  1. Thank you for the 1.6 update. However, I am disappointed that basic drag and drop functionality is not available in the panorama, hdr merge, focus merge, stacking and other file selection dialogs. I usually have a finder window open and I can see the files I want to include in a stack or batch, but then I have to use the add files button and navigate (again) to that folder and select the files. Would love to just drag them from Finder onto the selection dialog list control. This should be a pretty basic code change. After all, drag and drop is coding 101 stuff and shouldn't cause knock on effects or regressions.
  2. It would be great, if I had the chance to see a preview of my HDR already in the window "New HDR Merge" where I'm choosing to remove or keep ghosts and several other settings.
  3. hi to all, i want to create a hdr photo, you can help me?
  4. On my last trip I shot a lot of HDR pictures. It's pretty tedious to merge each of them one after the other. Is there a way to do this automatically for a large number HDR merges?
  5. Anyone recommend using the Aurora HDR app on top of the hdr facility in Affinity photo. Thanks
  6. Hi. I'm new to Affinity Photo and has been testing it out for a few days now. One of the areas that interest me is the HDR merge, as it allows me to do picture with a colour quality and contrast range I haven't been able to before. I've been testing it as I usually do, that is to give it a nearly impossible task and see where it breaks. And sure enough, it has its limitations. Yesterday I went with my wife to the beach, and with semi-cloudy weather and a low evening sun reflecting in the water I saw it as a perfect opportunity to test HDR. With my wife whittling about with her own creative ideas, I tried to capture her and the surrounding sea as best as I can. Or the low flying swallows against he sun. The problem being of course that a Sony a6000 rattling away the best it could, couldn't possibly capture everything that moved about without causing Affinity Photo to get royally confused. In this environment, ghosting becomes a serious issue. Even when you let Affinity do aligning and ghost removal, and even when you turn on the "remove shadows" function. You need to turn on the clone brush tool, as advised in your fine tutorials, and go at it. The problem is you need to choose the right picture as your base and when all the movement in the picture makes Affinity Photo (hereby called AP) confused about what moves and what is still, the pictures aren't in sync. That's what makes the ghosting issue first hand, and that's what making it difficult to paint properly. Half the time you can't paint with one picture close to another, because the sync problem goes the wrong way and every time you get close to the edge, you get the edge before you really need it. (And the other side of the edge is too dark (or bright) to be painted with that picture.) I guess the proper solution would be more image recognition and morphing the images making up a merge to fit. But that would be difficult to do, computing wise. And I guess you would need the more manual approach anyway: To be able to sync up the pictures so they match. And being able to use masks to define what sync to make for that part of the picture. Not only would that make it possible to make well synced pictures in difficult conditions, even if it would mean a lot of manual work. It could serve as a base for a more automatic approach for morphing and syncing pictures. The ideal would of course be to have automatic routines define a sync you could later manually adjust, and this would be a roadmap towards that. I would also like to see menus such as "Open new HDR merge" use the settings last used instead of going back to defaults all the time. I want to at least try to remove ghosts automatically and see how it goes, but going directly into tone mapping is a complete goner for pictures like these. It needs to be clone painted first. And that's two clicks per picture that could be saved. More than that, I often experience crashes. Not being able to save in tone mapping mode is a risk I don't want to live with, but at least being able to save before going into tone mapping has saved me more than once. I just wish AP could remember the photos going into the merge when saving, as you sometimes want to do further editing with the clone brush. In other cases, pictures can cause AP to crash always, so you don't get much of a chance. Another thing that could be fixed is, I believe, with Windows only. AP does a lot of file reading, and with a proper UNIX system at the bottom, the system caches files in memory so that they don't have to be read from disk so often. Windows doesn't do this, or at least it does so very poorly. The result is, the processors constantly has to wait for disk reads. And with slow, old-fashioned disks such as mine, this cuts performance to half. If you, for the Windows version, could cache the files being read to memory, or at least not read them from disk that often, it would improve performance. For long running jobs, it would also be a help to do things in the background. That would mean you could work on another picture while the first were chugging along. Not something of major importance, but there it's said. As others have noted, it would also be nice to combine bracketing features such as HDR panoramas (often used as backgrounds for 3D rendered images), focus bracketed HDR pictures of landscapes, and of course focus bracketed HDR panoramas. (Anything more?)
