  1. This is hardly life threatening but could someone please explain to me the difference between Group and Group Layers in the layers Palette context menu? Playing with the two they appear to do the same thing. I hope this is not going to be forehead slappingly embarrassing.
  2. I have two shapes of different colors that i grouped together. how can i add a stroke (border) to just the outside of the grouped shapes?
  3. Hi Affinity Team, I have a problem with Affinity Photo and it's PSD export. When I use Layer Groups and export the file to PSD the Blend Mode is always set to "Normal" instead of its original set mode ("Transfer" by default). I checked several import export scenarios with Adobe Photoshop and Affinity Photo and this is definitely an export and not an import problem. Kind regards, Tom
  4. Hi, I want to snap individual object inside a group, but when I hovering my cursor to the object I wanted, the whole group was selected, and my candidate list is set to 6, so end up everything in my page were purple color indicated selected since all group selected when I point to more things. why this happen but not before? How do i solve this problem? Previously I can just hovering my cursor to whatever i want then a purple color will flash around the object to indicate you can snap to it no matter it is in a group or not. but now after 1.5 update or any reason, I can't do that anymore. even the whole group been selected, I can't snap to any object inside the group, only the boundary of the group. This is a follow up to my previous unsolved question https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/30909-how-to-snap-object-base-on-bottom-object/?p=152215 This is my snapping setting, if anything wrong please correct me The snapping I wanted is like this Please help! I wanted to continue my project as soon as possible!
  5. Hi all I have an arrow and want to bend/wrap the group after construction to a path. Example attached. The arrow in it should follow/bend like the curve. I am currently stuck and really appreciate any help and hints :) Many thanks in advance, Roland Pfeil.afdesign
  6. Please check the GIF and the attached file which can reproduce the bug. Windows 7 64 bit Affinity Designer 1.5.1.43 grouping bug.afdesign
  7. Hi, I encounter a serious and blocking issue while trying to group 2 layers: the resulting groups bounding box is set to a random location... I've attached a sample file to illustrate the issue: if you try to groupe layers G1 and G2 you'll see that the result is not what you expect... I hope this can be fixed soon... NB: This post seems to be a similar issue: http://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/30605-ad-154-constraint-bug/?hl=group Grouping issue.afdesign
  8. When you hold ctrl and select an object that's grouped together with another object, you select that object instead of the group. This is a great feature, and I use it a lot. When you hold ctrl and drag, you copy and drag the selected object. This feature is also available when you hold alt + drag. Is there a way to disable the ctrl + drag and only use alt + drag? Because I can't seem to stop making copies when I try to select a grouped object.

    AD 1.5.4 Constraint bug

If I group a constrained layer which is wider then the artboard size, while the layer itself keep its position, the position indication box will be displaced, and part (sometime the whole) of the layer will be hided/masked.
  10. Summary: This feature would allow you to use a group to clip a layer, so the resulting transparency of a group of layers would affect the transparency of the layer being clipped. Usage: First off, I have hundreds of psd files from photoshop that use this feature, so I can't use any of these paintings inside Affinity because that feature is not supported (This feature is kind of a show stopper for me, since I can't port all of my older files over to Affinity) And second, it's so useful for a non destructive workflow, many times you want to say paint a bunch of different characters on separate layers, and then apply a soft layer of fog to all the characters. So you group all of your character layers, create a new layer that has your fog color set to a low opacity, and then clip this fog layer to your group. In the current affinity workflow, you'd have to flatten all of those characters to a single layer, which means making edits to your characters later on become a lot harder. Thanks! - Neil
  11. Using a group as a layer mask doesnt seem to be possible, which kind of sucks. One work around for a good workflow would be if you could choose the way you are painting like in GIMP.
  12. I'm sure there is a simple answer, but can't find it anywhere: how can I make font size of text inside a group scale proportionally with the group?

