  1. Here is a library of abstract fonts from my font library. Each font has its own license agreement in its own folder. Most are completely free to use but some may be for personal use only. Check each before use. They are grouped and stored in a zip file. A useful resource of Truetype fonts. AbstractFonts.zip
  2. I don't have an Adobe CC subscription but am thinking of getting a Typekit Portfolio plan - will I be able to access these fonts in Affinity Designer? Thanks for any help.
  3. Here are the font files which are distributed with implementations of LATEX. The publishing solution that is script based. For anyone who likes the fonts they are included in this CM.7z file. Different formats are included for your own choice. They can be used in other applications but remember these are optimised fonts for printed materials and don't look that good on screen. The Latin Modern are slightly better quality in my opinion. CM.7z For more fonts from the LATEX catalogue go to https://www.tug.org/FontCatalogue/
  4. Hello as it seems from this thread that I was looking for a solution, there is some short of problem with affinity designer reading some fonts. @LibreTraining describe it better in the above thread than I could. So if you please take a look on what he is saying about the fonts, I'm not that into the technical part to re-describe it myself here. Thanks for your hard work
  5. Good afternoon, I would like to know how to download new fonts (and where find them) on Publisher ? Thanks a lot for your help :-)
  6. I started a thread in feedback on font organization but now honestly this issue has turned into a bug or a glitch and wanted to address it here. My original request/complaint was that Affinity Publisher (or any Affinity product) could handle font organization better, grouping the widths together as a condensed/normal/extended format. Adobe does it this way and it works well. Now however, I sent feedback to a font foundry because I thought they had mislabeled SemiExpanded to be wider that Expanded. They told me it was the case with my software not their font. I looked again and realized they were correct and want to share a screen grab from Affinity and another from Photoshop to compare. Please see how the weights and widths organization is messy but the optical illusions of the widths. It seems the word length is squeezing down the sizes as well. Since Affinity Publisher is a master layout assembly tool especially where typography plays a critical role, and where many designers use thousands of fonts and many superfamilies that are extremely difficult to navigate through in the current font organization scheme, I ask for the fonts to be displayed as they are with Adobe. This would help tremendously. I love Affinity products but this is issue a thing to deal with.
  7. ("W.a.d." in subject-line stands for "working as designed".) Before I call this a bug I'll post about it here — see if there's some "w.a.d." behavior I'm just not aware of. The situation: a block of text entered in a font (from Google Fonts) called Cormorant Garamond Semibold. I decide to add a run-in subhead using a font named Mukta (also from Google Fonts). I decide later to move the run-in subhead to a different paragraph. So I highlight that text, and the spaceband (old typesetter term meaning a word space) that follows it, and press Control+X. Immediately the baselines of all lines in the paragraph shift upward by a couple of points. I press Control+Z to undo the change. The baselines return to where they were before. I re-select the inline subhead, but this time I don't include the spaceband that follows it. Again I cut the text with Control+X. This time the baseline does not shift upward. Next test: I select the run-in subhead and simply delete it, leaving the spaceband behind (it is now the first character in the paragraph). No baseline shift. Then I delete the spaceband. The baselines shift again. Later, after making a few point-size changes to the run-in subhead, I can't replicate the unexpected baseline-shift behavior. When it was happening, I checked the baseline offset value in the Character panel and it was the same for all text (it was the nominal point size value for the paragraph as a whole). Whatever the culprit might be, this kind of thing could play complete havoc with a publication's baseline grid and so: wotthehell might be going on here? Ring any bells?
