  1. I've been looking at some development of a very impressive auto-fill filter for lineart on G'mic and thought it would be something the Affinity devs might be interested in. Basically, it analyses artwork with an algorithm to determine contours and shape closures which can then be filled as a base for painting. It speeds up a monotonous colour blocking step of painting. Not a priority feature at the moment, but I thought it would be an amazing addition for illustrators working with raster imagery. I'm sure affinity could simplify the tool even more for usability. I've posted two videos that demonstrate how it works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-3aBQeuBc4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl76PJZTuio
  2. When I do Document / Fill, the color is applied to the whole layer. How to protect alpha?
  3. Currently, The Edit / Fill command fills up the entire layer. It would be very handy to have the option to protect the alpha in order to fill in only the content of the layer. There's a discussion here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/30465-fill-protecting-alpha/
  4. Hi, I need a precise gradient in 32-bit mode, to go from left to right. (I use it as a texture in a game - the values control some math functions over time.) The "Noise" value is set to 0 (or so I guess, because there is no numerical input). Yet still there is a visible dither. I use version 1.5.0.35. Win 7 64-bit, NVidia GTX 760, newest drivers. 5. Newbie question... was trying to define an area and then fill it. Somehow I defined an area that now shows "running dashes" (for lack of a more accurate description) and I CANNOT DELETE/REMOVE this area from my document. Appreciate the help. (first couple of days with Affinity Designer!)
  6. How do I get rid of the line inside of my objects that separates my outline from the filled area? What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help! MOOP.tiff
  7. Is it possible to assign separate blend modes for an object stroke and fill with Affinity Designer? For instance I'd like to apply a blend mode of Multiply to the black fill of a rectangle but want to leave the white stroke color as normal. I have this same question for opacities as well. I ask because I'm able to do this in Illustrator and use it all the time. If there is another way of approaching this in Designer w/o having to duplicate the object (one for fill and one for stroke), please enlighten. Thanks!
  8. Web developer here, bought Affinity Designer in hopes of switching off Adobe completely. The app was great, got the job done, then I go to export the icon as an SVG and... it saves the color black as "fill:#000". Why Affinity why? :( It should save the color black with no fill tag at all, which will still appear as black, but lets web developers like me then alter the color dynamically via CSS. svg { fill: #888; } Am I hopefully just missing this setting somewhere? Kinda breaks the whole process of making svg icons. I don't want to have to use some important rule or something to overrule such a silly mistake.
  9. Hi guys, I'm new here to the forum and new to affinity designer. So far I'm loving the software, however I seemed to have ran into a bit of a problem, It's kind of hard to explain but, whenever I draw something with the pen tool on a new layer it always starts out with no fill, I click on the “use fill” check box which seems to solve the problem temporarily, but then when I draw another shape in the same layer the settings goes back to no fill & no stroke on the new shape and I have to click 'use fill' again. Also when I go to edit a shape that I previously made, the fill and stroke disappear and the settings just automatically reset to no fill & no stroke, and I have to go back and choose the colour I had previously... is there anyway to fix this? And is there any way I can use the fill option by default without having to click it every time I make a new shape?
  10. Hello, Ronnie McBride created a really nice rope brush for me and I am wondering if it's possible to apply a fill to the brush shape, not the path which the brush follows? The image I am working on now is attached and what I am trying to do is fill the rope shape with a fill. I've tried a few things but it seems the brush pattern isn't recognized as a shape to fill? The only way I found I could add a fill is to rasterize the path with the rope brush applied.. is that the answer?
  11. Is there a way to use the transparency tool to only apply on the fill or just the stroke of the object… I cannot seem to find a checkbox or setting for this to only affect a particular attribute. Thanks!
  12. I stumbled upon a bug which happens when I: 1. have a fill layer (ie. by opening a Photoshop file that has one) 2. deselect the fill layer, if it is selected 3. switch to stroke in the color panel 4. select the fill layer 5. change the color using the color panel Now the fill layer can be transformed like any other shape, the color isn't correct, and if I change the document size using "anchor to page", the fill layer is rendered with a weird pattern at the edges, like this: I'm using 1.5.0.11 Normal Fill Layer.afdesign Corrupt Fill Layer.afdesign
  13. In a previous build there was a slider for adding noise to a fill: a great option, but I can't find it now! Has it gone, or have I simply been looking in the wrong places?
  14. It would be a very useful feature to copy the features of a text , color type, size and color contour like Corel Draw funcion.
