  1. Hi, very new to using any kind of software like this so bare with me if this is obvious. When I go to to use a brush or pencil tool to draw, as soon as I release the line it automatically brings up the nodes to manipulate the line. This is great but I don't want to have to hit my deselect hotkey every time I draw a line. I want to be able to see what it looks like clearly as and after I'm done drawing it; not the bright blue node line immediately following it. Is there a way to disable this? Many of the people in affinity's creative sessions videos don't seem to have this happen
  2. Everytime i create more than one artboard the guide lines starting point begins from the first artboard, and as i edit the location i have to compensate the pixel distance even if i type the numbers.. and sometimes it gets back to zero, i know i must be doing somenthing worng.. Or it supposed to work this way? FullSizeRender.MOV
  3. I've searched for other forum posts first but couldn't find anything so I've listed it here. I'd like to be able to split any stroke of any shape into a specified number of anchor points. In addition, some manipulation of this would be useful such as having different gaps between certain anchor points. Thank you!
  4. I'm new to Designer having come from using Illustrator. I'm using Designer to produce drawings to be cut using a laser cutter. In order to cut the line width has to be .001 inches. I produced a drawing consisting of a number of curves and lines joined into one path. Then I drew another straight line and noticed that the path that says it has a stroke with of .001" is visibly wider than the straight line which also says it has a stroke width of .001". I had trouble during my last laser cutter session with some of my lines cutting and some not cutting even though they all claimed to be .001" thick. What am I doing wrong?
  5. Inspired by this Photoshop-tutorial I found the following workflow for what I call „Pseudo Halftones“. Not really Halftones, but a nice raster effect, I think. Maybe someone likes it too. 1. At first I created a pattern for the halftone raster. It is only a radial gradient from opaque black in the center of a square document, to transparent black (0%) on the edge of the document. Then I duplicated the layer four times and placed each duplicate on the four corners of the document. Finally I exported the document (you find the result attached to this thread and also some line patterns). 2. Then I created a New Round Brush. I opened the panel for the Brush Settings and adjusted the brush „Size“ under „General“ and the „Size Jitter“ under „Dynamics“. Under „Texture“ I added my pattern as „Base Texture“. You can adjust its size with the „Scale“ slider, if necessary. The „Mode“ should be set to „Final“ (you find the resulting brushes as attachments to this thread). 3. I loaded an image into Photo. Then I clicked „Add Pixel Layer“ on the bottom right of the „Layers“ panel and filled the layer with white. Then I applied the blend mode "Colour Dodge" to the white layer. After that, I painted with my new brush on that white layer. The result is nearly the halftone effect we wanted. But we should finish with adjusting the „Brightness and Contrast“ (or „Levels“ or „Curves“, if you like), to get clearer and sharper dots. So I dragged the „Brightness“ slider to the left and the „Contrast“ to the right, to get more contrast. Check it out to find the values you like. This contrast adjustment will only work if the layer has a white background. That is why I filled it. Pseudo-Halftone-Dots. Vertical lines. Dots and diagonal lines in combination. With a grungy texture from Texture Labs. patterns.zip Halftones.afbrushes
  6. I've been using Affinity designer to make maps for a novel I'm working on. As one would imagine, it is quite time-consuming to draw a properly jagged coastline. What would make easier is if you could draw fractal lines, curves, and shapes like in ProFantasy's app Campaign Cartographer 3. I have attached a mock-up of some examples of what I have in mind for Affinity Designer's equivalent. Firstly, unlike CC3, AD's bézier handles and corner tool would make fractal curves and corners far more versatile. As with the corner tool, fractal lines could be "baked" for more precise node editing. The actual jaggedness of the fractal could be adjusted for softer or harsher coasts depending on the effect one is looking for, and the line could also be smooth but wavy, which would be useful for drawing rivers. I'm sure that there would be many uses for this feature outside of mapmaking, and it would certainly make my job quite a bit easier as CC3's export functionality leaves a great deal to be desired. If fractals were added to Affinity Designer's already astounding features, it would save a huge amount of time when trying to make jagged shapes.
  7. Hello, 90% of the time when I use the vector brush in Affinity Designer with a drawing tablet and pressure control, my line ends look extremely ugly: This is caused by extremely low pressure values that are applied to the beginning and end of the line: I have already tried to flatten the pressure curve of the brush, but had no success with that: Does anyone have an idea how to fix my problem? Thanks a lot for your help!