  8. Hello there... First of all I'd like to say that Affinity Designer is a very pleasant and easy software to use. Thank you for your contributions to creativity! This is my complaint and suggestion: It takes way too long to start up. After I start up Designer, it typically takes about 6 to 8 minutes for the program to start and finally loaded to be used. However, I think this might have to do with the fact that I have over 8,000 fonts on my computer....but here's the thing - some of us are designers (get the joke?), and it is VERY reasonable to have up to 8000 fonts on your computer. To be honest, I signed up to this forum, confirmed my email address, and started writing this post, and Designer has not even finished loading. My computer has a quad-core Intel i7 processor, and 16GB of RAM and over 500GB free diskpace, running Windows 10. Also I usually have very few programs (light on resources) running at once. My suggestion: It is probably a bad idea for Designer to scan and record ALL the fonts on a system before the program is use-able. I might suggest even building the fonts database progressively, even after the program has started. Its possible to start the program with only 'Favourites' fonts loaded at the start, and then progressively adding fonts in batches. Just to keep loading and start time to a minimum. I know there are designers who have over 12k fonts on their computers. Would they have to wait 9 minutes before they can use Designer? I feel there is some merit to this idea about progressivly scanning and adding fonts (I do a humble amount of coding myself). To support my point, I am sure that over half every single use of Affinity Designer does not involve text or fonts within the first few minutes. They are probably first working with shapes, lines, color, etc. Please try to fix this issue. With all politeness, it is unacceptable for a program to take 5 to 8 minutes to start. By that time, its easy to even lose any motivation or creative ideas you might have wanted to create. Thank you very much.
  9. All the fonts are unsorted how can I fix it?
  10. Hello, I started to have font issues recently. I'm currently using Design build 1.7.3 Impossible to display my Chalet™, FF Cocon™ and different other fonts that easily show up in Photoshop. They are also unaccessible in Publisher and Affinity Photo. Thx for your help, this is really uncomfortable to work with... N.
  11. Hi. When I try selecting a font from my installed font list, the fonts show up not sorted quiet alphabetically. It is strange. My other apps on iPad show proper alphabetically sorted list. Also, is there a search box to search for a specific font from installed font list? Both these make it difficult to find fonts. Thanks
  12. I have over 1.400 fonts installed on my MacBook (Catalina 10.15.3). When I create "artistic text", input any text inside and try to change the font by searching through all my fonts, after a few inputted letters in search Designer simply crashes. No report is given, no chance to recover any document and not a word about the crash when starting Designer again.
  13. Hi I am trying to write in bangla in affinity designer but it showing incorrectly. I wrote this word `গর্ভবতী` but show incorrectly. I attached the screenshot please have a look

  16. Hey! when trying to open a PSD file which contains fonts not on my system - i don't get any message notifying me about this issue. I know that PDF import let me know when a font is missing but why this is not working for PSD files?
  17. Hi Very weird thing, I'm using this font called "Rockness", and it displays perfectly fine in Adobe Suite yet when I try and type the same thing in Affinity I get this. Doesn't really matter what I type, the whole character mapping seems all over the place. Frustratingly I'm not having to go back to Adobe CS just to type out this line. Any explanation appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  18. Hello, I have a problem with a PDF file (60 pages) with replacement fonts. These are the following fonts: GaramontAmstSB_Roma and SH_Medium; Univers, Light, Light Oblique,46LightLta and 66Boldlta. I am offered Lucida Grande as replacement font. After opening, headlines with the replaced and are displayed incorrectly: the letters are actually in uppercase. They are now displayed in lower case and partly in the middle of the word in upper case. In the app pdf Element pro the fonts are displayed without problems and there is no need for a replacement font. I use Affinity Publisher 1.8.1 and MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 Is there a replacement font or possibilities to correct these errors in the display through settings. Thanks for help and advice
  19. (This subforum is not really the right place for this, but I’d like to have it found where people might look for it.) As most of you are aware, the Affinity apps can’t handle included fonts in PDFs, they always try to parse the PDF and do a good job about that, except they can’t use the embedded fonts but try to replace them with fonts installed/active on your system. Often you don’t have these fonts and must not replace them, e.g. if you get ads from a customer. There’s no possibility (yet) to “just place” a PDF as an image. You could rasterize the PDF into a high resolution bitmap – but not with one of the Affinity apps, and if you wanted to use Photoshop, you wouldn’t use Affinity... The best solution is to convert the text in curves. You can do that with Acrobat Pro, but I am here to avoid “Clay” apps. It’s easy with GhostScript on the command line: gs -dNoOutputFonts -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -o Myfile_nofonts.pdf Myfile.pdf Or to convert all files in a folder: for PDF in *.pdf; do gs -dNoOutputFonts -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -o "${PDF/.pdf/_nofonts.pdf}" "$PDF"; done You must first change into that folder, of course. And have GhostScript installed; you can get it via HomeBrew or MacPorts (there are also binary packages around I guess). (EDIT: The quotes around $PDF are necessary if your file names contain spaces.)
