  1. Hi, I'm very much a beginner with Affinity Photo after years of only editing my photos in RAW form in apps like Lightroom and Capture One. What I've always understood is that a JPEG file is the final form, with edits 'baked in'. The idea of adding an HSL or brightness and contrast layer to a JPEG file seems very strange - surely this will push a compressed image too far? I understand adding pixel layers with creative effects or combining images, but what is the expert opinion on adjustments? My expected workflow will still be doing essential edits in a RAW editor, but should I export the end result as a TIFF file, for example, for more creative work in Affinity Photo in order to preserve quality and avoid artefacts?
  2. Need to export an image in designer to JPEG but under 1MB if possible for optimal website loading. The image is 2048x2048 px and it has to stay those measurements, the picture is perfect quality of 400dpi and need to keep it perfect quality. At the moment the images are exporting as 2-3MB per image. I have tried to set the document as 'web' but it reverts back to 'photo'. I know it's possible to do so as my competitors are achieving this with perfect images and having 170KB image size in JPEG files. Please help! Thank you!
  3. I recently encountered an export issue with a gate-fold card project I created. The document is a 4 page, "facing pages" project, with mixed spread dimensions: Page 1: 15x7in Page 2 & 3: 5x7in Page 4: 10x7in It is configure this way so that I get 4 images when I export All Pages, and the single image on pages 2 & 3 is split in half. When I export All Spreads, it produces 3 images, all with correct dimensions (4500x2100, 3000x2100, 3000x2100). When I export All Pages, all 4 images are forced into a single dimension (4500x2100). In all cases, I am exporting using preset JPEG (Best Quality) I tried playing around with various settings, but always with the same result. A document is attached from which I can reproduce this issue. I reproduced this with versions 1.7.2 and 1.7.3 - at first I thought it was a regression introduced in 1.7.3, but reproduced after rolling back to 1.7.2. 5x7 Gate Fold - Export Bug.afpub
  4. I am trying to stitch 5 jpeg images and it just sits there with one thread maxxed out displaying "Loading 1 document..." in the title bar. Given the comparative speed with which I can stich 14 RAW files I am going to assume this is a bug.
  5. Initially say that I am a beginner in photo editing. Affinity is my first edition software. I acquired affinity about a year ago. I am happy with the program. With the latest update, I can't export to jpeg. (Only after some adjustment to the photography.) When I try to export, The CPU reaches 100%, and affinity does not respond stays frozen with the export bar for minutes. It didn't happen to me before. I did various tests, including uninstalling and installing. Also look in my files for photos previously edited and exported to jpg. And select the Affinity file to test if I could export it, since I already did it months ago. But this time it doesn't work. It only happens to me since the last update.
  6. I am somewhat new to affinity but not photo programs, I was trying to batch some Cr2 RAW from canon to jpeg for facebook uploads, when i go to create the macro all I am doing is sharpening, I would loved to create the presets or macro in the persona ? and not have to go into develop just to do that, maybe I'm missing something, these are just quick changes nothing super important. I open the RAW and exposure looks good just needs a tad sharpening....however after the batch they are 1-2 stops darker, i can't hardly judge batching them from the develop to the batch for the macro original and batched attached I just don't understand why or what I am missing, well i'd upload the files but i get an error 200 so here is a couple screen grabs you can see the difference in the brightness but like i mentioned all I'm doing is batch converting to jpeg and a sharpening, even if i don't do the sharpen it still makes them darker
  7. Hello, I am a new user. Working on my first photo and when I export a jpeg using the "Best Quality" preset, my image has these strange large pixelations that are not present in the original. It is also happening when I export a Tiff. However, pdf export correctly. Files are attached. I am working from a RAW photo taken on Sony A7s. Help would be greatly appreciated. I am thrilled with the app so far aside from this hiccup. Hanalei Pier.tiff Hanalei_Pier.pdf
  8. 1) Photos have been imported from Ricoh GRii to iPhoto. 2) On Ricoh's, when you shoot JPEG+RAW in black and white, the JPEG will be black and white but the RAW will always be in color. 3) From there I am attempting to import a black and white photo to Affinity. When viewing the photo library to select which photo I want to import, the black and white photo appears black and white and there is the RAW icon in the bottom right the photo. 4) I then import the photo but it will only appear as the color RAW version. 5) How do I import the JPEG instead of the RAW?
  9. Im experiencing the weirdest issue: When I go to export my Affinity Photo file (Aprox. 33mb), and I select Jpeg, at 85% quality with no dimensional changes 600px X 1200px at 72 dpi, Im getting massive files. 88mb jpegs! That is insane. I have never had this issue with AP. I cant image what is creating this phenomenon. If I then open this jpeg and flatten it, the file size goes back to what you would expect. (300 k) I was under the impression that Jpeg have no layers and are flat by definition. What is going on here? Any suggestions?
