  1. The Paint Brush has its Erase Brush equivalent, but the Pixel Tool lacks its Erase Pixel counterpart. It would be more intuitive and useful to use the tip of my stylus to paint with the Pixel Tool and be able to quickly correct mistakes with the stylus eraser using a true Erase Pixel tool instead of the regular Erase Brush. There is an "Erase" alternate mode for the Pixel Tool that can be activated with Ctrl, but as far as I could see it cannot be bound to the stylus eraser. Hopefully this would be easy to do. It would require no new functionality, just to elevate the "Erase" mode of the pixel tool to a tool of its own and make it usable like the Erase Brush.
  2. Ctrl for the eraser, in the Paint Brush Tool. In the Pixel Tool, it works well !
  3. Hello ! I'd like to report a bug that happens when switching tools between the paint brush and the eraser. After doing so, the brush doesn't look as previously selected - like... blurrish. I think it occurs because all the brush settings doesn't seem to be restored. I also mention that the brush isn't selected (blue highlight) anymore as well. To restore the correct brush settings, I have to select it again each time I switch tool - which is pretty annoying. I've attached to this message a sample of the brushes being different before using the eraser, and after. I should also precise that I didn't use any graphic tablet, I did it using the mouse. Thank you in advance for your help, I hope this bug will get fixed because I personally think it ruins the drawing experience.
  4. Instant crash upon clicking with eraser tool. Repeated many times. Problem persists in New Document and after Restarts. 1.8
  5. I would like to have my eraser size larger than my paint brush size, but alas I can not achieve this. from what I read I should pick a brush and size for my eraser then switch to the paint brush and select a brush and a size. This I have done but when I switch between Paint brush and eraser the eraser stays the same size as the paint brush. What am I doing wrong? Is there some setting in the preferences I have set wrong or over looked. Thanks Stats:OSX El Capitan Ver 10.11.6 Mac Affinity Photo 1.7.3
  6. Hey. So when using a mask layer I’m finding that I am erasing when I should be masking even when I haven’t selected the eraser. This may not be a bug, but just a setting, however it’s pretty annoying, any insight would be appreciated. Apart from this... great program 👌🏻🙏🏻
  7. Hello: I have just noticed that when I try to hide part of an object or painting, Affinity Designer has different results depending on using Eraser or a black brush: As you can see, both are masks. Using brush tool selecting a 100% black, it doesn´t paint 100% and part of the rectangle is still visible. Eraser paint 100% black and hide successfully the part painted in the mask. I think this shouldn´t work like this, right? Thank you very much.
  8. I'm on Windows 10, drawing with a Huion 22in drawing monitor. In Affinity Designer and Photo, every time my stylus approaches the screen, the eraser tool is activated. This'll happen several times while trying to select another tool. Clip Studio and Photoshop don't seem to have this issue. Thanks.
  9. Greetings! I've just recently picked up a version for Affinity Designer for Mac and so far, I'm very impressed. A few things I've noticed doing some routine work 1) Line segment isolation is a pain currently. Would love a simple "eraser" tool that automatically selects a line segment between points, isolates it, (opens the path if it's in a closed path), and deletes it. 2) Bisecting closed paths (loops) with an open path should automatically create new shapes (ex, bisecting a circle with a simple line should (if we want) create two new half-circle shapes). This makes filling in colors MUCH simpler. The current workaround is a little silly. 3) The pen tool should automatically join paths unless specifically specified otherwise (shortcut or menu option) - sometimes I may use an anchor point as a reference point for other shapes... but sometimes, I just want to join some paths :) I'm fairly sure these aren't new requests as I've seen other users complain about these particular issues. Amazing software to be sure. I'm considering Publisher as well but I might have to hold off till I get a better feel for aforementioned as these simple concerns are a huge time waster in the current iteration.
  10. Since updating to 1.7, the BASIC erase brush has been very choppy, only erasing in what seems to be full circles, just repeated. Before the update, Erasing was smooth and I was able to mask cleanly and accurately, but this has made that no longer possible. Is there any way to fix this?
