  1. A few days back I was using Affinity Designer (Windows), designing a logo and modifying a pre-existing font to suit my needs when it hit me. I wanted to design my own font/fonts! I searched the web to find a program that might be good for this, but all the programs on the market didn't look too amazing. The interfaces looked clumsy, unappealing and even though I am sure that they are good, I felt as if they were limited and always needed a separate program to complement them for their lack in one area or another. In most of the videos and tutorials I watched, people tended to use Adobe Illustrator to make the letters and then import the paths into the font editor. So I thought to myself; "What if Affinity Designer would have a font editor built into it, or a stand-alone software that would have the amazing interface of Affinity Designer and its ease of use?". So my suggestion is, that it would be AMAZING to have/buy an extension for Affinity Designer to be able to edit and export fonts! I do know that it is not "just" programming an extension/add-on of that sort to Affinity, but I can't imagine it being too difficult either. I mean you have all the tools that are needed for the job and the extra "specific" tools for font editing could perhaps fit under a new persona in the upper left? A font persona. That would make Affinity even more of a killer software! It would be nice if you guys considered adding this. I mean I really like Affinity Designer and I will most likely buy it on release, but I would also love to buy a font editor from you since I know that you would make it easy and fun to work with!
  2. Couldn't find an answer through my search for this - I'm sending a book cover design over to a publisher and have some issues (apparently) Book: 5.25"x8" Margin: 0.25" Bleed: 0.125" Create Artboard: Demensions: 11"x8.25" Guides: 0.375 (TBLR) (No option to create Bleeds) Setup Bleed in Document Settings: 0.125" (TBLR) Export: Include Bleed Include Printer Markers Trim Markers show up at edges not Bleed Positions. Can you guys Help? Attached is a screenshot of the PDF after export - (the Red and Yellow are just Overlays I made Red=Bleed Yellow equals Margin) TIA
  3. For Gimp, there's a cool script available that is called Shellout: http://registry.gimp.org/node/24977 This python script will call an external program, providing the active layer or a new from visible layer to this external program via a temp file. Once the external program is completed, it should save/overwrite the original temp file which gets pulled back into gimp. This is extremely useful to use standalone versions of plugins that don't work correctly via the Photoshop Plugin Import in Affinity Photo, for example, some plugins of the Nik Collection. It would be really useful to have such a "Send to standalone and Back after editing"-function, especially if you have some programs that aren't available as plugins but want to keep your workflow efficient.
  4. Today I went to Apple Photo to try to edit a photo I had been working on in Affinity but when it opened up all my changes were gone. Then the photo changed to a different photo in Apple Photo. In other words the same photo is showing up Apple Photo twice and one photo disappeared almost entirely. I would go to Time Machine to restore that old version of photo that somehow got messed up. But I don't know how to do that. I can't find that option in Apple Photos. Please help!
  5. Suddenly, all my custom export presets that I had defined have disappeared! (I remember recently changed the UI language from German to English and v.v., and I had one system crash - both should not cause this, but I could have??) I am sure they should be included in my backup - which file do I need to restore from Time Machine to get them back? Taking a quick look, I did not find aything suitable named SerifLabs or Affinity in my Library folder...
  6. Exporting a Tif file adds the file type .tiff not .tif I know both are acceptable but .tif is done by everyone else so AFFINITY should conform. cheers Ian
  7. As the title implies, i think this would be highly necessary. Especially for UI design where you handle lots of slices at once.
  8. As i have seen, affinity foto 1.5.0 beta (both mac and win version) cannot open .kro file format. Will support for .kro (read and write) come? greetings from germany Chris
  9. I know it's an option for HDR, but i would really like to have this option for the png file extension.
  10. It would be great to have certain tools e.g. export/save to memorize settings such as - file type - quality setting for jpg Very often I retouch a jpg and just want the changed file to overwrite the existing with the same quality settings as the original - add overwrite instead of need to use export function
  11. When attempting to export a design that has inner shadow on text. the shadow does not appear where it is supposed to. Latest AD for windows.
  12. There is a bug with DPI settings in the Export Settings dialog: DPI settings are ambiguous after selecting a preset. I've written about this before. Here is how to reproduce it: Open the Export Settings dialog. Click SVG or PDF (I've tested these two formats only). Create a preset (if you still don't have one). Select your custom preset. Select 96 DPI in the DPI drop-down. Now choose another preset, say SVG for export. This will change Raster DPI to 300. Select 96 DPI again. Nothing happens. So... will I get 96 or 300 dpi? I hope this explanation is clear.
  13. Hello, I created and art board and placed an object onto it. When I export "PDF (for export)" all objects are visible. When I export "PDF (for print)" the placed object is missing. (see attachement) I assume I miss some settings? Best, Manfred Artboard1-pdf for export.pdf Artboard1-pdf for print.pdf
  14. I'm working in a Sketch shop and have to supply sketch files as deliverables - or at least for archive purposes. Copy/Paste from AD appears true visually so that's great. problem is that my careful organisation and labelling of elements in AD is lost. Given that Affinity is making a big play for UI use in 1.5, I think tidying up this part of the realworld workflow that many of us in this area have to deal with, is essential. Sketch has such a grip on this area, we need to be able to deliver editable files that are organized ande make sense to Sketch users. Obviously it's impractical to relabel everything on export, then do it again (once would be beyond practical) on the next export. Hoping this isn't a big ask - given the structure is there already - its just the labelling that's getting lost (I think)
  15. Sirs, I tried to do Focus Merging (elsewhere known as Focus Stacking) using a set of 12 photos produced using the focus bracketing feature of my Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II. It seemed to do a good job and I was able to save in afphoto format but when I tried to export as JPEG it gave the message: An error occurred while exporting to: C:\Users\...\AffinityFocusMergedToyCars.jpg Metadata could not be embedded. I am running Affinity Photo 1.5.0.35 (Beta) under Windows 7, I also tried to de-fisheye a photo from my Samyang 7.5mm f:3.5 Fisheye lens taken on my Panasonic GF3 (micro four-thirds) using Filters - Distort - Lens Distortion but it seemed incapable of fully removing the barrel distortion even at -100%; Also, it would also be nice to have lens correction data.
