  1. Hi guys, Is there a possibility to change the angle of a gradient stroke? Can the gradient fill tool be also used for strokes somehow? Cheers, Chris
  2. Hi there, I never worked with vector software so this is the first time and I'm not an expert pen tool user. I would like to export an EPS file but my first try was fail. I found tha answer in this forum if I using an FX that's rasterizing the layers. I would like to use correct a vector file. If I remove FX from the file the vector is working. But this FX was a gradient effect through the layers so affected to every object. But I don't know how can I replace the FX to something else. Because if I want to make a gradient that affects only one layer. If I want to use this gradient in every layer the gradients always starting the layers corners and not from the global position. If I make shape as a new color layer with the gradient, the gradient make a background instead of transparency. If I want to use clipping mask I have this very irritating auto fill problem: This tool has a same effect: I hope I was understandable. Thank you very much.
  3. Can I request a rotation option for the fill windows gradient tab. at the moment you can only apply a right to left or visa-versa gradient from there, to rotate the gradient you then have to go to the fill tool, not intuitive at all.
  4. Hi there, When I use the Linear gradient tool to create a new layer, choosing the first point colour as full opacity , black. The second point I set to 0% opacity. Logically speaking, this should result in a visual of dense black pixels, gradually 'fading' to transparent, but with Affinity Photo, it introduces gray pixels in the middle of gradient. This doesn't make any sense to me, and coming from Photoshop where this worked properly, I find it a bizarre way that its been implemented in AP. Am I doing something wrong? Please help. Thanks
  5. Hi folks, off the back of this tweet - https://twitter.com/maisum_thiago/status/1159216372683087874?s=19 regarding Aseprite and copying a small portion of a design and having it repeat within an object (or lined confines) I was wondering if it would be possible to have a similar effect within Designer? Would be a great way to mass fill objects with a polkadot or any repeating texture/fill, kind of like a quasi-brush. Thanks, Rori
  6. Hi I'm working in Publisher - latest version. I'm just struggling to find a way to change a horizontal gradient for a fill to vertical. I created a rectangle and went to the Fill properties of that rectangle. Created a gradient by using the Fill box. Now I want to turn the gradient from horizontal (default) to vertical but I do not find any controls to turn the gradient - neither in the Fill properties box (like a circle controller) nor on the rectangle itself (like a control line). I found a circle controller on the fx Gradient overlay when I switch to Designer persona however now I have a horizontal AND a vertical gradient which was not the intention. Please give me advise how to simply turn the gradient fill in Publisher. Thanks Chris
  7. Hello friends, Do you know how to apply the gradient tool to stroke? Thanks in advance. Regards, Nick
  8. I'm on the latest version of affinity designer, and have created a lot of isometric illustrstions. However, if I export my artwork to svg (web preset), and open them in sketch app, all the gradients are getting converted to images. I switched back to affinity to inspect these gradients, and I found these are just linear gradients without any special filters. If use the same gradients without isometric plane, the svg out retains its vector gradients, but exporting these with the isometric shapes, it's producing raster images. Is it a bug? Any solution to it. Because i have to do a lot of rework in that case. And it's not just sketch, but my front-end guys also showed me the number of images it has. let me know if you have any solution to it. Thanks
  9. This is a video of me talking about a couple of the problems with how Designer deals with color, and likely Affinity Photo as well. And this video should explain at least somewhat well why the gradients are too dark. If there are any Affinity devs active here, a response/acknowledgement of the problem/solution from them would be appreciated. Thanks! P.S. Shortly after I made this vid, I actually did go and buy AD. So I hope even more now that these problems get fixed. Like the point I tried to make in the video, would these issues really be that hard to program out? affinitydesignerproblem.mp4
  10. Please add an option to control eps format. AD rasterize all objects with gradient & transparency. PostScript level 3 is compatible with gradient, Illustrator or even Inkscape can export eps with gradient without rasterzing it. Also Illustrator can export objects with transparency as divided shapes instead of rasterizing it. Refer Illustrator's option panel
  11. Hello, I am unable to preserve an opacity gradient (transparency tool in designer) applied at the group level when exporting to svg format. With option "rasterize unsupported properties", I get a rasterize image With option "rasterize nothing", the gradient disappear Is it a some workaround ? Thanks for your help. gradient.afdesign
  12. Not sure it's a bug but here's what I tried : Open AD 1.7.0.364 bêta on Windows 10 and choose the sample "A" by Nora Toth Explore the layers and select the 1st Ellipse under A > Group > Letter A Try to add noise in the 2 points gradient: when I try it, the noise is not added and if I move the color on the palette to another one, the noise cursor is reset to none (same if the noise is existent > reset to initial value, impossible to remove it). Hope it helps, Best regards, Michel
  13. The gradient tool has gradually been improving. Thanks, folks! One last tweak suggested. Currently: Select gradient tool on left. Draw gradient. Default is white to grey. Ends up with grey node larger than white node as it has the focus. Just fine. Now want to change the grey colour, so select colour patch on context toolbar at top. I arrive at the Gradient tab. However, the left-hand white node is selected in the Gradient dialogue. So to edit the grey node, I have to re-select the right node. If this is not noticed, confusion results. If, however, I select the Colour tab, I can change the grey directly. Whether you go to the Gradient or Colour tab first is really a matter of policy. I'd be happy with either (though prefer Colour as it saves a little time and thinking). What really needs to be changed is that the node selected in the Gradient tab when you arrive there should be the same as the selected node in the drawn gradient.
