  1. In the Layer styles panel, I would find it very useful to make a gradient repeat itself when applied to something. For example If I have an assortment of colors that are applied to text, if it repeated the gradient I don't have to create an endless pattern of the same colors. With a repeat option it would apply the already set up gradient and repeat it across the span of the entire text object.
  2. It would be very useful to apply dodge and burn as a gradient, not just as a brush. Also, Also, it is a nuisance that the box of the blend range opens always in the center of the image with which you are working. And having to move it aside, each and every time you open it, so that it does not hinder the vision of the changes you make. Thanks and regards.
  3. Try this: 1. New document. 2. Click once on the Rectangle Tool (or type "M") 3. Click the square to the right of "Fill:" in the upper left corner of the window. 4. Click on the "Gradient" tab. 5. Note there is no field to set the ANGLE. Please add that. Why? Because Illustrator has one and for good reason. Yes, you can set the angle by going outside the Gradient panel, choosing the gradient tool and then manually doing it. But if one is already working inside the Gradient tab (especially for matters of precision), it is only logical that an ANGLE setting should be in there too. Thanks!
  4. I have created a pattern that I have used as a bitmap for a gradient fill in an object. I have adjusted the handles so the pattern is orientated and sized how I would like it. Is there a way of copying this to another object with the orientation and size intact? Or is there a numeric input somewhere?
  5. I always wonder that in AP there is no direct way to apply a transparent color adjustment gradient fade, which would be pretty useful for macros to have. When recording macros one actually can only use an adjustment gradient or a fx gradient effect, but the first one (which I would prefer to use for quick turn arounds) doesn't allow to alter/setup a linear gradient color transparency ... ... the fx effect in turn allows to setup this but works on a whole pixel layer and not an adjustment mask level. Also the usual gradient tool allows to setup such color->trancparency fades, but isn't recordable in macros at all. Any reason why an adjustment gradient (see the top shown panel) doesn't offer to setup a opacity color aka transparent fade here? - That looks somehow like an option omission to me.
  6. Hello, I have a really big problem with the Gradient tool... When I use the tool it immediately applies black/white color on my image, i can first change the color when its already applied which means under my intended color there will remain black or white pixels which make the gradient look terrible. My question is can I turn the automatic-application off somehow? it kind of works with Context:Fill-->Type:Solid Im just wondering if other people have experienced same issues with the tool, im still a newbie at the program... overall it's good but I enjoyed the Gradient tool of GIMP way more... Affinity Photo never acutally saves the colors that i've used before it always jumps back to black/white colors or it lets me select 1 color but the other one stays black/ or white... I struggle so much at this, maybe it's on me to blame. IDK anymore... sometimes I click on Stroke and the ( Type: ) option is even locked... or it doesnt allow me to reverse the gradient on the options.
  7. Problem Gradients have bothered me forever, not only Affinity but every piece of software that has them. Turns out that both gradients and blur are subject to the same problem, which is that they are not performing the color average calculations correctly. The issue is best explained in this video. The gradient is on the left and the blur is on the right. The color between these two is too dark. This happens for every color combination. You can also see the edges of the gradient because it is being calculated linearly. The fix below using gradients is still wrong because it still is victim to the darkness resulting from the bad average calculation. This is also a good example of the linear gradient issue because you can see a definitive purple line down the center. This is my best attempt to fix the linear gradient and make it more logarithmic This calculation issue is also extremely visible in the color chooser The examples above are all using Adobe RGB, not sRGB. Suggested fix Idea 1 Because many documents are now using the wrong calculation, my suggested fix would be to add an option to the gradient tool for what type of calculation to use in order to maintain compatibility with older documents. Idea 2 Take the Photoshop approach and just make it a document setting (and turn it on by default for new documents). Result Fixing this will result in a more accurate and pleasing gradient and blur tool. Fixing this will also fix the linear gradient problem, which causes the center and edges of gradients to be extremely visible since they are not being calculated logarithmically to compensate for how humans perceive brightness/color. Here is a snapshot of the video I linked above showing what the blur and gradient should look like:
  8. Hi! I'd love to see a Gaussian Blur tool that acted similarly to the Transparency or Gradient tools ... You could have the blur get progressively heavier as you dragged the mouse pointer towards the edge of the object. Having the ability to have a "blur gradient" could make for some awesome effects! Does anyone know of a way to duplicate this effect without the Affinity folks having to come up with a new widget tool?
  9. I've been messing with the UI, and I'm a little baffled. On the inspector/palette bar there are the typical stroke & fill palettes. But no gradient. For gradient you have to click in the top-side context aware toolbar when selecting a object... which also has copies of the stroke and fill palette (inconsistency?). I've trying dragging the top-bar gradient palette into the permanent right-side palette bar? Nope. I've tried to find a AI windows/tabs list. No. Right clicking on palettes to add? No. How do I get a gradient tab in the palette bar?
  10. Hello and happy holidays, For my current project I've been using the Fill Tool [G] in Designer to edit stroke gradients a lot. The Fill Tool doesn't remember that I'm using the stroke context, though. It's a bit slow to have to click the context dropdown and switch it from Fill (the default) to Stroke every time I switch tools back and forth. Does anyone know a way to either make the Fill Tool remember my context preference, or (preferably) assign a hotkey to toggle between the Fill and Stroke context? This would really help my workflow! I'm on a Mac, Designer 1.6. Thanks!