  15. Hi all. I included this in a thread in the bug-report area, but it really belongs here. I think consolidating the fill controls into a single panel would clarify their use for users. Currently, an object's fill control presents a series of tabs that offer conflicting functions. The tabs represent different types of fills and are exclusive of each other; therefore I submit that these fill types should be offered in a drop-down list and not as tabs. When the user selects a fill type, the panel can display the appropriate set of controls in the panel and the appropriate on-canvas controls (like gradient angle), which currently do not appear at all when using the Fill control panel for an object. Also, the current panel for gradients can be improved by indicating to the user that he needs to click on those circles to set colors and properties, and indicating which of the controls pertain to the selected control point and which pertain to the entire gradient. A colored highlight makes the current selection more clear than simply having a bigger circle and smaller circle (and that size difference isn't even shown on first use of the panel; I assume this is a bug). Users should be able to right-click in that gradient display to insert, delete, copy, or paste control points. Currently it doesn't seem that there's any way to determine where a new one will be inserted. All of the current buttons, except Delete, suffer from major ambiguity: If I press Insert, where will the new point go? If I copy one, how do I paste it? Or does Copy here actually mean Duplicate? Without some hint, however, I don't think users would ever guess that they could add more control points. And then a bunch of Affinity's work would go to waste. I vote for putting a label below the gradient display instead of the buttons, instructing users to right-click to add or manipulate control points. It's more clear, and space-efficient to boot. And finally, I had no idea what "stop" meant. I guessed it was some kind of option for determining what should happen beyond the end of the gradient, but of course the functions offered by those buttons didn't seem to make sense in that context. In any similar type of editor, I see "control point" used more than any other term. I think the flexibility of Designer's fill function is remarkable! Some revision of the UI will help users find it and take advantage of something that Affinity clearly put quite a bit of effort into.
  16. Hi, please If you could explain to me which is the difference between the Transparent and the Fill tool, for me they look like do the same thing but has to has some differences
  17. I have a question. In illustrator is something like Live Paint Bucket that allow you to easy filling objects. Is there something like that in AD? Or need to redraw everything using pentool and fill ii with colour? For example I have toothed gear that I want to colour, made it using some circles and lines. Second thing is there a way to 'Origin' point, eg. in the center of circle and move/rotate everything by exactly this point? Its showed there. Maybe its already that in AD, but couldn't find it and searching didn't show something usefull.
  18. Is there a way of selecting the same fill colour in affinity designer? Thanks for your assistance in advance sarah
  19. Coming from a Photoshop user of about 20 years and at the risk of sounding dumb I have to ask ... Is there a paint bucket somewhere and I am missing it or do I have to use the fill tool? I WILL NOT pay a monthly fee to use Photoshop and have just been lost trying to learn a new program when I'm SO at home using Photoshop. :( I'm hoping to LOVE all Affinity programs if I can just get the hang of something new! Thanks for any help! :D
  20. Hi. I've attached a picture. The background rectangle is set to black, but appears as dark grey when I use a black glow on the photo. I want the black glow of the edge of the photo to disappear seamlessly into the black rectangular background. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance!
  21. 1) HSL Color Wheel - Please ad Hex code box, I use HSL a majority of my design, but when my client wants his hex color choices I want to be able to quickly in HSL just do a hex code. 2) ANY color picker option - Please make the CLOSE highlighted so I can just hit enter. 3) Add short cut for New Fill Layer in the Adjuments Icon menu
  22. Anyone aware of a way to apply noise fill to a multiple selection of objects? I've been doing a workaround with a layer over the top and multiply, but it's not exactly what I'm after. If not, can I request it as a feature? :)
  23. I've just switched over from Photoshop CC. One of the features I used pretty regularly in Photoshop was its 'context-aware fill'. Basically, given a single image (not a stack), I could select an area in a picture, delete that area, and Photoshop would fill in the background from the area surrounding the one that I deleted. For example, if I have taken a nice picture of a church, but there's a car in its parking lot, I could select the car (and just a small bit of its surrounding area) and delete the car. Photoshop would fill in the background of the parking lot to replace the deleted car. Does Affinity Photo have a similar feature? I thought I saw something similar in the demo video, but I can't find a tutorial or forum post on the subject. Thanks for your help.
  24. Hi! I am one of the movers from PS to Affinity ;-) There's one thing I am really missing: In PS I can easily fill areas with patterns. There are lots of patterns that come with PS, and I can find many on the internet and load them into PS. But, more important than that: In effects functionality I can use the STRUCTURE of patterns to overlay the other fx (like color, gradient, shadow etc.). This makes big letters look great (structured) in spite of just one color or a gradient. And I can adjust the depth and scale the effect. Great! Please add this pattern functionality, especially in the effects section, to Affinity products! :-) Best, Dietmar
  25. Hi All! I too am making the leap from Adobe to Affinity. I use Photo from an illustration perspective, working with scanned-in drawings, removing the white backgrounds, and then going crazy cutting things out, resizing, arranging, coloring, etc. It's been great so far, just getting used to where things are in Affinity Photo. My question here is: I see how one can paint an alpha channel only (equivalent to locking pixels on a layer in PS), but how do you bulk fill an alpha channel (i.e. locked pixels) on a layer? In PS, you can select the layer (with locked pixels), choose a color, and either select "fill"from the drop-down menu, or "option/command-delete". Does anyone know the equivalent in Affinity Photo? I hope that makes sense! Thanks in advance!
