  1. Is there a bug with the locking of child layers? Mask layers can be locked but don't show a lock. And if you lock clipped layers or masks in the layer panel they will still move with the parent object. They only stay locked in their position with the 'Lock children' option enabled. If this is by design and there are two kinds of locking, they probably should have different names. (Freeze children sounds great.) But more importantly: often times I only want to freeze the position of the mask and not the clipped layers. Masks frequently relate to the position of other layers in the layer stack. Is there a way to freeze them separately? Also with the 'Lock children' option enabled the children still flip and rotate with the buttons in the upper toolbar.
  2. Hi, I have tried to create a layer mask similar to the layer mask tutorial, and add in a new layer for the sky in one of my creations (attached ). However as a result of the layer mask, there is an unsightly fringing appearance affecting my original photo (in this case the building) where it meets the new sky layer. Has anyone else had a similar problem or know a solution? Thanks
  3. I am voicing my request again for editable spare channels to create custom masking as seen here. Presently I can do it and I've actually gotten it down. But it would be so much easier if we could have editable channels. Instead of 4-6 steps it could be done in 1!!! Please Please consider!
  4. I am looking for a why to create or quickly fill a layer mask with black. I tried holding various control keys while creating a mask and it always comes filled with white. I made the layer mask visible with by alt clicking it then tried to fill it with the bucket of black and that didn't work. Any suggestions?
  5. I have a black logo on a white backbround as a JPG image. I would like to make all the White transparent (alpha channel), so that I can save it as a Black Logo on a Transparent background PNG. What is the cleanest/ most accurate way to do this, please? Using a bitmap image as a mask is ideally what I need (copy the inverted greyscale image into the alpha channel to get the transparency) any help is really appreciated. I have Affinity Designer & Photo beta.
  6. Love the masking feature. To improve work flow I was wondering if it would be possible to add some sort of shortcut to mask a shape into another shape. Instead of going to the layer panel dragging a layer into another layer, it would be sweet to be able to do this on the drawing board. For example, I have two shapes, circle and rectangle. I want my rectangle masked/clipped inside of the circle. I select the rectangle, press cmd+m (actual short-cut may vary) the short-cut activates the 'layer-mask selector' and my cursor now highlights all shapes on-hover. I simply hover over the shape I want, this case the circle— it highlights, I click on it, and now my rectangle in clipped inside the circle or in other words the layer masked is applied. Hope this makes sense. This would be really cool and helpful!