  20. Windows 10 Pro 1909, Affinity Photo\Designer 1.8.0.585, Microsoft Surface Book 2 I worked on a file for about an hour this afternoon after updating Photo and Designer. After I saved my file in Photo and got home from work, I opened the file and the fonts were all different. Every font I selected would bounce to another font and I couldn't select the one I wanted. After closing and reopening, the application started crashing on launch. I tried to uninstall and reinstall Photo and the crashing is still happening. I tried to select Yes when it asked if I wanted to enable error reporting but I'm not sure it even gets time to send anything since it crashes very fast still. I tried holding Ctrl to get the clear data dialog and tried just Reset Font Replacements. That did not solve the issue and the crashing resumed on following attempts. So I checked the first three as I saw on another thread and that reset all my tool bar preferences and stuff but the font thing is still happening and it's crashing seemingly randomly. Designer is experiencing the same crashing and font issues when I manage to get it running. On the first run after I cleared the first three items on the clear data dialog, the application hung when I tried the Frame Text Tool. 21. I've noticed that affinity photo is slowing down a lot, and I've downloaded lots of fonts from google and I want to remove the ones I no longer use, but I can't. I can't find any information on this at all and simply deleting the file doesn't do anything. Can anyone help me please?
  22. Hello everyone. First I am sorry if this is duplicate or there is answer already (if there is I will be deeply obliged to anyone who can answer to me). Also may be I am incompetent - I do not want to say anything bad, and this may not be bug, but my fault (not knowing some setting for example). However - here is my problem. First the problems with the fonts - fonts are basically the main building block when you make any publication regardless of the type of it. My first and main problem now is that Cyrillic fonts are not properly recognized and give error message of "Unsupported characters used" unless the font is .OTF - so no post script for example. When we make publications, catalogs, magazines, whatever - there is variety of fonts that are used and if they have Cyrillic encoding recognized by the other programs, and in this case there is Cyrillic encoding and it is recognized in variety of programs, the client wants to use it. But the program does not. Also the program uses some other fonts that it uses to substitute - but I cannot see what is used neither where - at least I was not able to make it to highlight the missing and substituted fonts - just the exclamation marker on my Character panel if i go locate it manually and then in font manager - this error message. I tried to see what is going on and yes this is the same - regardless if I open document, PDF or I create brand new document with Publisher itself. It also does not recognize the fonts styles - here is an example what I mean: We bought PostSript 1 - the font have Cyrillic and Latin and it has 12 styles - From Light all the way to black. The font works when you use Latin but not the Cyrillic symbols. However - when you want to use it to substitute other font, the font manager always show you Light style - regardless that you may have chosen to use Black (it will draw it properly by the way, just you cannot see the choice you have made). This particular font is PostScript type 1 again, tried with multiple of those. However I am sure for Post Script 1 and do not know if it counts for other fonts also, but it makes your choices very restricted regardless of how many fonts you bought. If a font have Cyrillic and all other programs are seeing it, and can use it, I cannot say the client that he cannot use it just because my program does not support it. I hope this is all my fault but it looks like bug in the application for Mac. I am using and having this issue on mac OSX 10.11.6 in this case, currently searching for workaround, by the way. I bought the program for Windows also - and there is no problem with Post Script 1 type fonts on it. Also would like to ask what is the way to see what font have substituted the missing or "wrong" font and where -is there way to highlight it so it will be at a glance. Best Regards.
  23. Hi guys. We're really missing the feature to open PDF's with baked embedded fonts. I understand that this feature is why many still clins on to Photoshop, like my self. Please make this feature a reality!? We have been waiting for this for several years now...
  24. I watched an Affinity Designer tutorial instructing me to download fonts from the trusted site ‘dafont.com.’ The video had me get the FontManager app to download the fonts from dafont.com and this was working wonderfully until the latest iOS update (iOS 13.1.3). I need to download holiday fonts ASAP for work related designs so can anyone tell me another way to do this? Much appreciated! -Devin D
