  1. Hello everyone, I have a question about swapping faces in a picture. How do I make it look the swapped face like it was on the original picture. I mean the same colour, tone, texture et cetera. There is a tutorial for Photoshop that does exactly what I mean but I don' t know how to translate that to Affinity. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7bDCFlSeGg Thanks in advance!
  2. The existing way of locking the layer does not protect its contents from unwanted change. It only provides protection before selecting from canvas area and moving contents (https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/53707-lockingunlocking-layers/&do=findComment&comment=271924). But it would also be useful to ensure protecting the layer from unwanted contents modifications. For example, as it is solved in Photoshop, with "Fully" and "Partialy" lock (https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/moving-stacking-locking-layers.html). Related Threads
  3. Hey guys, a sorely needed feature in AP and AD is PS style Layer Linking. Layer Linking allows me to keep my layers grouped in one logical way, while allowing my to move/adjust certain layer attributes ACROSS groups, so I don't have to ungroup and reselect layers in other groups. It's a HUGE workflow enhancer, and it would be GREATLY welcomed in my process (and I'm sure others') and quest to get off the Adobe teat... Please consider this addition in all your apps, not only AP. If you have any other questions as to why it's valuable ask away... :D Thanks again for all your hard work and making an incredible tool!
  4. I got a problem I got a photo and make a Selection on then I go to the other panel to duplicate to a new layer but doesn't work, sometimes duplicate but the hole photo even when the Selection is there can someone help me IMG_0014.MP4
  5. A bit of a weird one. When I create a new layer and double click the title to rename it, if I type the new layer name too quickly the app seems to commit to the new name before I've even finished typing it. This seems to be especially prevalent when I try and rename it with anything starting with the letter "S". For instance, if I make a new layer and I want to rename it "Skyline", I double click the default name "(Pixel)" and quickly start typing "Skyline" I only get as far as "Sky" before it commits to the renaming. So I end up with a layer prematurely called "Sky" and accidentally proceed to toggle all of the keyboard shortcuts for the remaining characters in the word "L I N E" while thinking I'm still busy typing out the layer name. Hopefully this makes some kind of sense! Please let me know if you need more info.
  6. I'm Affinity iPad newbie. Looked high and low and tried all I can, but.....how does one copy a selection to a new layer that can be blended with the original layer? Something I do easily and repeatedly in PS. Yes, I can do it on mainframe Affinity. Many thanks for the help!
  7. Hi, there seems to be no "one click" way to resize/scale a layer or vector object to the current canvas size. I would love to see this as an option when adding a layer/asset or as a button on the transform tool context bar, because I often have to manually resize assets or new layers when dragging/dropping objects to a document. Seems it would take just little effort to implement this and would incredibly reduce the amount of manual adjustments. What do you think? This feature was already suggested some times as in the threads listed below but it seems there is no easy way to achieve the desired result:
  8. I'm having difficulty copying a selection to a new layer. It's a kind of routine thing for making comps... I'm more used to PS and Affinity may work differently so can someone walk me through this please? Sorry if this is a simple question, but a forum search for "copy selection to new layer" did not offer any results and I couldn't see it under 'Help'.
  9. In photoshop it is very convenient to be able to drag a layer from one image and plop it in another open image. I haven't found a way to do that in AP yet. I suppose one could select the right layer, copy, then go to the new document and paste but it is so much easier to see the layer you want in the layer list, grab it and drag to the new document having it create a copy of the layer there. I've tried various things and ended up with frustrating results (it not creating a new layer but 'pasting' the image into an existing layer for one). Perhaps I'm just going about it wrong. Is there a way to do this drag and drop layer procedure with AP?
  10. Two critical bugs when exporting a file as a PSD file. 1. Any layer marked hidden in Affinity Photo shows up in the exported PSD file as empty. 2. In the exported PSD file, all layers are clipped to the size of the canvas in the Affinity Photo document. The first bug can be worked around by unhiding the layer before export. A pain but doable until fixed. The second bug is fatal. We are looking at buying about 10 licences to deploy Affinity Photo to our team but we have to maintain compatibility with Photoshop as some work will go outside where that is their design package. So any layer that extends beyond the canvas in a document is rendered useless by Affinity Photo clipping to the canvas. This means we will have to look for an alternate application. Which is a real frustration as AP does so many things so very well. Can you hyper-escalate this bug to the development team and provide some kind of workaround in the interim? By the way, importing of PSD files—some with some pretty esoteric filters, adjustment layers, masks, etc.—works very well in Photo. Kudos for that guys. Affinity Photo 1.7.3 on macOS 10.14.6.
