  1. Does the .afdesign file have an icon like photoshop has? Or does it just use the programs icon?
  2. Hello, I'm trying to figure out the best way to design icons with Affinity Designer. At this point I've figured out that I should design my icons at @1x then export them in the sizes I want. But there's one question that remains. How is the best way to reuse an icon? For example: imagine if I'm designing a search icon with a little magnifying glass. This icon is intended to be of 40 points for both iOS and Android. Designed, exported, everything is fine. But now I want to reuse that icon in a larger one. Say, that it would be the same magnifying glass but on a piece of paper. And this icon is expected to be at least 2 times larger proportionally to the first one. I need to double the size of my magnifying glass. How would you do that? Can Symbols help in this regard? Because if I'm just taking my vector magnifying glass, copy it onto the next document, then try to augment its height and width, I'll get the good size but the strokes won't increase accordingly... And I don't see myself exporting the magnifying glass into pixels to reuse it on a vector document. Thanks a lot for your help, Clément
  3. How do I get all these icon shortcuts on the right side I've enclosed???
  4. I'm currently learning Affinity Designer and saw a tutorial for making some icons in Adobe Illustrator. I decided to try making some to use and learn different tools and processes. In the tutorial they show how to make a shadow of the icon by moving to the side and using 'Blend Options' to create many steps so that it looks like a continuous shadow and not a duplicate shape behind (In the hyperlinked tutorial on Icon 1, Step 5). Just a shape behind, not continuous. Continuous. What I'm trying to achieve. So basically, I am asking to see what is the best way to achieve this in Affinity designer? Is there a similar feature available to that in Illustrator?
  5. Hi I recently Started to convert my hand drawn icon set to affinity designer here is the first icon in the series. I will keep on updating this thread for further updates.
  6. The gradient tool is so much better than Illustrator (What I'm talking about...Designer infinitely superior Illustrator in every way). B) The Node Tool can be bothering sometime, but Designer can achieve a great effect easily. Behance All my work published on Behance are made with Designer or Photo, check them out as well!
  7. Q. Is there a way to increase the Icon Preview Thumbnail for each individual brush in the Brushes Palette? Reason: I have many brushes with subtle differences. I am a visual person and would like the ability to quickly pick the correct brush. Having the option to have a LARGE thumbnail vs. a tiny thumbnail and the 'stroke' preview. For example, many of my light flare brushes look exactly the same in the palette tiny thumbs and the 'stroke' preview is unnecessary for their application. thanks, Mars
  8. Hello everyone! I'd like to request a feature: When selecting View -> Toggle UI, all of the UI will be hidden, which can be really great. The only problem that I am running into sometimes: I don't know which tool I have currently selected. Could you please include an option to let the user show the tools window even when "Toogle UI" hides all the other UI? Or maybe even better: Just show the one icon of the tool that is currently selected. The confusion especially happens when you have to cycle through tools. For example, for the "Pixel tool", you have to press B twice for "Colour Replacement Brush Tool" three times and for "Smudge Brush Tool" four times. Personally, I run into this especially when I don't know which tool is currently selected. For example, the eraser (E) is selected, but I think the brush (B) is selected. Then, I press E to select the eraser. Then it doesn't select the eraser, but rather the background eraser. Best wishes, Shu
  9. Hi folks. I have been working with the beta for windows, and once it has gone on sale I bought it. Just a couple of things: In the layers panel there are a couple of icons that would be very useful, to solve with a click actions that are frequently used: - Duplicate layer. - Combine selected layers. On the other hand, some sliders, especially the exposure adjustment, and others, have a very abrupt increase in values in response to the mouse, its difficult to make small value changes with the mouse. And the response to the sliders is not homogeneous between different settings, nor between different modes of development (for example in Lightroom this answer is similar in all settings) I do not know if there is a way to adjust this as a user, otherwise you should throw it a look. Greetings, and keep up the great work!
  10. Hey guys, the holiday spirit got me and I experimented a little with new symbol palette in Designer. I thought maybe this will be useful for someone out there who’s creating last minute greeting cards, name-tags for presents or other related stuff – or just for fooling around. ;) Here’s an example, an inspirational little how-to clip plus the file. Snowflake Generator.afdesign Happy holidays and enjoy! :) Dennis

  12. Using the app's icon as the icon for every document is very confusing. Since it is so easy to implement, please have proper CFBundleTypeIconFiles.