  16. An error occurs when I try to export a three layer picture to Photoshop (see attachment). The English translation of the German error message says: "Error embedding meta data". Affinity Photo Error Photoshop Export.bmp
  17. I have had difficulty with an SVG file that I have exported from AD (.029 RC) If I open the resulting image in Internet Explorer, it displays correctly, but if I try to import it into an external programme (PagePlus, DrawPlus, Xara Photo & Graphic Designer), or back into AD itself, it doesn't display as the original. The same image, exported as a PNG, is OK. I have attached: The SVG in question An AD file showing the original, the re-imported SVG and the PNG versions A screenshot of the above AD file in case the SVG renders correctly on your PC RSPCA Logo.afdesign RSPCA Logo.svg
  18. When clicking the 'Create Slice' button in the Export Persona, if the selected object, layer, or group has any children objects that extend beyond the boundaries of its clipping mask or parent object, the slice that is created ignores the mask or parent boundaries and wraps the slice around the entire children objects content. Is this possibly a bug? I realize I could manually adjust the slice to wrap around the mask or parent object but doing so releases the slice from the object so that if I then move the object later in the Draw or Pixel Personas the slice would not travel with the object in the Export Persona. Thanks.
  19. EDIT: This is for Affinity Designer, sorry I forgot to mention in the subject! When I create posters to be printed in larger formats (like DIN A1 or something), I sometimes want to print a preview on my A4 office laser printer, to get a better impression of some details (like font sizes, for instance). An A4 sheet that I can stick to the wall allows to see some things better than on the screen at my desk. In this case, I dont want to print a "tiled"version of the whole drawing wasting time and 8 sheets of paper, only to find my desired detail printed prarted on two sheets that I need to tape together – I rather want the critical detail in 1:1 sale on one single page. So I am missing some option to print only a detail of the whole drawing, i.e. crop the drawing for printing (sorry for my English, is this the right term?). I can imagine three locations where I would look for such functionality: In the print dialog, where the preview is, I would like to drag a frame where I want the output to be cropped (very intuitive but probably more work to implement) In the "Scaling and artboards" section of the print dialog, it would be nice to be able to select slices (from the export persona) as well as the ArtBoards and the whole document. In the export persona, next to PNG, PDF, SVG, JPEG, etc., have an export type "Print" that I can add to a slice. In my opinion, 2 and 3 would be nice and consistent with the overall concept. I could just create a slice covering the detail view I want to print, and the view would be stored in the drawing (so I can create consistent printouts of exactly the same view when modifying my poster). Option 1 is very intuitive but has the disadvantage that the cropped area is probably not stored, but gone after each time. PS. As a workaround, adding a temporary artboard (with transparent background) on the desired detail just for printing does not work, the resulting page is empty probably because the objects are not part of the actual artboard but in the artboard lying below. Of course, I can export a slice as pdf and then print the pdf, but that is not as efficient as I would think Affinity can be :-) . Thanks! BTW, great work, I really love to see how Affinity Designer gets even better with each update!
  20. After working with AD to export stuff for a mobile app, I came to the conclusion this would be a must. It's really difficult to navigate between lots of different things and not be able to organize them, and so it would be cool to have: 1. Layer/Export item color coding (like ps) 2. Export item grouping, to keep things tidy. setting a "Path" variable on this could be cool because it would allow for all items in this group to be exported in the path specified in the variable, without having to resort to "funky naming" like "mainfolder/subfolder"
  21. Hi, My first request here. I recently needed to export quite a lot of layers as EPS and import them back into After Effects for motion graphics work. I realized that Persona exports the layers using their individual boundary. That means that when I import them into AE, their alignment on the page is different from the original layout. In order to fix this, I need to add an invisible rectangle to each layer. At that point, Persona considers the rectangle the actual boundary and the position of the element in the layer which I need to export, is finally correct. A way to avoid this workaround would be an export option, where the user can choose between Artboard boundary and Asset boundary (like in Adobe Illustrator). I really want to ditch Illustrator, and despite I'm tied to After Effects for my work, vector files don't have to necessarily be handled in AI. AD is a great candidate, actually, the only one which really makes me feel I can finally do the switch. But before I do so, I need to be able to export to AE in a clean way. Best, Andrew
  22. I have images with rounded corners which i would like to export. However, I cannot seem to export without the underlying square corners of the canvas appearing. Probably an easy answer, have not found it. I enclose a sample jpg export. Thanks!
  23. hi all, i have a question that i hope you might be able to solve: when i export my afdesign files to eps and my supplier opens them with coral draw, the size changes, e.g. from the original 120x120cm to 90x90cm. this happens all the time and neither he or i can explain why that happens - anyone got an idea?
  24. The Area setting in the Export Settings dialog always defaults to Whole Document so each time I export I have to select Selection without background again. I believe this setting should be remembered between calls. An easy fix, I believe.
  25. Apologies if this has been answered, I looked but could not find. Is there a way to add a border automatically when exporting or printing the artboard? in Inkscape, this is done simply by checking "Border on top of drawing" in the Document Preferences - Page Set-up. Thanks.
