  1. I've probably missed this is the help file, and probably didn't phrase the question correctly in my forum search (or I was not in the same forum: more than one might apply). Scenario Imagine I've taken 20-50 photos with a given lens or lighting setup in one scenario, then another whole set of images with a different lens (or lighting setup). Not so unusual. Steps in AP Developer The first time I open an image in the Develop Persona I can't predict what settings will be needed: I must interactively adjust them to get it to its best, so I do so... Problem Then, now that I know that my following 19-49 images will be fairly similar, how can I copy just certain Develop Persona settings from the first image (above step), and paste them over to other images? Or even just the next image from the set that I've opened? It's definitely possible with other apps, and I'm sure it's probably possible with AP too, but I've failed to find it. Hoping a friendly user can direct me to the correct phrasing to use (for either a forum or the online help), and I can run with it from there... Thanks in advance!
  2. I import a raw file and it will open in the Develop Persona. The History panel records the changes. Satisfied, (I click Develop and the image now opens in the Photo Persona. I make a few changes but want to return to the Develop Persona to make changes. The History of previous changes are gone. Every is reset as though it is a brand new image and the changes I made earlier are set in stone. I cannot save with history, nor is there a sidecar file with the recorded settings. Am I missing something?
  3. Hi all, I have affinity photo on Mac and ipad since one year ago. After starting using it for few days on ipad I stopped using it since then because the raw developer was much worse quality than the Macbook one, especially in darkness, highlights and the exaggerated contrast slider effect (even at 1%) compared to the Mac one. Yesterday I updated it on both platforms to 1.7 hoping that finally the issue in the different "develop" outputs between the two versions was solved (reading all the nice changelogs). Unfortunately I found to be even worse than one year ago before comparing the same RAW file straight out from my sony a7r2. Am I doing something completely wrong or it safe to assume that it's unusable on ipad? Here I just did a quick test, and I upload the RAW file as well so anyone can try. so first, UNEDITED RAWs in develop persona. open the raw in both platform and the histogram is completely different already, you can see how much is underexposed on ipad compared to the one on Mac. The whole spectrum is shifted to the left. You might say "just crank up the exposure on ipad", but that's not the point. Did you notice all the ruined colors in the water reflections? the reflections in ipad looks like totally burned (giant color stains). If you don't have the computer/ipad with you it's even visible in the two attached screenshot "unedited ipad" vs "unedited mac". let's move to the second example, EDITED RAWs, in develop persona. Exposure raised on both to 0.53EV and contrast to 1%, that's it. Photo "edited mac" is perfectly usable now, photo "edited ipad" needs to be trashed immediately, all the details are gone black. I hope someone can finally enlighten me, I don't know what else to do. Probably is my fault as well that I never found time to write this down in one year time. Thanks! Photo_27-12-18,_8_01_14_AM.arw
  4. Archive.zip 2017 033 - 18.tif only opens in "Develop persona, whereas 2017 033 - 19.tif opens as expected.
  5. Hello there, We have moved almost all our photo editing into Affinity Photo (on beta 1.7.0.350 at the moment). Before that, we used other software such as Lightroom, Photoshop, Darktable and the Gimp. We were also lucky to grab a copy of the Workbook before it went temporarily out of print a month or two ago. While on Lightroom, a feature that we got so used to was the "Solo Mode". This feature automatically collapses all panels except the working panel, reducing a lot of unnecessary clutter, and making navigation easier. We can't seem to do something similar on Affinity Photo's develop mode, even manually collapse a panel without disabling it. After getting used to the clutter-free editing with the Solo Mode, living without it gets so annoying, and I'm sure we are not alone. It would be a much more pleasant editing experience if something similar can be implemented as an option. Thanks a lot, and please keep up the good work!
