  1. How can I place an black/white image as a mask onto a group. Masking is some confusing compared to what I'm used to doing in Photoshop. In this case i drug the black and white pixel layer ontop of the group thumbnail and it appears to apply it as a mask but doesn't do anything? The workflow appears very unpredictable at times like this where I spend 30 minutes trying to figure out something so trivial. I'm going to guess the solution is not as straight forward as this.... In this sample I should be seeing a red background however I'm still seeing the black background that's part of the original image which should be masked out. Any help please?
  2. Hi, I'm unable to find a simple way to rasterise a group of layers? 'rasterise' flattens the whole document 'rasterize selected' has no effect when you have the group selected The only way I've managed to even do it is by hiding every other layer and then choosing 'merge visible' That's fair enough, I suppose, since I only have a few layers, but it certainly wouldn't be fair enough if I had any more than 10 layers on the go! Anyone else found a legit way to flatten a group? Thanks Wayne
  3. This bug happens consistently and after I power off and on my iPad. I've got the latest iOS and AP 1.6.3.43. I'm in the layers studio, in RGB. I start with 2 layers: Top layer: bright green pixel layer, blend mode darken Bottom layer: mid grey pixel layer Result: a dull green, as expected. Select the top layer and tap group: The blend mode of the group is normal The blend mode of the bright green pixel layer in the group is darken Result: unchanged, a dull green: the pixels from the grey bottom layer are entering the bottom of the group and darkening the bright green pixel layer in the group. Tap the group to select it. Tap ... (more). In the window, tap the blend mode (is normal). In the list of blend modes that appears, tap normal. Result: what I see suddenly changes from dull green to bright green. Suddenly the pixels from the grey bottom layer have stopped entering the bottom of the group and influencing the bright green pixel layer in the group. The bug is that changing the group's blend mode from normal to normal shouldn't change what I see. Should pixels from the grey bottom layer be able to enter the bottom of the group and influence the layers in the group? If I then change the group's blend mode to darken, I see the dull green again, as I expect.

    Designer | grouping

Hello, I am on affinity designer 1.5.3.69. There is a bunch of shape at the root of an artboard I want to group. Whenever I try to, the content disapears: actualy the content is still in place, but the group is marked as "constraint group" and its bounding box is completly out of the artboard. Maybe there is something I am doing wrong, but I am expecting the bounding box of the group to be around its content. Thanks a lot!
  6. Hi, there is the following inconsistent naming issue, when creating symbols: 1. create a group 2. create a symbol out of the group >> in the layer hierarchy the name of the group will be displayed with "(Symbol)" as Suffix 1. create a layer 2. create a symbol out of the layer >> in the layer hierarchy the name of the layer will be displayed but NOT with "(Symbol)" as Suffix, it keeps its "(Layer)" Suffix That's confusing. You never know if it is a symbol or not. Especially if you are so forgetful like me or you have to work with files from different users. Cheers, Stefan.

    Crash on copy

Recently, I tried to copy a small group of elements from within a fairly large Affinity Designer file. After whirring away for a few seconds, the app just crashed. This repeats any time I try to copy in this file. It doesn't happen in other smaller files. I had not had any problems with this file whilst I was working on it actively. It is only on reopening it to grab a group of elements to use in a new file that this bug appeared. This problem occurred after a recent update to of AD. Is there a solution?
  8. Thanks in advance friends... ...when flattening into a single pixel layer, do I first need to rasterize the grouped layers? Not sure how to do this, i.e, I'm unclear on the steps involved, and the proper order in which to perform them. A brief walk-thru would be greatly appreciated. FYI - I am wanting to manipulate the Flat image (bend, curve around a cylindrical surface such as a large barrel or a utility pole, alter perspective and/or viewing angle, stretch by pulling/moving nodes independently of each other, etc). greateful for your help, -Christo
  9. No doubt again something simple, again probably a simple fix, but I've already conceded my infant level AD knowledge - help please. How do y'all explain the following behavior upon my reducing the image size in AD, on a 3 month old MacBook Pro running AD 1.5? I've attached 4 thumbnails below to help illustrate. I drag a me-made asset (that stupid black tote bag) onto a photographic image of Bigfoot in an attempt create a crude image of him carrying a black tote bag with a logo on it. Obviously, the scale of the tote is way too large so I begin to reduce it's size. I used both the Transform Panel (W+H) as well as constraining via Shift/Drag. In both cases, the smaller I reduce, the more I see proportional changes in certain layers in the logo (which are grouped). I did NOT have the 'Loch Children' box ticked - would this have bearing on the effect I'm getting? Most obvious IMO is the change in the curvature around the black 'C'...just saying. Thanks for any help! (I love playing with this program - can't wait 'til i have a better grasp of it all) -Christo
  10. This is hardly life threatening but could someone please explain to me the difference between Group and Group Layers in the layers Palette context menu? Playing with the two they appear to do the same thing. I hope this is not going to be forehead slappingly embarrassing.
  11. I have two shapes of different colors that i grouped together. how can i add a stroke (border) to just the outside of the grouped shapes?
  12. Hi Affinity Team, I have a problem with Affinity Photo and it's PSD export. When I use Layer Groups and export the file to PSD the Blend Mode is always set to "Normal" instead of its original set mode ("Transfer" by default). I checked several import export scenarios with Adobe Photoshop and Affinity Photo and this is definitely an export and not an import problem. Kind regards, Tom
  13. Hi, I want to snap individual object inside a group, but when I hovering my cursor to the object I wanted, the whole group was selected, and my candidate list is set to 6, so end up everything in my page were purple color indicated selected since all group selected when I point to more things. why this happen but not before? How do i solve this problem? Previously I can just hovering my cursor to whatever i want then a purple color will flash around the object to indicate you can snap to it no matter it is in a group or not. but now after 1.5 update or any reason, I can't do that anymore. even the whole group been selected, I can't snap to any object inside the group, only the boundary of the group. This is a follow up to my previous unsolved question https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/30909-how-to-snap-object-base-on-bottom-object/?p=152215 This is my snapping setting, if anything wrong please correct me The snapping I wanted is like this Please help! I wanted to continue my project as soon as possible!
  14. Hi all I have an arrow and want to bend/wrap the group after construction to a path. Example attached. The arrow in it should follow/bend like the curve. I am currently stuck and really appreciate any help and hints :) Many thanks in advance, Roland Pfeil.afdesign

