  1. Hi, I'm a newbie to Affinity, so please bear with me as this is probably a really dumb question.. When I have two layers and want to partially add some transparency to the top layer, so that it fades into the background layer, I can use the eraser tool. So far so good, but how can I get the opposite effect? I mean, adding opacity to my top layer. It must be so easy but I can't seem to find it! I have seen tutorials to paint an effect using the paintbrush, but when I use the paintbrush, I can only paint in the selected color. What do I overlook? Please help! I've attached an image of the edit to make my issue more clear. The elephant should have looked like it's just coming out of the mist. I've managed to finish it using the eraser tool really careful and undo when I erased too much.
  2. This is a very basic question, but I have created a drawing using the vector brush tool. Some of the lines got sloppy and I want to erase bits here and there. When I attempt to use the Eraser, it causing pixillation around the edges, instead of a nice, smooth erase. I'm sure there is a setting I can change, but I've looked everywhere and can't figure it out. Can anybody offer some assistance? I've attached a screen shot of what I'm talking about. Thanks in advance
  3. Hi, All I am trying to do is to erase parts of an image like having an eraser. I have selected the erase background tool and pressing down on the mouse and going over the sections i want to erase but it is literally doing nothing. I have used what i thought is the exact same tool on photoshop and thought it wouls be the same in practice. I can't see how else to make it work I have gone into every single option. Any help will be very much appreciated.
  4. If I draw a squiggle in Vector Persona switch to Pixel Persona select the Erase Brush Tool I can erase a portion (or all) of the squiggle I just drew. If I then switch back to Vector Persona draw a second squiggle in Vector Persona switch to Pixel Persona select the Erase Brush Tool I can only erase the second squiggle--the first one is no longer editable. If I draw two squiggles in Vector Persona switch to Pixel Persona select the Erase Brush Tool Again, I can only erase the second squiggle--the first one is no longer editable. That doesn't seem to be correct behavior, as I'd only have one shot at erasing something I drew earlier. What am I doing wrong? Might I have a preference in the Assistant Manager (something the Help files referred to in the EB Tool section) incorrectly set?
  5. There is a super cool feature with Pixel Tool that allows you to paint with "alpha" keeping the same tool preset. If you press CMD while painting, you can easily erase keeping the same appearance: texture, nozzle, jitters,etc... Is it possible to extend this feature to Paintbrush and Paint Mixer too?
  6. Hi, I've finished my first drawing. It was great time to discover AD freehand drawing tools for me. I try to utilize AD as freehand drawing app. I love vector and raster mixing in one place. I've started with sketchbook photo and raster brushes to make composition sketch. Next part was vector drawing with Pen, Pencil and Brush. I think Pen tool is great and intuitive but freehand drawing was very painful for me and I here are my freehand drawing improvements. 1. It would be great to have something like Clean tool. It can be something like brush but with size and tolerance option. When you draw a path with Pencil or Brush it has more points when needed. Clean tool can help reduce points with given tolerance and path is clean and simple. Great inspiration is here 2. I think Pencil and Brush need redraw option. I mean, when path is active user can draw over and change it. It is very frustrating to draw part of image as one path, next part as next path etc. and connect them into one shape. 3. Because I can't clean or redraw my paths on the fly (1 & 2), I've tried to use brush, draw my shape, expand strokes and add them. It works but shape has so many points (it seems brush path is made from circles) and you can't use Pen to make quick changes. First you need to clean shape but it takes more time than drawing new one. I think expand stroke should give shape with needed points only. 4. It would be great to have vector eraser too. Sometimes it is fast and easy to erase part of shape. Best, Greg
  7. If I open a scanned image in Photoshop, it opens as a single "Background" layer. And whenever you use the Eraser tool on such a "Background" layer, it Erases to White because White is the default chosen background color. Of course, if I click the little Lock icon to unlock the Background layer in Photoshop, it changes to "Layer 0" and any use of the Eraser tool in that case will erase to transparent. In Affinity Designer, everything erases to transparent from what I see, even the Background layer. In Affinity, how do I ERASE TO WHITE? Thanks.
  8. Hi, I would like to put two ideas up to discussion. I like working with AD, but also work with Manga Studio 5 a lot, and it has some nifty features that would be welcome in AD. First thing I like a lot is the vector eraser option. In MS5 you can draw on pixel and on vector layers. On the vector layer I can use the eraser to erase until intersection. This is cool as I don't have to be too fussy with overlapping lines. It works very well, and would be great in AD! I can also erase one line easily without affecting the other lines around it. 2nd thing that is quite great is the simplify brush. As a default the paths made with freehand drawing in MS5 have too many points, but using this brush cleans up pretty nicely, with a good range of options. Something like this would be a great addition to the pencil tool Come to think of it: what would be very welcome is more settings for the pencil tool, I think it is too basic now without any way of setting smoothness. Is this coming?
  9. I rarely open iDraw since buying Affinity Designer but there is one option in iDraw that I do miss. It was fun to use and let me create some interesting effects. I could take the Eraser tool, adjust it to the size desired, then swipe it across a shape to create a gap between the two segments. Those segments could then be selected using the Move tool and operated on as a unit, or I could use the Node tool to select only one segment to work on. Is there a way to do something similar in Designer using the Eraser?
  10. hi, Affinity Designer Team. Im Madder Merlin. I am not good at English, but will participate in the forum using the Google Translate. I want to assign a shortcut to the paint brush and eraser of pixel persona. Paint function of Affinity Designer is great, but I believe that convenience is missing. And, since want to do more instantly brush size and brush opacity, shortcut want also to these functions. This is one of the idea, I think it a great to be able to adjust the drag while pressing a particular key. Please consideration. thanks for reading.
  11. My Eraser Tool is missing from both the Tools Panel as well as the Customize Tools selections. Is this a bug or did I somehow delete it completely from AD? I'm pretty sure I saw It in my original setup a few months ago. (OK, I see there is some discussion on this in the forums. I'm assuming Eraser works like a knife tool to split vector paths, not a pixel eraser.)
  12. Currently both ends of the Wacom pen act as the same tool while drawing. Also, when switching between the brush and eraser tools, it would be nice if the size of each respective tool would remain independent from the other. Changing the size of the eraser shouldn't affect the size of the brush, and vice-versa.
