  1. When I create a mask, then paint on that mask in black, it is as if I am painting in dark grey. The masked layer shows through dimly and is not removed completely until I paint over it again. In the attached file, you can see that I have a red layer with a mask and a blue layer below that. When I paint on the mask, you can see that the result is a deep purple but if I paint over it again all of the red is removed and the blue shows through correctly. Brush opacity is 100%, Flow 100%, and hardness 100%. I must be missing something in the settings but I can't figure it out. Suggestions? Thanks, -dmd-
  2. Hi everyone! I have been using Affinity Designer quite recently. But at the very beginning, I had problems that I still cannot solve. Can someone tell me how this can be done. First question: After I have created the document, I cannot resize it normally. That is, I do not know the exact values of the width and height, I would like to just pull the edges of the canvas and select the optimal size. But I cannot find how to do it. When you select the "Resize" item in the menu, you need to know the specific values for the length and width to adjust, but I do not know them. It would be convenient if the canvas at least changes when you change the parameters, but this does not happen. Is there a solution to this problem? Second question: I found that you can convert canvas to artboards and then you can resize them when you drag on the edges. BUT. The background behind the artboards turns an awful bright gray. This is very distracting. Can this be changed? Thank you for your responses!
  3. Hi all, I have simple stupid beginner question - black and white mask work for me quite well (white solid, black transparent). But I would like use a picture as mask - grey color semitransparent - darker grey - more transparent, brighter gray less transparent. Unfortunately, in case I use the picture as a mask, it doesnt work. Only pictures with 100% black and white works. Which way should I go to reach my goal? Thank you. As an attachment is example - I want these lines to be more/less transparent according to the cake picture (named background)...its just test. example.afphoto
  4. Hey! Maybe someone can help me on this: I just want to export a layout from Publisher as a PDF/X3 with K-only - or better: a grey only document wherein are shades of K only (from 1% to 100%). Whenever I use the grey color space setting for export - my document color space is set to grey too - it ends up turning greys into CMYK even if a stroke or form is K-only in Publisher... How might I export such a grey (K-only) PDF correctly? All the best, Chris
  5. So far I've not found a way to determine the exact grey value of a particular pixel of a layer mask in Affinity Photo. The info panel only shows colour values of the underlying layers. This is a very useful feature, for example if you work with gradients to combine two photos and you want to refine a certain area of the mask and apply the same grey value as in other areas of the mask. If such a feature really does not exist in Affinity Photo I'd like to request it to be implemented. If it does exist and I've simply not found it yet I'd be grateful if somebody could instruct me how to do it.
  6. How can I export a .pdf: grey (B&W) + spot colour. my grey is always cmyk ??? thx martim
  7. I've the following problem: I just wanted to make a simple "symbol" with a frame (with a little bit bigger black contour 1pt) and 4 lines inside, somehow grey (and a little bit thinner 0.3pt). I could manage to design it quite fast (using a rectangle and 4 lines - using the Pen tool), but when printed, I had to find out, that the inner lines are somehow pixelated, when I use opacy or any kind of grey color for the contours. The black one is fine (see attached pic). I'm new to Affinity Designer, so I hope, it's just a problem because I did something wrong. Anyone any idea - what's the problem? By the way, the printer is not the problem. I checked it with other programs. There it works well. Test.afdesign
  8. I have problems with the toolbars in the application. They seemed to be "greyed out" -- I am currently running OS 10.11.5. My mac has the following specs: Hardware Overview: Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro3,1 Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 3.2 GHz Number of Processors: 2 Total Number of Cores: 8 L2 Cache (per Processor): 12 MB Memory: 32 GB Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz Boot ROM Version: MP31.006C.B05 SMC Version (system): 1.25f4 Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 2048 MB Here is a screen capture of the problem. Can you help?
  9. Hi Everyone - flummoxed again :) I have a mosaic that I made, each square a separate vector element in a different color. I'll be using this image over and over, but each time in a different context. One thing I need to do is convert them all to grey scale. I need to keep them as individual editable items but can't figure out how to take them all and get rid of their color all at once. I know how to do that once it's saved as pixels, but not vector. I tried the different layer blending modes, but the closest I got turned them all a bit brown. Hope this isn't confusing! Thanks in advance!
