  1. Hello, I can't seem to work out how to do this. I've limited experience with Affinity Photo, using it mostly for simple contrast and exposure adjustments. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but can't figure out how to apply a simple ND Filter effect to an overexposed sky. Thanks!
  2. Sirs, I tried to do Focus Merging (elsewhere known as Focus Stacking) using a set of 12 photos produced using the focus bracketing feature of my Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II. It seemed to do a good job and I was able to save in afphoto format but when I tried to export as JPEG it gave the message: An error occurred while exporting to: C:\Users\...\AffinityFocusMergedToyCars.jpg Metadata could not be embedded. I am running Affinity Photo 1.5.0.35 (Beta) under Windows 7, I also tried to de-fisheye a photo from my Samyang 7.5mm f:3.5 Fisheye lens taken on my Panasonic GF3 (micro four-thirds) using Filters - Distort - Lens Distortion but it seemed incapable of fully removing the barrel distortion even at -100%; Also, it would also be nice to have lens correction data.
  3. Hello, when i open any image (e.g. an jpg-image) and perform changes as changing the image resolution, canvas size or use some filters as mask unsharpen, the changes are shown on my monitor. But if i than export the image to e.g. an jpg file, all changes are away when I open the overworked image: I than have the original unchanged image. What am I doing wrong? Or is this a bug of Affinity Photo? It seems, that Affinity Photo is not saving the changes of the overworked image but only the original unchanged image. Additionally changes in the work space (e.g. changing the unit of the rulers to centimeters) are not remembered. On each new opened document as on each new startup of Affinity Photo, the rulers have maintained the original settings of pixels. I am using version 1.4.2. with an 27" iMac Retina. Best regards Martin
  4. With a 300 dpi image in affinity photo, I exported as jpg and chose 72 dpi. When I reopen the document in affinity photo or in photoshop it seems to always say that it is 300 dpi. I resized it again and saved it and still the same thing. It's important that I follow the guidelines when submitting my art so I am nervous to send this as I can't figure out why it wont stay 72 dpi? Thanks, Andrea
  5. Hello, it would be very nice to be able to see the preview and the estimated size in kb while exporting in jpg and png (and maybe an export with TinyPNG would be awesome ) thank you
  6. Hi, I created an illustration in Affinity and now when I am export it as a jpg the colours are coming out very dark than what I see in the workspace. Please see attached screenshot of workspace and the exported jpg. You will notice the colour are different in working file and the exported jpg. Why is it happening and how can I fix it? Also attached is the .afdesign file so you check. regards laborday.afdesign
  7. Can I save an image as a JPG or a TIFF. If not, can it be converted to a JPG or TIFF and how?
  8. I took about 300 pictures in Europe (all JPG). I have them separated into different folders (such as Budapest, Hungary, etc). Im using Affinity for the first time, but I'm finding out when you save, it only saves as a afphoto. I would like to save as JPG, so friends can view it on Facebook, or if I share, they can just open it. How can I save a Photo that I worked on in Affinity as a JPG to a specific folder?
  9. Hi. I'm having serious issues with exporting to jpg or any other format. When i do, the quality is significantly worse. But i can't work out why. Sometimes when i export some files they are fine, but others the quality is bad. Please help!
  10. Hi, Have any of you experienced poor quality jpg exports with Affinity Designer? I get highly pixelated images even with the quality slider set to 80%. In Photoshop, I would get better quality at lower percentages. No clue how their compression algorithms work but wondering if Designer has some different settings I don't know about that would help me get better quality exports. Any ideas?
  11. Hey Guys, First and foremost, incredible job with Affinity. I've been a professional web designer for over 10 years and have tried everything under the sun to replace Photoshop. You guys have finally done it, almost! Exporting for Web I can't get Affinity to export PNG or JPG file sizes as small in file size as Photoshop can, or looking as good either. It's my only concern, since as a web designer file sizes are a huge priority. When I export the same JPG through Affinity / Photoshop at 85 Quality, the file size comes out smaller from Affinity, but looks worse. When I try to match the quality with the one exported from Photoshop, the file sizes ends up much larger. I can run files through TinyJPG/PNG but that's an extra step to my workflow. Currently, this is a blocking issue for me to continue using the program. Font Sizes When re-sizing 'type elements' specifically, you actually have to let go of Shift for them to scale proportionately. Seems odd, since you have to hold shift to re-size everything else. Perspective In photoshop I can distort the perspective of an element, which I do quite a lot when preparing mockups in devices. I noticed it in the tutorial video but can't find where to do it. Do I need to switch to Affinity Photo in order to do that? That's all for now, I'll add more as I run into it. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Best, Geoff
  12. I downloaded the trial of Affinity Photo and was playing around with the program and was saving an image and noticed that it saved in .afphoto. How do I save it in .jpg?
  13. Hi, today I found that doesn't work expanded export settings in version 1.3.5 – botton «More» doesn't work. It only my mistake, or I do something not so?
  14. Yes, I've noted the following line in the Feature Roadmap for Affinity Photo: -Export persona - preview with compression and palette optimisation But since we don't know exactly what you are working on, I'd like to offer some guidance: 1) Please use Photoshop's "Save for Web" as a feature guide. I use just about every single feature there when optimizing graphics for the web. Transparency, Number of Colors, Interlaced, Various Dithers, Multiple Color palettes (Adaptive, Selective, Perceptual), Web Snap, and Lossy (for GIF) are all very serious features. 2) Please use a Quantizer for PNG optimization: http://pngnq.sourceforge.net I use TinyPNG all the time to convert my 24-bit PNGs with Transparency into super tiny PNG-8's! https://tinypng.com Build something like that into Affinity Photo and you've truly one-upped Photoshop! 3) Consider hiding or graying-out the "Resample" popup in the File>Export sheet whenever the dimensions are LOCKED. When UNLOCKED and the user changes the dimensions, only they would you need to resample. But when the dimensions are locked, no resampling is needed and so that resample popup only serves to confuse the user. 4) If you want to add a compression preview in File>Export it may be best to put that as a checkbox option, unchecked by default to ensure maximum performance. Thanks.
