  1. Hey everyone, When I make my noise reduction changes while in the Develop persona, then click develop, they suddenly all go away. I've tried doing this while making other changes in Develop, as well as while making no other changes. I can see the changes happen, but they just don't translate when I go back to the Photo persona. Am I missing something?
  2. I am so frustrated. On my panel in the Develop persona, I have Basic, Lens, Tones. Overlays. Where is DETAILS? I've tried resetting the Studio, and everything else I can possibly think of. I'm ready to go back to Photoshop. It's driving me crazy.
  3. When using the up and down arrow keys for fine tuning exposure the increments are Full Stops of exposure. For fine tuning it would be great to add more control and make the increments a 1/3rd of a stop or smaller. Using the scrubby control works great but having keyboard control would be a great addition. The other controls in the Develop Persona have really fine increments when using the up and down arrow keys - just not exposure :( Thanks for listening.. MK
  4. I am new to Affinity Photo and am having trouble figuring out an error message that I get when attempting to quit the program. It states, "At least one file is currently being developed. Please complete or cancel before quitting." Seems straightforward enough but how do I know which file(s) it is talking about. I am not sure where my mistake in developing the files lies. If I load in 50 files do I have to search through them all individually to find the culprit(s)? What am I missing in the process of adjusting the files so as not to keep getting the message? As of now when I get the message I end up force quitting the program and getting on with the rest of my life. Frustrating. Thanks for any help. Bill Allen
  5. I downloaded the latest Affinity Photo betas and I notice new extensions!!!! This is awesome!!! Can I make some requests? 1) Can we have a scroll bar on the Develop extension so I can see all the adjustments? I cannot set most of the noise adjustment when the window is too small. 2) Can we also add brush/gradiant overlay for local adjustments for Develop extension? 3)Also can we also add a level and curves adjustment to the Develop extension? Thank you very much!!!! This stuff is getting more awesome with each update!!!
  6. I am new to AP so I'm sure I'm completely missing something, but after I make my image adjustments in the Develop Persona and then click develop, I'm only seeing my original image without any of the changes that I made. I open my RAW file I make adjustments I click develop My image reverts to the original Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
  7. Editing raw in Develop I have the useful option to use brush or gradient overlays. However I note the clarity slider becomes unavailable which is a shame as it would be useful to be able to paint in some clarity. Is there something I am missing? Thanks
  8. Sorry to bang on about this, but two problems from 1.3.5.7 remain in 1.3.5.10. They relate to the Photos.app Extension. 1. Only one Extension Persona can be used on each image as the image resets as you switch from one Extension Persona to another. 2. The Develop Extension does not work with my raw files (.dng). A black or blank (chequerboard) image results. The main app (AP) works fine. Do you have plans to fix these, please?
  9. How can I save a file from affinity photo to jpg (300 dpi). Right now when I am export to jpg, the dpi is 96.
  10. It looks like I have to manually apply lens corrections, like CA. These issues are normally covered in camera. Does this have to do with AP not recognizing my Fujinon lenses? Applying these corrections is very difficult without some profiles.
  11. Here's hoping this is the last of many posts spread throughout the Forum regarding development of RAW files in APB (because they will have been fixed in RC 1 ;) ). However, FWIW it seems that the Digital Assistant is at the bottom of many of the issues. Some posts have been to the effect that the Develop persona in .25787 has benefitted greatly from the DA. Other folks have almost given up after getting blown out whites or funereal blacks. I was mainly in the former group, but have recently had a bunch of unusable developed files (mostly in the "funereal" category). However, re-reprocessing with DA off, and doing minimal manipulations in the DP before going to Photo Persona for the main editing, gave results that were in a different league all together. So, looking forward to RC 1, and if there is no change, will post this as a bug. With thanks to MikeFromMesa for helpful discussions that led to this conclusion.
  12. In the Develop Persona>Tones>Curves, unless I'm missing something, there isn't a way to reset only my Red curve without resetting the blue and green as well. That would be a nice feature. It's easy enough to drag it back to its default position, but a reset button would be nice.
