  1. Hi, Last month I finished my course as UX Designer. At the same time I launched my portfolio website using Semplice (some sort of WordPress tool). After two or three weeks I needed my website to be more professional with UX in mind, so I stripped most of its elements. But now it's too empty, bland, ugly. You can find my website here. So, while that ugly piece of crap is up and running I'm redesigning its looks. But now I'm running in circles and I need some feedback on the sketches that I made last week. Could you guys/girls gimme some? Obviously it needs more content, better photos and the text is just some copy/paste stuff. You are appreciated.
  2. First of all, well done! I've been contemplating an Adobe free lifestyle and Affinity Photo may just be the first piece in the solution. So I wanted to suggest that the app give us better feedback when it's doing something. I'm running it on a mid-2012 MacBook Pro Retina with 8GB of ram and see the spinning beach ball a lot, no really, a LOT. Of course I'm working on multiple layers of 24MP raw files. That's enough to tax a system! Still, it would be very helpful to see some progress bars so I know what the app is thinking. Cheers!
  3. Well, if Affinity is really targeting Adobe. Where can I send comments to the developers ? Great product, however support via a blog is not good enough for me.
  4. Inside the Layers tab, when I drag a layer onto the Trash icon, please make something happen (like a Hover state on the web). Right now it works -- if I drag atop the trash and release, it gets deleted with feedback of a little cloud -- but I want feedback BEFORE I release the mouse button. Photoshop gives feedback. Drag a layer atop the trash icon and the background of the trash icon gets darker. It's a small thing but one that will be noticed by everyone and LIKED tremendously. Thanks.
  5. A while ago I went to a portfolio show to get advice from some leading graphic designers in the area. When I showed one designer this logo that I did for a women’s group he said to me that at first didn’t realize that they were people due to their heads not being very visible in front of their arms. He also thought that the curves of the dress made it appear like they were rubber gloves. He suggested that I move the arms further apart so the head would be more visible and to straighten the dress out more. The image on the left is the redesign I did after listening to his advice. There many other type choices I have been experimenting with that I might try as well. I would love to hear what other people think!
  6. Hi! I had this idea. When you make a websites the best way to see how people use the interface is actually seeing them use it, perform tasks. The real users, people who have not seen the wireframes, and are not in the website biz. A lot of the time this points out things like: UI elements you thought were clear, no-brainers are not People use the UI / site in different ways than you had thought of Where people "get lost" Where people expect things to be What elements people love Watching people use your UI can be a real eye opener sometimes. So why not do this for AD? While it would be nice to fly in people from all over the world it might be more efficient to have people record a drawing / AD session. This would be most effective if people had a microfone, to explain what they were doing, what they were expecting to happen. I'm sure this would deliver a ton of insight. // Edit: And if you had the same person do/ draw something similar in Ai, you could compare that, see what they love & use there...
  7. hey guys, Did my first project in affinity today. I really like it! Can't wait for the photo app to be developed too Just wanted to share a few user issues I came across while doing a real project. Hope it helps. This is relevant to mostly version 1.0.18771 and a little bit of 1.0.19046. Sorry for the mix. 1. [RESOLVED (see post 2)] I keep wanting to click on objects and find that I can’t select them. Is there a shortcut that would allow me to do a direct selection? Photoshop has this where you can press ctrl click and it selects the layer (or group, it depends on how you set it up). Currently I have to drill down my layers window until I find the exact layer which is a really slow process. 2. [RESOLVED (My faulty mouse)] I often find i’m having to click on a layer in the layers window multiple times as i find it opens and closes in one click? It seems too sensitive. Don’t know if anyone else is experiencing this. 3. [RESOLVED (software update)] Pasting into a file that is very long or very wide is a bit of a pain as it always pastes at the top and not at your current viewing screen position. It would be nice so that when i paste something I don’t have to scroll up and then drag it back down to where I was. 4. [RESOLVED (Use Shift and mousescroll)] Dragging items around to somewhere that is currently off the screen is a bit slow / sluggish/ clumsy. I found you could use the mouse wheel while holding the layer for vertical positioning but haven’t yet found anything for horizontal. 5. It would be nice to be able to copy and paste layer effects PLEASE PLEASE That would be very awesome. 6. [RESOLVED BUT (Still think it shouldn't zoom in though)] Sometimes I’m drilling through the layers and due to having to click multiple times (on the layer icon) I find the window will automatically change and zoom to the position of that object. This is great when you purposely intend to be editing that layer but it causes me to loose my orientation of where I am in the project especially if its a small object. I then have to zoom out every time which slows things down. Maybe this is just related to my issue with the very sensitive double clicking. maybe don't zoom to the object just change the viewers position. Perhaps if this was more animated and with a duration under a second that might help stop the loss in orientation. 7. [RESOLVED BUT (Personally think whole group should lock not just that layer)] If I lock a layer should I be able to move the contents inside it? This feels a bit strange. 8. [RESOLVED] If I press Z I get the zoom icon, if I press it again by accident or for any other reason it goes back to the pointer tool? In some situations the zoom icon doesn't appear even though it can zoom in and out? It would be nicer if it just stayed as the zoom icon after all that is what I’m pressing. 9. [RESOLVED] The "frame text tool" doesn't scale it just reflows. this is good when you want to reshape the bounding box but when you are scaling a whole project or the layer that its in it just doesn't want to scale. You end up having to do "Convert to curves" which is a destructive destructive process. 10. These are more requests than anything else: 1. In separated mode would it be possible to snap tool pallets to other tool pallets? 2. with strokes I can do inner stroke with an outer stroke but I can’t find a way to be able to do an inner stroke on its own? Hope this can provide as some useful user feed back. Love the work you’re doing! Go kick adobes ass See the attachment of my work to get perspective...
