  1. I've made a handful of designs on Affinity Designer and have always been able to see the grid through my canvas. All of a sudden I cannot and I can't figure out why. I see the grid all "around" the canvas, just not running through it.
  2. Hello, is there any possibility, to edit a text, after changing it with the grid-tool? Regards Frank
  3. The new triangular grid is really neat. It helps me make hexagonal assets for a game I'm working on. An obstacle I'm facing is that the grid spacing value corresponds to the hypotenuse of the triangle and not the base of the triangle. When using a whole number (actually any rational number) for the spacing (e.g. 32px), the base (i.e. x-coordinate spacing) works out as an irrational number (27.71281292px...). It's not possible to enter a spacing value that results in integer x-coordinate spacing since the coefficient between the base and hypotenuse is irrational (square-root of 3). As a result of this the triangular grid is never aligned with the pixel grid. Since the slice persona requires that slice coordinates and dimensions are all aligned with the pixel grid it's not possible to precisely slice shapes that are aligned with the triangular grid. There are a few possible fixes, any would work: * Allow the user to space the triangular grid using the base instead of the hypotenuse. * Allow non-integer values for the x and y coordinates in the slice persona. * Allow the user to enter expressions that result in irrational numbers in the spacing field [1]. I attached a screenshot showing the misaligned grids in a zoomed-in slice persona. [1] This is allowed presently, but the result is resolved to an insufficient precision. Even on a small canvas (500px by 500px) the accumulating difference means that the two grids become misaligned fairly quickly.
  4. Hi there. Looking at making the switch from Illustrator to AD. I'm a stained glass designer and one thing I'm struggling with is drawing a rectangular (or square) grid inside another rectangle (e.g. Using Illustrator's rectangular grid tool as per the attached image). I there an equivalent tool in AD, or a workaround using custom grids? Many thanks G
  5. I would love if it was possible to offset the start point of the grid. In both directions, either negative or positive (top or down).
  6. Hi, as soon as I update my AffinityDesigner app and opened my copy of Affinity Photo, I noticed that the full Grid has disappeared (background grid). That by the way was very useful for both of the Affinity apps. And I didn't manage to find an option on the menu to enable the feature. I hope you could reconsider this option for the next update.
  7. Sorry for the premature question but I don't know why the selection marquee is not snapping to the grid, when the grid is visible? Usually when the grid is visible and snapping is enabled, the selection rectangle snaps to the grid as I draw the selection out. This is not happening in APhoto. Any reason why not or am I just missing something really obvious? Thanks.
  8. Hi, I'm not entirely sure if this is on purpose like this or a (harmless cosmetic) UI bug, but the grid is drawn on top of the scrollbar area (basically the scrollers are behind the actual content they control/ scroll). This just looks a bit strange and uncommon, IMHO. :) regards, tokai Affinity Designer: 1.4 (Mac App Store Version)
  9. Hello there, I recently updated AD and bought AP, but on these new versions I've noticed that the Full Grid has disappear and only shows a grid on the document but not outside the canvas, is there anyway I can fix this?? I really liked this feature specially for Affinity Designer :(.
  10. Would be good to have a "show grid" toolbar button that I could add to my toolbar via the "customise toolbar" option. I often want to toggle the grid on quickly to make a precise adjustment but then switch it off again as it obscures the image a little too much to leave on all the time. It could possibly be added as part of a set along with guides and rulers.
  11. I made a custom triangular grid using the grid manager, but I have difficulties figuring out how to start filling the grid with different colour. Can you share a tip? Thanks a lot.
  12. Hei! I made a grid in AD and need to start filling the triangle-shaped ''grid-holes'' with colour. When I was testing the idea it was ok to make the triangles and fit them one by one to the grid, but is there a more efficient and clean-looking way to do it? There probably is x) I'm adding the .psd of it also. Big thanks. gridwork1.psd
  13. pen tool has some great snap options but I can't find snap to grid. I am sure its there but.....!
  14. I want to take the chance to congratulate the Affinity Designer team for their great software. My feature request for some future version is to be able to snap to line midpoints, endpoints and geometry intersections. Keep up the good work!
  15. I just finished watching the tutorials for developing a 3D isometric building, which was very interesting. A great tutorial, but now I want to learn all the options inside the Grid and Axis Manager menu, but I cannot find anything in the Help topics. The most I found was a brief description of the grid system. Can you direct me where to find more information on the Grid and Axis Manager?
  16. How to increase Grid line thickness - Affinity Photo The Grid lines are too thin for me. In Develop Persona I Show Grid and the open Grid and Axis Manager but I don't see a way to increase Grid line thickness. Can this be done and how?
  17. Hey guys, I wanted to suggest a useful addition to the grid tool: Radial grids, where we can assign the number of sections / slices in the circular grid, as well as the number of rings. Having separate gutter/spacing for both dimensions would be great as well. Thanks for considering this.
  18. Hi, I was wondering what is the point of the 'View > Grid and Axis Manager'? I can change the grid to dimetric, isometric, etc, which is GREAT! But when I'm drawing out a shape (e.g. a rectangle, oval, etc), it does not conform to the transformed grid system. It's not drawing the rectangle neither dimetric or trimetric, etc mode, but the same horizontal/vertical mode as usual. This way I don't see much point to the whole feature. What does the 'Create Plane Set' checkbox do? I don't experience any feedback or change in the viewport, or during interaction with objects, regardless of this setting. What is the purpose of the items in the 'Additional snapping axis setup' section? Don't really experience anything changing regardless how I set them. I was glad to see such a tool, but it seems the whole thing is just an 'eye-candy' of some sort without any useful functionality. Sorry, if this is not the case and I'm just aimlessly wondering why none of these features seem to work, but I didn't find anything on any of these tools/settings in the help file.
  19. Hey! I came across problem - I can't find where I can change grid size, for example, I want small grid units per 4px and big grid units per 20px (right now it is 20px for small ones & 100px for big ones) Also is it possible to change grid color - I'm working on light gray background and it's quite hard to see the grid. Thanks! :)
  20. How do I change the grid size? I've looked under every menu and missed it, if it's there. The current grid is too large for my needs at the moment. I'm sure it can be changed; I just can't figure out how.
  21. Is it possible to select the color of the guidelines and grids? Depending on the image they can be almost impossible to see. That may not matter if you're using Snapping but there are times when you need to do things manually.
  22. Hey, I know you guys are working on updated grids and guides... I just wanted to add my 2 cents: It would be great if : 1. Grids and Guides were a little smarter, by only appearing when actived AND in the middle of a click and drag operation. 2. Guides can be manually or are automatically toggled on while the mouse is held down. As soon as the mouse is released, the grids/guides disappear. 3. Custom colors/blend modes for guides and grids, including solid and dotted.
  23. I think it'd be great to be able to define custom global and/or per-document grids. I was recently in Inkscape, and being able to have custom grid increments/colors/types is a pretty nice feature. Thinking these might be some nice grid settings (global and/or per-document): - X&Y coord. minor grid-line increments (also choose units in px, pt, in, etc.) - X&Y coord. major grid-line increments (also choose units in px, pt, in, etc.) - minor grid-line color - major grid-line color - grid type (line, dot) Thanks!
  24. I want to draw with the pen tool and the nodes shall snap to the grid. OK, that works, But: can I make a fixed grid e.g. every mm? As I see the grid changes automatically when zooming in/out. A fixed grid would be necessary for exact drawings not depending from zoom level I didn't find any menu to adjust this.
  25. How to go about adjusting the Grid size ?