  16. Hi, I encounter a serious and blocking issue while trying to group 2 layers: the resulting groups bounding box is set to a random location... I've attached a sample file to illustrate the issue: if you try to groupe layers G1 and G2 you'll see that the result is not what you expect... I hope this can be fixed soon... NB: This post seems to be a similar issue: http://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/30605-ad-154-constraint-bug/?hl=group Grouping issue.afdesign
  17. When you hold ctrl and select an object that's grouped together with another object, you select that object instead of the group. This is a great feature, and I use it a lot. When you hold ctrl and drag, you copy and drag the selected object. This feature is also available when you hold alt + drag. Is there a way to disable the ctrl + drag and only use alt + drag? Because I can't seem to stop making copies when I try to select a grouped object.

    AD 1.5.4 Constraint bug

If I group a constrained layer which is wider then the artboard size, while the layer itself keep its position, the position indication box will be displaced, and part (sometime the whole) of the layer will be hided/masked.
  19. Summary: This feature would allow you to use a group to clip a layer, so the resulting transparency of a group of layers would affect the transparency of the layer being clipped. Usage: First off, I have hundreds of psd files from photoshop that use this feature, so I can't use any of these paintings inside Affinity because that feature is not supported (This feature is kind of a show stopper for me, since I can't port all of my older files over to Affinity) And second, it's so useful for a non destructive workflow, many times you want to say paint a bunch of different characters on separate layers, and then apply a soft layer of fog to all the characters. So you group all of your character layers, create a new layer that has your fog color set to a low opacity, and then clip this fog layer to your group. In the current affinity workflow, you'd have to flatten all of those characters to a single layer, which means making edits to your characters later on become a lot harder. Thanks! - Neil
  20. Using a group as a layer mask doesnt seem to be possible, which kind of sucks. One work around for a good workflow would be if you could choose the way you are painting like in GIMP.
  21. I'm sure there is a simple answer, but can't find it anywhere: how can I make font size of text inside a group scale proportionally with the group?

    SVG Exports

In the last week, I've been experiencing issues with exporting files in the SVG format, and I've never encountered this before. For example, I created a 500x500 document. I placed a circled with a 200px radius in the center of the document and exported as an SVG. This was the result I obtained: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> <!DOCTYPE svg PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD SVG 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/1.1/DTD/svg11.dtd"> <svg width="100%" height="100%" viewBox="0 0 500 500" version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xml:space="preserve" style="fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;stroke-linejoin:round;stroke-miterlimit:1.41421;"> <g transform="matrix(1.22699,0,0,1.22699,-29.7546,5.82822)"> <circle cx="228" cy="199" r="163" style="fill:rgb(255,229,43);"/> </g> </svg> Often times, it doesn't even get the viewBox attribute correct (though in this example it did). Is this a new issue? Or is this the byproduct of some setting I'm unaware of making? I've attached the .afdesign file for reference. Thank you so much. yellow_circle.afdesign
  23. Hi, Just noticed something in Designer 1.5.1 that I haven't come across before. Just started working on an idea and wanted to group some of the balloons in the screenshots attached. Selecting them and then CMD-G to group them makes them move position. Is this normal [new] behaviour and have I missed a new setting or a bug? Regards, Bert
  24. I'm using Affinity Designer 1.4.2 and I could not figure out how to edit a group. I double clicked the group to no avail. Finally I realized that I actually could edit the group, but there was no visual cue to tell me that I was in edit mode. I think having a greyed out transparent background would be helpful (similar to Adobe Illustrator's isolation mode). This would tell me that I'm now able to edit the group.
  25. Hey, I asked this question a while ago in the adobe forum, but I never got a reply. So I'll try my luck here. I'd like to have a feature to "apply" clipping groups. Let's take several shapes and combine them into a clipping group (see attachments 1 & 2). The apply operation would have the following result: -children which are actually intersecting with the clipping path are intersected (standard boolean operation) --children which are not available for intersect-operations remain in the clipping group -children outside the clipping path are deleted -children completely inside the path will remain unaffected It would be a great feature, especially when you decide to clip whole artworks or cutting them apart. ~Andrej
