  1. The exported PNG looks very different to the original. What am I doing wrong? I have chosen PNG with 16 Bit, even a JPG export looks the same as the PNG export. Thank you for any help Ortwin App Icon with Template.afdesign
  2. Hi, in Designer I created a line with the pen tool. At the beginning an the end of the line there goes a "magic" dotted line away from start- and end-point. (attached an example for the start-point). This dotted line also appears in export and so on. You can also see it at http://www.wuwei-qigong.de(the round pic at the top) How can I "delete" this dotted line? Best, Tom
  3. Greetings to the forum, I've been using the trial versions of both Designer and Photo until yesterday when I purchased both full versions .. INCREDIBLY AWESOME replacements to the big cumbersome apps of the past. But .. I have a question. I'm using Designer to work on a .pdf file which has now been saved as an .afdesign file, and there are 'many many' layers. The program felt a little slow while I was doing a move, and Designer locked up fo a while ... so while waiting I checked in my Activity Monitor to see whether I was running out of RAM (6 total, only using 4, not ideal but not bad), then did a terminal: "top -n 10 -o cpu" to see how busy the CPU was .. I saw that no matter what was going on, Affinity Designer was never using more than 100%, which was a little ODD .. I have an 8 core 2008 Mac Pro, which while admittedly old, usually shows most programs using 500 or 600% when they start to get thirsty for processing power like this. I'd like to know if Designer is able to use multiple CPU cores, and if so, what's going on with my setup? (EDIT: Just noticed that sometimes it uses more than one core (saw some 455% here and there), but when it's doing a big move of curves, Designer only uses 1 core .. does this make sense?) I have a Mac Pro 3,1 2 x 2.8 ghz Quad-Core Xeon .. running the latest of ElCapitan 10.11.1 I only have 6 gigs of 800 mhz DDR2 installed as they're crazy expensive still due to all the cooling and mac certification etc.
  4. Hi, I've recently copied and pasted various elements from sketch files into designer without any issues, However recently I've been trying to do it again and when I paste them in, they turn out blurry. I tested this using a file that has worked in the past for me, making be believe the issue is with designer and not sketch. It is possible a setting that's been altered? Thanks. Before After
  5. I'm in Designer. I've used the text tool to create some text. I'd like to select the pixels of the created text to create a selection, after which I'd like to invert the selection. In other, non-text type layers I can hold down ⌘(command) and click the given layer's icon in the Layers menu to select all its pixels, then ⇧⌘i to invert the selection. However, this doesn't appear to work in a text layers. How can I select the pixels of text layer?
  6. Thank you Affinity team for your two great apps (for now, can't wait for publisher)! I design sewing patterns and do some fashion flats illustration and would love to be able to complete my full workflow in Affinity Designer. To do so I need a line tool were I could import a specific measurement and have the line created to those specifications. It would also be great to be able to measure curves and the perimeter of shapes. Having units like mm, cm and inches would be awesome. There is a plugin for illustrator called Vector Scribe that a lot of sewing desgners use. If this feature becomes available I promise to spread the word amongst the fashion design community. I know a bunch of us can't wait to say goodbye to Adobe. I like what I see in Affinity. Can't wait for Artboards to become available.
  7. Hello, This is my first post, so hello to all! Am using APhoto and love it so decided to look at Designer. Downloaded the trial today and when launched was greeted with "This trial has expired." I never even got to try it. At some point it looks like I downloaded a beta of Designer but couldn't use it because it's for Designer owners only. Not sure when I downloaded and tried to run it, but it has been a few months for sure. Any way, I deleted the beta out of Applications, but certainly that's not going to delete the super-secret time limit file off my machine. Any way I can fix this? I want to try a couple of files before I commit. Pretty sure I'm just going to buy it anyway but I want to try, ya know? Thanks and keep up the good work! Greg
  8. Hello! I am a font designer and I constantly use the Application font folder in Adobe Illustrator. The folder I'm referring to is cited here in the section "About Fonts": http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/fonts.html My workflow involves editing glyphs in my font editor, then exporting the font files to this Adobe font folder. This is important because I can test small changes in my fonts very quickly without needing to install and uninstall fonts to and from the system (which often requires a restart.) We're talking about hours and hours of time saved thanks to this folder. It's vital to my work. There are other benefits to this folder. Say you've purchased a new font and you're not sure if you're going to use it very much, or just want quickly to test it on a single project. You can drop the files in this folder and test it out in Illustrator without installing the font in your system. Is there a chance of seeing a similar feature in Affinity Designer? This feature is the only reason I still use Adobe Illustrator. Without it, though, I cannot fully make the switch to Designer. None of the competition offers this feature either. Thanks for your consideration.
