  1. would be very useful if program can import and export 2D CAD.
  2. I can open psd docs that have masks in AD just fine and the masks are intact (first screenshot). And you can see there is more image that is being clipped from the bounding box surrounding the Pepsi bottle. But then if I export it from AD back to PSD format (with either option available-preserve accuracy, or preserve editability), then when I open it in PS the masks get whacked off (other screenshot). Clearly this cannot be if we need these files to be opened by PS users.
  3. Is there a way to import all the art boards in an .AI file instead of just the first one? Or at least be able to choose which art board to import?
  4. Importing, using/moving/rotating/scaling, rendering and rastering .obj files (and in general 3D objects created in Maya or similar). This's the only real reason I can't leave Photoshop behind in favor of AffinityPhoto as of now. Thanks.
  5. Hi, Really love AD and AP, have been using both since Beta. But have been having some issues with export functionality in AD: I work with a designer who sent me a PSD, which I opened and extracted elements to build a website with. One of the elements was a Smart Vector object, a simple line. But I can't extract the item as a vector, AD and AP both rasterise the object. My goal is to create an SVG for my website. Is this a known issue? Thanks Ben vector smart object.svg
  6. From the link in the How to rotate the tip of a (Arrow) Brush question I downloaded Ronnies Arrow Brush set. Not realizing it was a vector brush set, I foolishly tried to import into Affinity Photo ... 4 times. Each time, I got a notice saying two brushes were added to a new numbered 'Ronnies' set, 1 through 4, but of course as I now understand those sets did not show up in the AP brush panel because they are vector brushes. I tried resetting brushes after the third attempt, but on the forth one I got the same notice with the #4 suffix in the set name, which I guess means the app is somehow remembering the previous import attempts & maybe has imported the brushes somewhere. So my question is how do I get AP to forget all about these vector brush sets & remove them if they have been saved in the app?
  7. I have taken a crisp screen shot for a tutorial and want to edit it in Affinity Designer. But when I open the png in Affinity the image quality is noticeably degraded. If I upload straight to Wordpress the quality is even worse. The image size is 963 × 843 and the width of the area I'm placing it on my blog is 780. (If I resize the image down to 780 and upload to WP the quality is worse than leaving it at 963 ???) I don't understand why both Affinity and WP are degrading the quality of the image. I've attached a screen shot of the original image open in Preview next to the same image opened in Affinity (however screen grabbing this example shows a bit lower quality than I'm seeing in real life (why???) - but it's still good enough to show the quality loss in Affinity vs the original.
  8. I am working in natural sciences (biology), and use vector graphics in generating figures for publication. This often includes importing graphics generated by other software (often in pdf format), improving these for publication, and assembling different graphics into figures. I have replaced AI with Affinity Designer for the last six months. However, a recurring problem for me is that AD is not able to recognise text in my pdf files properly. Single text objects are combined or grouped into a single layer. In my attached file, the two lowermost text objects have been correctly imported as individual layers, probably because they are separated from other text objects. The other text objects have been grouped. This is a serious problem for me. Often it is easiest for me to remove all imported text rather than trying to modify the grouped text. I have tried to uncheck "Favour editable text over fidelity", without seeing any change. An older version of AI has no problems identifying each text object as individual layers. I'll be grateful for any suggestions! Tree pdf import.afdesign
  9. What is the best way to import CDR files? I do have Adobe Illustrator (or a friend/colleague has it).
  10. Hi, There seems to be a bug when importing this SVG file: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f6/Hurd-logo.svg Expected result: Result from Affinity Designer: Cheers, Wojtek
  11. Replicate: 1. Import PDF with fonts that are not in the system 2. In the "replacement" section start typing name of the font to replace missing font to 3. List doesn't react to it at all.
  12. Hi, I am trying out affinity Designer on the mac, and so far I loved it. I am facing one problem, which is importing illustrator files exported from rhinoceros 3D. Rhino 3D is a CAD software than can export to .ai files. however, when I try to open the .ai file in Affinity Designer I get the following error message: " Failed to open PDF file, the file could not be parsed". It is weird that the file is recognized as a pdf file although it is a .ai (illustrator file). When opening the exported rhino .ai file in illustrator, it does open but the file name is changed from *.ai to *.ai[converted]. I would rely like to use the affinity designer more, but since I deal a lot with files exported from rhino, this problem is not allowing me to depend on affinity Designer rather than illustrator. Regards,
  13. Try this workflow: Open a jpg image from Adobe Bridge or any other program via Open With... Affinity Designer. Or simply drag and drop a texture on Affinity Designer Your image is imported on a pixel background layer. Cut cmd x this image Paste into another Affinity Designer file that you have open alongside The layer will be stuck at x0 y0 and there is no way to move it. NO WAY. There is also no way to delete it (the trash can icon does not work when you select the layer) I thought that somehow the image being imported as background layer might be a problem. In the original file I can move it around. This completely breaks my workflow, I need a second monitor and drag and drop functionality for textures. I would like to file for a refund, is it possible?
  14. I'm migrating some work from MS Publisher to Affinity Designer. I'm wondering what is considered "best practice" for this task. I understand from the in-app help that AD supports opening the file types listed below, but I'm not clear on the advantages / disadvantages of the types that are beyond "flat images" (eg: tiff, bmp, gif, jpeg). So my question is: what MS Publisher output files will provide the most utility for an AD file import? Is .pdf the only legit choice? Thanks.
