  1. Hi, Does anyone know of a tutorial around on creating image brushes?... One similar to the preset clothing zipper brush? I.e. as in the image supplied. I've had a hunt around for some help on this but no joy finding anything. Cheers guys, H
  2. I've created a logo where the dimension is supposed to be is 540 x 147. When I upload it to my website it is way bigger than those dimensions. I thought it was the platform I was uploading the image to but not I'm suspecting it's something with exporting. When I open the image (original file) in the web browser from my computer it is showing the same what's uploaded on my website. I'm not sure what's going on here. I thought the size what it's supposed to be is what I am seeing in designer when my zoom is at 100%. Any input would be appreciated!
  3. I've run into this error many times. Finally caught a screenshot to show. Scenario. Photo book, photo source is Lightroom. Resource Collection folder. In Lightroom I edit the photo and export it to the Collection folder. AFPUB notifies the user that the file has been modified outside the application. The second notice is "Failed to Open File, File Type is not Supported." The photo is not updated in AFPUB document (not replaced with the edited version). However, all you have to do is to "Replace Image" with the very same image (.JPG) and all is fine. So the problem is that the file type is, indeed, supported when you replace the image. The earlier versions of AFPUB would automatically notice the change and apply the newly edited photo into the AFPUB document. No user intervention when the image is Linked, and the preferences are set to "Automatically update linked resources when modified externally" This is no longer working as expected. Something about the File Type.
  4. When working with photos/images in Affinity Designer, (with Affinity Photo installed), there should be an easy way to launch Affinity Photo (or another chosen bitmap editor) from within Affinity Designer to edit bitmap images (beyond the photo editing capability integrated into Affinity Designer). This should be available both from the right mouse context menu and the context aware bar across the top when a bitmap image is selected. With such excellent Affinity application interoperability I am surprised this has not yet been implemented. This type of integration should also be incorporated into Affinity Publisher. Another possible interface enhancement, could be to (optionally - in preferences?) replace the Affinity Designer Pixel Persona with the Affinity Photo 'Photo Persona'. If this capability were implemented, it would still be useful to include the ability to launch Affinity Photo as a bitmap editor from within Affinity Designer, as Affinity Photo provides further capability (i.e. Liquify Persona and Tone Mapping Persona). I would love the integration of the Affinity Photo 'Photo Persona' with Affinity Designer when editing bitmap images within Affinity Designer. (Considering how these applications are designed I wouldn't be shocked if such integration were technically feasible.)
  5. Suggestion that the Image Properties Scale to Max Fit actually choose in which dimension the image fits into the Picture Frame and then fit the picture into the frame in that dimension. Often the scale is performed correctly, but currently, the image often ends up partially "out of the picture" and partly invisible and partly in the Picture Frame. The result is that the user must often grab the image center and move it manually into position in that (one) dimension. Often that is all that needs to be done. In some cases one might have to resize and reposition. Three screen shots - one after scaling to max fit and the other after manually dragging the image into the center of the frame, and the third is the original image from the source document (it's just a tad wider). Oh, and just to note, in some cases, the "scale to max fit" to fix the image actually comes out larger in both x and y dimensions than the frame - but that's rare. I haven't been able to capture a screen shot of that yet. And here is a little background. I have two documents open - a source and a target. The images from the source page are copied and pasted to the target as a "group" - then the group has to be moved to a page and made somewhat centered by locking the aspect/relationships and dragging one corner of the group inward to fit a smaller page. During this action (making the group fit a smaller page), any source images that are not already marked with "scale to max fit" will be dragged out of their frames instead of staying intact within their frames (first screen shot shows this). This is why the target images sometimes need to be reset to 'scale to max fit' and centered into their frames. I'm making this a feature request/suggestion, but it may fall into the "bug" category...
  6. See screen shot. I have a background image on the spread. The printer advised to expand the image into the full Bleed so as not to risk some "white" unprinted edges when the bleed is trimmed off. Printer indicated a risk factor of about 1/16th of an inch. In this case, the image Opacity is set to 30%, but it comes out 100% in the bleed. I think this needs to be repaired - if the printer is off in the trimming, you would see the 30% image in the center of a page, but at the edge the risk is that you would see the image at 100%. This becomes even more important for the cover since there may be a wraparound and you wouldn't want the image to suddenly change opacity as it wraps around the cover edge. If opacity is not used, then the entire full bleed image is fine at 100%. Fortunately, if you export to a PDF, this appears to be only a visual, cosmetic problem. That is, what you see in AFPUB is not what you get when you export. The exported spread does not show a 100% opacity in the bleed area - in my case it is the specified 30%. I do not know if the export to other formats would follow suit. So, maybe not so critical, but it could cause confusion for users to see the difference in opacity in the bleed. Second screen shot is a PDF export.