  7. What would be really handy, until you bring out your own library/DAM module, would be able to 'pass 3 images (or possibly more) through to HDR Merge. I'm currently using Capture One and although I can pass 3 images through to Affinity for editing, I can't pass them into HDR Merge, unless I'm doing something stupid! Affinity HDR Merge requires that I open 3 files on the hard drive, which is a bit of a pain.
  8. Hi! I've tried to make HDR with HDR stack. Unfortunatelly, photos were taken on crowded place and option of ghost removing did not made any change: heads of people going downstairs are still deformed. Is it possible to define somehow that this part of photo (where the moving person is) shoud be considered just from one photo of a stack?
  9. Hello everyone, I realize 360 degree photos and wanted to know if it possible to have automate HDR work without having to make the request for each seen. The panoramic assembly technique is not good for 360. I just want to select all pictures and have each frames in HDR version and after that work an other software . Sorry for my English who is very poor.Hope You have understanding my request. Best regards Franck
  10. Is there a vision to have a HDR presets or 'looks" storein the future? Something like what Macphun does with selling presets for example and sell them on the Affinity site? I realized that making more presets to add to Photo is probably not high on the priority list, so that leaves a hole in the presets market for Affinity. Just curious.
  11. Hi there! I'm new to this forum, but I'm using Affinity Photo and Designer (Mac and now iPad) for some time. Finally we got the great iPad version of Affinity Photo. – I love it, thank you for this great product! :-) One of the most important Affinity Photo use cases on the iPad for me is, to import DNG files with lightning SD card reader on the go. This works well, but there's a limitation currently with merging HDR. Creating a new HDR merge does show the JPG but not the DNG files. Opening (DNG) files from 'Photos' does open the DNG file, but not if using the HDR merge function. Is this a know issue or how can I create HDR merges based on DNG files on the go? Sincerely creator
  12. Hello All, I'm trying to make a hdr image from a serie of raw hand taken images. Saddly i miss the de-ghosting option! I know it is in de mac version. Is this feature on the planning? Because it's now pretty useless. Hope for a fast reply. Greetz, Ron
  13. I have been using the Tone Map Persona to see what it does with a variety of pictures. I have also watched all the great AP videos on HDR and Raw Development more than once. For the most part, I like the results for both color and black and white, especially if I use the local contrast conservatively. I understand the benefits of using tone mapping for HDR images based on bracketed exposures. What I still don't understand is what is the difference between tone mapping a single image (starting from a Raw file) vs using various adjustment layers in both the Develop and Photo Persona. In other words, - Can I theoretically achieve the same results if I tinker with various adjustments than I would if I tone map a single image after doing some basic prep work in Develop first? - Can Tone mapping a single image be considered a kind of short-cut to get particular results faster than going the other route? - What are the trade-offs of using Tone Mapping (besides more noise) vs using the "traditional" workflow of Develop + Photo? - For which types of single images does Tone mapping work best and for which one it does not do as well? - Should I make different adjustments when I edit a single image in Raw, if my next step is tone mapping vs going directly into Photo persona? Any clarification on these questions would be most welcome. Thank you!
  14. Hi, finally the moment has come that I have to ask for your help. Untill now I have always managed not to take your time, but now I am simply stuck. I am trying to make an HDR using 3 perfectly aligned photos of different exposures... Ususally I have no problem in doing that but in this case the result is terribly "posterised". Below are the source photos, and two results - one with all merge options unchecked and one with all options checked (by options I mean "align" and "remove ghosts" etc.). Does anyone have any idea of what might be causing such behaviour?
  15. I've been away from the camera for some time now, but last night I decided to revisit a photo I had produced late last year. This was a 3-image HDR shot while vacationing in Northern California. Processed in A.Photo... I was just playing around with some settings, nothing too serious. I realized that I haven't had much time to play with the latest features in the app and I'm hoping to change that soon.
  16. It's nice that Affinity Photo has got such good support of the 32 floating point mode but it is somehow unfinished. There are particularly two things that I desperately miss: 1. The ability to show the 32 bit float color values in the info panel. How should we work accurately with 32 bit float values if they are displayed nowhere? All that I can see are the conventional RGB values from 0 - 255 but these are meaningless in 32 bit float. 32 bit float per definition contains color values below 0 (actually a bad thing) or above 1 (actually a good thing). 2. Please make the curves dialogue zoomable so we can also edit values that exceed the white point of 1. The values beyond the white point are in fact one of the main advantages of 32 bit float.
