  1. Create an object and apply a global color to it. Editing the said global color changes the object as expected. Then convert that object into a symbol. Changing the global color no longer changes the object. Say that you now apply the global color to this symbol object, it starts working again as expected, but only for that instance. If you delete it and drag in another instance the global color will no longer work again. See attached video for steps to reproduce. Thanks! 2_Trim.mp4
  2. I'm listing this as a Designer bug, but it happens in all 3 apps. How to trigger: Open/show the Swatches panel On the panel dropdown menu select "Add Global Colour" Once the dialog box opens, press the Tab key on once your keyboard The colour mode dropdown should be selected Press up (or down) key on your keyboard Instead of the next colour mode, the list separator is selected as shown in the image below This only works until you select a colour mode on that drop list with your mouse. Once you activate this drop list with your mouse, the bug can no longer be triggered until you close (and reopen) this dialog box. Thanks!
  3. Here is my experience with the Global Colors problem. Created a Document Palette. ‘Upon adding a Global Color to the palette, I can’t add another one. Why not? I’m in my newly created palette… Wrong. Menu says I’m in my created palette. I’m actually in Recents. I need to switch to my created palette, that the menu says I’m already in, in order to add more Global Colors. ‘I’m going to go ahead and call this a bug. Who’s with me? RPReplay_Final1670441685.mp4
  4. In Affinity Designer it seems there is no way to change the opacity of global colors. This is becoming frustrating when designing UIs. Opacity is an integral part of color schemes in Google's Material Design; it completely depends on opacity to create visual hierarchy. From Google's Material Design Guidelines: "Using opacity instead of shifting colors often creates better contrast and relative luminance. For example, gray text (#727272) becomes hard to read if the background color changes to magenta." Is this feature on your road map?
  5. I've searched around and while I see people asking about this, doesn't seem like there's any kind of formal request for this feature so here's one. Essentially it's what the title says, please add the ability to create, edit and apply global colour swatches in illustrations and designs done on the iPad. Global colours are a fundamental part of vector design and illustration, the need for this is vital! Right now the only workaround is to create them on the desktop and then open the file on the iPad, but this has limitations besides not being able to edit the swatches on the device itself. For example if you apply a global to an object, the swatches panel will not indicate in any way that the colour is apply to the object, unlike in the desktop where you can see the swatch highlighted. Thanks!
  6. Let's say you add two fills to an object with the Appearance Panel, and to each fill you attribute a different global colour. If you later modify both global colours you'd expect both fills on the object to change appearance. Instead only the active fill changes. The attached video shows the steps to reproduce. Thanks! 1_Trim.mp4
  7. Hello, I have a problem. I want to create a PDF for printing. The background should be transparent except where the photo is. The photo should be backed with the special color "Spot1". Can someone explain how to do this?
  8. I was waiting for the actual 1.9 beta to come out before posting this, but since it doesn't look like it's coming any time soon, I might as well post it in advance. Even if work in the UI has already started, I still think it's relevant to post this. If for nothing else then to make sure you avoid doing the global colours editor UI in the same disastrous way Adobe did with Illustrator for the iPad released today. To avoid the above you must understand one thing, the whole point of global colours is to finely tune the colours of our illustrations, in real time. This means you must see the colours change within the illustration as you tweak the swatch. As such you must do your best to avoid obscuring parts of the canvas, no full screen editors please. Another point with these mockups is to create them reusing as much of the existing UI as possible, so the amount of work needed to create this is reduced. This is a critical feature that has been missing for way too long, let's not delay it any further by requesting unique UI elements just for it. With that out of the way, let's get started. 1. The first step in editing global colours is to actually have some. For that you need to have a way to add them to the colour palette. A simple 'add global colour' entry on the existing flyout menu will do. The swatch will be further tweakable down the line, so this is enough or now. 2. Now that global colour swatches exist, you must be able to apply them. For that you'll need an indicator showing the swatch is applied, a simple blue circle around the swatch will do. This is the same colour as used in many other controls throughout the app. On the next point I'll show these swatches as a grid instead of a list. 3. We must be able to apply global swatches to things beyond simple shapes. Right now we're not able to apply any swatches, even regular ones, to things like layer effects. For global colours to be maximally effective this must change, we need a UI to select and apply swatches to things other than shapes. Here I'm showing how this would look when applying a global colour to a colour overlay layer effect. 4. Now that global colours are applied, we need to edit them. This is where I ran into a possible UI inconsistency issue. What makes sense to me would be to long press a swatch, choose 'Edit' from a popup, and be taken to a panel for that effect like shown in point 5. The thing is, I don't think there's any instance where a popup menu like this takes us to a subpanel? And like I said at the start, if I want to minimize UI changes in order to deliver this as fast as possible... ... so if the above is an issue, then another solution can be used. Instead of long pressing the swatch, we could instead head to the Colours panel and have it behave in a way similar to the desktop version. That is showing a tint slider with a button linking to the colour editor. 5. Time to tweak the actual colour values Independent of the design option chosen above, you'll end up on this panel to edit your global colour. You'll be able to tap the swatch name to change it, and more importantly change the colour values while you keep the canvas in sight at all time. Once you're done you can simple back out into other panels or tap away to close it. Add... that's it. I'm open to take any feedback, and I'm sure the developers would like that too. However, remember that we must reuse as much of the UI as possible, so this critical feature can be delivered as soon as possible. Thanks!
