  1. Please add a select all objects on a layer. I often group objects together or put them in a layer in which each object has the same appearance. It would be a major help if I could select all objects on a layer or in a group. This also helps when modifying imported DXF files.
  2. How do I open new image files and have them go into a new layer? So far the only way I can get a new image into a layer is to open it, it opens in a new 'project(?)', a completely separate window. Then I select the image, copy, then go back to the project I'm working on and paste it into a layer. There has to be a direct way to just point to a file and have it open in the selected layer.
  3. I would like to have a layer visibility toggle that toggles layer states between show and hide. In complex layer structures, this helps to see the effect of the current layer. It would help to have a hotkey for this, so I won't have to leave the canvas. I also use Designer as a quick file viewer for large files that I link in. I then need to show/hide certain layers as way to compare and evaluate them. In that case two shortcuts for showing and hiding is not as efficient as a single toggle. Others requested this in support topics, which is why I create this feature request.
  4. Some of my Group icons in designer's layers panel have a round dot within them. Some others do not. What is the difference? Thank you!
  5. Hi, first of all I don't know if this is a bug or ... a feature... but, reading the help manual in the "Applying adjustments" I read: Merge—merges the current adjustment layer with the layer immediately below it in the layer order. Now, unless I don't know how to use it ... which it could also be..., but on my mac (AD2, bigsur) I have a picture layer (positioned at very bottom) and on top of that three adjustment layers. if I click one of the adjustment layers (for example the first of the three on top), it opens correctly its "property window" where the "merge" button is, but If I click on the "merge" button, absolutely nothing happens in the layers => all of them remain there, while I expected a merge with the adjustment layer below, as the manual says. ... am I doing wrong ? anyone can help ? thx
  6. There doesn't seem to be a way to merge an adjustment layer with the vector objects it is applied to. I already made a post asking about how to accomplish this here: But there doesn't seem to be a practical way to do it. This is frustrating because the HSL layer, for example, is an amazing way to recolor your artwork that is rendered almost useless when you can't merge it with the vector objects it is applied to. Adobe Illustrator has had a recolor feature for years and the only reason I'm not making the switch to AD is this. Merging adjustment layers would fix this issue completely and would be an amazing (and logical) addition to AD.
  7. Layer symbols are not displayed correctly, if you hover over the symbol icon (the crossed dot), Designer displays a pop-up that reads: "layer", whereas the layer is in fact a symbol. Also, the name of the symbol in the symbol studio and layers studio still reads "layer", instead of "symbol" as symbols would. Also note that if I delete all the layers, the symbol in the symbol studio will read group, as opposed to "symbol". See video, should be self-explanatory. 2023-01-12 13-01-13.mp4
  8. Hi! I am very new to Affinity. I have searched in the forum but didn't find anything similar, so I don't know... maybe it is only happening to me. I created a new file of 127px width, 180 px height, with 72 dpi. My test is small because I found the problem with that one, but it happens with other sizes. Drag the woman image so it is a new layer (linked). I then resize that layer (the layer, not the document) to a 10% width with Transform panel. You can see how the image gets pixelated, or some would say blurry (depending on the zoom level!). This is not happening in Photoshop, which looks fine. This problem is NOT happening in Affinity Designer, nor Publisher. This is a problem, cause you can not work in a blurry-pixelated image in "photo persona". I don't know if there are other options to preview images (in Preferences>Performance>View Quality I have "bilinear (best quality)", as with "Nearest Neighbour" is much worse). Exporting as JPG through "File>Export" Resample: Bicubic Quality 100% gets same blurrines-pixelation. Resample: Lanczos 3 Non-separable, which seems the best Quality 100% gets better. I think is even better than photoshop, at least with this small export size. Ok, then I change to "export persona" and the image in the monitor looks as expected! But exporting it gets same results as before. You can check and try with the attached elements (woman photo is free, on Pixabay: https://pixabay.com/photos/woman-portrait-face-skin-make-up-3096664/ I downloaded the 1920px option). Thank you! Edit: I have uploaded a new image: a screen capture of Affinity Photo vs Photoshop. woman.psd woman.afphoto
  9. UPDATED: paint brush DOES NOT WORK when painting a mask as shown in affinity tutorial 2 pixel layers, black mask on the top one, I select the brush and white paint and try to paint on the mask, nothing happens. Am I missing something? you paint masks with black and white to mask out or in things right? EDIT: can confirm even after watching affinity tutorial on masking, paint bursh does not work atall on a mask, it doesn't wor for painting white nor black, the only available thing is to "paint" the mask with the eraser tool, operation which is not reversable. Help, there must be something wrong
  10. Would be nice if you cloud add this command to Publisher as well.
  11. What I would like is to have new ways of changing the layer of an object. Usually, I select the objects on the canvas, so they can be in multiple nested layers. Currently, I have to do an awful lot of scrolling to move content from one nested layer to another. Or use the Move Outside command, followed by Bring to Front/ Sent to bottom and then drag the objects to the layer I want them in. In CAD software and in Blender you have commands like these, which you can use to pick a layer to nest the objects in. Basically it shows a layer tree without showing the objects themselves (those need to be preselected). Then you pick the layer you want to drop the objects in. It's as simple as that. For Affinity, the button to confirm could even be removed (if you add a button next to a layer so that it is easy to click on and hard to misclick). 2022-12-07 15-29-04.mp4 Another idea is to copy Illustrator's layer panel where you see in which layer the selected objects are (it displays a dot with the layer colour). Then, you can drag and drop this dot to another layer, which effectively moves the content to this layer. 2022-12-07 15-29-04.mp4
  12. I would advocate that if you collapse a layer, you do not want to lock the object you have just created. Instead, I often collapse the layer, because I am done working on it and want to lock it to prevent any further changes. But when a layer is collapsed, the last created object remains selected (which is what I expect), however, I think that collapsing should indicate to the lock button that you want it to affect the layer (also because you can no longer see which object you lock). Collapse, select the layer and lock now requires 3 actions, whereas it could take just two (get rid of selecting the layer). If you wanted to lock the object instead, you should lock the object and then collapse the layer. 2022-11-23 08-32-13.mp4
  13. Hi Mates, Is there anyway to rename the layer/layers with a hotkey? Tried to search in hotkey config but I didn't find any renaming option in Layer keys. Thanks!
