  1. On the A.I. file, you can see in the above menu that the text stroke is 4 pt. Over to the right, in the Layers, column, you see only the selected text block. (There are NO outlines...) After importing the ai file into Affinity Designer, everything "looks" fine, however the STROKE border has been eliminated from the Text itself, and has been converted into separate outlines for each letter. Look at the Layers column and you will see that I have selected the text, "Hagia Sophia" (blue highlight). You will also see that stroke width is 0 pt (not 4 pt.) Above the text selection are separate outlines for each letter of that text. Those are the "strokes" that have been removed from the text and converted to outlines. (See more below...) To demonstrate what I mean, I toggled off the visibility of the Text, and you can see that what is left are the outlines that have been converted from the original text. When I click on the outlines, voila!, there we see the 4 pt stroke in the stroke column to the right. The current way you do it would be okay if all I never wanted to revise the image but that, of course, is why I would import my ai files into Designer . . . so that I can revise them. Even on this simple grahic image, it took quite awhile to revise the text. It seems that you already can translate the stroke values from the original ai file so, rather than creating a new outline for each letter, couldn't you add the stroke value to the text of the converted Designer file? Thank you for hearing me out.
  2. I'm working in affinity for last 6 months now and I despise Illustrator. I can't stop talking about how anti-intuitive is Illustrator. But they have an undoubtedly nice feature called package. It saves the raw file, the fonts involved and other things plus a report in a folder. Can we do the same in Affinity somehow? That report document is very important when we work for clients or with other designers to know what kind of colour space and font and etc etc was used on the specific project.
  3. Hi, This must have been already discussed, but I couldn't find where : When I import an illustrator file with multiple artboards, I can't manage to choose the one I want to place. Is there a way to do that ? Thanks.
  4. Importing a PDF or (the same file as) AI-File with some gradients bring a very disturbed result. Also the exported PDF looks like the preview on the screen. See attached screenshot. If I resave the .AI as EPS and import this to AP 1.7.0.293, the preview on the screen isnt very nice but close on the original - the exported PDF looks like it should. If someone of serif needs the .ai, please PM or answer on this thread.
  5. I have been using Adobe Illustrator exclusively for years in my design process and have recently begun to use Affinity Designer. Unfortunately, this means that most of my design pieces are in the .ai format. Is there a way to bring these over to a .afdesign format while preserving all of me design aspects?
  6. When I open an illustrator file in affinity publisher beta on my mac, the effects added to objects (drop shadows, etc.) in illustrator are not showing in the publisher beta. Is this by design? Is there a way to get the effects to show up in publisher beta when opening an illustrator file?
  7. I am considering switching from Adobe. I run my own graphic design business and currently use Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator daily. Would the Affinity products be sufficient and would I be able to open / import PSD, INDD and AI files into this software?
  8. In this video, we have shown how to export EPS files in the Affinity Designer for Coreldraw and Illustrator.
  9. I have Illustrator CS3 documents where I have work/designs off on the pasteboard (canvas). Is there a way to get to this work/designs when I open them in ADesigner? I realize this is quite the app version jump. Normally I'd just open Illustrator and adjust all those documents so I can see everything in ADesigner, however, due to crappy circumstances I cannot open Illustrator.

  11. If you have any good idea for better way please write it! and which you choose of 3 examples. I prefer 3 the brown logo
  12. I am not sure if this is the right place for my post. I started doing design work with Photoshop and Freehand and later, when Adobe first bought and subsequently killed Freehand, with Illustrator. A few months ago I played around with Designer and Photo on both, an iMac and an iPad, and liked the experience. Most of all I liked that finally someone tried to come up with an alternative to Adobe. Sadly, since I decided to try and do a real paying design job on an iPad Pro using Designer and Photo my experience has been quite frustrating. Rather than doing actual design I had to search forums for the most basic (in my opion) features. Changing units from pt to mm? “Resize” in my opinion is a quite unlikely spot. Want pagerulers? No, this feature hasn’t made its way to the iPad yet. I am aware that I am surely stuck in the Adobe logic of where I expect to find certain functions and tools and how I expect them to operate but I am most certainly not the only one. As things stand right now with every step I want to make design wise I have to expect it to either not work or only after a considerable amount of time in the forums, this, simply, isn’t an option and step by step it takes me closer to goodbye Affinity and a sad hello Illustrator. In terms of actually asking something: - Rulers: really (really?) still not implemented in both iPad apps? - Guides: is there way to add guides to a specific artboard at a desired position without mathematical shenanigans? How can I edit and remove specific guides?
