  1. I have three overlapping circles and I want to create new shapes/curves from the seven intersections. To achieve this I select all three circles and press Layer -> Geometry -> Divide. This does create the seven curves I want, but also about 20 other curves that I have to delete since they are so small they aren't even visible. Unfortunately the newly created curves do not perfectly fit together. Now I can see the white background where the circles used to intersect. This also happens when I compound them manually. Is this expected behaviour or should I use a different technique? Thanks.
  2. If I understand the Divide blend mode then the attached seems incorrect for two identical layers. That with the exception of black or 0 areas, everything should be x/x=1 or white. Both Difference and Subtract blend modes produce the expected black or 0 results. ColorPattern.afphoto
  3. Passthrough Vs Normal. This tutorial shows the difference between passthrough and normal in grouped layers. 4. Hi! I noticed that Divide and Unite tools don't work how they should at all. Instead of separating objects (like a outline (fill not a stroke) and background (single color block)), divide tool kinda ruins them all, screwing the objects, making freaky lines (even in places where there were none), making useless objects or doing nothing at all. Unite tool also either makes it into one shape(sometimes that looks nothing like the original shapes) or deletes everything - instead of putting things together, separated by colors and such. I have noticed this broken functionality even like a year back... : (
  5. After dividing the multiple ellipses, instead of required shapes, it caused 100’s of extra curves
  6. After tracing an object with the pen tool, expanding the stokes to fills and then dividing them all with the divide boolean, some parts disappear. Selecting all and expanding a second or third time does not seem to make a difference. Here is a video of the issue and I attached the file thanks lobster.afdesign
  7. Today I needed to slice/divide some paths and realized Designer has "NO" tools to cut a path anywhere and give you two separate paths! Am I missing something? I keep not wanting to use Illustrator but I keep finding simple tools missing. This is just like not having an offset path command, handy tools.
  8. Hi Affinity I have a Question and I am not shure if this is more a request or stupidity on my hand. But I also read the feature request smoth curves/simplyfy curves and this might be the same issue in Affinity Designer. The problem I have is with the Divide Funktion. To illustrate the problem I made these pictures. As you can see in Step 2 the devided shapes are pretty clean if you use this funktion on two circles. But doing the same thing on the already devided shapes using the third one it starts to get messy. not only are there a lot of nodes on the curves that where intended to create but also a lot of unwanted shapes are created. This causes two issues. 1. Deleting the unwanted curves creates problems when combining the needed ones because there are gaps created 2. it also happenes that outlines are created inside of curves that are hard to get ride of because just deleting nodes can change the shape a lot. So the Question is if there is a way to avoid this issue or if this might be something for the Bugfix/Feature request section. I migrated from Corel and Shaping there is handled a little different. But from what I have seen in tutorial vidios of AI and Corel this seems to work better there. Still would like to say I enjoy working with AD and AP and also love your verry active Forum support which I considder verry Valuble Greetings Peet@MD
  9. Using the new 1.9.0.10 beta, I am trying to add together several expanded former strokes and fills to make one united vector shape. Each time I do so, a large portion of it just disappears. How are we supposed to be doing this aside from tracing the outside with a single pen stroke? Also, I have to keep switching over from the alternate fill mode to the winding repeatedly because when I grab a part of a fill and pull a node of it over top another, it just creates a negative space where they overlap otherwise. Lastly, we're still getting crazy number of nodes when expanding and dividing strokes These issues have been brought up for the last few years without a complete fix. stuff like this is in large part what keeps Affinity from being an app I can use exclusively
  10. How can I do like this? I have try to use pen line to make a Dividing but it is not work ,I only need to create a rectangle to do with it.But in illustrator you can do the split. Can I operate to realize that?
  11. Hello sir, I have already reported this bug in following link but that is left undone .. !!! Screen Recording 2020-10-30 at 8.47.23 PM-1.mp4
  12. I want from image one to image two... The best way I found was creating my paths, expand them and divide, so i can delete everything outside the shape.... and I got image 3... that would be a damn painful lot of work to clean this mess up. Is there no better way around... or way to do it at all? Divide is a mess in this programm... and let me guess, there is no live paint bucket tool?
  13. Every time I use the dividing tool the app is instantly closed on ipad
  14. As many of you I recently moved from Illustrator / Photoshop to Affinity's alternatives because of the pricing issue. Design has become more of a hobby, and I can't justify a monthly subscription. Overall, I am really impressed with the applications (Designer / Photo, mac and iPad), but one thing I really painfully miss from Illustrator, though, is I heavily relied on the Pathfinder, more specifically the "Divide" operation. I was used to, for example, divide shapes using a curve, or divide multiple shapes to very reliably. As many pointed out, the experience in Designer is less than perfect - for one, you can only combine shapes with other shapes, and even so, in simple divisions, you get a ton of unwanted curves spliced off the intersections. I saw a bunch of posts describing the problem, but not really a lot of workarounds or solutions. So I'm writing this post to see if I can get something a little more constructive than 'Divide is still garbage' comments. So I guess I have 2 questions. One for the dev team: Where does this fall on your roadmap? Can you shed a light on if and when can we expect to see reliable divides integrated on the app? Another for the community: Do you have some good techniques / workarounds that you've found to overcome the divide limitations that you could share? Thanks in advance!
  15. Would be nice if you could add this. I know I can achieve it by closing open curve, but Illustrator does it and it's useful.
