  1. Hello, It's been the second time that the following error description was shown after I tried to open my file. The first time I simply began the project again, but since the second file produced the same error, I think it's a bug. To give you some context: I was working on a newspaper we had to do for a school French project. I'm working on Windows 10 (64). The error was shown, wenn I restarted the Computer after some hours and tried to continue working on the project. I saved the file on an external hard disk. I wasn't able to find a logfile so I just copied the error warning. EDIT: I uploaded the second file that isn't working and a PDF I created of my first file. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Or is this a bug that has nothing to do with my computer or project but with the application? Thank you for your support. Greetings, Touuubie Zeitung.afpub Zeitung.pdf
  2. Will there be import format options in Publisher. Like many I suspect, I have existing files in other native formats. Most of mine are in InDesign. Will there be a way to import these other formats into the release version of Publisher? Just started looking through the beta and I'm liking a lot of what I see.
  3. I’m working on a big project both on Affinity Photo for the Mac and the iPad, and the project file has very different sizes when saved on the iPad vs when saved on the Mac. In this particular case, the project takes up 500+ MB when saved on the Mac, and only ~370 MB when saved on the iPad. My my only guess is some compression is happening on the iPad (lossless, I hope). What is actually going on here?
  4. I was wondering if it would be interesting to create space for a notes field in the file properties (I'm aware I'm opening a can of worms there, IMHO there should also be room for data such as creator, company and copyright which then inevitably segways into a discussion about EXIF data too - allow me to stay away from that for now). I've seen someone talk about a description/information layer but that's inside the design, what I'm talking about is the ability to store meta data with the document which describes content, with or without tags and other fun stuff that you could actually search for if the search facility, file system or DAM supports it. At the moment, the only means to store data with a design is to add a box somewhere with some description or rely on a DAM to add external tags to a file which can get lost and which do not travel with the file in a makeshift collaborative environment. Ironically, document properties are a default feature in wordprocessors such as MS Office and LibreOffice which are the one facility that needs it less because you can actually search in the file contents - no such luck with graphics.. Opinion?
  5. I just went to replace an image on an AD document and noticed this new option for Embed/Link. I haven't seen this mentioned on any changelogs - have you accidentally pushed out the feature too early? I also noticed images I tried to rename on my computer were throwing up an error because the file was 'already open in Affinity Designer', so it seems to be working.
  6. I did not save a recent affinity designer file. Where would I find the recovered version of the file? I had saved a png of the file, but I no longer have the original file, except for the recovered versions.
  7. In the past I (and others reported) had some corrupted files, especially I had for example a crash at program start because of a corrupted AppData-Affinity-Folder, that later turned out to be a corrupt assets.propcol file. I don't have the broken files any longer, but I was thinking about a way of recovering data out of such corrupt files. Is there already a tool or command line switch or other way to try to recover such files? If I think I would manage all my assets and brushes in those files and out of a sudden it get's unusable for the Affinity program, I would go crazy. It would be good to have a tool that could try to read the file and try to recover as much as it could and write a new file with all that could be recovered (keeping and not writing to the corrupt file of course). Maybe rewriting header or stuff like that, or if it can't detect the file from the file itself, that someone can say, hey this was an assets.propcol file for example and then it tries to recreate it.
  8. Hi. Recently I wanted to make an Affinity Designer importer for Unity3D, but I didn't find any documentation about what are the Affinity files and there is no documentation about it. It would be awesome to have some information about them, then we will be able to add some more plugins and importers and extend affinity designer. For example, we need documentation for .afphoto and .afdesign files. Thanks.
  9. 1. The Most marketplace is requesting .ai file format, is it possible to export file format to .ai? I hope marketplace slowly can accept .afdesign next. 2. Is it possible to shorten the file format? maybe .ad .afd .afde or other shorther formats. it is just my thinking, may be a further development material. Thank You
  10. The file I was working on since two days just broke after saving it. It is not possible to open it any more - "The file type is not supported." It seems like the file size has shrunk down - but that's just a guess..
  11. I think it would be an excellent idea to open up the file format shared between Photo and Designer so it can be embraced by 3rd party tools like Invision, Avocode and Zeplin.
  12. Does the .afdesign file have an icon like photoshop has? Or does it just use the programs icon?
  13. Hey AD pals, help here would be greatly appreciated. I have a logo design done on my MacBook with AffinityDesigner 1.5.4 and have it set up as a document on an artboard with both vertical and horizontal Cut and Bleed lines visible on the document in all 3 Personas. The Cut and Bleed lines were done 'by the book' using the menu item 'Guides Manager' and the file has been named and saved. My problem/question: I need to export this artboard showing the Cut and Bleed lines to the sticker printer however when I go into export mode and export it (so far have done .pdf, .jpeg, and .eps), the file described above exports successfully but WITHOUT the Cut and Bleed lines being visible in the exported file. Please advise on where I'm going wrong and/or what step I am missing. Thank you! -Christo
  14. If and when Affinity Publisher is published, will the file format structure be similar to present situation where files can be opened in either program; AD or AP (and then A Pub)? So if I do now some dtp kind of work with Photo, mostly just simple one page stuff with photos and text, should it be easily worked on with A Publisher in the future?