  11. Hi, I have a terribly frustrating bug with renaming layers. I've seen this posted before, and the bug was said to be fixed in an update (which has already come). When typing a new name for layers, the text field constantly de-focuses itself – this happens so often, and so regularly, that naming layers is essentially a completely lost function for me. Layer naming is a critical function that I can not afford to lose. It can take me sometimes longer than an entire minute to successfully rename a single layer, artboard or group. I am using a MacBook pro with external monitor. Happens with a wired mouse, wireless magic mouse, external keyboard and MacBook Pro keyboard -- there is no known issues with any input or display device. This bug also happens with the latest version of AD from the Mac App Store, as well as with the Beta. The bug occurs on layers of all types, as well as groups and artboards. This bug, for me, is only observed in the Layers palette -- all other palettes are fine with input. In the attached video, you can see me renaming layers. In this video, the first layer is renamed correct. Then I add another layer and try to rename that one, to show how the chaos unfolds... While editing the name of this new layer, I never once press return to commit the name at any point in the video. The layer constantly loses focus, commits the incomplete name, and my typing fingers then punch random hotkeys... This is incredibly frustrating for work. I am a super loud proponent of AD, I love all that if offers... but this bug alone is enough to ruin my workflow and make designing in AD an absolute headache. Previous posts for reference: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/18336-new-layer-naming/-- Very last comment, it goes unaddressed. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15832-bug-141-renaming-layers-broken/-- Caught in a beta, apparently logged but never addressed. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/24660-rename-layer-with-obstacles/-- Similar problem, and marked as fixed. I am pulling my hair out over this one. Thanks for all your hard work, -WV affinity-rename-layers.mov
  12. Copying scanned linework from one document to another. Just copy paste a few times, and then merging the layers down. The image gets blurred more and more each time I merge the layer down. Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening? I work with black & white pencil drawings a lot, and need to preserve the gritty feel of the lines.
  13. I often move layers around, in affinity photo it is not easy to move layers up, often I drop it into a sub layer. Is it possible to tap and hold and have the option to move layer to top or just up. Rgds, Henk Brouwer
  14. I'm trying to expand or collapse a set of selected layers/groups from the Layers Studio, but Affinity apps don't allow me to do this en masse. My file has over 700 layers/groups and this is VERY tedious. Could you please add this functionality, in the same way changing visibility or locking layers en masse currently functions? Simply put, if I have a bunch of layers selected and I click the triangle to expand or collapse, apply that toggle to ALL selected layers, just like Visibility and Lock icons do. Another level of functionality for power users would include expanding or collapsing ALL layers/groups (even those nested within currently selected layers/groups) while holding down the Option or Control keys on the keyboard. These small things really make a huge difference in speed of workflow and productivity. Thanks for your consideration and all you do!
  15. When working in the Layers panel, I would love to be able to use the keyboard for certain operations like moving up and down in the layer tree with arrow key selecting layers by typing their names renaming a layer by hitting F2 moving layers up and down by hitting Ctrl+Up / Ctrl+Down (or Alt, maybe in combination with Shift) selecting layers by holding down the Shift key and using the arrow keys afterwards There might be more useful appliances for keyboard shortcuts.
  16. It would be great if there are options for copying, pasting, disabling and removing layer effects by right clicking on a layer. I know layer effects can removed by clicking on the fx icon and unchecking the boxes. What do you think friends?
  17. Want to delete one layer (grey square). But as soon as I try to software closes down. Tried this several times. Already de-installed programme and started new installation. But failure still exists. Can not work on file anymore. Any idea or help. newsletter.afpub
  18. I'm consistently having an issue in Affinity Photo in which adjustments (such as applying a mask, or cropping) apply to the entire image, and not just the selected layer. This happens regardless of whether the "Edit All Layers" button is checked or not. Is this a bug, or is something wrong in my preferences?
  19. There doesn't seem to be a way to merge an adjustment layer with the vector objects it is applied to. I already made a post asking about how to accomplish this here: But there doesn't seem to be a practical way to do it. This is frustrating because the HSL layer, for example, is an amazing way to recolor your artwork that is rendered almost useless when you can't merge it with the vector objects it is applied to. Adobe Illustrator has had a recolor feature for years and the only reason I'm not making the switch to AD is this. Merging adjustment layers would fix this issue completely and would be an amazing (and logical) addition to AD.
  20. It would be really helpful if I could copy layer effects to another layer, like in Illustrator. Copy: alt + drag the fx icon (on layer) to a new layer and the effects should be copied. Very often, e.g. when using outlined text this is necessary. Move: drag fx icon (on layer) from one layer to another layer (e.g. to move effects from a layer to parent group
  21. I know that I can duplicate a layer by cmd + drag. However this does not seem to work in the players panel. This is a very handy feature in illustrator as it allows to duplicate a layer without moving it and immediatly changing the order of it. I know I can cmd + j do duplicate and move it afterwards, but since this is a very often used thing, it makes working quite annoying. Please add this.
  22. SVG format does not save Adjustments added The adjustments are gone after I export using SVG format Could provide a AFDESIGN file for the staff if required to replicate the bug When you open the SVG file saved, the adjustments are gone, removed
  23. Hi Mates, Is there anyway to rename the layer/layers with a hotkey? Tried to search in hotkey config but I didn't find any renaming option in Layer keys. Thanks!
  24. When "Add Layer" is clicked, make it appear in the hierarchy next to a selected item. Also if multiple items are selected and if "Add Layer" is pressed, automatically put them inside the new layer.
  25. With CTRL+left click on a layer icon it is possible to create a selection from the contents of this layer. In PS (I know, AP is not PS...) you can use SHIFT or ALT as modifiers for adding to, subtracting from or intersecting with an existing selection. I would like to see this in AP, too. For adding two or more layers to a single selection there is at least a workaround: make a group from the layers you want the selection from and CTRL+left click the group layer icon to get a selection made of the "summed up" content of each of the grouped layers. However I haven't either figured out a way to realize the other operations or how to modify an existing selection with "selection from layer".
