  1. I'm running AD 1.6.1. The app is crashing every time I edit a guide. In my file I add a vertical guide which puts it down the middle. When I double click it to edit the app crashes. It's the same with horizontal guides. Not sure if it matters, but I am using artboards. Couldn't find this posted already so perhaps it's a unknown issue?
  2. I've been using Inkscape for a while and the way that guides work there is super easy and I'm struggling with setting up the correct guides in Affinity (or maybe the full functionality is just not obvious for new users?). I don't seem to be able to drag the guides to correct small errors due to manual calculations. It looks as if I'm only able to setup guides based on an exact measure or a percentage. It's suggested that the user is able to create and move guides simply by placing their mouse cursor on the rulers (both horizontal and vertical) and dragging it to where they want to place it. It is not necessary to open up any menu or go into a function with everything possible on the displayed desktop. Deleting the guides is as simple as dragging it off the page. What would be even better than Inkscape is the ability to lock the guide positions. For example click on a small lock on the ruler next to the guide. Attached a sample of the Inkscape functionality.
  3. Hi! I've been working with AD now for a little and have a few suggestions that would make at least my workflow better: Guides: it would be nice if I could rotate the guides (set the angle) I could dock the guide manager window I could group guides in the guide manager window and show/hide groups of guides Shape tool: it would be nice if you could add a (logarithmic) spiral Pixel persona: it would be nice if you could add a halftone filter and a possibility for color separation to layers (CMYK): needed for screen printing; right now I have to use other programs for these tasks which would be a real benefit if I could do it within AD Keep up the good work!
  4. Hi, I used the crop tool to crop the canvas size, and when I did the guides I used to snap the crop tool to the right size shifted to the upper left. Why? Here's a screen cap video of what happened. Screen Recording 2018-10-11 at 2.42.28 PM.mov Notice how the guides, which were along the bottom and right edges of the star shape, have moved after the crop. I presume this is a bug? They shouldn't move.
  5. Is there a way to show bleed area so the finished page size is visible as in PP?
  6. Hi. Does anyone know if it's possible to hide graphics etc that overhang the edges of the page boundaries so that only the page contents inside the boundaries are displayed? Its hard to get a true feel for the look of pages when parts of an arc or something else is overhanging the page edges . Also, is there a command somewhere to preview your design as it would look finished? Thanks.
  7. hello! When adding Vertical Guides, in order to select and drag them I have to tap some distance to the left of the guide for it to become "active". Tapping directly over the guide itself won't work. After some testing, the distance to the left is the same as the art board it was created on. The error also seems to happen some times, not always. Is it something I can control and I'm just doing this by accident, or is it a possible glitch in the app? Thank you, and thank you for such a wonderful app.
  8. Good day and good job guys! Beforehand sorry for my bad english. Request: There is a chance to enable the ability to select guides and edit them like the rest of the objects? In InDesign I tend to use many guides, change their position and delete them just like the rest of the objects or just select them to know their position is pretty useful for me. I'm not sure if this is a common way to work for other people but in my case is crucial. I know this is a different app with a different approach than inDesign and I understand that maybe this request is not compatible with the overall user experience concept you have. But at least I should try Thank you for your attention.
  9. The Guides dialog box in not intuitive because it seems one needs to click the page icon next to the Trash every time you want to add a new guide. Far better to have each horizontal field clickable to launch a new guide.
  10. Love the beta of Publisher. Only thing I still am a bit annoyed with is setting guides, because they have to be set manually by distance (percentage or millimeter) rather than to add on X number of guides and have them evenly spaced from either margins or the page. May I suggest a checkbox in the Guides manager? [x] Space guides evenly And radio button for Align guides to (x)Margin ( )Page It would make it a breeze without having to do math.
  11. I have previously requested this for Designer and Photo, but accepted that pixels/points was possibly adequate for most folks' needs. But I'm aghast that Publisher does not support Pica & Points as a measurement standard. Please implement this in your measurement engine! I understand that picas may not be used in Europe, but in North America it's a very useful standard. Points alone is not enough. And, thanks for the public beta release!