  16. Designer 1.8.3.641 on Windows 10 Home 1909. See my attached short video for some unexpected results after using the Divide function on two simple shapes. First application: Additional circle is created and rectangle has no hole. Second application: Shapes divided as expected leaving circle and rectangle with hole. Third application: Shape with no form created while rectangle has expected hole. Original file is also attached. 2020-05-07 12-28-23.mp4 unusual divide results.afdesign
  17. hello designers . i need some help in my practical logo design , i am a new affinity user and i do not know how to this logo by golden ratio , so if anyone can help me please tell me how to this , thanks. Desktop 2020.05.02 - 23.47.21.02.mp4
  18. I think Boolean - Divide tool has problem as attached video. divide.mp4
  19. Almost every time I run a boolean operation to divide or unite vector curves in AD, it freezes on me as shown in attached image. I have to force quit and restart the app and try again in smaller doses or move it to Illustrator and try again there. I have an iMac with 12GB of RAM - I don't know if the issue is I need more RAM, or if it's still a bug Affinity is fixing? I ordered more RAM recently, so I'll be able to try it again after installing it to see - but I wanted to see if anyone had any info pertaining to this issue - thanks!
  20. I am working with astro photos, converting the raw image to 16 bit TIFF images and stacking them. I have a few suggestions for you that would make my work smoother. I would be very grateful if you would implemented them. Suggestion 1: Would it be possible to change the default stack operator, like in the settings? I commonly use mean value rather than median value, and always have to correct it. Suggestion 2: Using Levels Adjustment, I have noticed that it is indeed possible to use decimal values for Black Levels, for instance 1.5 %, although this is not documented. This is very useful when working with 16 bit images. However, the value shown will always be the rounded integer value, in this case 2, even when the decimal value is used. Would it be possible to show a decimal digit, at least for levels below 10% ? Like, it would show 1.5% as the decimal value 1.5% instead of the integer value 2%. Suggestion 3: When working with astro photos it is very common to first subtract the dark current image, and then divide with a flatfield image. Subtraction is easy to do using the Subtract mode, but how to perform division is not so easy to find. By googling I have found that division is indeed possible to do by adding the flatfield image layer, adding an Invert Adjustment layer to it, and then changing to Colour Dodge mode. Since this is a "hidden" feature, would it be possible for you to simply combine these two steps into one, and name it Divide mode? A good reason for this: Any serious astro photographer who fails to find this hidden feature when searching the current documentation, and mistakenly rejects the usefulness of Affinity Photo because of this, would be pleasantly surprised to find that the feature does exist. P.S. I am currently using Affinity Photo 1.8.2 on a Mac.
  21. Hello, when I draw a line with as a stroke, I cannot cut the shape! As it can be seen in the video, I would want to cut the right-hand shape, like the shape on the left side but I cannot cut the shape with strokes ? I found another solution digging deep and I realized that I have "expand" the stroke then I would be able to execute the operation. However, with regular stroke, I would not be able to cut the shape? cut shape with stroke.mp4
  22. I am extremely new to working with vector art...and affinity, please forgive my lack of correct terminology. I am trying to go from the first picture with a blue prop (It is colored blue for clarity) to the second picture . This is for screen printing. Everything in the dark blue is supposed to be shirt. On the 2nd picture, I have been trying to subtract/ divide that part of the stroke of the ellipse so that it cuts the stroke into the aircraft and prop. I have tried converting the ellipse to curves, as well. If at all possible, I'd like for the fill of the prop to reach the outer edge of the "subtracted" stroke. Note* the windows have already been subtracted Question: I think I figured out part of what I was doing wrong...trying to subtract more than one layer will make things disappear?
  23. I'm working thru the Designer workbook in 1.7.1 on my Mac, and when I try the ice cream cone geometry boolean exercise, I'm seeing something strange with the divide exercise. It took me a while to figure out the illustration was only after they had (unwritten) manually repositioned the major pieces to show it. However, when I do the divide with the 4 large original shapes I get a total of 58 curves including 48 tiny sliver slices in addition to the major resulting pieces. That can't be the way the divide tool should work should it? Erich
  24. Hello everyone! (I am new here, so pardon me if I posted my issue in the wrong category.) I've been playing around with Affinity Designer on and off for the past year and a half. I really want to fully transition to Designer (coming from Illustrator), but I keep bumping into the same little annoying issues that would make my workflow painfully slow. One issue in particular has to do with the Boolean operations. I've seen this question raised a few times on the forum before, but no solution so far. Will there ever be? The problem It appears that the Boolean Divide action doesn't work well with shapes that have one or more overlapping edges. The result is a big mess. You either get the compound shape partially divided or not at all. Then you would also get those pesky thin "hair" lines coming out parts of the resulted group. Artifacts... artifacts everywhere! Anyone can replicate this issue in a matter of seconds with basic shapes. Create a square and a circle of the same size. Apply different fills. Align them to the center of the spread and make sure that the square is behind the circle in order to see the individual pieces better. Divide both shapes using the Boolean actions panel. Normally you should have the four corners of the square that are seen outside the circle cut into separate pieces. The result would be 5 shapes in total (including the ellipse in the center). However, Affinity Designer has something else in mind (see images below). I have given up hope that they will fix this bug. Therefore, can anyone suggest an alternative work-around method for this issue instead? Thanks in advance!