  9. I'd like the ability to remove tools from the standard palette (in both Photo and Designer), especially subset items. There are so many tools that I don't use that I'd like to remove them, and I'd like the ability to pull commonly used subset items (like Rectangle, Ellipse, etc. from the Shapes tool) and place them on the "main" level. I'm hoping removing unused tools would also remove them from the keyboard shortcuts/toggles (in Photo, for example, "B" cycles between four different tools, two of which I don't use).
  10. Which Reset option in the Miscellaneous panel of Designer's preferences will do the least resetting of all my options and still return my color palette to its original layout? As you can see from the attached screenshot, several colors have been accidentally dragged out of position (imo, it's too easy to move them; I'd like to see a modifier key needed in addition to a drag in order to move the colors around), and I'd like to return the order to what it was originally:
  11. Hi, I'm using the trial version and a newbie... All I want to do is turn this photo from what it is to a size of 1200x625px. This is to satisfy image size for posting on FB. Here's my attempt: 1) Remove white background. 2) Resize to 1200 x 625 (girl's height becomes 625). 3) Add back a white background. 4) Save for web. Photo attached. It's take a capable user about 60 seconds but i want instructions not the end result. I thought this video by mixmediasalad might help: https : // www. youtube.com/watch?v=aP7eBT6lLWc (please remove the spaces) At 2:10, he uses a Select>Select Sampled Colour. But I don't see any menu items below 'Select Previous'. Maybe my approach is wrong. Image upload wasn't working. Please see image here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43527158/image.jpg Please help. JJ
  12. I did a search on feature requests on slices, and didn't really see anything on this or in the roadmap. I did see a post that there is more to come for Exporting Personal, but here is a feature(s) I've come to want while working with AD. In Export Personal (AD), if you create multiple slices, they are literally all over the design, yet we have a palette dedicated to the management of those slices. I would suggest that the palette be the "controller" of showing and hiding slices created by a simple selection(s). So, instead of slices constantly cluttering the design, with only corner anchor points being the highlight a slice is selected, hide the slice unless that slice is selected within the palette. This would greatly clear up the interface and provide good UX. Especially since you already have to select the slice that you want to export, this would give clear visual feedback of what a user is exporting without all the clutter of other slices. In addition, to further enhance this, by selecting multiple slices within the palette, it could group slices as a composite export selection. This would allow us to define potential elements of export through slices, without literally having to create every possibility. See attachment. So, since the slices palette already is the determining factor of what is getting exported, and if we hide the slices unless selected, then being able to select multiple elements for different variations of exports would be wonderful as a composite of those selected slices. If anything, at least hide the slices' bounding boxes unless it is selected within the slices palette. Otherwise, it can get very unruly.
  13. Hello, This morning I upgraded my MBPretina (Mid 2012) to the official release version of El Capitan and now bot Affinity Photo and Designer stopped both working. When I try to boot them I get this message: What I tried so far: • Reinstalling both Photo and Designer from the MAS • Resetting the apps by CTRL-click-opening them and resetting all userdata It seems that this is not a common problem since I seem to be the only one with this problem. Any tips or ideas how I can solve this? I'll be glad to give you more info if needed. Thanks, Willem
  14. Hi All, New to Designer and still getting use to the software and features. I am having some trouble with exporting a project to EPS format for production on a laser cutter. I have masked a texture with a region so that the texture lines only appear within the region bounds (accomplished by making the texture a sub-layer of the region). The exported EPS file looks fine but when it is loaded into the laser cutter the texture's hidden lines (outside of the region's boundary) appear. The EPS does not 'flatten' the layers and remove the hidden lines (issue is similar to the one explained here: http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13723, they just have pretty pictures). I have attached the original EPS file and a snapshot of what the laser cutter sees. Is there an easy way to remove these hidden lines from the EPS file? Thanks in advance for the help, Sean Test Cut.eps
  15. Hi Everyone - flummoxed again :) I have a mosaic that I made, each square a separate vector element in a different color. I'll be using this image over and over, but each time in a different context. One thing I need to do is convert them all to grey scale. I need to keep them as individual editable items but can't figure out how to take them all and get rid of their color all at once. I know how to do that once it's saved as pixels, but not vector. I tried the different layer blending modes, but the closest I got turned them all a bit brown. Hope this isn't confusing! Thanks in advance!
