  1. Hello, I have a issue when copying files from and to Illustrator. When copying geometry from Ilustrator to Affinity Designer it reduces the scale. Example: 10 mm in AI > 2,4mm in Affinity Designer. When copying geometry from Affinity to Illustrator it reduces the size about 20 percent <<< solved by setting "copy as svg" in Affinity Someone has a solution? Thanks and best regards pseudox
  2. Hi, I'm new to Affinity Designer. As a graphic designer & illustrator I used Illustrator -- for over 10+ years -- to create all my files. Now I need to open or import old LAYERED AI files with Affinity. Is there any way of doing this? I have all my work in Illustrator and need to have access to all layers. When I open AI files it only takes the active layer, dismissing all others. Please help! Thanks a bunch :-) Elena
  3. Hey, So I just bought Affinity Designer for Windows, and noticed when importing some of my old Illustrator files, that Affinity doesn't import the vector objects that exist outside the page area set in the Illustrator file (I usually place work in progress objects outside the page bounds)... I was wondering, how hard it would be to enable support for importing these out of bounds objects? If Affinity Designer doesn't support off page objects, maybe add a check box on the open window which ignores the original documents page dimensions and sets it to all the available content, not just what's on the page. That way the data is still accessible and not lost after I no longer have access to Illustrator. Cheers, Mark
  4. Please forgive if I'm jumping any guns here, but I'd like to share my thoughts with you. I'm sick of the Adobe subscription model; I've jumped ship back to Quark, and wish to use Designer instead of Illustrator. However... 1) I suspect I'm not alone in using Autotrace nearly daily. This omission in Designer is a serious brake on my adopting it wholeheartedly. I've tried separate programmes, and they range from awful to ludicrously expensive. 2) When you are churning out production graphics daily, having simple commands for Select>Same Fill, and Select>Same Stroke etc. are massive timesavers. Not having these means I spend extra time clicking and grouping to get the same result. It's obvious from your latest book (superb, by the way) that you are looking at some pretty clever stuff, and Designer does it well. However, we daily Joes need the basics to be there, fast, and reliable. I'd appreciate your comments. (Not trying to be contentious, honestly!) Keep up the good work. N (Ooops, just spotted typo...!)
Merci Hello, How can you resize a group of objects on a percentage scale. Example: Objects of 100 mm x 100 mm resize to scale at 99.814% on X and 100% on Y. Important for working in a printing house. Thank you
  6. Hello, I'm new here, have been waiting for the beta to come on Windows and pretty happy you guys did it ! In my job as a motion designer i use a lot of Ps and Ai before animating stuff, and I was testing compatibility between softwares to see if I could make the move to Affinity Designer . So far I have only one problem:loosing my layers when exporting as .eps. Is there a way to fix that ? I usually really need to keep my images split in multiple layer before animating, and that's something a .ai file enables me to do. Thanks !
  7. Hey, I'm looking for a way to create patterns easily, but it seems a little complicated to step-and-repeat, then mask and mask again to create a pattern. And what if I create a bigger object that the pattern? Is there plans to make a similar tool like Illustrator, where you simply create one object and the tool show the pattern surrounding and how it comes together?
  8. Hello, I have two questions on guides. 1. Why don't my guides saved to my Illustrator document work in Designer? I can create new guides but the ones from my AI files doesn't work. None of them seem to get imported, which is strange because Designer works otherwise very well with my AI files. 2. How do I export/import guides from one Designer project to another? Thanks, B
  9. Hello guys, I'm a new user and i wanted to know if it's possible to work on Affinity with .ai files ? It seems impossible but maybe there is a converter (from .ai to .afdesign) which allowed me to do it . Thanks a lot ^_^ ^_^
  10. Hey! I wasn't entirely sure if this went here, or feature requests, but I'll give it a go: I'm required to deliver work in .ai format, but I absolutely prefer using Designer as my main tool. However, whenever I attempt to import work with gradients in it into illustrator, it becomes rasterized. I'm not sure this is something you/Affinity can do anything about, but it really slows down my work flow when I have to remove all gradients and reapply them in illustrator, in order to use Affinity Designer for the work i need. Attached two files: One view of an object with a gradient in Affinity (tried with app store version and the current beta) and view of illustrator. Top leaf saved in Designer as EPS and "placed," bottom leaf copied and pasted. The square to the left is the raster image added within a clipping path that happens (see the layer panel.) Worth a shot! :) Let me know if I'm being impossible!
  11. I'm running into a problem opening Illustrator files directly exported from GIS (Geographic Information Systems). When opened directly in Designer or Photo, I get a blank canvas void of any layers, curves, images etc. If I open the same file in Illustrator first then re-save, I can open that new file will all the elements just fine in Designer. Am I missing something? Anyone else with experience with GIS files?
  12. Hi, the one major feature I use regularly that stops me from using Affinity Designer as a replacement for Illustrator is better selection tools. In particular I use the Select > Same functions all the time (Scientific Illustrations and graphs): I didn't see this on the roadmap or regularly requested features, so ask here. Thanks.
  13. I have file that was made in (of course) illustrator with some graphics. When I open in AD, they are literally slices with Curves adjustments - Open in Illustrator and click the graphics I want copy for pasting in AP and after a couple clicks, I can Select the group of graphics. Anyways. Thoughts? Also last thing. Here is what Illustrate says about slices when I open the EPS in Illi.