  11. Hi! Created a seed of life design behind my logo art & went to erase the lines coming through... but nothing is disappearing. lol Am I doing something wrong? It’s also not working in my other documents I’m currently working on. But is usually fine before... also updated my iPad Pro the newest one after I found out it wasn’t working.. but didn’t help! Is anyone aware of this? I have projects to finish this week! Thanks so much!
  12. Hello, is there any possibility that a future update for Designer will allow for the user to control the smoothing on a newly created line or fill? As an illustrator it is VERY important to be able to have what I draw get accurately reflected when I lift up the pencil. Currently Designer is making that decision for me (not cool). It feels like a program of this caliber should be able to offer the user that level of control. I would love to be able to turn smoothing off so I can actually draw what I am intending. Is there a possibility that that will be implemented in a future update? Also PLEASE add a vector based eraser tool! Thank you. Caleb
  13. Hello I was prompted to fill out a feature request based on a review of Designer for IPad on ITunes. The Eraser. It it would be great to have a dedicated vector based eraser. One that edits shapes just like the eraser in illustrator. I understand why you have the pixel based eraser masking option. It’s cool. But it doesn’t actually allow me to edit my vector based shapes. And the workaround for splitting vectors with a line is cumbersome and awkward, and not what I am looking to do. All I want to do is clean up a weird shape edge here and there. No need to reinvent the wheel, a simple eraser tool would be soooooooooo welcome. Regarding Layers. Is there is any way to keep the parent layer open at the top of the layer palette and in view when a shape is selected with the node tool? When many multiple shapes (I’m talking 300+ sometimes) are nested inside a layer, it’s a total chore to have to swipe upward with the Apple Pencil for what feels like an eternity just to get to the parent layer in order to collapse it. If at any time I could click the down arrow and collapse the nested layers it would make navigating the layers palette so much easier. Again I hate to say it but Illustrator’s workflow here is so much simpler. My hope/dream is that I use Designer for all of my vector based illustration work. I would loooooooove to not have to use Illustrator or any Adobe product anymore. Please Affinity, make Designer the Illustrator slayer I know it can be! Thanks. best, C’
  14. I'd like to request a tool from illustrator that would be an amazing addition to AF on ipad, especially with the apple pencil combo. Blob tool is a tool that looks like a regular brush, but when you draw with it, it fills in a whole area and vectorizes around the solid area. It's basically the vector eraser tool but opposite. It would be amazing to have a blob, eraser combo tool that would switch between the functions with a one-finger modifier (with an option to set default erase or draw). Adding to and erasing from vector shapes would make filling in vector areas and drawing full shapes really easy to do on ipad, especially with apple pencil! Video attached so you can see what these tools do (in case anyone here has never used them) This is shown in illustrator as 2 tools, but in true Affinity style, these could totally be combined with a modifier since it doens't need to be that complicated. (illustrator is great at making 6 tools to do do the work of one). Blob eraser combo.mp4
  15. Hi I was looking for an option where I can use a brush as an eraser, I haven't found it yet. Is there an option to use a brush as an eraser? Let me know pleas Regards
  16. I'm hoping an eraser tool and blob brush are on the eventual horizon for Affinity Designer both on desktop and Ipad. So much of my designing involves a painterly approach with adding to existing vectors with the blob tool and cutting away parts from them with the eraser.
  17. I'm on Affinity Designer. From the beginning the eraser tool has worked flawlessly to mask parts of layers that I wanted to hide/remove. Suddenly it doesn't. I click on the layer, go to pixel persona, and select the eraser brush tool. Now instead of masking chunks of layer with brush strokes when I draw: it simply does nothing. No marks are made. I've tried with both my tablet pen and my mouse (on surface pro 4) over and over again and the assistant adds the masking layer like it's supposed to, and the masking layer is there as a child layer to the layer I'm trying to mask--as though I have actually properly masked something--and yet nothing is done. It's like it's invisible on the screen. Nothing is erased from the original layer like it's intended to do. I haven't changed anything about the preferences or settings, I was literally working on the same drawing for hours and suddenly the eraser brush tool just did this (became obsolete) and I am not sure how to fix it. If anyone has any advice please let me know : (
  18. If you hold down the Shift key when working with certain tools (such as a brush, eraser, or stamp), you can usually draw straight lines - from the position of the last mouse click to the current mouse position. This does not work in Affinity. Here, the line is not drawn from the LAST mouse click, but from any previous (the penultimate?) mouse click. This is very annoying.