  8. Hello, dear developers. First of all - I like your program, it is more comfortable than illustrator or Corel draw. But thing is - Designer doesn't have the required functionality to normally offset and expand strokes, while illustrator and Corel draw do. I wanted to design a logo with "luminescence" effect - like soft glow - by outlining, offsetting and expanding strokes. With illustrator I could do it, while in Affinity Designer I can't. I tried "outline" effects, but then I discovered that I just can't expand it. I probably could create something "resembling" to desirable effect, but that is not the solution. I didn't`t notice this instruments in 1.7 either. So please - add this functionality to 1.7 or 1.8 update - while it`s a small detail, but for some projects its crucial. And I`m not the only one asking about this - there are some related topics on this forum asking about the same. Aaaaaand - do something with your "expanding stroke" - it`s horrible! Although a bit better in 1.7 update, but still not appropriate! Many programs (illustrator, Inkscape, Corel Draw, even Sketch!) can do this much better! I`m using Affinity Designer 1.6.5 on Mac OS Mojave (also used on Sierra). Thanks for your work and cannot wait to see this functionality in update
  9. First of all I want to say hi and thanks to each one of you who decided to waste 2 minutes of their time to read my thread and possible helping me out. As the title states the issue I have a problem in Affinity Photo with the brushes. I'll provide a couple screenshots below, so you can get the idea of what I'm talking about. Pretty sure this isn't as rera as I think it is but I literally did not find any information that could help me out on google, here on the forum, reddit and different sites including youtube videos. I bought the program around 2 days ago since I bought a drawing tablet mainly because I decided to try out with the digital art. Anyway... I'm trying to make some twitch icons, sub badges, logos etc. or even discord emojis but the low resolution of the brushes is killing me. Things I already tried: 1. I've contacted the support and still waiting for an answer. 2. I've tried different brushes ( big - small - meduim ) size and they're all the same. 3. Tried to play with the brush settings and that didn't help either. 4. Tried to play with the flow and hardness of the brush and nothing.... 5. A milion times I made sure that I'm using the "Paint Brush Tool" and not something else. 6. Tried to use different style of brushes etc. and didn't solve anything. 7. Uninstalled the app then installing it again didn't help. 8. Tried different settings when creating a new canvas ( including size ). ( The main settings that I'm normally trying to use are: DPI: 300-400 / Page Width: 500 / Page Height: 400 / Pixels / RGB/8 / sRGB IEC61966-2.1 ). The only way to get a nice looking brush is to make the canvas 5000x5000px but then when I save the image it's too big to be uploaded on discord or twitch. PC Specs: Intel-Core i7-9700 nVidia RTX 2070 (8GB) RAM 16GB DDR4 I'm 100% sure it's not from the tablet, since it's the same when I use the mouse but the tablet is GAOMON M106K PRO. Also the brushes I'm using are the "default basic" ones. P.S: Check if there's a red text on the screenshots, if there is a red text it means that the screenshots is an example taken from a youtube video.
  10. I'd love a feature that connects linework without using nodes like Procreate does. I'll attach a video link so you'll see what I mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwrVqHyuGgE at 7:51 he starts connecting the lines. Once he connects them he can drag/drop colors into each open space. When I try that with Designer, the color goes outside the lines. If these features are available, please let me know how and where.
  11. Basically, I'm fairly new to Affinity Designers and recently got a drawing tablet. When I use a mouse to use the vector brush tool it is not shifted/wobbly. But, when I draw the same line with my VEIKK A30 drawing tablet it is all wobbly and shaky. I know I don't have the stabilizer on but, I don't like the way it functions. (I know that's how stabilizers work and are behind the point of your pen but, why are they straight when drawn with the mouse.) Below, is a screenshot I took as an example. You can see the pen settings above in the bar so, please if you see anything wrong point it out. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but, I see numerous videos of Affinity Designer on YouTube where they are drawing straight lines without the stabilizer on...
  12. This did not happen before, but now every time I finish drawing a line (black) with the Vector Pen Tool and my Tablet, I go to fill the new shape (Red). When I click the Vector Pen Tool, the stroke is now RED instead of black, forcing me to constantly switch back to black. This is the first time I've seen the color change based off of whatever color I used to fill a shape. Does anyone know how to keep the black as default and stop changing?
  13. Hi I have been trying to use the Selection Brush tool, to put an object from a photo i have taken, on to a white background. But after pressing "refine" and putting the white background, som square lines seem to appear (Some times they are white, other times they are black). It has happened before when using it and i can´t seem to make them disappear. It is possible for me to erase the lines with the erase brush tool, but it takes too much time to do every time. What am i doing wrong, and how can i remove them? Best regards, Emma.
  14. I'm trying to recreate a form for school registration, how can I create dotted lines or the underline for forms in publisher? Similar to how it's done in InDesign in the following links.
  15. After making adjustments using levels or curves strange artifacts appear as lines on random parts of the image. I have tried this on various different images and the same problem occurs. The problem occurs after merging adjustments. Below I show a sample of what is happening. I have circled the artifacts in red. This is incredibly annoying and makes the software virtually unusable. I am using windows 10 and latest version of Affinity.
  16. In page plus, a line could have one of eleven different patterns, including a double line. Useful for putting a stroke around a rounded rectangle, Is there any way that this can be done in the Affinity suite?
