  1. See my screen cap - in Illustrator I would select both elements, click on the Intersect function, resulting in two editable shapes. In Affinity Design tho, I get an empty canvas and layer "(Curve)." I just want to divide the ellipse shape into two editable elements. What am I doing wrong?
  2. I can never seem to get the ADD, SUBTRACT, DIVIDE, COMBINE functions to work right, can someone please tell me what I may be doing wrong or if it's something with the software settings? https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cqfeDnZfQU
  3. Hi, I have a problem. When I want to divide like a donut, one circle inside another, I can't get what I expect. A hole in a circle and another circle that was inside. Instead what I get is three circles, like in the 2nd image.
  4. Leprechaun 2019 Initial inking This is the first in a series of videos detailing my process of vector inking my shirt design for the upcoming St Patrick's Day 5k. In these first two steps, I trace my approved sketch with a tapered vector brush in Affinity Designer, intentionally overlapping my lines so that in step two, I can divide them where they cross and delete away the excess portions. I've been making an effort to do more and more of my workflow in Affinity Designer instead of my standard Illustrator app so part of this process was exploration and trying out new tools and methods. I'm still hoping we get an eraser and a blob tool (amongst other features) to make this process a little easier. Also - the combine boolean leaves behind a TON of nodes in its wake... is that something being addressed?
  5. Okay.... gush this is a nightmare and actually an easy task in adobe illustrator.... so, I have this two forms: and i want to cut out the upper part, like this: first thing i tried, was substract, which doesn't work at all, so i went the old way and used divide and like illustrator i got many little parts. Okay, i cut everything out and get this: and now i only need to combine those lose parts, in illustrator it's "unite". Here, we have "add" and "combine" . So, i cklick on "add"and HOLY MOLLY, what a mess: even if i select only two individual parts and try to combine them, doesn't work. ... tried combine too, but it's still loading, after 76 minutes... every time I try to cancel it with esc, the program bugs completely out. (i can click on icons but it doesn't do anything) ... So, how the heck do I divide and combine my objects correctly? Edit: I know, i can create a path and cut out the upper part with ease but sometimes i just like taking this approach...
  6. Hi there! I'm astonished with Affinity Designer for ipad! I'm almost completely transitioned from my PC to iPad, just need a few more options. Suggestion #1: Select BY SAME FILL COLOR This is very important for professional work :) For example, if a group of objects (or shapes) are overlapping, what we need to do is to select them all, and divide them. After they are divided, we need to click on "Add" to merge the shapes together, and that's fine. But if we have a LARGE number of SMALL shapes, merging one by one can take forever. So, option "Select by (the same) Color" is very important and time saving for us designers. How I think it should be done: Solution 1. Click and hold the color (from toolbox) with pencil, or with finger, and while holding it select (with your left hand) three dots icon "..." and then choose "Select all" Solution 2. Add a new icon named "Select Same Color", or similar. Suggestion #2: SHAPE EFFECTS For me, as a Vintage illustrations and Logo designs fan, I would like to have a ARC LOWER, ARC UPPER, AND (possible) ARC tools. For example: Netflix logo. How I think it should be done: 1. After typing "Netflix" for example, convert curves, and than click on new icon set named "shape effects", than click on "Lower arc", or "Upper Arc". OK, that's for now, If I missed these options, if they already exist in same/similar form, please let me know.
  7. Hey guys, I'm trying to divide (or something) the shapes in the attached example. Basically I wanna cut the dark red shape from the black shape, so that the black shape will have an empty circle where the dark red circle is. How do I do that? I tried divide, but that only works the way I want it to only if the shapes don't overlap completely. Thanks divide-test.afdesign
  8. In this short tutorial I demonstrate the Geometry operations (add, subtract, intersect, divide, combine) in Affinity Designer 1.6.0 (destructively and non-destructively) with some samples. Keep on drawin' Norbert
  9. I'm trying to do Geometry operations with symbols but they seem to be greyed out or unavailable. ---Repro steps--- 1) Create a shape using the rectangle tool (M) 2) Go to view/studio/symbols 3) Create a symbol from the rectangle tool 4) Drag this newly created symbol onto the canvas multiple times 5) Select several symbols and note that you are unable to add, subtract, intersect, divide, combine Is there a way to do these things with symbols?
  10. Hi, I'm looking to confirm whether there is a relatively straight forward method for destructively intersecting/divide multiple layers (14 for example) using one shape. Currently I can do this by duplicating the shape to the same number of layers there are and carry out the intersect operation 14 times. This can be particularly time consuming however and I believe there must be an easier way. Please note: I do not want to use masks, clipping or export slices as to the best of my knowledge these are not destructive processes. If there is an option use these functions to do what I am looking to achieve then even better! I utlimately want to split a multi layer vector image into multiple horizontal slices with the only shapes that are exported being within the slice boundaries.
