  1. Hi, When AD imports SVG files, it seems to transform any SVG groups into layers. I made several tests and searched the forums, but I found no conclusive responses to this: is there any way that AD would import SVG groups as AD groups instead of AD layers? Thanks in advance for any help.
  2. From single image file: Add a few adjustment layers above the image layer (Assistant: Add adjustment as new layer) Group the adjustment layers Drag the group down to the image so you get the little vertical blue bar (not the horizontal one) Group is copied just fine Now you can't open the group (no little triangle arrow) (see attached)
  3. I would love a way to paste an object inside a group. In the attached image, I want to paste the pink rectangle inside the group that contains three elements. I know that there are ways to get the same effect, but I want to keep the file as small and editable as possible.
  4. Hello, When I CTRL+Click in Designer (Windows) it always selects the deepest level in the hierarchy, so if I have a rectangle inside a symbol inside a group and ctrl+click it, it will select the rectangle. Is there a way to set the depth of this selection, so that it doesn't select the "insides" of symbols, or only selects up to the first child of a group? Thanks, Fernando
  5. 'morning folks, Would of y'all mind walking me through (or pointing me toward) creating a new Asset file? As a follow-up to the above, things I'm hoping to save are obvious I'm sure but I'll mention them anyway...Grouped-layers composing icons/logos I've created that I need to frequently use (duh). I'm sure your responses will answer all my newbie questions so I'll just wait to see them before posing any more painfully obvious ones. Thanks! -Christo
  6. AD family, This issue I'm trying to sort/figure out MUST be something extremely simple. My apologies for posting again on the same topic but my brain has not served me well on this one. Ive designed a simple image/logo made up of 8 or 9 layers, then grouped them together. My desire was then to duplicate the entire image (group of layers) which I successfully via the cmd+j shortcut. you can see the dups in the layers panel in 1 of the 2 screenshots I've attached below. Here's where Im hitting a wall...using the Move tool, I select/click the topmost grouped-layer in an attempt to drag the duplicates apart and play around with them. When I do this all 4 grouped-layers move around with each other as if 'locked' together. I took a peek at the Line view and could see that in fact all 4 duplicated groups had been moved, and were NOT stacked atop each other as I'd thought. Any/all guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks for bearing with the elementary questions. Regards, -Christo
  7. Apologies for the newbie question here, I have the feeling I'm overlooking something very obvious but can't seem to figure it out. I've created a logo which consists of 6 layers. The layers have been grouped together. My question is a 2-parter: 1) how do I duplicate the group/image-as-a-whole...then separate (drag?) the dup from the original? and, 2) how can I then copy/paste the dup(s) to a new document or artboard? Thanks in advance for any help on this. christo
  8. I started working on an image, which I wanted to change from colour to Monochrome with a spot of colour left in it. I followed a tutorial and it all worked out fine however… having done all that I then spotted several things, which I wanted to make Darker or Lighter and even a few objects that I wanted to Clone Out or use the Inpainting Brush Tool to remove several objects. Ended up with more adjustment layers as well as two more group layers (1 for dark & 1 for Light) However, I'm not at all sure if I've done it in the correct order because some of the parts of the image, which I've made darker are no longer shown as Dark when all layers have been 'ticked'. So, the question or questions are …Is there a 'Set Way' to go about these two different alterations to an image? If there's not a set way then is there a tutorial out there some where that explains/teaches how and when to use different Layers? ~ What the Do's & Don's are ~ When to Group Layers and why? ~ On some tutorials, (some) Layers are 'Worked On' and then they're moved up or down the various other Layers and sometimes they are even bedded into or underneath another different Layer. A full & clear explanation of the above Layer, Layers, Groups & Masking workings would be brilliant not only for the image I'm working on but for all the various other effects that I will want to try & add to an image in the future. Thanks in advance
  9. I have nested groups of text frames and shapes that I copied. These groups were inside a layer in another group. I want to place these groups inside another layer and still retain the original groups---- but when I highlight the layer or place where I would like to paste this copy, it always ends up outside of all layers and also doesn't retain the groupings made in the copy-all frames and shapes get pasted as individual items on their own layer. Is copy/pasting groups not there yet?
  10. I'm using Affinity Designer 1.4.2 and I could not figure out how to edit a group. I double clicked the group to no avail. Finally I realized that I actually could edit the group, but there was no visual cue to tell me that I was in edit mode. I think having a greyed out transparent background would be helpful (similar to Adobe Illustrator's isolation mode). This would tell me that I'm now able to edit the group.
  11. I've multiple layers and groups in my project and one thing occurs to me. Some of my elements (things in the tree) are groups and some are layers even if they have children. When I add layers inside another layer, doesn't this make the layer a group? What is the difference? Why can't I ungroup layergroups? How can I even create empty groups? Why can't i give a group a color? I can for example put an text element inside an image. Why is this possible?
  12. HI :) First of all... Im amazed that you have made what I thought would never happen. A photoshop competitor. Like a REAL competitor. Crazy. And to the feature request: I would love to be able to organize layers in groups, but still be able to select an area on the canvas with things from different layer groups: effectively ignoring groups momentarily. I dont this this is possible now without using the layers pallette to select? Best regards Soren
  13. Hi there! I have a problem with transparent groups. They are getting rasterized when after exporting to PDF. Screenshot from Affinity: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29112876/Screenshot%202015-10-15%2011.08.36.png Screenshot of the generated PDF: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29112876/Screenshot%202015-10-15%2011.12.02.png Left set of shapes (rasterized in PDF) created by applying transparency on the group. Right set of shapes - transparency applied to the shape layers. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29112876/Screenshot%202015-10-15%2011.16.07.png Pdf and affinity files are attached as well. Is there any way to make PDF not to rasterize transparent groups? Thanks! background.pdf background.afdesign
  14. In addition to the current sampling settings in the Healing Brush etc., a "Current Layer and Below in Group" option would be very useful. One frequent use case would be frequency separation. I like to use two groups, one for the low frequency and one for the high pass image. I can then create additional layers in each one. For the low pass group, that's pretty simple since "Current Layer & Below" will work fine. To work with layers inside the high frequency group, however, I need to manually hide all layers below until I can clone/heal from the high frequency image only onto a new layer. That means I currently get no live preview of my results, and checking what I am doing involves manually selecting and toggling all layers below all the time. Being able to restrict sampling to the current group would solve these issues. Also, a checkbox inside the Frequency Separation command to create groups with layers in them instead of single layers would save the trouble of creating the groups, setting the high frequency layer's blend mode to normal and setting the high frequency group's blend mode to Linear Light every time, and it could even create empty layers above each base layer as well. While I am at it, it would be very nice if the Blemish Removal Tool could also get sampling options since that is really the only way one could work non-destructively with that particular tool.