  13. I've been watching lots of tutorials and playing around with Designer to get used to it. When I got to the video on Symbols in Designer 1.5, this concept leapt to mind, and so I made it. It makes use of Symbols, Artboards and the power of the Export Persona to simplify outputting all the required sizes for an iOS application icon. And of course designing the artwork in the first place is easy and fun with all the Designer tools at your disposal. This blog post explains how to use it and contains the download link.
  14. Hi Guys, Does Affinity do any kind of exports to .ico files? What's the best way to export icon designs? Thanks!
  15. Hi there guys, I have taken a pre-made template by a guy in PSD and converted it to Affinity Designer format, with embeded Icon in 1024 x 1024 which you just double click for editing. I took the idea for embeded editing from another template here for IOS (green tech I think? Thanks!). All credits listed in copyright of the file. To edit, just double click the massive icon and boom. Enjoy, Mart OSX.afdesign
  16. Hé guys and girls, I've been using Affinity Designer for icon design the last few weeks, such a nice tool. When I export these files to .png and use them in Sketch it's all working good. When I export them in 300 dpi (64x64) and use them in Indesign the icons are very blurry and setting the display quality to high doesn't do anything. Is there something I am doing wrong? Or do I have a preset setting wrong? There is a screenshot with it, the icon in indesign at 300 dpi at 100%.
  17. I just downloaded my trial version of Affinity, will there be an icon on my iPad pro, as if I downloaded an app? I am not seeing it at this point, but got the email that says I have started my free trial. I really want to learn this app as I know it will help me with my buisness
  18. Hi everyone, I made an icon template for Android apps. Hope you'll like it! android icon template.afdesign
  19. Hi everyone, I made an icon template for iOS apps. Will be glad to know what you think of this template. ios icon template.afdesign
  20. I used to design lots of icons in Photoshop a few years back and designed my first icon in AD over the past few days. It's great to work fully in vector, but multiple artboards will come in handy (when they arrive) to do variations and the different (smaller) sizes. Here's my take on a replacement icon for Subler.
  21. I'm working on web design a lot and I love Affinity Designer. This week I had to create an icon (favicon to be precise), which I obviously designed in Designer. So far so good, but there seem to be no way of exporting an image as *.ico. Are there any plans for adding support for ico files?
  22. Hi All, Trying to figure out how best to save the changes/settings after I've worked on a RAW file. I've looked in the Affinity Help and so far while looking in the Basic Develop Persona section I found mention of "Save Presets" and an icon associated with it. (see the screen shot attached). I've also found a mention in the forums of adding presets via the pull down menu above the Basic/Exposure settings (screen shot also attached) It's difficult finding specific topics in the built in help as some things are mentioned once but can not be used as search criteria to find out more info. Having used Photoshop previously I think some of the trouble is terminology and a bit of semantics, but it would be good to clear up what means what, and how you might be able to see changes after you save a Raw file as when I return to a changed and saved Raw/af.photo file the sliders are all back to zero, which is not what I'm used to using Photoshop. So, questions: 1. How does one see what changes have been made to a Raw file after adjustments have been made and the file saved and re-opened, as it seems on reopening all the sliders are zeroed and not showing the changes that had been made? 2. Where can the "Save Presets" icon shown in Affinity Help be found on screen or in which menu? 3. Is there an equivalent of an .xmp file created after adjusting a RAW file? 4. Do you have to "add preset" via the Basic pull down menu each time you want to save your adjusted settings to each and every file instead of it re-opening with the settings already done and showing on the sliders? 5. Is "adding" the same or equivalent of "saving" presets, or are they two separate things doing two different jobs? (tried to illustrate this with another screen shot) Think that covers it.
  23. After the recent popularity of my flat icon tutorial, I decided to start a tutorial series focusing on the principles of flat design. In this first tutorial, I focus on basic shapes and flat colors. As an example, I walk through how to make a flat iMac icon like I posted before. To view the tutorial, click here. Hope you like it!