  15. I am experiencing a problem with Affinity Photo sufficiently severe as to make it unusable and sufficiently odd as to make it very hard to describe. So to save you all asking questions that I may have addressed already I shall take you through steps to date. This will be longish. The problem manifests itself as a severe re-draw delay. In its mild form it can cause jerky intermittent re-draws as the cursor moves. In it’s severe form NO redraw occurs at all until the pen is lifted from the slate. In both cases the cursor is continuously redrawn and moves smoothly but the operation being performed is not being properly re-drawn. The severity changes from tool to tool. It is very severe with selection tools, transforms, crop and eraser but only very mild with the brush tool. (See attached video screen capture) What made this particularly baffling is that it only happens sometimes. Sometimes I would open Affinity Photo and all would be fine another time I would open it and all would be dysfunctional. Sometimes it would even switch from functional to dysfunctional while open. I have an 8 core MacPro with 28GB of RAM and a fairly high end Nvidia GeForce 680 video card with 2G of VRAM. My OS X 10.10.3 and the Nvidia drivers are all up to date. Swap files and VM are on a fast SSD. At the time I tested this problem Affinity Photo was showing Memory Pressure 0%, Memory Efficiency 275%. So it didn’t look like a video or system resource problem. The first thing I did was to reinstall Affinity Photo. No change. The next thing I discovered was that the problem was confined to when using the Wacom Intuos Pro. With the mouse being used re-draws were perfect. I checked the Intuos drivers were up to date and just for good measure re-installed them anyway. No change. Given that my Intuos works fine with all my other software this begs the question whether it is the Intuos or Affinity Photo’s handling of it that was causing the lack of redraw. What still was baffling was why the problem came and went intermittently without apparent reason until I discovered it is image related. Certain images will trigger the dysfunctional redraw and with certain others all works perfectly! Whatever is going on it goes right back to the source image. I can open a brand new JPG with nothing done to it before and it will trigger the redraw problem every single time. I can open another brand new JPG and all works fine. This could have been chance so I did a high number of loads and reloads with a small number of JPG’s and the results were absolutely consistent. Certain JPG’s were “rogue” on every load and certain were “clean” on every load. It seemed that certain JPG’s had something in their make up that was triggering the problem in Affinity Photo. At this point I discovered something else. If I loaded a rogue problem causing JPG into Affinity Photo and immediately hit Save without performing any operations on it I get the message “The document contains non-pixel elements. Would you like to save the document flattened to pixels, or save as a new document?”. If I loaded a clean non problem causing JPG and did the same thing I did not receive that message. I know this has been listed as a bug elsewhere and I thought it had been dealt with. Anyway it would seem that this and the failure to re-draw properly seem to bear some relation. Having discovered this I tried opening a rogue JPG that would not redraw and saving it out as Affinity APHOTO and also exporting it to JPG, PNG, TIFF, and PSD. All five when re-loaded into Affinity Photo still refused to allow proper redrawing. I then loaded the original rogue JPG into AffinityDesign and all the drawing tools which caused problems in Affinity Photo worked fine in Affinity Design in PixelPersona. The problem these files are causing appears to be uniquely Affinity Photo. Almost done! My last test was to load a rogue JPG into Photoshop (CS6) and save it out as JPG and PSD. When I open these in Affinity Photo the rogue element is gone and all the tools work perfectly! Whatever is present in these problem JPG’s that is triggering the lack of proper redraw in Affinity Photo is cleaned up by re-saving from Photoshop. So at least I have a work around. But this is a very severe problem that renders Affinity Photo with a Wacom slate completely unusable for certain classes of file. I have no idea what might be the trigger here but I can say that all photos taken with my Canon 6OOD and my wife’s little Canon Ixus are rogues which cannot be processed properly by Affinity Photo because of dysfunctional redraws while photos taken on my little pocket Olympus process and redraw perfectly as do files previously saved by Photoshop. Sorry to ramble on but this is so bizarre ………….AffinityRedraw.mov
  16. Good evening, I completed my photo job and want to save it. If I click on "save as" I have to save it as .jpg.afphoto Does this chance when Affinity is no longer a Beta version? And if I want to save a photo I want to use less px because a lot of photos will my website make slower. But how can I decide with how many px a photo will be saved? Regards, Maarten
  17. Does Affinity use a copy of the RAW file for editing and is it non destructive?
  18. Dumb question cancelled. Should wait till I wake up before posting :-) But it does raise the issue of the contrast of controls and accessibility for people with impaired vision (and those who are just tired). Much of the design is 'cool' black and grey. I do not have particularly poor vision, but I find this lack of contrast a real pain. This is a screen grab of a drawing tab. I have to click on the X to close it. There is a grey X in the top left, but it could be a lot clearer. The Prefs/UI Gamma setting does not increase contrast enough. Are there plans to replace the grey with white and generally increase visual accessibility of the whole app? Cheers. RPJ
  19. Hi Everyone, I am not entirely sure if this has anything to do with my colour settings but each time I try dragging or pasting images into designer, the colour changes. Sometimes becomes faded like luminosity was applied. Sometimes colour just appear off/diff. Secondly, filling with colour white (C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:0) the page or filled objects looks like it has 8% Gray. I'll be glad to get help on this. Thanks Everyone.