  9. This is the third global colors issue I reported just today. While the other two could be considered kind of niche or harder to spot, this one is dead obvious. You guys really, really, really need to spend a whole version just tearing down the Swatches panel and rebuilding it in a way that's user friendly and that actually works well in all situations. Select an object. On the Swatches panel press the add current color as global color. That's it, that's all it takes to reproduce. 🤨 You'd obviously expect the object to have the newly created global swatch applied. It doesn't. You need to actually click on the newly created swatch for it to be applied to the object... Attached is a video reproducing the issue. Really consider spending 100% of the time for version 1.9 rebuilding the Swatches panel. Managing colors is a fundamental part of well done graphic design, guessing if our swatches will work on a given situation is not acceptable. Thanks! 3_Trim.mp4
  10. Is there a way to export global document colors to the SVG in a centralized way? eg. style/linearGradient or solidColor So as to be able to change one line of code and have all affected elements change their color at once! Thanks!
  11. Let's say I've created two global colors: G1 and G2. I insert some objects and assigned them G1 color with different transparency, tint and noise values. If I change the G1 color everything works fine. But if I assign G2 color to them, all attributes are resseted. BTW, you should put tint slider together with opacity and noise sliders.
  12. Hi! I've recently got access to an iPad Pro and I've been dabbling with Affinity Designer. Great stuff, but I've ran into limitations that break my colouring workflow. First let me explain how I do it on the desktop: Draw a vector shape Apply a global colour to this shape Create a pixel layer inside the shape Apply a Colour Overlay effect to the pixel layer Attribute a global colour to the above effect Draw on this layer, the pixel brush colour doesn't matter since the Overlay effect always overrides it Repeat steps 3. to 6. for every colour I want to draw inside the shape Move on to the next shape and start from 2. again This way if I want to change any colour after the fact, all I have to do is edit the global colours and all parts of the illustration respond accordingly, even the pixel layers. The iPad version of Affinity Designer does not have global colours, nor it does not support attributing swatches to layer effects... this fundamentally breaks the method of controlling colours described above... I've already requested both features on the appropriate forum, but until they get implemented I'd need an alternative method. My question is, what alternative methods of recolouring the artwork should I use? What do you use when you want to recolour the artwork after you're done? Thanks in advance!
  13. Hey! Today I noticed an odd thing: Setting up global colors in a document. Apply it to object with multiple strokes and/or fills. Deselect the object or switch from fill to stroke color in the color panel or the other way round. Change the settings of a global color used in one of the strokes of the object (that is changing color values). If the stroke of that global color is active the color changes. If another stroke is active the non-active stroke's color looses connection to the global color. Then I have to activate it again in the appearance panel and reassign it. Hope this it is understandable - I tried it with fills too with the same issue. All the best, Chris
  14. It would be really fantastic if it were possible to create global color sets - swatch collections that vary the colors on global swatches, where just selecting a different set gives the ability to rapidly test and edit different color combinations.
  15. I have a document with some embedded icons with multiple colors. The document is a web page. The icons are inside of this web page. I have global colors for the web page document. When I open the embedded document by double clicking it, I don't see my global colors from the 'web page' document. Since I am experimenting with the colors as a whole, changing them all at once, it does not make sense to 'export' the colors from the web page document, just to use them in the embedded document to get the colors in there, as they will change. It seems counter intuitive to have to open this embedded document and not have my global colors from the web page document available to make changes. I should be able to edit the global color and have it effect the colors on the web page document and the embedded document. How can I do this?