  15. Can any you fine folk direct me on how to delete a file which has not been Saved-As yet? This is the file I was working with that froze the UI on my AD app as reported in my previous post ('Frozen Functions - most menu items disabled'). Regarding my 'frozen screen' in Affinity Designer - it appears to be a corrupted file, if possible it is probably self-induced. Attached are a couple of screenshots, one showing the screen BEFORE and the other showing the name of the file that I can now see after Force-Quitting AD and getting things moving again. The file name is now visible to me and reads 'CVlogoStockholm(currupt:pixelates).svg' as seen on screenshot-1. My question has now shifted from how to unfreeze, to how I can get rid of/delete this file. I don't want to go near it for obvious reasons. So far I've only tried dragging it into Trash from this 'Open Recent File' drop-down but having never been Save-As'd, it doesn't move. Suggestions? Thanks as always folks. I appreciate your time and instruction. -Christo *working on a 2017 MacBook Pro with Affinity Designer 1.5.4*
  16. This should support import/export of DrawPlus files, especially since DrawPlus was made by the same company. I can't currently open a .dpp file that I can in DrawPlus in any of the Affinity projects to carry them over.
  17. Hello, I am facing a problem when I copy a selection of an object and create a new file but file size is not same as copy of the object. this is different... and the same problem with PRINT SCAN. I hope you got my point. Thanks!
  18. AD folks, Any way for me to convert an imported .png file created using the Sketch app so that I can manipulate it in Affinity Designer? I created a new document in AD and imported the above mentioned image but cannot figure out how to work off of this image, making minor changes/effects, etc. Thanks in advance. -Christo
  19. I've looked over the forum for the answer to this so I apologize if it has already been answered. I'm a large format film photographer. I scan my black and white negatives at 2400DPI, at 16bit grayscale. These usually come out of the scanner at about 1GB. By the time I'm done with some adjustments, they are 3-4GB a piece (yes I make very large prints). I found out the hard way, that a PSD file is only good for 2GB and a TIFF file will allow 4GB. I was wondering if the TIFF limit is the same with AP and what the native AP file format allows. Thanks... Spencer
  20. Was I wrong to expect that a native Serif file-type could be imported into Affinity Photo?
  21. Hello everyone! I've got some questions about shortcuts in Affinity Photo and Designer: 1.: I read that ctrl + shift + tab is supposed to let me jump to the next file. But for whatever reason, this only works sometimes. Is there a different way to jump to the next / previous file? Could I be doing something wrong? 2.: Is there a way to select the layer above / below the currently selected one? I am working on OSX 11.6 using Designer 1.5.1 and Photo 1.5.1. Thanks for any help! Shu
  22. I tried to process a RAW foto (Nikon NEF format, camera is Nikon D3200). - The file can be opened without any problem. Fine. - Then I applied some changes in the develop persona. - Then I saved the file in Affinity's native format and got stunned. The original file has a size of 20,4 MB (24 MPix) - the converted "afphoto" file has a size of 458 MB (yes, fourhundred fifty eight megabytes)! So the size has increased by factor ~22! - I attached two screenshots that show the properties of both files (sorry, German labels...). Why??? What happes here? In fact, that's a show stopper for me because that makes the resulting files "unbackupable".
  23. I'm a complete novice with Affinity Photo, but I've not been able to see an obvious answer to my question, which is this. I've opened 6 or so .jpg files and edited them. They are listed as tabs above the working window. I now want to save them all as .afphoto files (a sort of "Save All As" action). This is a batch job, and I have looked at the use of the New Batch Job command. However, when I use this, and look at the Sources/Add window, this opens to a folder on disk, which does contain the photos I already have open and have edited, but also some others. How do I save all the files I currently have up on screen and which I've edited, as a single action rather than saving them one by one? In effect, how can I batch my edited files from the screen, into a batch process and then to disk, without looking at folders on disk.
  24. Hi, Why should I make a file to later embed in another project when it doesn't reopen this file but creates a copy "<embedded>", this should either change the native file or there should be a function for me to create an embedded file straight from the main project. Current workflow is weird.
  25. Command-clicking on a document window's title text should show the filesystem path to the document in a drop-down menu (see attached). Choosing any location from the menu should open that location in the Finder, for quick access to other files in that location. This has been a system-wide Mac OS convention since the early '90s. You'll find it on just about every app that deals with documents, with the notable and disappointing exception of Affinity Designer. Apple documents the expected behavior here: https://developer.apple.com/library/content/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/WinPanel/Tasks/SettingWindowTitle.html Though it may seem like an unimportant feature, it is second-nature to many Mac users, and every one of us who needs to locate an open Designer file in the Finder will be cursing Serif for the lack of this feature as they manually hunt around for the file. It's just not good business to annoy your users in this fashion when a much easier solution is practically given to you by the OS. Please remedy this as soon as possible.