  13. Is there a way to open/import AI files that have objects out of bounds? Most of my Illustrator files have objects all over the place. When opening AI file in Designer what you see is only what's on the artboard and in my case it's most of the times nothing. So I have to open Illustrator, move objects and then open the file in Designer. Thank you.
  14. Hello everyone! My first work in Affinity Designer. This is calendar for company that i am work for. Title say "electronics you need" Below is history how its evolve Hope you like it
  15. I’m trying to find a workflow that allows me to go from Designer to Illustrator. Yes, yes, I know, but I still have to place work into the other on occasion. I would like to keep the results of the fx panel editable, but I realize that they might need to be rasterized if I want them to exist after the file transfer. Is there a preferred filetype/setup/practice for keeping the appearance of Designer files in Illustrator without absolutely everything winding up as path-masked raster images?
  16. There is a jubilee on Design Cuts. They sell a logo creation kit: Essential Branding & Identity Kit for Photoshop and Illustrator which says: there are also png files, that should work, I think. Maybe it is also a general question regarding Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS4 Thanks for help.
  17. Hi, I'm wondering why Affinity Photo and Designer are opening PDF file in different colour than I can see it on MacOS native Preview app? File is package print design I got from client in PDF format. I believe it has been made originally using Illustrator. When I open it in Designer I see extra red layer with blending mode multiply over graphic layer. Not sure what is it's purpose. Any idea what I'm dealing with? Best, Juha
  18. Hello! So, my question is basically, "what's the big jump/difference between AP and AD?". I know this question has already been asked and the short answer is: "AP for pixel and photo editing and AD for vector-based graphics and illustration." Here's my point: I've been using Photoshop and Illustrator for a while but I'm transitioning to Affinity, 'cause it's lovely. I've been doing social media posts that mix images and graphics (text, shapes, graphic elements, etc) since before the transition, and it was clear to me the point where PS and AI intersected. I could not do "organic" strokes with the pen tool on Photoshop, neither could I edit text as curves. I couldn't work smoothly with gradients, merge shapes with complex operations—like pathfinder—and the list goes on. Photoshop was pretty limited in vector managing, and Illustrator couldn't do pixel work. Fast forward, I open Affinity Photo and it's like I don't need a vector software anymore. Everything I'd need to open Illustrator for is inside Affinity's pixel-based editor. As if it's not enough, AD can handle pixel manipulation—though I didn't use it enough to know its limits. I've tested both AP and AD during the free trial and, after expiration, bought Photo. I'm considering buying Designer now because their workflow together is pretty amazing, but do I really need it? What can Designer do that Photo can't? I feel like I can take the pen tool on Photo and create any shape I'd want, applying colors effortlessly. Can someone enlight me? Thanks!
  19. I created some graphic in Affinity Designer and now I would like to send it to someone who uses Adobe Illustrator for further edit. How can I export file from Designer to preserve all objects, group, group/object names and etc.? I tried export PDF and EPS but it's a mess when opened in Adobe Illustrator. Please see screenshots. Is it even possible?
  20. I am of course very excited to get Affinity Designer into my workflow. But, there is the issue of round-tripping with Adobe. I know that Designer can output in many different formats. But can it output a file that is openable in Adobe illustrator? Is there that degree of backward compatibility if it is necessary?
  21. Hey Guys, I'm a fashion design student and I switched from Adobe Illustrator to Affinity Desginer. I don't want to use AD just for drawings but for technical drawings too. My problem: in Illustrator I had brushes for zippers and stitches. Everytime I drew a straight line I could change the brush into a zipper or a stitch but for AD there is nothing like this pre made brushes available (or haven't found it yet). So, is it possible that someone can explain me how I make this brushes in AD or it would be nice if someone do it for me I attached you the ad file with the pre made shapes This is how they look Thank you in advance Fashion Brushes.afdesign
  22. I am desperately trying to escape Adobe's stranglehold, and purchased Designer as an alternative to Illustrator. I create a lot of wine labels. The printer uses Illustrator for all its work, so the files I send need to be readable by Illustrator. I need to indicate where the the printers need to emboss, add silkscreen, foil, etc so I organize my AD file into layers. However when I export to PDF, and reopen the file in Illustrator, the entire structure is lost. I do see the layers preserved when I open the PDF in Acrobat however, so I find this confusing. Attached are screenshots of AD file, Acrobat view, and a couple in Illustrator showing the single layer will all the separate elements making the file unworkable. Also included is the original AD design file. Is this possible to achieve? LV_Cab_2016.afdesign