  12. Toggling the visibility of margins, guides and frame edges is something that designers working by eye need do be able to do easily. Publisher has a keyboard shortcut for guides, but this doesn't affect the visibility of margins (in ID, the same shortcut toggles both simultaneously). To toggle the visibility of margins requires a separate operation involving manual selection in the View menu. This seems unduly cumbersome, so it would be good if there were a keyboard shortcut for this. Having for years had the visibility of margins and guides governed by the same ID keyboard shortcut, I have never myself encountered any reason for them to be treated separately; a margin is, after all, a kind of guide. As for frame edges, which admittedly are something else, their visibility in Publisher seems to be governed only by the hand tool, which Publisher unusually calls the 'View tool' (when this tool is selected, frame edges disappear ). This can be activated with the tool palette shortcut keystroke-H, and deactivated with another toolbox shortcut, such as Keystroke-T (one of the text tools) or Keystroke-V (the 'Move tool' - dark arrow). But if you happen to be keying in or editing text in a text frame, you obviously can't use these simple alphabetic keystrokes - unless you come out of your editorial operation first, they will just add a T or a V to your text content, and the ESC key seems not to get you out of this for some reason. The combination of an alphanumeric key with a modifier key would be a more convenient way of toggling frame edge visibility. Louismac

  14. Hi, First sorry is that question is already answered. How can I block guides in AD and also make that the software understand them as point to measure, take middle references, etc... Something like this Illustrator capture. Thanks
  15. Hi. Not sure if a bug, but certainly not what I would expect. Got, say, 3 guidelines. I select the first (by clicking to the right of location) and the guide is highlighted. I then click in the 3rd guide to change location but decide to click the trash icon. The first guide is deleted even though my focus is on the 3rd guide. Makes sense? See attached. Guide at 3in is deleted even though focus was on 5in guide. Video_2018-03-06_075732.wmv
  16. When importing an AI (Adobe Illustrator) file the guides are excluded from the import. This is pretty bad since many (printing) companies supply AI formated templates that only consists of guides, artboards and empty layers - none of that is imported by AD ... are there plans to improve that? Cheers, Timo
  17. Hello! after Adobe pulled another stunt (with Lightroom this time) I'm preparing for an Adobe Free Future™! I've come back to Designer (ßeta 1.6/12) — and what I saw made me very, very happy. Cannot wait till I see what you guys do with Publisher! As you have guessed I'm still missing some features before I can ditch Illustrator all together: selecting objects by type/look (see screenshots with Graffix Select Menu) lockable guides and the making guides from objects. Also: split in to grid. overprint on a per object (fill/stroke) base (not only in the swatches). ability to choose a font (and other things) from the contextual menu. Despite its name, it's not very contextual right now. plugins/scripting would make Designer much more powerful of course. See for example what you can do with Python in DrawBot of Nodebox offset path (could be scripted?) more transform options like "transform each", which is very, very handy in Illustrator … Anyway, can't stress enough that you guys already did a fantastic job, making such a powerful app from zero. …without the income of subscription-model ;-). Keep up the good work! — Benjamin
  18. As in topic Ability to drag new guide with any tool selected. Now it only works with select tool (black arrow). Best Regards!
  19. Just thought it would be useful to have guide groups. These could be a type of layer or view, so that when you're working on a large file (like the interface for a website) that has multiple views, you only have the guides relevant to the view you're working on open. Then, you could also hide some guides and show some, without having to hide all guides.
  20. Hi Affinity Team. Hi Community. Ist es möglich Hilfslinien in einem Affinity Designer Artboard zu sperren? Ich habe viele Hilfslinien für eine Druck-Vorlage. Jedoch passiert es häufig dass ich diese aus Versehen verschiebe. Is it possible to lock guides in a affinity-designer artboard? I'm working on a print template. And I often move the guides accidentally. Danke Euch! Thanks! Christian
  21. Hello, I would like to lock guides for artboards and leave them displayed. Now, when it's unlocked and I move some object and it's near guides I move guide instead of an object and it's annoying. I would also appreciate the opportunity to change color of guides and automatic function to creating grid for Bootstrap as an example. Thanks for your answer. Marek
  22. Hey guys, I remember reading on the forum a while ago that the LOCK GUIDES option will be available in one of the next udpates. When is it going to be available? With version 1.7? Thank you, Chris
  23. 1.) In Designer, I often use guides to align elements in logos I design. But in alomost every case, I only need them once, and then want to get rid of them to not disturb me further. Why is deleting guides so complicated? Why can't I just hit the delete key to remove it? (Rule: If nothing it selected, and the most recent mouse click was on a guide, remove that guide). I think Inkscape does it somehow like that. Or remove a guide by dragging it back to the ruler. Maybe less dangerous then the delete key, and still intuitive. :-) When working with a big file (wich several artboards), I suddenly noticed that horizontal guides vanish as soon as I touch them a second time. I found this extremely useful. but it does not apply for vertical guies, and it does not work in other files. So it looks like this "feature" is a bug?? 2.) Why aren't guides global to all artboards? This would be very useful for some applications, like putting elements on the same position on multiple pages of a ducument.
  24. Excepting iPhone photo editing, I am new to both Affinity Photo and digital post-processing, so on a steep learning curve. The Affinity Photo videos, help, and workbook are all great. I have joined a local club and am taking classes too. With Adobe’s large market share, discussions regularly end up talking about feature X or tool Y in one of the Adobe products. So one of the challenges I still face is figuring out the Adobe software features and nomenclature and then translating the to the corresponding Affinity counterpart. Many software companies have challenged the dominant player by creating a help/guide mapping the dominant software usage to corresponding features in their products. Thanks for considering this.
  25. Hi there, is it possible to rearrange the guides (lines/Hilfslinien in german) based on the point of resizement, when changing the documents dimensions? Would be very helpful to add more size to the top. Cheers
