Hi, When I go to print a photo on my HP Envy printer, the colours are far too dark / saturated. If I print from the windows photo app the colours are about right. I'm using Kodak glossy photo paper - pretty standard stuff I assume(?) - though right now I'm also trying plain paper to debug until I'm somewhere in the right ball park. What would be the recommended printer profile for a home printer with photo or plain papers? Lots of options but most seem to be aimed at professional printers rather than than home inkjet etc. Probably starting the obvious but I assume the soft proof settings should match the printer settings? Win 7, Aff Photo, v 1.8.3.641, LG W2442PA I used to use the Light UI but have switched to the Dark UI. With the Light UI I could easily tell from the Context Toolbar which file I was working on when I had two files up with identical images. With the Dark UI it is nearly impossible for me to tell at a glance which file I have up. It makes no difference if the ambient light in my studio is high or low. Could you make the Context Toolbar of the file that's on the screen in the Dark mode a significantly lighter shade of grey? That would be a great help, even more so when I am mucking around with three or more files open.

Changed background, added textures and lighting effect, dodging and burning locally, some cleaning. I was looking for some old dutch school feeling. Comments please! Mft

I have just got a Sony alpha 6600 with the kit lens 18-135. When I open the raw files in Affinity, the pictures are extremely dark. If I increase the exposure, the highlights are completely blown out. If I open the file in other viewers, the exposure is fine. Since I am new to Affinity, maybe I missing a setting or something? I don't see the lens in the list of supported lenses. Is that the problem? I am attaching a file. DSC00221.ARW

Images appear darker and with higher contrast in affinity compared to other applications (see uploaded image). The problem occurs with different file format (jpg, tiff, raw). When the file is exported with affinity and reopened in an other application the appearance is normal. Which means the high contrast and darkness is not saved in the image. The problem started with the upgrade to version 1.7.3. What I've tried so far: - Change color profile (Appearance changes but the high contrast and darkness remains) - Downgrade to 1.7.1 (-) - Reset settings (-) - Delete affinity files in appData folder (-) - Uninstall programs I've updated at the same time as affinity (Nikon NX...) (-) How can I fix this issue? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Windows 10 Home 1903, Publisher 1.7.2.471. Every now and again, seemingly randomly to me, Publisher hangs for a few seconds and then page background goes ‘dark’ or invisible. See attached image where you can see that the page background has ‘gone’, however, at the bottom of the image you can see where scrolling up a little has revealed part of the white page background. It happened this time while I was trying to drag a text frame but I’ve seen it when modifying tables and quite a few other times. I have never seen this happen with previous versions of Publisher, even the betas. I have only seen this behaviour on this document but this is the only document I have edited for any real length of time with this version of Publisher. The document was created using a production version of Publisher – I don’t know which one – and not a beta. Double-clicking on a spread in the Pages panel takes everything back to normal but it’s a bit disconcerting.

Hi, I'm new on this forum. Who can help me. My problem is that when I open a raw file (CR2) the develop persona shows a very dark image. This happens since a week and I'm rather sure that I didn't change any settings. Browsing through the topics on this forum I found different solutions but non of these work fine for me. I've tried to alter the 32-bits preview settings from "Unmanaged" to "ICC Display Transform". That wordked but ...only once. Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong? I appreciate your help.

I need help! Everytime I do a batch job from RAW to JPG, Affinity saves all the new JPG's much darker than before! Can anyone help me to avoid that? Greetings

When the Designer for iPad was released back in July, I read the post on Affinity Spotlight showing the works of artists who had used the beta version (https://affinityspotlight.com/article/affinity-designer-for-ipad-a-special-beta/), and I was immediately captivated by the work by Ilya Shapko titled "Mystic Beast": I am trying to produce these same effects in my own works, and not sure I nailed it yet. I did find and download the color palette for this work from Dribbble: (https://dribbble.com/shots/4821906-Mystic-Beast), but it appears that he used some effects that I am as yet unaware of. Does anyone here know what tricks (bright/contrast adjustment, etc.) he used to produce these stunningly eye-popping effects, which layers/elements he applied them to, and how he applied them? I checked his website a while back, and someone else had already asked him to produce a tutorial showing how he did this, but I don't think is he inclined to do so. I did do two projects from the Affinity Designer Workbook (which is itself an exquisite work of art and beauty) titled "The Panther" and "Reflected Skyline", both of which are colorful works with dark backgrounds. However, neither of them really discuss how to make the colors pop like Ilya is able to do. If anyone knows of other places where I can go to learn this, please do share.

