been playing around this afternoon with some different methods of creating custom brushes. Thought I'd share some of the results. this small group of 5 brushes will work in both affinity photo and Designer (Pixel Persona) There are a couple that might make interesting borders, and some that just make interesting grunge or painterly effects experimental Brushes.afbrushes

I've been trying to duplicate the above tutorial for 3 hours; now I hate myself. I have to run, can't explain what isn't working for me. Quickly, it's the part of the tutorial that explains how to protect the edge and a bit inside of the edge from the texture via an inner glow on a higher layer. Please help in exchange for a lifetime namaste.

Hello, everyone. I dove in and bought all the programs. Now, I have a 'best practices' inquiry: How do I set-up the artboard so that the white dirt on the 'K' (a texture file) is actually erased (a layer mask? a clipping ask?), allowing the pink circle to be visible? Sorry - I am completely befuddled by this.

Here's a grunged image. And here's how to do it. Start with the basic image: Duplicate the background layer twice. On the top layer, add a mild Gaussian Blur filter layer as a nested layer (I used 1.2px). Then change the top pixel layer's blend mode to Difference. Now add layers above the top pixel layer, so it affects all below. The Difference'd blend will be very dark, so to see lines, add an Invert adjustment. The lines here are rather feint, so make them visible by adding a Threshold layer and crank the slider very high. I used 98%. This is really noisy, so let's do a bit of smoothing. Add a Denoise filter layer, click the 'extreme' box on the Luminance Denoise slider and move it up high. I went as far as 1513%. Now select all layers except the bottom (original image) layer and make them a group (Ctrl-G). Finally, change the blend mode of the group to Overlay to get the final grunge image above. The final layer stack looks like this: Feel free, of course, to play with layers on/off, variables, opacity, etc.

A realistic grunge banner with a stylized eagle insignia 2, on Flickr Started in Designer, mostly used Photo. 3800x5578 Here is a link to the .afdesign file for this. It includes history and is about 9GB. Copyright Alex Poulsen 2016, copyright includes everything contained with the exception of the fabric texture. Includes the three vector designs. You are free to use the linked .afdesign as a tutorial for creating your own version, however similar the final product may be.