  10. I need help! Everytime I do a batch job from RAW to JPG, Affinity saves all the new JPG's much darker than before! Can anyone help me to avoid that? Greetings
  11. Hi, Just found out about this software and wanted to know if Affinity Photo software has a tool like Photoshop's Camera Raw Filter that works on jpegs. much thanks Darren
  12. Hi all, I created a shape using eight square 10X10 symbols. I used the grid view and snapped the squares into a 10px spacing grid. Now I notice that when I turn the grid off, there are grid lines around the squares. The grid lines disappear when viewing the document at 1000%. When I export as JPEG, I can see the grid lines. There is no stroke around the symbol, but if I add a stroke, the grid lines seem to disappear. I'd rather not add a stroke unless I need to. And, I'd like to use squares instead of rectangles. Is there a setting I'm unaware of that I should select to remove the grid lines, or is this a bug that hasn't been resolved yet? My file is attached. Thanks for your help. gridlines.afdesign
  13. On Affinity Photo I want to export an entire black image to a 3x3 square of slices. As this square is bigger than original image, 8 exported slices but the center's one have extra pixels. When I exported slices, these extra pixels are white. I want them to be black. I tried many tricks without success: change background color of image, add a square below the image and fill it with black... No success. Extra pixels are always white. Is there a way to achieve this goal? Original image Mosaic of slices Slices As you can see, extra background is white. Top left slice
  14. Is there a way to do a side by side compare of JPEG exports between original and reduced size? Photoshop has this feature when exporting an image for web.
  15. I am looking for a way to change a batch of Tiff files to JPEG. Help please?!
  16. I have some JPEG+RAW photos taken with my Fuji F600EXR camera. I was surprised tonight that when I processed the RAW version of one of the shots using Affinity Photo it was significantly larger physically than the JPEG version which the camera produced. Overall I felt that the quality of the image, once I tweaked it, was better than the camera generated JPEG, with better colours, but I was surprised at the extra "border" to the shot. Is this normal with RAW?
  17. Hi Folks, After some help again. I have a logo I am trying to export for me to use in a Wordpress site. I have created my document (1200 x 300px) with a transparent background selected. I created he logo (Basic white text) and then exported it as a Jpeg. When I then uploaded into Wordpress all i get is a white background colour. Any ideas or suggestions? Cheers Mark
  18. Windows uses special "XP Comment, XP Author, XP Keywords, XP Subject" fields (XP <name>) for presenting the associated information with the Windows File > Properties > Details presentation. After creating an Affinity Photo Exported JPEG file, the previous content of these fields disappear from presentation by Windows. Is there a way to preserve the use of these Windows "XP <name>" properties fields when a JPEG file is edited by Affinity Photo desktop and the image is Exported as a JPEG file (*.jpg)?
  19. How do you export Portrait Jpegs where you want one side to be a set size (for example 1080 pixels). I've used Lightroom and this is straightforward as it ignores the "Long" side, but when I tried it in Affinity Photo I got a squashed image. I would welcome any assistance
  20. How do I simply see what file type I’m working with? I import a raw image from Lightroom mobile. I want to make sure it’s not importing a jpeg copy but the original raw file. Should be very easy in the metadata but it’s not there.
  21. I recently learned about the new upcoming image format called the High Efficiency Image File Format (or HEIF), which was mentioned in the Windows Blog (https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2018/03/16/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-17123-for-fast/#OALyDY4AdhDIahYX.97). After looking into HEIF, I was wondering if Affinity was working on support for HEIF for Affinity Designer & Affinity Photo (or if support is already there). The initial impressions of HEIF look promising and might be an image format that can improve workflows. If you need details on HEIF, I've posted links below. 22. Hi all! I got a serious problem with some jpeg files after importing them. I tried to open a jpeg of a Corona sixpack (no promoting intended) in AP and this happens. Most parts of the photo are missing and the missing parts are transparent. Any ideas?? The issue is not present if I first open the jpeg in any other software and convert it to .png but I would really like to safe the time bc I work on thousands of photos... (sorry if a similar issue has already been posted and I missed it)
  23. Hello, confusion reigns. I am importing jpeg images from Olympus 16meg micro 4/3 camera to iPad using SD card adaptor and wirelessly using Cascable. When I view file size in iPad Photos using the app EXIF Wizard Pro it tell me they are about 2meg. In iPad files it tell me same file size 2meg. When I open these same JPEGs in Affinity and then export them the file size is 9meg, this is the file size I would expect. I have tried this with both raw and jpeg imports and jpeg only imports. Am I getting confused with thumbnail images and full resolution images when I query the file size? As mentioned I am getting 2meg file size in both Iphoto and in Files. is the image size being artificially increased when it is put into Affinity. is the app only giving me the size of the thumbnail and Affinity automatically open full resolution image? any thoughts greatly appreciated. David
  24. Hello Affinity Support, Do you have an update on the jpeg embed metadata problem or a upcoming fix, as I really need metadata in my jpegs as a use D.A.M and losing metadata is really a BIG problem and lots of afp/afd users have commented on this bug. Are there other export formats I can use that will not suffer the problem. Regards Chris
  25. I'm having a problem with Photo adding a white border when I batch-process converting Affinity files to JPG. This doesn't happen when I export individual files using the file menu. Am I missing a setting in the batch job dialogue that would stop this happening?