    SVG Exports

In the last week, I've been experiencing issues with exporting files in the SVG format, and I've never encountered this before. For example, I created a 500x500 document. I placed a circled with a 200px radius in the center of the document and exported as an SVG. This was the result I obtained: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> <!DOCTYPE svg PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD SVG 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/1.1/DTD/svg11.dtd"> <svg width="100%" height="100%" viewBox="0 0 500 500" version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xml:space="preserve" style="fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;stroke-linejoin:round;stroke-miterlimit:1.41421;"> <g transform="matrix(1.22699,0,0,1.22699,-29.7546,5.82822)"> <circle cx="228" cy="199" r="163" style="fill:rgb(255,229,43);"/> </g> </svg> Often times, it doesn't even get the viewBox attribute correct (though in this example it did). Is this a new issue? Or is this the byproduct of some setting I'm unaware of making? I've attached the .afdesign file for reference. Thank you so much. yellow_circle.afdesign
  14. Hi, Just noticed something in Designer 1.5.1 that I haven't come across before. Just started working on an idea and wanted to group some of the balloons in the screenshots attached. Selecting them and then CMD-G to group them makes them move position. Is this normal [new] behaviour and have I missed a new setting or a bug? Regards, Bert
  15. I'm using Affinity Designer 1.4.2 and I could not figure out how to edit a group. I double clicked the group to no avail. Finally I realized that I actually could edit the group, but there was no visual cue to tell me that I was in edit mode. I think having a greyed out transparent background would be helpful (similar to Adobe Illustrator's isolation mode). This would tell me that I'm now able to edit the group.
  16. Hey, I asked this question a while ago in the adobe forum, but I never got a reply. So I'll try my luck here. I'd like to have a feature to "apply" clipping groups. Let's take several shapes and combine them into a clipping group (see attachments 1 & 2). The apply operation would have the following result: -children which are actually intersecting with the clipping path are intersected (standard boolean operation) --children which are not available for intersect-operations remain in the clipping group -children outside the clipping path are deleted -children completely inside the path will remain unaffected It would be a great feature, especially when you decide to clip whole artworks or cutting them apart. ~Andrej
  17. Good evening! I try to get used to Affinity Designer and now have a problem to work with nodes from an SVG file. I have a file that gets loaded asa single layer object. I now want to select some nodes and group them as new object or to cut them with ctrl + x but it always cuts the whole big object, not only the selected nodes. I can delete selected nodes. There is the "Divide" tool, that does get most parts separated into own objects, but sometimes has problems with thin lines like with my shield, it makes big filled objects instead of thin lines. Maybe someone can tell me how I can get own objects out of closed nodes? Problem this shield: gets divided to full black objects: HTML5-SVG-SingleObject.svg shild.svg
  18. Is there any way to group a number of palettes, undock the group, and then toggle the group on/off with a shortcut key? For example, I would like to group Histogram, Scope, and EXIF in one undocked palette that I could toggle on/off as needed with a shortcut key for the group. That would make it very easy to have a clean uncluttered workspace while offering easy access to tools and palettes with a minimum of keystrokes. There are other groupings that I would like to set up but having to call each one individually is a royal pain. Am I overlooking something? Is there a better way to accomplish this?
  19. Hi Today I encountered what seems like a bug to me. When I group some objects in Designer and then proceed to scale them, they scale from the opposite reference point (only left and right are swapped). Non-grouped objects don't behave like this. I've added a video of the problem. Thanks! Bauke Reference point.mov
  20. Steps to reproduce: 1. Draw some objects 2. Select all objects 3. Rotate the objects in any way 4. Press Command+G or right click and "Group" in context menu Actual result: Selection box of grouped objects is wrong. Expected result: Right result we can see if we group the objects before rotating them.
  21. Hi all, new user. How do I snap a slice to layer bounds? Can't figure it out from snapping settings. TIA, Jack
  22. When an object is deleted inside a group, it exits the group. It would be nice if it stayed inside the group. I found myself deleting, then double clicking to enter, deleting and the double clicking to enter. :)
  23. I have various layers (mostly text) inside groups and I want to pull them out and group them together so I can flatten everything else. After selecting them if I simply group them the items are scattered everywhere, including off the artboard. Instead I have to cut then paste everything. It's not a huge deal for me to do this but seems to be a bug.
  24. Hello, I miss the functionality for organizing groups without touching the mouse. If I had a shortcut for renaming a group or an element or could select one or more elements/groups with the keyboard, it would be a lot more comfortable. There are already the standard shortcuts for cut, copy, paste, etc, but it seems to me like they have not much value as long as I had to use the mouse. What do you think? Best regards Leon
  25. Hello, In doing astrophotography, these two features are really essential. I really love using AP for editing, but it becomes nearly impossible to with astrophotography because it's missing these two features. Especially because AP has features like LAB, it could be a really great tool potentially - and I don't think (at least the median mode) is very difficult to implement. They're useful for stacking photos - when taking pictures of the night sky without a tracker, you're limited in the exposure length you can use, because the Earth is rotating. To get a useful picture, you really need an exposure with at least ISO 3200, making very noisy images. The solution is to take multiple pictures and align them in post, and then use a median filter to remove the noise (which is incredibly effective). It's useful for other things as well - basically any noise reduction. There are perfectly clear stacks of images taken at ISO 25,600 or higher - and the median filter can get rid of people walking in front of a landscape, for example. My point is, these are really useful features for everyone and could add a lot to the abilities of AP and make it a very appealing software for another group of photographers.