  15. Hi all, does anyone have a clue why the raster parts of this pdf get pixelated so badly when I import it into Affinity Designer? Thanks! hubobaffinity_example.pdfpdf_import.tiff
  16. A newbie here, in fact I'm not very experienced with vector drawing at all. However over the last couple of years I've managed quite a few object drawings in EazyDraw. In fact I have more than a few and now I want to switch to Affinity Designer, so can anyone please tell me how to import EZdraw files into Affinity Designer?
  17. Hello guys. I would like to ask few questions regarding PSD import / export from Photoshop to Affinity and back. I use Photoshop CS6 in my PC and I have a plan to use Affinity Designer (or Photo later) to do comic book lettering. I use just few tools in PS like Shapes, Paths and Text layers, with some of blending options like Stroke, Drop shadow, Colour and gradient fill. I created one PSD file in PS containing layers with ballons and text for testing how it will be opened in Affinity Designer - option: Favour editable text over fidelity. Well, it looks quite good, but there are still some small issues. I create ballons as elipse (Shape tool) with the tail (Path) as non-destructive combination. AD export this combination as dectructed shape with no possibility to edit ellipse and tail indepently. Yes, still editable as curves but non destructive combinations from PS are gone. Is there something I can do in PS and/or AD to be able import connected shapes correctly? When I create ballon in AD as non desctuctive compound of Ellipse and curve, export it as PSD, then it is opened in PS as 3 layers (with clipping mask?) but the curve is not combined with the ellipsis as in AD. They look like separated shapes. Text layers are imported to AD as editable text, but some of settings are not the same e.g. I am missing “optical” kerning. Would it be possible to get this option in the future? When I export PSD from AD and open it in PS the text layers are rasterised and they are not editable anymore. Would it be possible to get this option in the future? Gradient fill of the Shape is imported/exported correctly but gradient fill as "blending option" of the layer tis imported to AD correctly but in export from AD to PS it is changed to simple colour. Some of my clients are quite OK to get flat 1 layer TIFF or high quality JPG, so there will be no issue. But some of them reqest to have editable PSD to be able do some minor changes by themslef (ususally text correction) if needed. They works with Adobe stuff on PCs so obviously I cannot push them to switch to Affinity’s products and Apple hardware. There are screenshots of my lettering test in Affinity Designer and Photoshop. Original file created in Photoshop: PSD opened in Affinity Designer: and PSD exported from AD and opened back in Photoshop:
  18. Would love to give Designer another shot, but I use sublayers in my AI files for mainly organizational purposes. When importing .ai file into Designer it brings in layers, but the sublayers are gone, so all the "insides" of the layers (hundreds of items) are all flat in the parent layers. Attached screenshots of a piece of my AI files layers and what I get in Designer.
  19. Hi all, I've taken a PSD file (exported from CS6) and imported it into Affinity Photo. Although the import worked fine and all layers/groups are as expected, I've found all layers that had the drop shadow layer effect applied from Photoshop have had the effect merged into the layer in Affinity Photo. So I can't remove or edit the layer effect. This is the only layer effect that the PSD uses so I can't tell if it would do this for all layer effects or if it's specific to drop shadow. Is this meant to happen or is there a way I can prevent it from flattening the layer in future imports? Thanks.
  20. I've attached an affinity designer file and a .png file that I am trying to insert by dragging it in. Each time I drag the .png file into affinity with this designer file open, the application crashes. Edit: it's not only when I drag the file in. Just opening the png file in either designer or photo causes trouble. I was able to import it to designer using the "place" command but the graphics didn't display correctly after import. And I found a workaround: open the png file in GIMP, save it with a different filename, and then affinity imports without error. ICMC poster.afdesign
  21. I'm glad to find Affinity Designer. The most feature I want is Freehand File Import, for I'm a long time Freehand user and un-happy with AI. So I download the Trial version to try it. For the first try, AD is make me comport. Although not as same as Freehand's behaviour, I still feel good in it. But in the most important feature for me, “Open Freehand File” got a problem. After I open or place a Freehand file by AD, ALL text elements are gone. The graphic is OK, but text are just missing. I have thousands of Freehand file and looking for a alternate for me to use in a new Mac. (The old one I keep it in OS X 10.6.8 to use Freehand, but it is 8 years old already) AI CS5 can open Freehand but AI doesn't made me happy. I hopes AD can be my end of searching.
  22. Is there any way to scan a photograph and import the image with Affinity Photo? I am really wanting to remove the entire Photoshop program from my MacBook Pro, but unfortunately I need it to do a Twain import from time to time via scanner. Thanks for any help. If this is not a function of Affinity Photo now, perhaps the Affinity staff might take it for action? Danny
  23. If this had been asked before please accept my apology but, can I import my images from Aperture to Infinity Photo?
  24. Is it possible to support an exported file from Inkscape that miss these...? - Corner Radius (Can be solved by turning curve to outline object) - Masking is lost **About masking; the SVG file which export from Illustrator, masking is lost too, but .ai .eps still work.
  25. Hi, Does anyone know how to import brushes into AD? I've looked at posts here and followed the instructions (ie clicked corner menu & selected 'import brushes') but .abr & .eps files are greyed out and I can't import anything. Do I have a glitch? Hoping someone can help. Cheers, Hannah