  14. Hello, I'm new to the forum so apologies if this question has been asked before. Anyway, I now and then create vector stock images and this is the first time I've done the work with Affinity Designer, mainly because I cannot stand Adobe Illustrator. But the problem is that stock agencies usually demand you send them Illustrator compatible eps files. Therefor I always check the final art in Illustrator. When importing the eps (and pdf) files I created with Affinity, I noticed that the gradient fills have been rasterized to bitmaps (this is a usual phenomena with other programs as well). Is there any workaround to import Affinity created files to Illustrator with the gradients intact. They are simple two color gradients, nothing fancy. It doesn't have to be eps or pdf, anything will do, as I can save them as eps in Illustrator after I have checked that everything is OK. The only solution so far is to create the gradients in Illustrator. -Paul
  15. Hi, I have been using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS2 for several years without issue but I am looking to change over to Affinity Designer as I have several new devices that are no longer compatible with CS2. I have been really impressed by Affinity Designer and it appears it can do all the things I'm looking for, so I'm planning on buying it :) However, all my previous files I have made with Illustrator I have saved as EPS files and when I open these in Affinity Designer it looks like only the layer that was visible at time of saving is displayed. It appears the same if I save the file as an AI file. I re-saved the file in Illustrator with all the layers displayed but when I opened this file in Affinity Designer it only showed a single layer and although it looks like all the content is present under this layer it's not the same layer organisation as when I open it in Illustrator. Is anyone able to suggest what I can do to make my existing EPS files more manageable in Affinity Designer? Layers in Illustrator: Layers in Affinity:
  16. Hi. I made simple art in Designer to try work with it, all looks ok. Exported to EPS and getting rejection on Shutterstock "Clipping Mask Issue -- Please apply clipping mask or edit EPS file to match JPEG crop.". Ok, I opened the file in Illustrator and saw that clipping mask is absolutely not the same what I can see in Designer. . . And what should I do here? I can't understand it by myself. How can I show this small area in Designer and increase it, and crop all geometry that is away of the screen??? I am tied trying to use your software in work. Terrible export in all of your products.
  17. Hey guys, I did a design job the other day and was asked which companies used Affinity Designer. It would be interesting to know which companies have switched over completely from illustrator. I know that there is one in Portugal that has made the switch completely. Its still very early days for Affinity but i think its going to go far :) I love it
  18. Since I have thousands of complex map files created in Illustrator, the fact that I can bring these into AD is really great. However, when I drop my Illustrator texts into and AD doc I find that often they come up as individual SVG letters. If the text is on a curved line, the line appears as a curve in AD and every letter is an SVG, usually are aligned correctly. This is no doubt the easiest way of programing such an import, but it leaves the AD in a state great editing difficulty. I would add that even when I adjust imported graphic objects from Illustrator and then enlarge them in AD, when I copy that AD edited object and paste it in a different doc, it appears to keep the original Illustrator size. I appreciate the challenge of reflecting Illustrator work with the same structure in AD, especially with Adobe's complex way of doing things. Is there any post or doc that explains these importing problems, i.e., what the user should beware of or expect when important docs from Illustrator. Thanks!
  19. I've recently started trying to use Affinity Designer and have run into a small issue. When I try to open an older Illustrator CS5.5 document with Affinity Designer, it doesn't bring in the layers. Is there any way to preserve layers from an Illustrator document?
  20. Hi, I have an artwork originally created in Illustrator. Now I want to continue using it in AD, and on opening the file I saw the stroke was 1 pt, which was too fat. So I thought about reducing the strokes by selecting all and then go to stroke and set it to 0.7 pt. Which – at least on my machine – didn't work. So I had to select each line exclusively, resize stroke weight and than select the next line. Is there a quicker solution? Next change I'd like to realize is stroke style. Again, a repeating task, my goal is to set all strokes to the attached kind of style. Is there a way to create stroke styles that I then can apply to selected pieces of my art work? runtavomberg.ai
  21. Hello, I'm really interested in Affinity Designer, but the one thing holding me back is that I'm not sure if it has something similar to Adobe Illustrator's "Shape Builder Tool" the one that lets you manually combine shapes together or delete parts of them, I hope there is one.
Herzlichen Dank! Viele Grüße und ein gutes neues Jahr! Newstone --- translated with google translator: Hi, I have received a couple of AI files, in which vector brush are included. When I open the file with Affinity designers, these are not displayed. I suspect that brush embedded in AI files are not yet supported by Affinity designer and would like to see this support. Many thanks! Greetings and a Happy New Year! Newstone
  23. I can open AI files in Affinity Design, but I cannot seem to edit them except gross resizing of the entire image or individual parts. How do I get at the control points for editing?
  24. I have an Adobe Illustrator file with several hundred layers. These layers are meticulously organized and arranged into many subgroups. When I open Illustrator files into Affinity Designer, none of the subgroups are present. Just a massive flat list of all the layers. This makes using Affinity Designer effectively useless because the time it would take to re-group everything is entirely prohibitive. Have I missed something?
  25. Hello. I want to change the colours of this drawing and more specifically I want to make the lifework white and the background blue, light blue, red etc from top to bottom. Which app should I use? Affinity designer or Photo? What would be the optimal procedure? Antikythera mechanism final.pdf