  7. I seem to be going round in circles in trying to resolve this issue, so please help me if you can. I have an image that I want to crop at a diagonal (see attached image). It would seem that the Add/Subtract/etc. functions only work when it is two shapes that are being worked on, not a shape and an image - at least, when I try to do this, they are all greyed-out except for the Divide function (which doesn't appear to do anything). I have tried using a jpeg image, but have also converted that image to an eps and an svg, all with no luck. Am I doing something wrong, or asking AD to do something it can't - and, if that is the case, what can I do as an alternative? Is there a function in AP that would allow me to do this? I want to overlay the resulting, cropped, image onto an artist's impression. Any input would be much appreciated. Shape from image.afdesign
  8. Hi, sorry if I posted this to a wrong forum, but I wasn't able to find any other forum that would suit following: there is probably something wrong with avatar uploads, I'm attempting to upload a valid avatar (file size and format fits the requirement), however I'm getting following error: https://imgur.com/a/KbgBcei So that's what I'm doing. Now when I attempted to post a screenshot of the message, I've found that I can't upload attachments to my forum messages as well. Both images were exported to jpeg from current production version of Affinity Photo. Thanks for your feedback.
  9. Hi, Hope all are well. I am a new Affinity Designer, trying to get familiar with all that Affinity has to offer for design and the likes... So here is my question, I am seeking to see how I can keep the image I uploaded in its original color, everytime I import an image it changes to a greenish color, but I can't find a way to keep the original color of the picture/image. Any assistance with this would be appreciated a tons... Thanks...
  10. I want to shape the bottom edge of an image. In CorelDraw I would convert a placed image to curves and use the node tool to pick each bottom corner and move up to give me a curved bottom edge. Doing the same in Designer doesn't work. Selecting the node tool allows no selection at all. Where have I gone wrong?
  11. Is there a way to keep linked photos in Affinity Publisher sharp when exporting to PDF? This occurs because my document setup is set to 300 dpi but my images are screen captured using Microsoft Snip & Sketch at 72dpi. Is there a way to screen capture at 300 dpi?
  12. I am struggling to find the setting to remove the small crop icon on an image that is filled into a shape. The image is not visible as a second layer and the layer is ticked and not hidden
  13. Si all, how can i use the transparency tool on an image that has been rasterised? When you import images in affinity designer they are displayed as "image" in layer panel. But since you rasterize them, they are defined as "pixel". Is there a way to put "pixel" back into "image" in order to use transparency tool on them? Or is there a way to use transparency tool on pixel? Thanks ! Bento
  14. Text Wrapping doesn't work somehow with an image(image layer) exported by Affinity Photo. Rasterising it to a pixel layer or an image from another app works though. Also "Edit Wrap Outline" cause a crash. text wrapping.afpub
  15. Hello. I inserted an image in my layout and I wanted to wrap the text around it. Nothing happened, even setting the distance from it and reinserting the image. I resolved the issue converting the image into a path (is it normal?). In any case: when I click the "modify text wrap" button, affinity designer cashes. Thank you for the support and for the functionality of your apps! report.txt
  16. I'm not shure If this is the right place or if this was posted before... I usually use the "Picture Frame Rectangle Tool" to place images because I allways need image sections. In the previous betas (before 206) I could double-click on the image frame to get to the image layer and then use the resizing spots to focus and place the image in the frame. Now I have to choose the pointer from the little toolbar to chose the image. Was it intent to disable the double-click? I would be happy, if the double--click would come back. :-)
  17. A big wish on my part was if you have an image browser like Adobe bridge, this is something many photographers want, as you often have to batch edit many raw files, From a wedding, business shoots, advertising work, etc.
  18. Possibly related to the other bug, but when the images on a page takes forever to load (it still looks low-res blocky) and then I click ">" then the app crashes. This happens almost every single time, so with a document with lots of images, it takes forever to go through each page looking at things.
  19. Hello, I am using Mac OS 10.15.2. I use Publisher Desktop version. When I want to place an image into a picture frame, the programme is crashed and quit. I tried it on another Macbook which is running Mac OS 10.14.5, same problem. The file size is very small only 1.6MB. Can anyone help to solve this problem? Thank you!
  20. So I've clipped an image with a shape. (Don't know for sure if it's called 'clipping'). I'm not able to select the image anymore. For example, I like to enlarge and rotate the image. How can I do this? See screenshot attached. Currently, when I select the image, the image AND clipping shape are selected.
  21. I am using Affinity to create card games or other cards, and with the way a number of programs and game websites handle file names I was wanting to find a way to force Publisher to add leading zeros so that the files would be listed in the same order regardless of which site or program is looking at them. I couldn't see any settings to let me do that. Current Setup: FileName_1.png, FileName_2.png, FileName_20.png, FileName_21.png, etc What I'd like: FileName_001.png, FileName_002.png,..., FileName_197.png, etc
  22. Is there a way to resize an already cropped image in a Picture frame? In Indesign it is just holding ⌘-shift. In Publisher you'd expect just holding ⌘ would do it.
  23. This was far trickier than I first thought is was going to be (and the result isn't nearly as good as I hoped). I’ve only shared a low-res version as the high-res version is a mess. More experimentation with the various tools is much needed. If anyone has any tips for this kind of thing then please share them.
  24. Have we lost image opacity slider in 1.7.3 on MAC? When I select any image on the document the slider seems to.. well not be available to the tune of no actual slider handle?? It doesn't seem to matter if I select the picyure frame or the lower image layer? Rob
  25. When working on a document (150+ pages, with 300+ images), sometimes when I double click the pan/hand to zoom to full page all of my images disappear and then this happens on my cover page. See attachment. Each block on the image below is a part/section of another graphic in the document. The images in the document are fine. When I save and re-open then everything is correct.