  16. Would love to give Designer another shot, but I use sublayers in my AI files for mainly organizational purposes. When importing .ai file into Designer it brings in layers, but the sublayers are gone, so all the "insides" of the layers (hundreds of items) are all flat in the parent layers. Attached screenshots of a piece of my AI files layers and what I get in Designer.
  17. I was just about to pull the plug on buying Photo and Designer but saw in the almost fine print on Designer that it does not install on Case Sensitive Volumes? Seriously? That leaves me out - I do NOT do Case Insensitive Volumes on any of my machines. Any plans to change this? What about Photo? Does that have the same problem?
  18. Hi all, I want to - place a photo in a Designer doc; - put a bunch of vector shapes on top; - and use them to chop up the photo into those shapes. Is there a tutorial that would show the use of shapes as cookie cutters like that? Thanks in advance! - pbass
  19. I set up a mostly text-only doc in Designer for layout; used an actual paid-for HTF font, and it looks great on screen. When printing, or exporting to PDF, I get postscript hash text instead of the font/text. Font was manually activated using Font Explorer, and I've had zero issues with the font or printing the font using Illustrator in the past. Also tested the font using TextEdit, no issues there, either. Any idea? This is as close to a deal breaker as it gets for me; seems unwieldy/antiquated to convert text to curves to print or export.
  20. Query - and a possible feature request if I'm right about this - something I noticed when using the Vector Brush Tool in Af.Designer with daub brushes at low opacity (c.10%) to build up the depth of colour gradually with multiple strokes. 1. If I make say 7 overlayed distinct strokes at 10% opacity, raising the brush between each one, then I get (presumably) 70% opacity where they overlay each other. 2. If on the other hand I make 7 strokes without raising the brush - in fact one stroke but with roughly 180 degree changes of direction back and forth over the same area - then I only get 10% opacity. Where the same stroke crosses back over itself there is no increase in opacity as of course there would be if this was a real paint brush. I can see that the constant opacity would be essential if you were filling in a shape and wanted uniform colour despite overlapping / overlaying but it would be useful to have the option of building up opacity where a single stroke passes back over itself as it would in reality. It would also reduce the number of strokes recorded in the Layers which rapidly build up to frightening levels if I do a lot of choppy, ‘expressive’ brushwork. Is there any way to build up opacity by running one vector brush stroke back and forth over itself ? I had thought this option might already be available within the “More” options brush control panel or could be modified by changing the Blend Mode but if it is already there I haven’t been able to find it. You might be thinking “Why is this fool using vector brushes at all when this sounds like something he ought to be doing in Pixel Persona (or indeed in Af.Photo if he had any sense) ?”. Well, because I generally prefer to stick with pure vector work where possible. (Note : Pixel brushes seem to work in the same way - i.e. no increase in opacity where the same stroke crosses back over itself.) Perhaps this “build-up opacity when re-crossing self” behaviour could be available as an an option ? Pretty minor I know and not really worth the trouble unless it’s something you could do easily. [if I haven't missed this feature then please shift this topic to the Feature Requests section.]
  21. I want to export a design for print as PDF with crop marks. I set the margins in the document setup but when I export it, there is no crop marks on the PDF. Is this still to be implemented?
  22. I was using AD Trial, then bought AD Full but still had work open in the Trial, which then promptly crashed on me a day after the trial expired, taking a bunch of unnamed documents with it. Running the Trial just tells me that it’s expired, then opens the App Store. Running the Full version does not give me an option to recover the crashed (autosaved) documents. Which files do I need to move from where to where to make AD Full see them on startup and offer recovery?
  23. Dear Forum Users, I ve seen on Vimeo a clip where the IPad is in use with Affinity Designer. Is it really possible because i ve read something about a duration when the IPad version is available? Thanks Hourmin
  24. Dealing with Slices in AD is a nightmare, I have resorted to using CS6. Snapping does not work for anything but other slices. The Slice selection tool does nothing, the create tool has to be used carefully to select. Some sort of automated process is needed, Slices from Guides is the most obvios I can think of
  25. I suggest the implementation of "INERTIA" settings in both "Affinity DESIGNER"(especially) and "Affinity PHOTO";Alike you can change the behavior of tools in Artrage. so your curves etc. smooth out while you draw. Just like you would apply more pressure to the tool, which would normally have the effect in reality of not being able to move so fast. (Would be much easier to draw specific curves...(sry4myenglish)
