Hello, Affinity Photo is awfully lagging and slow on my Macbook Pro. It wasn't awfully lagging and slow before. But now since I have updated to MacOS Sonoma version 14.0, it's lagging and slower than usual. What should I do to make it faster and not lag? Also, I have attached a photo so you can see my performance settings.

I'd like to move the first steps in the digital arts world as a hobby. I tried with my current macBook Pro and a Wacom tablet and found the lag too bad to enjoy drawing (it's a mid-2015 4-core i7 with 16GB RAM and only the integrated Intel Iris Pro GPU) As I'm looking for an upgrade I'm wondering what's the minimum that could give me a low-latency drawing experience. I know that brushes can be very computationally expensive if one wants to simulate liquid colours dripping and blending with other layers and whatnot. So let's say I'm going to stick to pencil-like or fairly simple brushes. Would a macBook Pro 2018 i7-6core, 16GB RAM, and a Radeon Pro 555X 4GB be enough? I'm using Affinity Designer V2.

Hello, I need help with the performance settings on Affinity Photo. What would be the best performance settings? Like the ram and stuff like that. I have MacOS Monterey Version 12.3.1. Can anyone help me?

I regularly create PDFs for my clients to proof projects. Most will mark up the PDF, send it back, and I review their edits in the Comments tab. Since I recently purchased a new Apple Powerbook with the Apple silicon, my clients can no longer use the markup feature in Adobe Acrobat. Specifically any of the highlight, underline, or strike out options. I'm also concerned that Publisher will not create a properly formatted PDF when it comes time to send a file to the print vendor. In looking new PDFs versus old ones I've exported from Publisher, I see that the encoding software is now listed as "PDFlib+PDI 9.1.2p1-i (generic)", while in the older, pre-M1 exports, its listed as "PDFlib+PDI 9.1.2p1-i (OS X/macOS)". I assume this may be a compatibility issue with Acrobat. I saw this article from back in the Fall: Acrobat M1 Compatibility . Is there a fix or a workaround for this issue?

Mac Catalina 10.15.1 (19B88) on MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019), 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 A .jpg shot some years ago didn't display although it "opens" and I can see the thumbnail in the Navigator. It displayed fine when I opened it in Designer, so I resaved it in that and then it displayed in Photo. Lynn Hansen

Hi, I first reported this bug 9 months ago. I was told by Affinity that this was a specific issue with 2017 MBP, the Mojave update, and the Metal Accelerator. Tried a number of fixes, and was eventually advised by Affinity to turn off Metal in Preferences, not to use Parallel Processing, and that the bug would be addressed "shortly" in the upcoming 1.7 release. I have avoided using Photo since, there were other issues with Metal. Today I downloaded the 1.7 update to find the same issue. What the hell are you guys playing at? Why was this issue not addressed? I am totally fed up with the standard of response, and having to wait this long, finding that you ave not addressed this bug. You were aware as others have reported the same issue! I feel that this is either that Affinity are not interested in the small number of users who own 2017 MBPs with Mojave, and just do not care.

Hi, I have just tried Affinity Photo and am quite impressed, it seems much easier than photoshop. My question is: do I need multiple purchases or will one purchase of Affinity do all my devices? Regards JJPKB

First I want to say that you guys are literally the only ones who have made the Touch Bar on the MacBook Pro useful. Seriously, it's great execution on having appropriate adjustments and functions on the bar. Most app devs treat the bar like an after-thought and, if implemented appropriately (which it almost never is), it's quite useful. Something I'd love to see implemented is a more robust Touch Bar for the character menu. Currently there are only the three bold, italic, and underline options, all of which often aren't applicable for most fonts. I can imagine having things like tracking, leading, and font size dials available, perhaps with a few options like all-caps or small-caps. And while I wouldn't want the actual font-picker menu on the touch bar (way too much swiping), having a picker for font variations within a family would certainly be valuable (slightly less swiping). I can even imagine seeing ligature or Open-Type variants pop up when highlighting specific characters.

I am using both Designer and Photo on my MacBook Pro. I am wondering if owners of the software can install them on more than one computer? Essentially to use as a backup when out of the office and on the road. I also have a MacMini mid-2010. I would be using it either on one or the other computer, but not at the same time. Thanks in advance. Scott Hughes