  17. Theres probably some really simple way to do this but I've got a bit of a mental block! I just need to create some shapes like a capital 'L' made of two straight lines but I need to have a round corner connecting them and I need to be able to control the corner radius. How do I do that. I'm using Designer..
  18. Hey, I have the next challenge. I'm working on an ornament. However, would like to overlap some lines over other lines. Is there a method to handle this conveniently? Do you have any advice for me? The only option is to trace the lines with the pen tool and snapping tool, but this seems to take a long time. There must be some other useful approach I think. line above and under other line.afdesign
  19. Hi I am troubled with Scanlines in my Scans of Old Photos. Scanning them with 1200 dpi. And just for Print or Displaying they are good enough. But as soon as i work with them (like sharpening) Scanlines become visible. Now to my Problem. It only happens in certain Areas of wihte and grey. So using "FFT Denoise" works but i get Banding on other Areas. Zoomed in With "Detect Horizontal Edges" i can make the worst parts visible. Zoomed in But how do i proceed from here out on to only use the Filter on this Areas in the Final Picture? And is there another Option than the FFT Denois Filter. Because i have a couple of hundred of Pictures and FTT does not work in combination with the Macro Feature for Batch processing. Hope someone got an Idea
  20. Hi all! I've only been using the Designer software for a few days, and I have no previous with graphic design software outside of Photoshop. My problem is that every time I create a dashed/dotted line, the dots never seem to match up where they meet at the start and end points, does anyone have any advice? See the attached screenshot of the issue. Thanks guys!
  21. Hi, just new here...just want to ask if there is a way to snap brush lines to make a continuous freehand line
  22. Hi I’m trying to print out an image which has been put together with various elements and text tool. I’ve done lots of others in this way but for some reason this particular one keeps printing out with a line through the same 2 words despite it not appearing on the screen....HELP PLEASE!!
  23. I am looking for, but not finding, an equivalent to Mac Pages' Arrange/Distribute Objects Evenly. The closest action in Publisher is to Duplicate then move the duplicated line to desired position. Further iterations will replicate the spacing, BUT if I need to adjust or add to the grouping later I need to start all over. In Pages, any time you want to rearrange the lines you place the first and last where you want them, select all the lines, then Arrange/Distribute Objects Evenly/Vertical (or Horizontal or Evenly, depending upon the orientation and desired arrangement), and no matter how many lines are between the first and last they are spaced evenly between those two. [MacBook Pro, OS 10.11.6]
  24. Just discovering affinity and getting used to the program took a hot second as my only digital experience has been a few undergrad digital painting courses with the cintiq but I primarily work on ipad with procreate UNTIL now. Overall I love Affinity so far as a comics creator, the toolsets the platform offers are just better suited to my needs as a sequential artist in general, and is the first legitimate alternative to photoshop I feel that has been offered on the IOS platform. Inking in the platform is miles ahead of procreate in that I can get a nearly analog realistic end result just with the default brush sets alone (which I haven’t even tweaked yet). I do have several things that have come up that are by no means deal breakers but admittedly when going through my workflow proved to be somewhat of an impediment. 1- With tool short cut commands while using a keyboard, the limitations in the pixel persona are quite evident. You have an amazing toolset available and the ability to switch back and forth between ALL available tools with keyboard shortcuts would speed up my workflow significantly. Namely when working in the pixel persona, having the ability to use a shortcut to quickly switch to the selection tool would be amazing. Possibly a solution could be to keep the current shortcuts as they are but simply adding the neglected tools to the list WITHOUT default shortcuts, allowing the user to input commands themselves to whatever suits their needs. -expanding on this some more, additionally adding a keyboard function to alter brush size and opacity would be amazing, or just the option to custom bind a key to it. 2- One thing I noticed while working was that the program struggled keeping up with my speed? (As an FYI I’m on a 2nd gen IpadPro 12.9”) Admittedly I work rather quickly and freehanded so when doing things like hatching- if I make strokes in rapid succession the program tends to seize up slightly and takes a few seconds to register the marks, and typically when it does any indication of pressure sensitivity is gone and I have to erase and slow myself down. Lastly- altering the function of pressing “shift” while actively drawing. I really wish it didn't “lock” the line to either vertical or horizontal and instead treated it as a point of origin while maintaining control over pressure sensitivity and snapping to a straight line. Again, overall I LOVE affinity as a sequential artist and have been informing my professors and colleagues about the program with great enthusiasm- and all of them expressed keen interest when I listed all the functionality options affinity has in comparison to procreate. You guys have truly made the ipad a viable alternative to other mobile creative platforms and I sincerely thank you! Threw a page of inking I did in here where I was basically just experimenting with brush functionality and learning the platform in general!
  25. Hi, It seems Publisher does not allow me to put the line spacing to minus? It seems it always MUST be adjusted not lower than 100%? PLEASE TELL ME I AM WRONG! Please tell me I am just missing a tiny thing somewhere. Super annoyed, bartl