First, I apologize that I have different aspects of this problem in different topics. Summary of Problem: On my MacBook Pro 17", to which a Thunderbolt Display is connected, I have developed a RAW file in AP Develop and specified the ROMM RGB for output. In the Photo persona I changed the Document | Colour Format to RGB (16 bit), setup my adjustment layers and live filter layer, then export the document as a JPG, 100% quality, using the ROMM RGB profile, which should be embedded. When I compare the exported file and the document in AP, both at full size, both either on the laptop display or on the Thunderbolt display, the JPG is much darker than the document as displayed in AP. Both displays have been calibrated using basICColor display and an X-rite i1 Display Pro. I have several color profiles for each display, D50 L* 160 cd/m², D50 2.2 160 cd/m², D65 L* 110 cd/m², etc. Regardless of which one I use, the JPG is alway much darker than the AP document when both are viewed at full size on the same display. Only when I set the color profile to the factory default does the document in AP become as dark as the JPG, which does not seem to change much. (☚ Thanks to @owenr for the suggestion after doing some valuable tests!) Clearly, the take-home message cannot be, so just use the factory profiles, especially given the ages of the laptop (late 2011) and the Thunderbolt display (bought second-hand several years ago). Testing my Understanding: For some time I have been assuming the the export must be the culprit, but @owenr graciously tested my .afphoto on his (her?) Mac and verified that the JPG as displayed by Preview is identical to the document as displayed by AP. My understanding is, on Mac's applications don't need to worry about monitor profiles, that is the job of the OS. So AP only needs to worry about the working color space, described by the ROMM RGB profile, when rendering the document, and the target space when exporting, which, in this case, is the same. And, since Preview is color profile-aware, I should be seeing identical images, regardless of the monitor profile. But perhaps AP is doing something else when displaying the document? Or, not for the first time, my understanding is faulty. Can anybody explain what I am seeing and perhaps suggest how I can profile the monitor(s) so that the JPG and the document in AP are identical? Is it possible to toggle the contrast of the transparent checkered background? Currently I place a dark rectangle object behind the white icons. I expected a document setup property to set this background light or dark. This property should stored in the project file. Also a button in the toolbar to toggle it fast would be nice.

As a photographer whose images are in museums, color judgement is critical to me. I have a 10-bit path showing 100% of ARGB. In order to do this accurately, one needs an environment that is LIGHT (such as the light grays of this very forum). I realize you're aesthetically fond of the dark environment, but any photographer worth his salt will tell you it screws up color and luminosity perception. If you doubt me, please see the attached image from: http://web.mit.edu/persci/people/adelson/checkershadow_illusion.html. Look at the light surrounds of the A square and the dark surrounds of the B square. Humans are not wired to see A and B as the same tone, as this example makes stunningly clear. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE allow us to select a light UI with black text. (Yes: as a retired programmer, I -do- realize that this will take some effort on your part, as all your icons are white; the font is white... I get it.) But this is a fundamental and nearly crippling mistake in your UI. Please fix it.

I'm having a recent issue with my cloning brush tool, in that while I can set a source, the closer I bring the brush to a light source or brighter area, the darker it becomes when used, regardless of the selection. Conversely, the further I take my selection away from light/bright areas, the brighter it becomes. I'm kind of at a loss here .... thanks for input!

When I exported the image from Affinity to my desktop it looked fine. (I was using the Mac software Preview to view it) however when I tried to send the image via iMessage, it became very dark. Is there a setting that can fix this problem?