  14. Would be nice if the Rasterize command could rasterize all selected layers at once individually.(no merge) Same goes for the Rasterize & Trim command. I know this has been requested by other users many times.
  15. The Affinity apps have three different types of buttons of add layers in the layer panel: "Add Pixel Layer" In Photo and Designer "Add Layer" in Designer and Publisher "Group Layers" in Photo The Layer from "Add Layer" in Designer and Publisher is very useful for organizing content and preserving separate selection for items inside of it. While the "Group" is useful for adjusting multiple items together. I know that Photo has Auto-select feature now, but it's better to have both types in the same document. T his is also the same type of organizational layer in Photoshop and other raster software, I don't know why Affinity decided to make Photo different. My workflow in Photo now is almost opening the document first in either Designer or Publisher, pressing "Add Layer" a couple of times and then returning to Photo. If you add "Add Layer" like in the other apps, it'll make organization easier and save me 2 minutes of my life each time I create a new Photo document. The Group Layers can be created by just clicking ctrl+g, or can be left alongside it.
  16. The "Layer" and other type of layers should have more distinctive name/wording. Photo has the command "New Layer" though it does not have the Layer and actually it's the Pixel layer. It's confusing. "
  17. Occasionally, when I link layer visibility, the order of the layers in the layer tree is changed for the layer that I drag to link in the Linked Layers panel. This happens when one or both layers that are linked are nested inside other layers. The layers do not have the same parent layer. The bug causes the layer that I link (the one I drag to the panel) to be moved outside of the layer it was nested in. However, I do notice that if this occurs, I can hit undo, which restores the layer position while retaining the Linked Layer status. I do not yet have a means to reproduce the issue, see video below. Sometimes the layer appears below its parent layer and sometimes it appears on top. 2022-10-23 11-26-55.mp4 While trying to record the issue, I also noticed that the order of the layers can be shuffled around. Undoing them clearly shows that the bottom layer "Parks" switched order with "Daycare and Kindergarden" that is on top of it. 2022-10-23 11-28-53.mp4 This is on Windows 10, 19044.2006. Hardware acceleration is disabled.
  18. I have a Macbook Pro 16 with lots of Ram. I updated to Big Sur and then latest Affinity for Big Sur. Now I sometimes have trouble selecting layers. I have to tap them several times. Also Affinity photo is much slower. Help!
  19. Hi there! I am new to Affinity but haven't found this question searching in the forum. I attach the illustrator file so you can try. Just import it to Affinity Designer (settings in the image file). It seems that the layers of the big logo (the small one is just the original, for comparations) keep the aspect as in illustrator, I mean they have some degree of transparency, but the Fill opacity values in Affinity layers are 100%. How to fix this without using the "Revert Defaults" which causes loosing the amount of transparency? Also, another question: In the Illustrator file I have another grey square out of the document space (to the left) but it is not kept in Affinity. How can I keep it? Thank you! prueba.ai
  20. Hello there, I'm hoping to perform a series of actions on multiple elements within a layer/group. I can do that now, but only after repeatedly getting inside then (involuntarily) outside then inside a layer/group. Is it possible to limit all actions within a layer/group until I explicitly exit with a command? (For example, in Illustrator, one must double-click an empty area to exit editing a group.) Thanks
  21. I'm trying to expand or collapse a set of selected layers/groups from the Layers Studio, but Affinity apps don't allow me to do this en masse. My file has over 700 layers/groups and this is VERY tedious. Could you please add this functionality, in the same way changing visibility or locking layers en masse currently functions? Simply put, if I have a bunch of layers selected and I click the triangle to expand or collapse, apply that toggle to ALL selected layers, just like Visibility and Lock icons do. Another level of functionality for power users would include expanding or collapsing ALL layers/groups (even those nested within currently selected layers/groups) while holding down the Option or Control keys on the keyboard. These small things really make a huge difference in speed of workflow and productivity. Thanks for your consideration and all you do!
  22. Hello! I work a lot with screen grabs of social media and sometimes I need to quickly cut an image to replace it with another due to copyrights, on the example below I want to grab this selection only and copy to the left to cover the guy's face. On photoshop, usually this shortcut is Control + J (Or CMD+J) But in Affinity Photo is not the case, I've tried to use "Control + C + Control + V" but no dice either, it just copy the whole image. the only way I managed to do this is by clicking on the mask icon, but this is far to slow when you need to do this all the time. So how I do this simple operation on Affinity? Cheers,
  23. Hi, I want to make an object (green square) with a transparent hole inside of it. How do you do this? I can't seem to find the option for this So basically a square, with a circle inside of it, but you cannot see the fill of the circle as well as the fill of the square. So a square with a hole inside. In my attachment the circle is black, however I want it gone. Black hole that should be transparent.afdesign If I try to make the circle a mask of the layer, I get a round circle...? How do I inverse this? Removing the circle not the green square? Masked square that gives a round green circle.afdesign
  24. I'm Affinity iPad newbie. Looked high and low and tried all I can, but.....how does one copy a selection to a new layer that can be blended with the original layer? Something I do easily and repeatedly in PS. Yes, I can do it on mainframe Affinity. Many thanks for the help!
