinity Publisher 1.7.1.404 on Windows in the office (HOK)
  23. Is there any way of reproducing the layout of an artboard so that I can produce a 24 page document without having to set up the margins and guides on each artboard?
  24. Vertical Guides are being created in other artboards,... and i can't move them. Can't change position value. This is a recorrent bug in other tools envolving guides, column, margins.