  13. Used the develop persona to tweak this (took it in a café this morning) Nice tools.
  14. Hi again, I'm not sure if this is just an issue with raw files from certain cameras but here's what I'd like to offer as a feedback regarding the develop persona as it is at the moment (my raw files are from a Canon 450D, my test file is rather 3 stops underexposed, my comparison to other raw converters is capture one and adobe camera raw): - as mentioned in previous posts raw files are already adjusted when opened with affinity photo. I think this might be a good thing when the settings of the adjustment would be visible in the specific categories of the develop persona, but as it is, the sliders are all in neutral. Also, it would be good to have the option to switch the auto adjustment on and off. - especially compared to capture one, but also compared to camera raw, the development of underexposed images contain much more noise (color noise that is) when being exposed to similar levels, and that in the end costs a lot of detail when being removed by the denoise tools - exposure control is lacking subtle steps in adjusting the exposure, - I'd love to have the option of double clicking on the sliders to go back to the original setting That's it for now, all the best to you guys and keep up the good work!! PS: I'd like to add that when I open the jpeg of the same underexposed image and use the Exposure adjustment layer the image quality is much better, much less noisy and comparable to what the exposure in Photoshop has to offer
  15. Hi there I'm having the first look on the software, and till now look great. fast, things are easy to find, preset ready to go. That's good. Now, what I've notice is that the develop persona have some great capabilities, (like the easy to generate mask) that I cannot find the the photo persona. What I'm not sure if the develop is just a RAW editor to use before go to the standard or is a tool I can use later. If I might suggest, what it could be a great use (and not just a clone of photoshop) it will be to include a full editor of raw file fully integrated with the software. Just to explain, what is the main defect of the photoshop in raw file (using camera raw), is that first you set thing, then you enter photoshop. If you want to extract dark areas and lighter areas you have to open twice the image. Now, your masking system help, but still not having the full software doesn't make a real difference. To give you a clear example: I'm a architect photographer. Most of my works require manual HDR (shooting an interior with natural light can go easily with +2/-2 EV pics; while taking picture of a huge window could require a full bracket from +2EV to -8EV), but most of the time one single RAW file can do the job. As I mention, in the photoshop camera raw system, the best way to do it is the open twice (or 3 time) the image, place them one on top of the other, and then use the full photoshop (not just the camera raw) to set the masks. That means I'm working on a raster image and I've lost most of the RAW properties. Another tool that is mandatory my field is the lens correction. And this is the main clash with the camera raw system. To use I need a good tool (by the way, you definitely need to insert a guide-grid in the lens correction tool, or it is totally useless), so I end up to use a third party plugin (PTlens). Depending on the image I have 2 workflow: either i correct the lens distortion as first step, either as the last one (especially when I have 4-5 layer of different exposure images, doing the lens correction on all the layer became a very slow process). As it is now, I found no "lens correction tool" inside the software, that is basically the same mistake of the camera raw software. What I'm suggesting is to have a full integrated RAW system (basically how Aperture works), which allows you full edit a RAW preserving the RAW potential and parameter or, the possibility to go back to the RAW edit in any moment. Having the "first I set something - then I open and I set something else" system is totally pointless and makes RAW files useless. Hope this help to develop your software, I saw great potential, but still need many touches.
  16. After a day of playing around in the various "personas," I certainly enjoy the UI of Affinity Photo Beta and am impressed with it's drawing speed with large image files. I also commend Serif for it's ambitious efforts to provide another suite of photo/image editing software. That being said, I have noticed many areas of improvement regarding a basic post-processing work flow. Note: I'm assessing this software as a landscape and astrophotographer who currently uses the Adobe suite for post-processing. My recommendations are highly biased, so take it with a grain of salt. Develop Persona: My biggest beef with this module begins simply with the importing of the image to be processed. Opening an unprocessed RAW image (in my case .CR2) within the develop persona apparently causes the program to analyze the histogram and produce automatic adjustments to the image, especially when using high ISO images or where much of the image may be over/underexposed. This processing produces a high degree of noise which requires significant luminance and noise reduction to return the noise levels to "as-shot" conditions, though of course with significant degradation of image quality. When compared to the unprocessed RAW image as viewed in preview, Lightroom, CameraRAW, or any other software, the Affinity photo histogram shows that it has been normalized to what it considers a properly exposed image. This is not the purpose of a RAW editor! Please leave the edits up to the user. I will attach a screen shot to demonstrate the difference between an unmodified image opened in Affinity Photo's "Develop Persona" and Lightroom. When viewing an image without lens exif data (i.e. produced by non-chipped lenses), exif data from other open images is still displayed at the top of the window even though it does not pertain to the image in the current edit session (also shown on screen shot). Add an edit history tab in this persona. When performing RAW edits, I prefer to have the option to jump back to a certain look in my edit history or even back to the original imported image. There are history tabs in all other personas. The white balance slider units should be in temperature kelvin rather than % deviation. Include lens correction profiles rather than just manual adjustment sliders. Include the use of the keyboard to nudge sliders side to side, as it facilitates quicker edits. Edits must be committed or canceled prior to entering another persona. Once the edits are committed, you cannot re-enter the Develop Persona even though the image is still in it's RAW format (although, a dialog box does appear stating that the ability to re-enter Develop may be added in future betas). Photo Persona: The crop tool is primitive. It only facilitates a free-crop with no ability to maintain aspect ratio and provides no aspect ratio options. Fix! Brush sizes can only be changed by clicking on pre-set sizes in the Brushes tab. Add on-the-fly brush size changes using the keyboard and/or mouse wheel. Export Persona: I see that the canvas size and document dpi are changed in the document preferences. It would be nice to see these on the Export Persona, especially since there's an awful lot of unused space on the persona sidebar. Macro Persona: Crashes almost every time I open the persona. Good luck with the beta testing and modifications. I look forward to the program developing towards it's real potential. Cheers.