  11. I can't divide using the pen tool, "stroke" watch the video please..
  12. Hi there! I drew a picture, scanned and vectorized it, cleaned up the edges, and everything was looking good until I tried to separate the different objects using layer>geometry>divide. Suddenly all the white spaces in my drawing filled in with black! I'm guessing it's because the insides of the lines were a shape instead of just empty background... Is there a way I can prevent/fix this without going back to the original scan and changing the tracing settings (I used inkscape for the tracing) so that I don't lose the work I did smootjing and fixing it up? Thanks. The file attached has the original image below and a version I copied and then divided above.
  13. Hi, If you divide two overlapping shapes, you get three juxtaposing shapes (two shapes, and one other for the previous intersection). When you merge these back into one shapes in Adobe Illustrator, the merging is clean. But on Affinity designer, it creates a lot of points inside. https://i.imgur.com/e1hq0oB.gifv Is their a workaround for this ? Deleting this inside points manually take quite some time. Of course, the problem is even greater if you merge more shapes. Should I open a Feature Request ? Thanks for your help ! Note : I'm testing trial of Affinity Designer, (Win 10 x64), I'm pretty new to it.
  14. Hello I am trying to duplicate one image into 4 even parts on my layer. I am not trying to split the image - rather have the image duplicated evenly into 4 or multiple parts Thank you kindly -Cunningham
  15. Hi, this might be an easy question. how is it possible to devide a curve into equal sections. I need a spline or curve with 4 equal length nodes. Or is this even possible? thank you
  16. I'm trying to put a rounded rectangle over an image background, then use the divide, or any geometry tool, to take that area out so that I can have a transparent rounded rectangle in the middle of my image. It won't work for some reason though, and I'm not sure why. It just makes the whole image transparent, or with other tools will leave only the rectangle in place. What have I done wrong?
  17. Hello Affinity Team, it would be cool to have the Divide Blend mode included in Affinity Photo and Designer.
  18. Just as the title says, in Designer the divide function makes a fine line between the two divided objects. I think it's intentional but I'd like to get rid of the line. I know I can do it via the move tool but then I'd have to make some precise adjustments. A check box to disable the line would be a good addition. Or perhaps if an option is already there then please tell me where can I find it. Example - https://image.prntscr.com/image/ZsadZxvbSPuSIoDtZBBjJg.png
  19. Hey I am a newbie in AD. Is it possible to do this in AD https://youtu.be/sDM5VwDpCtw I want to make a cirkel and with 2 stroke Divide it into 3 parts and fill them in different colors
  20. Good evening! I try to get used to Affinity Designer and now have a problem to work with nodes from an SVG file. I have a file that gets loaded asa single layer object. I now want to select some nodes and group them as new object or to cut them with ctrl + x but it always cuts the whole big object, not only the selected nodes. I can delete selected nodes. There is the "Divide" tool, that does get most parts separated into own objects, but sometimes has problems with thin lines like with my shield, it makes big filled objects instead of thin lines. Maybe someone can tell me how I can get own objects out of closed nodes? Problem this shield: gets divided to full black objects: HTML5-SVG-SingleObject.svg shild.svg
  21. The Rounded Rectangle doesn't combine or divide correctly when it's on the left-hand side of the other object. It doesn't seem to matter which object is on top. Rounded-Rectangle_Combine.afdesign
  22. Need help! Why this is happening to me? Is my setting is wrong or what? Can someone help me? :( Always fail when I want to make something geometrical... . .
  23. Hello, I´m new here and I would like to know if there is a possibility to merge a path (line)? And if on the other hand it is possible to divide a path (line) into 2 or more pathes? I think in Illustrator there is a scissors, but I can´t find anything similar in Affinity desgn. It would be really great if somenone can help me...! Thanks in advance und my best regards, sandfraeulein
  24. Dear all, I am trying to create a simple vector shape logo, however when I use the divide boolean tool to erase certain parts of shapes I get a very thin white space between the divided shapes. I am probably doing this wrong, however would like to know if there is a way of dividing or erasing certain parts of shapes places on each other without this space as it is not as crisp as i would like. I have attached a photo to show what I mean. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks :-)
  25. I love the corner tool - awesome stuff. But as soon as I apply a boolean operation to shapes (add, subtract, intersect, divide, combine) their corners become baked and the ability to edit corners is lost. I imagine that it *might* be possible for any unaffected corners to retain their corner tool setting (i.e. existing corners with a corner tool setting applied, that are not created or changed by the boolean operation being applied). This would be a great help. Currently when ever I want to apply a boolean operation on a shape that has a corner, I first have to zero the corner, remember what it was, then reapply it after the boolean operation is applied.