  6. I everyone and I Affinity Support Team, I just bought a new Fujifilm XT-100. I can't open the RAF file in Affinity Photo (latest release for MacOs 1.6.7). I had no issues using my old Nikon D3200. No way, I can see only a white vertical stripe. No images. What's the problem? Thank you
  7. Here's something that's confusing me. Is it a bug? Open a raw image (mine is .arw from Sony A7R2, 42mpx sensor, 40m compressed raw) Click on Develop. When you get to Photo persona, image is a lot 'whiter' Histogram has shifted. Illustrated in attached video, including comparison with AP V1.6, where 'whitening' doesn't happen but histogram shift does. Yes, I know there's a blue spike at the right of the RAW histogram. I decreased exposure to bring this in. Same effect on Develop. It also happens with other images. What's happening here? Any bugs in the woodwork? (In experimenting, turning Gamma (in Levels) up to 2 improves/restores things, as does pulling Curves mid-point down).
  8. Hi If I develop a raw file in the develop persona including tonal, black and white points, shadows and highlights and sharpening, etc.. then go to the photo persona. Do you then do more adjustments to the same or should I leave things as they are (newbie!) Also, if I have sharpened in Develop, do I sharpen again for print? Or is it just down to personal choice. Just looking for some general guidelines I guess! Thanks....
  9. Hi, I'm trying to draw on a photo. I'm sure there are a dozen ways to do this but the Overlay Paint Tool in the Develop module seems to be one. How do I use it? I can draw ok with the tool but this creates an Overlay layer under the Master layer. I can't change the opacity of the master layer so the drawing is only visible when I select that Overlay. I can't see any way to move the layers or to flatten the layers so my brush strokes are invisible under a 100% opacity master layer and vanish as soon as I move to the Photo persona. Help! Thanks, John
  10. Love using the overlay grandient tool in develop mode. But why can't I adjust clarity inside the selected area?
  11. I am getting this problem when I try to aply red eye in the develop persona. It doesn't always happen but it almost seems to be deleting part of the image as it shows the checker pattern.
  12. Hi I'm moving over to Affinity from Photoshop. One feature of PS [in ACR] is the ability to adjust saturation & luminence separately for each individual colour [red /orange / yellow/ purple etc]. This seems to be missing from Develop persona in Affinity. The only way of approaching it seems to be with Curves [ only for RGB & therefore well near impossible for other tones] or by altering white balance [which is a bit of a blunt instrument]. You can do it to a certain extent with selective colour & HSL in Photo persona, but even here you are only adjusting colour bias, not luminence, & in any case working on the Raw file creates better results. Have I misssed something, please?
  13. I am used to adjusting individual colours, both saturation & luminence in Adobe Camera Raw. Affinity's Develop mode does not seem to provide this. Global saturation & hue are there, but no adjustment for individual colours. Have I missed something?
  14. Hi, I finally DLed the trial version of Affinity Photo yesterday to make sure it works for my images / gear. I have a couple of initial questions. 1) As I shoot only in RAW, am I always launched into the Develop persona? Do I make my adjustments there before moving to the Photo persona? A lot of instructional tutorials start at the Photo persona. Is that because people input JPG images? 2) The RAW image thumbnails are not visible when choosing photos to import. Is there a way around that? 3) I posted a forum question about my gear not being supported as yet (Canon 77D & Sigma 18-300mm lens) but see the following: As both are listed, does thaty mean that the s/w is able to pick them up & I'm able tomake adjustments based on them specifically? To have these listed under cameras & lenses in the future, what exactly do I have to do? 4) I have only just started playing with one photo & in the Develop persona again, under profiles, there's no camera profile, only output profile: What difference will that make to what I can do? |Is the camera profile that listed in the image ablove? - ie the same as the output profile? 5) There are so many tutorials out there but the beginner basic ones seem to relate to the photo persona. I did find one on the develop persona but it woudl be ever so helpful to have one, or a series even that dealt with beginners who shoot in RAW & need a basic workflow to start them off. Thanks so much. Julie.
  15. I am using AP 1.6.7 on a 5K iMac, current OS. I am working on images of 20000x15000 pixels at 72dpi and around a dozen smaller image layers averaging about 1000 px. The small images(SI) come from jpegs. Open the SI by dragging it onto AP icon. Opens fine, shows as a pixel image, develop time instantaneous. Drag the same image onto my large background. Shows as an image layer, rasterize to pixel. Select the layer and develop. Develop time goes to many seconds. As the number of layers build up, develop time for any individual layer increases, until it reaches many minutes to never. Select a SI layer, copy and create new image from clipboard. Develop time, with no background, is long. Export the SI to jpeg, reopen in AP and develop time is instant. It would appear that once an image is rasterized, develop times take much longer. There is more detail, but the increasing develop time is the main issue here. Otherwise, AP is working just great for me. I shoot everything HDR and AP tone mapping is a killer feature.
