  1. Hi there, I would like to ask if anyone else has the same behaviour as me when typing text in the 1.6.1 of AD. Assume that I create a body text style with a specific kerning and tracking number (negative values). I type the text, all good (upper text paragraph in the image). However, when I revisit the paragraph and add something (Affinity Designer), the kerning and tracking in this latest addition is lost (upper text paragraph in the image). I need to select all the text and select the paragraph style again to correct it (lower text paragraph in the image). You see the problem for the guide lines I have inserted. Best regards, A.
  2. Hi ! Is it possible to kern whole row or chapter, instead of one character? kr Nikolai Ylirotu Finland
  3. The SVG export in AD of a text term (both frame and artistic) does not appear to recognize AD tracking correctly. The SVG made from AD puts the proper tracking between the first and second character of a single word, but then bunches all of the next letters together as if they had no tracking, but the last letter appears in its proper place at the very end with a large space before it, i.e., as if all of the other letters had been properly tracked. I have tried using kerning rather than tracking in creating the same single term (again in both frame and artistic text), but all metric options are greyed (not available). In this respect, I have to return to Illustrator which works better, although the tracking/kerning in the SVG is slightly less than in the original. BTW, I'm still trying to figure out how kerning vs tracking works in AD since it appears to be different than I understand from my publishing experience. Are there any posts or help articles that could illuminate my ignorance?
  4. First I want to say that you guys are literally the only ones who have made the Touch Bar on the MacBook Pro useful. Seriously, it's great execution on having appropriate adjustments and functions on the bar. Most app devs treat the bar like an after-thought and, if implemented appropriately (which it almost never is), it's quite useful. Something I'd love to see implemented is a more robust Touch Bar for the character menu. Currently there are only the three bold, italic, and underline options, all of which often aren't applicable for most fonts. I can imagine having things like tracking, leading, and font size dials available, perhaps with a few options like all-caps or small-caps. And while I wouldn't want the actual font-picker menu on the touch bar (way too much swiping), having a picker for font variations within a family would certainly be valuable (slightly less swiping). I can even imagine seeing ligature or Open-Type variants pop up when highlighting specific characters.
  5. Default shortcuts of Ctrl + Alt + Left/Right do not work due to an issue already reported elsewhere. I modified the Slacken More and Tighten More shortcuts to Ctrl + Alt + Plus/Minus on the Numeric Keypad, which works as expected. However, the default shortcuts are the opposite of what they should be compared to the same shortcuts in PagePlus, and the steps are too big. In Affinity Designer, the Tighten More shortcut kerns text five times more quickly with Ctrl key modifier than without it. In PagePlus, the Condense/Expand Shortcut kerns text ten times more slowly with the Ctrl key modifier. (Nudge is the same, being smaller increments with the Ctrl modifier). Suggested Fixes: Alt + Left should condense text in steps of 1% Alt + Right should expand text in steps of 1% Ctrl + Alt + Left should condense text in steps of 0.1% Ctrl + Alt + Right should expand text in steps of 0.1%
  6. Hi quick Q about kerning. I don't seem to be able to adjust individual words or characters within a text frame. Seems I can only adjust the entire contents of a text frame? Is this correct? S
  7. I try to convert some work from Adobe Illustrator. I made some logo design in Adobe Illustrator. As Illustrator format basically contains an embedded PDF it's pretty easy to see a preview just using QuickView in Mac OS. The format was imported without issues but there might be a general issue correctly respect the kerning information from the font. There are some huge gaps between specific symbol groups mostly related to the uppercase "A" character. At least this is the place where it's most obvious that there is something wrong. I did two PNG exports of the original file rendered by Affinity and Illustrator. I think it's pretty obvious what's wrong. Is better font support on the roadmap or is that some specific issue with some font files? Thanks for support and clarification!
  8. Hello Affinity, first I want to say, that I am waiting for a Adobe competitor for a long time now. I am very glad you started the Affinity project and I am also looking forward to the publishing tool. This morning I bought a license for the app and I already did some testing. I have to say. I am a professional type designer and I work a lot with curves in Fontlab and Glyphs. The outline tools you get in Illustrator are very poor, I think. Due to those problems I would say, that I can achieve a good outline in the font apps in half the time. Still the font apps could be even better. Maybe I cannot expect you to really implement what I would like to have because you might say it is not important for most of the users. But still I want to share with you. Maybe it is even better to speak on the phone about that. I am working with curves in 2 different ways. With open and with closed outlines. In Glyphes and Fontlab I can easily copy and paste parts of a form. It is also very simple to open and close a form. The reason, why I copy and past a section is to maintain that part when I want to scale it. In other cases it is better to have separate closed forms and work on them separately and remove the overlap later. For typefaces one thing is very important. The so called extrem points. I have uploaded a picture to show you what I mean. A very helpful feature would be a way to create those extremes automatically. Fontlab and Glyphs have that feature. But in Glyhes the extremes are just added and the other wrong points stay there and you have to delete them. Deleting points in Illustrator means that the curve changes drastically. Glyphs and Fontlab try to keep the curve as good as possible. I would love an option that creates extremes and deletes the unnecessary points. Extremes are very important for interpolating and not only in type tools. Oh, Kerning is not supported in Affinity Designer, is it? Is there an Open Type panel? I think that should be fine for now. I would love to discuss that stuff with you. Hubert
  9. Please add a feature to manual kern, like using [opt]+[arrow] in ai for example.
  10. Would love to be able to do the font spacing (horizontal kerning) and paragraph leading (vertical kerning) with a simple click of the mouse as in CorelDRAW. I'm a new Mac user, still on CorelDRAW X4 on VMWare Fusion. I'm looking for a good Mac Vector replacement, but it seems that every vector program is missing a few key features that I use regularly in CD. I will be listing the ones I'd love to see in Affinity. So far nothing is really a good replacement for the features I use. Would love to see Affinity become the Mac's CorelDRAW!