  14. I've downloaded Affinity Designer Trial to see if I can get it to export an SVG of a purely vector design. For this project, it's incredibly important that the final product be an SVG that has zero rasterized elements in there so it can scale to multiple screen resolutions. The problem is that, while I've got the design looking good (well, as good as I can get it, being a programmer and not a designer!), when I export to SVG **without rasterizing unsupported effects** -- which I thought SVG supported shadows and gradients on a transparent background, right? -- the file has neither of those. I've attached the afdesign doc and a resulting SVG. Tried reading said SVG in Chrome and Firefox as well as Apple's Quick Look (which I believe uses Preview's built in magic magicness) and the shapes and colors are fine, just no drop shadow, no gradient, no transparency. Input appreciated. Thanks all. SVG Looks like this in quicklook: Postal Logo (Affinity) 2.svg Postal Logo 2.afdesign
  15. Hello, I got a small problem. Also have I never used any kind of image editing software before. That's why I might need a while to understand. If I don't express myself well enough please tell me. I'll try again. I added a gradient layer in photo persona. Like the on in the picture down below. When I was kind of done I clicked somewhere else. Afterwards I thought about changing it up again. Just a little bit. But I couldn't get in there again. Everytime it added a completely new gradient layer. But actually I just wanted to change the colors a little bit. Can anyone of you tell me a way to change the gradient pixel layer after I was done editing?
  16. Using Affinity Publisher, I am having difficulty in applying a blended/graduated transparency effect to a color photograph. I'm trying to have a transparency blend to a white area on the bottom, but it keeps making my color photo become black & white. I'm using the graduated tool setting both colors to white/#ffffff and setting one end at 100% and the other at 0%. Can someone help?
  17. Hey guys, I am a relatively inexperienced user and am looking for some advice on how to achieve an effect. So I want to create a gradient overlay from the top of my document to the bottom to affect several layers however these layers need to be at different depths. The couple of ways I know of to do this don't really feel like they fit: 1. Using the Gradient Overlay effect Recreating the effect each time I want to apply it to a new object is obviously super time consuming Gradient is scaled based on the size of the object where I want it to apply across the whole document. 2. Creating a Gradient Object and using blending to apply it to other layers Doesn't respect which layers it should be applied to so can't render the visual hierarchy in the order that I want for overlapping elements. 3. Applying the gradient as a mask layer Can't move elements without repositioning the mask layer. Duplicating the mask layer for each element I want this effect applied to seems inefficient. Below is an example of the kind of effect I want to achieve (Although I will want more directly overlapping elements that intersect each other): Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to achieve this?
  18. Hi there! I need to draw a walnut in black and white for a tattoo however i dont know the best way to do the shading as it has some very strange shapes, is it possible to have more than one gradient in a shape or should i do individual shapes, any advice would be much appreciated, Thanks!!!
  19. This should be simple but I can't figure it out. After I make some edits using the gradient tool I move on. a little later in the editing process, I decided I want to come back to the grdient and change the direction of the gradient or move a node, however, I'm unable to make the gradient tools stuff show up again. What am I doing wrong?
  20. Windows 10 Home 1809, Publisher 1.7.0.227. I'm not sure if this behaviour is correct or not - so I'm not sure if it's a bug or not - but I'll try and explain what's happening. I can create some Artistic Text and use the Transparency Tool to give it a transparent gradient. All well and good. Then I can create another bit of Artistic Text elsewhere the page. However, the transparency gradient of the first bit of text has been copied over to the new text but in exactly the same place as it is in the first text, which means that the transparency gradient no longer covers the second text. Is this expected behaviour? It took me a while to figure out what was happening when I first saw this. I've attached a GIF to show what I mean.
  21. load an image new layer gradient tool, draw a gradient move tool, select gradient layer and resize to smaller than main image draw another gradient on resized layer -- outline of layer in blue seems to be same size as original image, though reduced image layer appears ok. Repeat 4 and 5 Once this resulted in a whole system (win10) crash. Another time AP just bugged out and vanished. Some kind of memory leak or recursive spiral? Couple of processes fighting one another?
  22. So far, so very good. anyone know if there's a gradient mesh tool or something similar? I notice when opening illustrator files, which it does perfectly, designs with a gradient mesh open without the gm. Thank you.
  23. More than 150 ready-made gradiens in .afpalette format. I picked up the best solutions for your creativity. WORK WITH VERSION 1.5 Beta AND HIGHER http://www.demo.egorkomarov.ru/Gradient-palette-for-Affinity-Designer/
  24. I'm really hoping to see the gradient mesh tool. I was always a fan of the way it was implemented in DrawPlus over how Illustrator's worked.
  25. I'm trying to touch-up my Drone photos, but they look horrible in Affinity Photo compared to Windows Preview or even Gimp Here, the original file has a very very smooth gradient coming from that lamp. But as soon as I open the file in Affinity Photo, the glow from the lamp turns in to blocky color bands.. It's almost like it tries to convert it to web-only colors or something because the quality is horrible. (below, you will probably see some banding in your web-browser, it's actually WORSE in Affinity Photo) Download this image and view it locally, to see it without banding. If you still see banding when you open it locally, sorry your monitor sucks