  17. Hi, I am a new user of Affinity Foto on iMac 27. I shot some pics to be treated with HDR (3 shots for one HDR +-2 stops). The first group of pics worked with Affinity was ok; for the second one the colors are fake. Can you please help me or give me some adivice? I attached the ok pic and the wrong shot taken only few seconds later. Thanks a lot
  18. My first attempt at using the HDR merge function in AP. I used three exposures: -1, 0 and +1 stop.
  19. HDR is good, but could be better. Please. Attached is an example of combination of five images (+/- 2 and 4, taken raw with Sony RX100V): hdr_affinity: as it comes out hdr_affinity_edited: with a little shadows/highlights (burns around the sun) hdr_lightroom: Lightroom's rather superior result Coupled with LR's better browse and lens corrections, it looks like I'm going to have to use it as a front end. Darn. I'm trying to get away from Adobe! (The forum won't let me upload RAW files. If you want me to put them somewhere you can get to them, please do let me know.)
  20. Hi dear community and support, I really like the HDR function of Affinity Photo for MAC. But now I need to convert about 40 HDR photos from 120 seperate photos. It would be very nice if there is a possibility to do this with batch processing... 1) take 3 following photos 2) HDR processing 3) image optimazing 4) save the HDR photo Could anybody tells me how to do this? Thanks so much. Greetings, Tobias
  21. Hi Guys Let's start by saying that I'm a newbie not just to HDR, but to Affinity Photo itself, so go easy on the sarcastic remarks. I have just tried out the HDR functionality by taking a tripod-mounted set of five exposures on my Sony A72, ranging from -2 to +2 stops. They were recorded as jpegs. Now in all the exposures, the sky has very little discernible tone, and in the +1 and +2 versions, none at all. When I create an HDR set, the sky is depicted not as a region of no tone, but more like a simulated picture of the northern lights, with successive bands of pale blue, lavender and white. Completely unusable. The likelihood is that I'm doing something wrong. The possibility is that HDR is failing to make something out of nothing. Anyone else had this experience?
  22. Hi guys, I'm a 3D artist and quite interested in buying Affinity Photo. But I want to know how does it perform and work with 32 bit images like HDR and EXR. This is a huge weakness in PS and I hope AP can fulfill this gap for me. So, here are my questions: -Can AP create layers, blending modes, apply filters, masks and whatever I can do with standard 8bit images, so I can work non-destructively? -Is there any tone mapping tool in AP? Something on the lines of Camera Raw in PS? Does it work non-destructively too? -Does it have a Lens Blur so I can use ZDepth to apply DOF in post? To me it's very important to have non-destructive workflows as much as possible. Thanks in advance, -Eugenio
  23. I'm new to Affinity, so your patience is welcome. I have been using Aperture and PS Elements, along with NIK software add-ins, so my learning curve has been lengthly for Affinity. I will have to admit, I am loving Affinity, though....I just repeatedly have to refer to the training videos to remember how to do some things. I know, repetition is the ultimate teacher.... I shoot in raw and usually convert to TIFF to modify after minor adjustments, then to JPEG for any printing or posting. My question to you is: Do you recommend developing all raw images BEFORE adding them into a stack, HDR, Focus Merge, etc.?......OR, can you merge the images in raw and get the same results with processing after the merge? I'm just trying to save a little time, if you know what I mean. Thanks, TommyD
  24. Would it be possible to start the HDR process from open files. When you choose New HDR Merge and the dialogue box comes up. clickin on Add takes you to Explorer so that you can choose the files you want. I would be nice if you could also add files that are already open in the Develop Persona. My reason for this is I use another program for catalogueing my photographs. It has the ability to send files to external editors, and from this program I also send photographs to social media, etc. So I could choose the files I want to be HDR'ed, work on them in Affinity and then save them back to my original folder. I could then post direct from the cataloguing program to Facebook, Flickr etc... Thank you
  25. Check out the sneak peek of the HDR and 360 image editing features coming to Affinity Photo 1.5!