  11. Hello, Is it possible to make a gradient between severl spot colours in Affinity Designer (without rendering them to Process CMYK)? I just checked, it is possible in Illustrator CC. Thanks, M
  12. Hi, I am a beginner at affinity photo and I am trying to create virtual graduated filters using gradients on adjustment layers but I've ran into a problem: Whenever I try and use the gradient tool there is a weird box. Whenever I edit the gradient points it looks normal but when I let go the gradient is only constrained to the box: (Gradient while mouse is editing one of the points) (Gradient while mouse is not editing the points) Is there anyway I can fix this problem so my image can look normal? Thanks, Jayvin
  13. Hello guys! I'm looking for a way to create gradients that are made of solid bands (show banding), as opposed to have them dithered. I understand that the dither is to make them look smoother. But for a particular project I am working on, I need them with banding. I can accomplish this in Photoshop. Its gradient tool bar has a Dither tick box. So you have the option. I thought I found something similar in Affinity Photo/Designer. In Preferences/Performance>"Dither Gradients". But this tick box doesn't seem to affect the Gradient tool in Photo or the Fill Tool in Designer. Maybe it refers to something else? Any ideas how could I produce such gradients? Many thanks!
  14. Gradients are incredibly difficult to figure out. And when I finally do figure out how to get the stops and their colors right, the little Add Fill to Palette icon on Gradient Swatch panel doesn't save them correctly, so all my work is lost. What's that button there for if it won't actually save the gradient? You won't be able to tell it, but in the attached image, the user interface has seemingly locked up because I tried to change the color of a gradient stop by clicking a color in the Swatch panel. No UI widgets work: no scroll bars or menus or anything. I just have to keep clicking on things and pressing Escape for a minute before the program becomes responsive again. So far I haven't lost work because of this hang, but I haven't figured out exactly what causes it or what I do that finally cures it.
  15. Using Designer 1.6, I have a rectangular shape with a non-uniform (gradient) fill and some text inside, represented by shape #1 above (without the text, of course). I would like to apply a transparency effect where the edges of the shape fade off into being completely transparent. In order to try and describe what I am trying to do here, I made shape #2. I want the inner edge of the black border to be completely opaque with whatever is directly under it, the outer edge be completely transparent, and a gradient transition fill in between. In shape #3, I tried to use the Outline layer effect, as shown here: ...and kind of got what I am trying to do, but not quite. Maybe I need to use a duplicate layer and use it to mask out the border of the original shape? I have a feeling I am really close with this, but missing some step somewhere.
  16. Sometimes I need to affect only a very narrow range. That is impossible with a curve. Here it would be helpful if I could switch from curve-drawing to manual drawing with a pen-tool

  18. Hi there, When using the gradient tool, how can I create multiple gradients in a single layer? I can do this in PS simply by clicking and dragging multiple times. In Affinity Photo, it seems to limit me to one gradient per layer - a bit of a workflow nightmare! Also, is it possible to create gradient presets? It's very time-consuming to change the default colours constantly. Many thanks!
  19. Hi Developers of Affinity, While using your latest windows beta 1.6.0.87 of your lovely Affinity Designer I noticed following odd behavior. 1) If you create rectangle 2) Shear it with transform tool 3) Apply Gradient Overlay layer FX 4) Set the angle 270 degrees (or zero) The gradient will rotate based on Shear not the layer fx degree value as one would expect. Is this feature or bug? Take Care!
  20. Hi, I would like to ad radial gradient overlay effect to an artwork and I'm wondering how can I get rid of the annoying Saturn rings – see screenshot – and make it smooth as possible. Thanks a lot for your help! I'm using Affinity Designer 1.5.5.
  21. I'd like to see an additional Gradient Type added to the option list: Square I find it very useful. Easier than using two linear gradients to get a simple star effect. Here is a screen shot from Corel Draw Thanks for your consideration. Love Affinity Photo on my PC!
  22. hi it seems not possible to use the toll Gradient / type bitmap / choose a bitmap file to fill a shape on the iPad version, as it is possible on Mac OS version It seems also not possible to visualize in iPad a file from Mac OS version with a shape filled with gradient toll / type bitmap those features will be available? thanks
  23. As a new user (using Beta before purchase) I'm not sure how much user-ignorance is involved here, but... a) moving mid-point(s) has no effect on gradient (see attached png) b) To re-visit Gradient for editing, Help file says to Modify Gradient: with Gradient Tool selected, make Layer active, enabling editing stops, position, colours etc. But no Gradient controls appear on gradient. Any advice on this would be welcome
  24. On an JPEG picture a Curves layer was added. With this layer marked as active the gradient tool was opened and a linear gradient drawn. When the gradient color at the dark end should be adjusted to black, the hsl color wheel (and this is valid for other color adjust variant, too) dialog disappears whenever one tries to change anything. The color remains not altered. This is repeatable. The same operation in 1.5.2 works as expected.
  25. When creating a Gradient for a Gradient Map, in order to save it the only option seems to be to click the 'Add Preset' button, which adds it as an adjustment preset. The problem is that there doesn't appear to be any way to import/export these presets. I've instead tried saving gradients as Swatches (as Swatches can be imported/exported), but these don't work properly for Gradient Maps. Is there a way to import/export Gradients for Gradient Maps that I'm overlooking?