  16. Hi all, Is it possible to rotate a photo using the Develop extension in Apple’s Photos.app? I imported a number of RAW+JPEGs from my Fuji X-T20 to Photos.app, which imported the orientation correctly. But when I go to the Develop extension they revert to sensor orientation, and I can’t find a way to rotate them in the Develop extension. It’s kind of distracting to adjust highlights and shadows on a 90º-rotated subject.
  17. Ehy guys, yesterday I needed and probably will need in the future the ability to rotate RAW images in develop persona since Windows itself isn't able to do it. Rotating via the crop tool context toolbar is very difficult so it'd be nice to have the facility I've written above.
  18. Hi guys, I have taken a number of time-lapse images in Sony Raw and want to develop them. I can't see a way to do this in a batch. Is this correct? Leigh
  19. When editing an image in Develop Persona the Crop tool does not offer an accept/reject (tick/x) option. How do I 'initiate' the crop while remaining in Develop persona? Solved. After setting up a crop how do I cancel it?
  20. Hello ! My normal develop persona work flow for the Mac desktop version of Affinity Photo is to use the selection brush as a new later and "snap to edges" for a clean selection. Ie if I shoot backlit portraits I will select the subject in a new layer in the develop persona and work on that alone without touching the background. For the life of me, I cannot find an option to snap to edges for the selection brush in the iPad version of Photo. Is this not an option?
  21. I have recently purchased affinity photo. Whenever i open a raw image and then develop it so i can edit the image in photo persona, the image becomes noticeably pixelated. Any help? Thanks, Zach
  22. Recent threads such as this one by @Gregory St. Laurent have commented on the default image when a raw is loaded into the Develop Persona being too dark (or too light or ...) as compared with other programs. My experience, with my rather old Sony A55 camera, is that the default image in the Develop Persona is fine in 95% of the time, and that any tweaking needed is done in the Photo Persona. The odd 5% are those images taken under odd lighting conditions, but even with these, I will typically bracket the shots and merge in HDR. I would be interested to hear from other uses of Sony cameras (old and new). Have you had these problems that are described elsewhere? If not, then it would seem that the default develop algorithm for ARW files is closer to what is expected as compared with CR2 or NEF files. John
  23. Hello everyone ! I just wanted to start a new thread with some creativity First, I'm an amateur photograph and by no way I am gifted at all the professional photo editing; while there are tons of tutorials in affinity photo, I can't seem to be able to have "the best result" ouf of my pictures. That's why I decided to give the community a try by sharing some of my RAW images and what I could do with them on my own. Then, you guys could try and edit the image with your own ideas and creativity. I think it would allow beginner people like me to have other thoughts and ideas during the post process operation. The rules are simple : - Only use Affinity Photo - Try and avoid using external plugins (Nik's collection for example, or specify when used) - Upload your own results in good quality (download file is much appreciated) - If you want the community to pimp your image, the RAW you submit must be free of use (non commercial, for training only, etc) - If you want, detail the process of operations (curves used, shadows, filters, etc...) - Have fun, and open mind in critics ! Not everybody is using professional gear So I'm gonna start with a couple of samples : Copenhagen Picture 1 : Link to RAW file And my edit (I want to create a wallpaper for my phone but I'm not happy of my result) : Copenhagen Picture 2 : RAW File link My edit : India - Hyderabad Link to RAW file My edit : Thanks, and happy editing !
  24. Lets say I want to develop 5 RAW files. They require all the same develop settings like white balance, curve adjustment, pre sharpening and lens corrections, to mention just a few. Is there an easy way or do I have to make 4 separate presets in the Basic, Tones, Detail and Lens tab?
  25. Hi! I have some presets defined, but I found, that changing from one preset to another, changes picture, but not all values in Affinity Photo (some changes, but i.e. color balance not). It can be misleading. Is that how presets works? Any changes in next versions?