  19. I don't know if this is a bug or user issue. I'm in pixel persona in Affinity Designer. The brush is working great, but I am newly unable to erase anything, whether I use my Wacom pen button, click on the eraser with my mouse, tap the letter 'e' on the keyboard or turn the Wacom pen upside down. Nothing does it. I am still able to erase if I open up Affinity Photo so I'm guessing it's not the Wacom settings, but could be wrong. I have tried restarting the software and restarting the Mac. Usually when I have this issue Cmd D fixes it, because I've accidentally selected a tiny area of pixels, but it's not that either. Can anyone think of something else I may have done accidentally to prevent erasing in Designer? Affinity Designer 1.6.1 Mac Sierra 10.13.3 Wacom Intuos 5 touch with up to date driver
  20. How could I get the white line reduced in height? And how I would I ensure that the line retains the curve at the top? I cannot simply move the object down, and I can't seem to use the layers system in Designer as successfully as I can in Photo. So if there is a neat way to erase the top of the line, while retaining the curve, that may be most helpful. Thanks
  21. I'm trying to blend in some aspects of one layer onto another but when i use a brush or the eraser to change the alpha mask the edge is always hard even when i set it to zero hardness. If you look closely at the screen grab the mask layer thumbnail shows a feathered brush but the image shows a hard edged circle.
  23. Full disclosure, I'm not suuuper experienced with design software, and I don't want to slog through project videos in case they answer this question. I searched the forums and didn't see anything about erasers, (and the advice for brushes was in a beta topic, and incomplete for a newbie like me.) While I have a goal of getting friendlier with the vector brushes, I tend to draw on paper with a pencil, then scan images and clean them in Designer (on a Windows 7 PC). I can't figure out how to make my eraser pressure sensitive with my Wacom intuos tablet. Or brushes, for that matter. I'm pretty sure it can be done, I chose this software over others because I read it would play with my Wacom, but finding the setting has NOT been intuitive. I'd assumed it would just BE a thing if I was in raster-mode, at least. Brush settings don't have any sort of sensitivity mapping that I can find. Do I need to turn it on from the Wacom software first? Is it buried in an obscure menu item? *Also, my pen has a weird "eraser" sensor on it's butt that the software doesn't acknowledge. Not a big bummer, since the thing is too wobbly for detail work, but weird. Sometimes I just want to flip it and go from drawing to erasing Big Mistakes like I did in Adobe or Manga Studio. Is there a down-key I can hold to temporarily change the tool from a brush to eraser?
  24. Hi. This is my first post. Can someone please tell me, or point me to a tutorial as to how to use the tools, especially the eraser, in the Tone Mapping Persona. Ideally what I would like to do is erase some of the effect to the tone mapping on my image -- is this possible. I haven't been able to find anything about this. Thanks for any help! Kim
  25. I use a combination of the Blob Brush tool and the Eraser tool in AI to "sculpt"my vector shapes. It gives the artwork a hand-drawn effect and it's a really creative way to work. Are there any plans to introduce these tools in Affinity Designer? I also use the Reshape tools and Symbol tools a lot and wonder is these are on the planned schedule at all? Here's an example where I show how I work; https://www.lynda.com/Illustrator-tutorials/Working-Blob-Brush-tool/123443/126395-4.html Here's an example that shows the basics of these tools; https://www.lynda.com/Illustrator-tutorials/Creating-shapes-Blob-Brush-Eraser-tools/123524/131700-4.html All the best, Angie
