affinity designer Superfurry animals - Squirrel monkey
IsabelAracama posted a topic in Share your work
This time a Humboldt's squirrel monkey from the Saimiri genus. Affinity Designer pixel persona 100% - Roughly one single brush pressure on, pressure off.Challenging to get the colours always right as I try to pick form the wheel and not using the colour picker. It helps to train better the artist's eye. I also leave here this time-lapse I have created. I explain a bit some differences I find when painting in Designer vs Photo.- 8 replies

Hi everyone. Most of my photos are animals and I love to extract them and place them on new backgrounds but, the inevitable, getting fur and whiskers selected is always a challenge. In Affinity Photo I just did a selection and then refined the selection (of a tiger with a horrible background) and then saved to new layer with mask. However, part of the tiger's head didn't get refined very well and I've lost all whiskers too. How can I get back into 'refine mask' or is there anything I could do better to speed up this wort of work? Thanks. Martin

Hi. I am attempting to place an animal on to a new background. The one I've shown here is just a practice run using a tiger that had a lousy background but the photo isn't what matters, I chose this one because it is difficult to mask. I have 2 layers; the tiger and the background are different layers. I masked the tiger out of the background and refined the selection as best I could figure out on my first attempt in Affinity Photo on iPad Pro. However, I am struggling with a few things; getting a better refined mask and fixing that slight light edge on the tiger. So I'm hoping for any suggestions for fixing this or a link to a tutorial. I've searched but not found a tutorial that covers selective darkening (brushing an area to darken it) and how to get perfect masking around fur. Thanks for reading and I hope this made sense. Martin

Meet Blue Bunny, he's a happy little fellow... :) Continuing the Bunny series from some client concept sketches that never got beyond the proof phase. Thought I'd try something different on this one and play with some pixel painting texturing and also attempt at adding fur to this little guy. The fur is made up of repeating individual groups of "fur shapes" copying, rotating, skewing, repeat... each with transparent gradients and blur to add softness and hide some of the edges and yes it was a lot of work... ;) Really loving the ease of vector and pixel workflow!
